Sweet Dreams: Bucky X Reader.
Summary: Chatting over tea is harmless enough, but something is wrong with Bucky when you ask a few seemingly harmless questions. Then the night brings back the horror.
* Warning* contains a scene of violence. Strangulation and minor details of the incident.
Part Three:
“Yeah so I moved here for that job only to get fired within the first two months after the manager changed a policy without telling me and I messed up twice.” Bucky grimaced, sipping the tea.
“How about you? You been in New York long?” He finished the cup and leaned back against his chair. “My whole life actually. Born and raised.” “Wow that’s crazy, I bet you have seen a lot of crazy shit here.” He nodded and winced at the statement. “Here and elsewhere.” “I’m sorry I didn’t mean anything by that. I was thinking more like, giant rodents in the street stealing an entire baked ham!” He snorted “What the hell? No, nothing like that. And no there was never a giant gorilla climbing the Empire State Building. I seen the movie but not real; though you should’ve seen the reaction to it then.” “I can imagine it myself, can you believe how scared people were of that movie back then?” Bucky cleared his throat. “Oh yeah I bet; they did a good job with it.”
The room fell quiet as you finished your cup. Bucky tapped his fingers on the table, a seemingly nervous habit to fend off the deafening silence. “So Bucky?” He looked up again, his face slightly less enthused but not harsh. “How come you’re single? I mean I know that’s not appropriate to ask, but you seem like a total catch; if you take away the whole nightmare thing.” He laughed nervously and looked at his empty cup. “I guess I just don’t have much in common with people these days.” “That can’t be true.” “I’m not on social media or dating apps. I don’t understand them. My friend Sam tried to explain it to me but I couldn’t do that after a while. It seems so messed up that life.”
“Oh I agree. I used to be online all the time a few years ago after my graduation. But after a while I started to just feel more and more depressed. It’s crazy, I envy people who never had to worry about this. It seemed like a great idea at one point to connect with people from all around the world; but you just end up comparing yourself to their lives, having this need to compete to get attention and that’s lead to some seriously negative things happening to people.” He nodded and spun the cup gently on the table. “I guess so. But I’m not up to date with all the stuff. Like what exactly is a me me?” You snorted. “A meme?” He stared at you, eyes wide and confused, he looked so cute in this state.
“Um, so a meme, as it’s called. Is a photo with a joke on it. Sometimes they’re more than one photo but it’s all just a visual representation of a joke.” He nodded and mused the context for a moment. “What about a gyf?” You sat across from him and tried to take his left hand in yours but he pulled it back. “Okay, um, I can see this is going to be a long road.” He nodded nervously as you explained the context of a gif, the stuff that would have a label NSFW, Snapchat, and anything else he could think to ask.
When the conversation ended you looked outside as the sun had set. “Damn, I think I may have overstayed my welcome.” He murmured. “Don’t be silly! You can drop by anytime Bucky.” He smiled and headed for the door, you reached out your hand as he opened his arms and then you each did a reverse before pausing and laughing. “How about a simple handshake?” You suggested and he agreed. You heard out your left hand and he paused looking at it for a moment. He then reached out with his right hand and took yours to shake it. “Goodnight F/N. Sleep well.” “You too, I hope you have a good night Bucky.” He smiled and went across the hall to his room as you shut the door.
****************************************************
“STEVE!!!” You jolted awake in your bed and sprinted towards the door. Opening it and trying to break down Bucky’s. “Bucky! James! C’mon, I’m right here!” You slammed your body into the door with all your might but it wouldn’t budge. You could hear the sound of things breaking and being thrown around and pounded on the door pleading with him.
“James please… Bucky… it F/N. Could you please let me in?” The noise stopped suddenly, your heartbeat echoed in your ears. “Bucky?” The door jerked open and before you could even blink Bucky’s hand was grasping at your throat, you gasped for air and pulled but the arm was firmly closed around your airway. It was cold and hard against your skin and you could feel the little pieces of metal pinching against your flesh. You screamed as loud as your voice could and begged.
“Please… it’s me… remember? Bucky? Please remember me?” You reached out and took his face, the life slipping from your body as your hands gently caressed against his temple and suddenly the grasp on your throat loosened. You fell to the floor choking for air, each intake more painful in your throat. You felt like you had swallowed glass. Bucky backed against the wall and started to cry. “Oh, God! What have I done? F/N?” Your eyes slowly closed and opened as you looked at the panicked man one last time before he ran away.
****************************************************
One crushed larynx, two broken ribs, and a concussion. The doctor said you were very lucky to make it through. You had a notepad by your bed and wrote out a thanks in response. They laughed and allowed two well dressed men into the room, the flashed badges and sat in the seats by your bed. “I understand you have been in contact with a man who goes by James Barnes?” You nodded.
“Miss, it’s vital we find this man as he could be a danger. Do you realize who this man is?” The agents who insisted on coming in kept pressuring you to answer their questions. You shook your head as they slid over a Manila folder. You opened it and coughed out a gasp as the nurse rushed to get you some water. In the folder were photos of Bucky, but he was dressed in his war uniform, the type you’d seen in old films. You seen his birthdate listed as March 10 1917, but that had to be a mistake. This had to be his grandfather or something because Bucky was only in his thirties. This man would be at least over a hundred.
“I know it’s a shock ma’am but he escaped the facility we kept him at a few months back. He has committed more crimes than anyone. You realize he could’ve killed you last night?” You shook your head and took the notepad to write an answer.
“Bucky, wouldn’t do that! He’s a nice man. Needs help, what were you doing to help?” The men groaned and rolled their eyes at that question. “Look, he’s dangerous. He’s not some sweet little guy that needs a mommy to tend to him!” The partner giggled as you felt a blush forming in your face. “This man is a dangerous weapon that was used against our country for years. We kept him in containment for a reason.”
“Maybe, that’s not what he needed! Maybe he is needing someone to actually listen to what he’s been through!” Another laugh from the men. “Miss, I know this guy may seem like a normal guy with trauma, but he’s not. Be careful, if you know anything contact us?” You nodded as they handed you a business card with an emblem from a government agency you didn’t recognize. The left the room and you tore the card into tiny pieces tossing it on the ground.
You knew it couldn’t be true, none of it. Bucky was a guy who just needed to get help. You didn’t blame Bucky for the events, while you’re scared of what happened you know it wasn’t his fault. You reassured yourself as you tried to get some sleep, focusing on the tall shadow lurking in the corner of your room.

Part Thirteen:
*************************************
“Wow!” Eddie exclaimed. You’d taken over the driving duties at the last rest stop and Eddie sat in the passenger seat. When you both reached the skyline that used to occupy your everyday life he perked up. “Wow!” “Have anything else to add Munson?” He giggled and looked around the streets to observe the crowds. People from all walks of life gathered and watched your car drive through, Eddie drawing attention as he gawked in amazement. “I’m really showing I’m not from here, aren’t I?” You nodded and giggled as he continued to watch the world you knew well pass before him.
“I don’t blame you for being pissed to leave this place. And for Hawkins!” He groaned and slammed his hand on his knee. “Eh, it’s not so bad.” “How can you say that? Do you see the places I could play out here? We past seven bars already with an open mic for any acts! I can’t even get the guys to leave the area because the trip is too far. What does Hawkins have at all?” You smirked and took ahold of his hand. “You.” He blushed and pushed your hand back to the wheel. “Okay, very cute.” You smiled as your car snaked through the streets and parked near the psychic’s shop, it wouldn’t be for another two hours to get the reading, two hours to kill.
“So down the road is another mall, it’s a bit larger than Starcourt but we can do that if you’d like?” His eyes lit up and he jumped in the seat. “Yes! Do they have a music store there?” You nodded, it’s been a few months but you remember the place well enough. You started the car and headed out to the mall.
Eddie’s eyes became the size of saucers when you both walked through the doorway to the store. Guitars lined the wall as did small ukuleles, bass guitars, amps and cables. On the other side was the records they sold as well. Eddie picked you up in his arms and carried you to the back where they kept the metal music. “Hi, welcome to Music Emporium. What would you like today?” Eddie grinned unable to speak from the pure euphoric surroundings. “Um my boyfriend wants to know if you have the latest Metallica album?” The guy nodded. “Absolutely, would you like to hear a few of the songs? We’ve got a listening booth in the back here.” Eddie nodded and pulled you with him as you both followed the guy. He handed Eddie the record and closed the curtains. “This is the fucking coolest!” You smiled and placed the album on the turntable and put the headphones on Eddie’s head. He smiled softly before letting his moves show and mimicked another air guitar. Eddie removed the headphones placing them on you, a soft guitar melody played over, more somber than any of their previous songs. The rhythmic hook repeated as Eddie wrapped his arms around your waist.
“You know, this is kind of a nice spot?” Eddie buried his face in your neck and kissed your collarbone. You felt your breath hitch in your throat as the song came to the chorus. “Eddie, I don’t think this is a good place for that?” He laced his fingers together around your stomach and pulled you closer to him. “I don’t know? Music, the fact no one can see us right now, we’re alone…” A purposeful cough alerted Eddie he wasn’t entirely alone with you. You both jolted and looked to find the employee with his arms crossed. “This isn’t the changing room at Penny’s folks, take that downstairs.” Eddie blushed and let go of you as you both filed out of the sound booth. Eddie grabbed the cassette of the album, a pack of guitar strings and picks before cashing out. The girl behind the counter had Raven hair and a few piercings, she eyed Eddie like he was a delicious entrée. You cleared your throat when she leaned on the counter when he slid the money to her. Eddie thanked her as you both left.
You laced your arm through his as you both left and walked to search the nearby shops. Nothing stood out for you both, though Eddie did linger in a shop selling used comics because they had a cool Dungeon Master screen he wanted, but it was two hundred dollars. “Sacrilege!” Eddie shouted and you looked at the clock in the food court, only forty five minutes left before you and he would return to Madam Nero’s. “We’ve got to go now.” He sighed and followed you out to the car. Eddie looked through his bag and popped the tape in. Skipping to the song you both were listening to back at the shop.
The song filled the car with its melancholic lyrics, of feeling lost and alone. Eddie ejected the tape and put it back in the bag. You sighed feeling the heaviness of the situation at hand. “I’m being ridiculous aren’t I?” He shrugged and looked back to the street beside his window. “I know I am Eddie. I’m trying to figure out if… if soulmates are a real thing. Or if you and I will actually work. I’m basing everything in our relationship on this.” Eddie started to gnaw at his thumb, the nail was already short but he was biting it to nothing.
“F/N. I don’t know much about this stuff myself, and I’m not great with relationships either. All I know is I like you and I will try to make this work. If you’re ever unhappy with me or our relationship as a whole just say it.” You sighed as you parked the car in front of the shop. The open sign glowing in Eddie’s face. He turned to look at you, motioning you to head inside and let the powers of fate and destiny take over. You opened the door to head inside, Eddie followed close behind.
****************************************************
The shop still had that generic look it had two years prior. Eddie took a seat beside the door as you made your way through the beaded curtain. There she was; except her hair was shorter and out of the silk scarf, she wore a Notre Dame sweatshirt and her cheeks were more hallowed. “Were you F/N?” You nodded and took the seat, feeling guilt plague your heart. She smiled and reached out to your hand, giving it a slight squeeze. “It’s okay dear. I know I may not look like the typical person to do this, but I’m sure we can help you.” You nodded, a stench of medicine on her breath, you knew that smell well, your father had it when he went in for chemotherapy.
“Now, what would you like to know?” You nodded and calmed yourself as best you could. “I saw you two years ago, and you told me something. I just need to know if what you said, has come true?” She shrugged. “Depends, can you enlighten me a bit?” You nodded and looked back through the curtain, you could see Eddie sitting in the chair by the door, pursing his lips as he waited. “You said I’d meet someone, they’d be very special… I think I’ve met him and I just want to know if it’s actually the guy you saw?” She nodded and stood up, a cane beside the table you’d never seen, she wobbled as you tried to help but she brushed you away. She reached the curtain and opened it to look at Eddie. “Young man, get your ass back here. I haven’t got all day!” Eddie scurried to his feet and walked through the door. He too attempted to help her to her seat but she waved him to a chair beside you, before you lowered herself back into hers.
“So, you want to know if this boy is the one? Or if he’s meant to be with you?” You nodded and Eddie wrapped his arms around your shoulder. Madam Nero looked at this and smiled, shuffling the cards and laying out three as before. She smiled at the outcome and looked at you both. “Darling, I’d say you’ve got a good man here.” You leaned over to Eddie and felt your body relax. “And a good relationship is just beginning. You’re both very much in love, but you don’t know if you are right for each other.” You nodded. “Stop worrying. Just let yourselves feel what you want, you love him, and he loves you.” Eddie pondered at those remarks and looked over to the cards. They were nothing but blank index cards this time.
“Wait! You didn’t even read the correct cards!” She smirked and tapped his hand. “I don’t need to read any. Why did you feel the need to come all this way? Are you afraid you’re not right for each other?” You nodded and Eddie looked at you with that pained expression. “Stop feeling that you’re not good enough! Both of you! I’ve seen my fair share of people come through that door with a partner and I read what they want me to. But I’ve learned something; sometimes it’s best to tell people what they truly need to know. These cards could damage your relationship more than they could help. I don’t sense anything bad between you two, in fact I can sense a deep passionate love. I don’t need cards to see that you two are a match.” You felt yourself sobbing and Eddie pulling you closer to him.
“Please.” She urged, reaching to both of you. “Go home and love each other, don’t fret what the universe has in store. I think it did the right thing with bringing you two together, whether that was foreseen or not; I think you were meant to be.” You wiped a tear away and stood up with Eddie. Pulling a twenty out of your pocket when she shoved your hand away. “I didn’t actually do anything. No charge for that. Just enjoy the time you both have.” You nodded as you and Eddie walked out the door, you glanced back at her one last time, feeling a surge of guilt and sadness. You’d wasted her time, and Eddie was also probably feeling jilted by your actions.
He opened the door as he let you out and you walked to the car turning to face him. “Eddie I’m so…” His lips were on yours in an instant, hungrily devouring the breath from your body and pinning you against the car. You pulled him away for a moment, his eyes fixed on you, lustful and burning. “What was that for?” “I’m going to enjoy the time I have with you. Like she said. I won’t waste another minute, I just want you.”
You felt the knot in your stomach growing and Eddie’s kiss was intoxicating. He found your neck and sucked hard, a bruise surely forming under the pressure from his lips. “Not yet, I just want to go back home.” He sighed and nodded opening the door for you. You climbed into the seat and looked back at him, a small frown on your lips. “I do have one more stop to make before we go. And I need to do it quickly.” Eddie nodded as you started the car heading into the suburbs.
****************************************************
You brushed the dirt off the stone, it had a few cracks in the concrete and lettering but still looked like it did when it was new. Eddie stood beside you as you placed a simple gathering of flowers you had picked from the field nearby on the patch of dirt. You’d not intend to make this stop, and that made the guilt in your stomach over the last several hours feel even worse.
Eddie wrapped his arm around your waist when you stood up. “How did he…?” “Cancer. When I was twelve. We had no idea, everything seemed normal. He came to a play I was in, complaining about a headache but my mom wrote it off. Just told him to take some Tylenol and he’d be fine. But…” You shivered as Eddie tightened his grip to hold you closer, that touch letting you know he’d be there. “He collapsed when the intermission came. I was told to leave and we were being taken to the hospital. I remember the tubes in his arms and legs, he looked like he was a robot, not my dad. When the doctor said cancer… I knew. I knew it was all over. He may have been buried six months later, but… I made peace with his death long before they placed him here.” You cried into Eddie’s chest. “God I’m a terrible person.”
Eddie rubbed your back and pulled you tighter to his body. You shook uncontrollably and he smoothed your hair, cooing in your ear and shushing your cries. “You’re not. You’re not a terrible person. You knew, you just knew. Rather than deny the inevitable, you accepted it. You accepted that he’d be gone.” “I didn’t spend much time with him, I couldn’t.” He nodded and placed a kiss within your hair. “It was hard. I wish I were there; I could’ve been there for you.” You snorted. “You know, dad would’ve loved you?” “Oh yeah?” You nodded and looked up at Eddie, he gently wiped the tears from your eyes and brushed your hair back. “Yeah. You make me happy. He’d love that.” Eddie smirked and looked over to the headstone. “That’s all?” You nodded and collapsed into Eddie’s chest. “You do make me happy, and I love you.” He brushed your hair again, cradling your head against his chest.
“I’m sorry I dragged you into this. Wasted your time.” He pulled your head away from his chest and leaned down to give a soft kiss. You blushed under that gentle caress of his lips, especially the location you both were in. “That’s okay. You wanted to know. You know now, and I know. Let’s take it one step at a time. Who knows what the universe has in store for us. But like the lady said, let’s not waste it.” You nodded as you and Eddie left the cemetery, his arm clutching you closer than ever before, and your mind and heart at ease finally getting the closure you needed.

Part Twelve:
“Babe, I love you but this music is awful!” Eddie groaned. “Change it, I don’t mind.” He reached in the back to grab a collection of cassette tapes and popped one in. A loud thunderous bell sounded before the electric guitar of For Whom The Bell Tolls. Eddie started to play air guitar and bang his head as you continued down the highway. You couldn’t contain the laughter when the solo came on and Eddie started practically gyrating in the seat and falling out the window. He moaned in frustration when you pulled into the gas station before the song could end.
“Listen Ozzy, you want to grab the chips and pay for the gas?” Eddie looked around the parking lot; there were a few cars and two semi trucks but you didn’t think it would be bad for you to wait and fill the gas, but Eddie clenched his lips and shook his head. “C’mon Eddie!” He walked over to you and put his arm around your waist as he guided you to the store. “You can come inside too, I’m not leaving you out here by yourself, let’s go.”
You rolled your eyes and followed Eddie inside as you both went to grab some snacks. Eddie ran to the beer cooler and grabbed a couple six packs and then found a bag of Doritos to add to the mix. You grabbed a few things yourself; some gummy worms, some snack cakes you knew Eddie would probably love, a container of Pringles and then you found a tiny keychain with a guitar that resembled Eddie’s hanging near the window, you took it and headed to the counter when a guy blocked your path.
“Sorry, I just need to get through.” “What’s your rush babe? I just got here. At least let me get to know you before you walk out of my life.” You shook your head. The guy was the typical college frat boy who had his collar popped, big muscles and that blonde hair styled like the Miami Vice show. “The boys and I were wondering, how loud you can scream my name? Would it be loud enough to break the sound barrier?” “Please I need to get back to my boyfriend.” He and his friends made a barrier that pushed you back to the coolers. “C’mon babe, I could have you cum around my cock probably faster than that guy. And then you can stuff it in your pretty little mouth while one of my buddies fuck you from behind.” He smirked, and leaned in before lowering to a whisper. “Would you like us all to fuck you babe? Bet that pussy could use someone who knows how to fuck you properly. Give you a night you’ll remember.”
“Excuse me!” Eddie pushed through the side wrapping his arm around your shoulder and pulling you in for a kiss. “Can I help you dickweeds with anything?” You looked back to Eddie, tears in your eyes and your body trembling. “Fuck you freak, we were just talking.” Eddie lowered his voice to the dungeon master level, and his eyes turned cold. “Maybe now you should get lost instead, I don’t like my girlfriend talking to guys like you!” They rolled their eyes and groaned as they headed out the door. The bell signaling they’d left.
“I told you, stick with me in these places babe.” You shuddered. “Don’t call me that for a while now. The way that guy said it…” another body shiver, “he ruined it completely.” Eddie scowled. “Damnit. Now I have to give you a new nickname.” He snarled and you giggled. “Well I do like calling you princess. And if he comes back and tries to call you that or say those things again, I’ll give him a good thing he could remember.” You smiled and rested your head on Eddie’s chest as you both went to the register to pay for the food and gas. You tossed the keychain on the counter and Eddie looked at it with a small smile.
As you both headed back to the car Eddie pulled out a snack cake and shoved it in his mouth. “So who’s that keychain for?” You smiled as you loaded the back. “You.” His eyes widened with curiosity. “I thought you’d like it. If it’s too cheesy though I understand.” He shook his head as he set his bags in the back beside his duffle. “No way, I like it. Good memento of the day. I only wish I got you something?” “Well you did save me back there. I figured I owed you.” “Did you get that before or after Malibu Ken showed up?” You snorted. “Before.” He tapped the roof of the car as he went to fill up the gas tank. “Then it’s not a thank you, it’s a gift and I now have to get you something. That is the rules of a relationship.” You giggled at his concept of now establishing rules for your relationship and dating. “Eddie, you’ve given me a lot. Drawings and stuff; this is nothing.” “No, let me repay the favor. I’ll find something to give to you.”
“Oh yeah baby! He’ll give you something.” “Ohhhh! Ohhhhh!” One of the guys moaned. “Make her howl freak!” They all howled and moaned as they grind their crotches against a parked car, Eddie chucked the windshield squeegee at the guys as they stood there laughing and mocked you both. “Think she lets him fuck her in the ass!” “Oh man I bed she has a perfect ass for this cock right here!” One slammed his hips into the car when he declared that “Bet you can’t even find her clit freak! Hey baby! If you want a real good fuck, I’m right here. This cock is getting hard just looking at you!” He stuck his tongue through a V in his fingers wiggling it for you to see. Eddie attempted to walk over to them when you got out of the car and sprinted to their general direction.
“I wouldn’t want your diseased and tiny dick anywhere near me. Now you guys can go blow each other behind the store when we leave like I assume you had in mind before. And I am one to believe that all the women you fucked were apparently faking it the whole time. Which isn’t surprising by the looks of you all, not a single one of you has made a woman orgasm! I bet you can even fit your dick inside the smallest hole of a pencil sharpener! So please let me know when you manage to do that, so I can gladly crank the wheel as I do the world a favor and rid future generations of your sperm running loose! You flipped the off and got back into the car with Eddie as he drove away.
“What was that?” “They were being jerks. Talking about things they’d like to do, making jokes about fucking me! I hate it, I hate guys who act that way. Besides, I didn’t like them making fun of you either.” He nodded as you burst into tears. Eddie reached his hand over and took yours. “Just punks.” You blushed as Eddie drove on ahead. “I’m sorry they made you feel that way.” You shrugged as you wiped the tears away. “I got that a lot Eddie. Before moving to Hawkins I mean. Guys always do that. Why do you think I’ve never dated anyone?” He nodded and lit one of his new cigarettes while he focused on the road.
“So, no guy ever?” You gagged. “Seriously Eddie that back there was a constant for me. My Friday night orgasms always came from a copy of the latest dime store romance and a jumbo pack of Duracell batteries.” Eddie snorted, and lit another cigarette. “I am sorry they said those things. Not just those guys back there, but any of them. You didn’t deserve that.” You smiled and yawned, you hadn’t slept well the night before. All the yelling and frustration really kicked in that fight or flight response now you just needed to recover. “Eddie?” “Hmmm?” “Do you mind if I sleep?” “No! Not at all, go ahead.”
Eddie started to shimmy out of his jacket and handed it to you. “You can use the vest as a pillow if you’d like and the leather jacket could kind of be a blanket.” You giggled but did as he requested, the vest was rough but smelled like Eddie. Cheap cigarettes, weed, beer and Irish spring. You buried your face to breathe in Eddie, Eddie who would protect you and love you. You looked over at him and offered a smile which he gave one in return. Feeling your eyes get heavy you allowed yourself to fall asleep, the road offering some comfort in its rhythmic beat.
****************************************************
Eddie was helping you flee from a group of trolls on horseback, his arms gripped tightly around your waist. “Princess there is a place nearby. In the woods let’s go and find it.” You listened and guided the horse to the clearing and rode off into the forest nearby. He tapped your shoulder and urged you to slow down. You obeyed and looked back to see an arrow wound had pierced his arm.“Oh no! You’re hurt we’ve got to get that checked!”
You jumped off the horse and tied it to a nearby tree. His wound wasn’t as bad as it looked, a graze from the metal had torn through his sleeve and sliced the skin. You took a piece of your dress and soaked it in the nearby river to make a bandage for him. He smiled as you tightened the cloth around his bicep. “It’s not too tight is it?” He shook his head and flexed his fingers for you to see. “Thank you Princess.”
You stood up and looked out towards the kingdom, still far away from you both and probably sending out their men to find you and Edward. You had been looking to strike a deal with a nearing kingdom and you had been betrothed to their prince. Edward had agreed to travel with you to meet your betrothed as your protector, Edward being the best knight meant you were in the best hands, no one would take care of you like Edward.
“Your highness?” You turned to face him as he stood, slowly approaching you as his eyes drank in your appearance. He licked his lips as he glanced down at yours. “This may be our last night, truly alone, and I have been wanting to tell you something.” “What?” Your breath hitched in your throat as he looked at you and took your chin in his hand. “I think about you, a lot… when I’m alone at night. I think about your perfect skin, beautiful hair and those… soft lips.” You shuddered at his words, and his delicate touch from those calloused hands. “I must say, I think about you as well.” He smirked. “You do?” “Yes, and what your hands, could do to me. They’re so skilled at wielding a sword, fixing weapons on the forge; I’d like to know what else they could do.” He pulled you in and kissed your lips biting the bottom one and pulling you closer.
“Would you like to find out?” “God yes!” He pushed you with your back to a nearing tree as he pulled the skirt up enough for his hands to slip underneath and in between your wet folds. You shuddered at the sensation and he let his finger plunge in and out as they curled against the rough spongy spot that only you knew about. You gasped and clutched him in your arms, your legs wrapping behind him as he pushed another finger inside and making you cry.
“Oh!! Oh God!! Edward! Yes! Please! Take me! Make me yours!” He paused and ripped off your dress with one quick move and took your right breast between his lips. You tossed your head back in ecstasy. His fingers made their way back to that spot and his thumb found the bud that made you cry, tears poured down your cheeks and legs as he made you scream so loud the banshees could find you. “Princess? You nodded. “M
ore! I need more! All of you, please I can take it!” “Princess! Wake up!” You felt your body shake and opened your eyes to see Eddie, real Eddie as he peered over at you with a big smirk on his face.“What’s going on?” “We’re entering Ohio, I thought you’d like to wake up for that?” You sat up and looked ahead at the sign and smiled. “When’s that appointment?” You sighed and looked at the clock on the dash. “Not for another five hours Eddie, but it still takes two to get back to Columbus.” He smiled and continued on the highway. “Having a good dream there?” You stretched and glanced over at him. “Why?” He shrugged and chuckled. “Just sounded like a good dream.” “How so?” “Because you were smiling.” “Ah. Gotcha.” You said, blushing and hiding your face from Eddie. “And moaning too.” “Oh god!” He gasped. “That’s actually pretty close!” Your face grew red at the realization he heard you in your dream. “Eddie, shut up.” He giggled as you threw a pretzel at his head. “Watch it princess I’m driving.” You blushed hearing that term slip from his lips again, you took another pretzel and nibbled on it as you tried to fall back to sleep.
****************************************************
“Sorry, I just need to get some caffeine F/N.” You nodded and stayed in the car, a decision you both agreed upon. Eddie ran inside as you slid down into the seat and hid as best you could. You turned to dig through your bag, it was there. The bright pink vibrator you’d bought from one of the stores at the mall when you and Robin went on a shopping trip, a little birthday gift for yourself. You covered it quickly and tried to put the dream out of your mind. You’ve had it plenty of times since Eddie gave you that drawing. Some days he’d be fingering you, others he’d let you ride his face as you both hid under a bridge. But your favorite one was when he actually fucked you until sunrise having you scream his name; your naked bodies slacked against a patch of grass or a rock, wherever he could have his way with you. He would always make sure you knew he loved you and was the only one who’d ever truly own your heart.
It wasn’t the first dream you had about Eddie though, but it was the reoccurring one. Others included Eddie after a show wanting to show you how skilled he really was at fingering positions, Eddie after a D&D session after clearing off the table he’d roll the dice and the higher the roll the harder he’d fuck you, work Eddie would come to the desk once everyone had left and take you into one of the cars to have his way with you, driving home in his van he’d pull over unable to resist the urge, and coming into your room at night confessing he wanted you before a slow and gentle night of love making. Each Eddie was different but you wouldn’t mind knowing the real thing.
You shivered as you looked over towards the store and back to the bag. If Eddie weren’t here you’d pull into some vacant space and take care of yourself. You looked back over and saw him running to the car with another arm filled with sodas and chips. He handed the stuff to you, when he opened the door. “Here’s all the stuff. Are you still tired?” You nodded and stretched a little in the seat, Eddie placed a small peck on your forehead. He climbed into the drivers side and downed a coke. “Thanks fine, I’ll drive for a little longer.” You nodded.
“I almost forgot I did get you something.” “What is it?” “Here.” Eddie handed you a small heart shaped keychain. Engraved was a name on the front and you couldn’t help but laugh when you saw it. “Wow, a keychain with your name. Shouldn’t this be yours?” He shook his head and smiled. “No, see with my name on it you know whose heart you own. Mine! Like you have the key to my heart or something… thinking about that now it’s absolutely stupid and I probably look like a spaz.” “No, I love it.” You smiled as you traced the embossed letters and attached it to your keys in the ignition. “You own my heart and I own yours.” He smiled and leaned over towards you. “A fair deal princess.” You kissed him, his lips tasting like coke and cigarettes; it was the best kiss you’d gotten from Eddie. And slowly that dream was closer to a reality.

One Small Favor: Johnny Storm + Peter Parker X (Fem) Reader
Summary: Things at school are getting difficult and after a chance encounter with an old friend things start to look up. It gets even more interesting when the hottest man in manhattan asks for your number. What could go wrong?
Part One:
You felt your eyes glazing, Mrs. Keller was muttering on about something with the quantum mechanics while you were thinking about the leftover pizza in your mini fridge. “Miss L/N!” You jolted in your seat and brushed off the snickering from the class. “I assume you’re already aware of the subject. Please, enlighten the class.” She ushered you, the eyes from forty students glared back as you nervously giggled. “I don’t know I must’ve missed that particular episode of Quantum Leap.” The class howled with laughter. The bell rang much to your delight as you jumped up from your seat and grabbed you books.
“Miss L/N!” You stopped at the door and turned to face Mrs. Keller. “Yes ma’am?” She pursed her lips and chuckled. “Are you aware that your upcoming final is worth half of your grade this year?” “I am.” “The tell me, what exactly is your plan because you haven’t been entirely present in my class and you don’t have a clue on the subject?” You shrugged. “Why did you take my class?” “Because, I needed a science credit and Conner’s class was full.” She sighed, her hands on her hips and stamped her feet. “Well if you fail you’re out. And I mean it. This will be your last chance to succeed.” “Fine by me.”
You walked back to your dorm. Katie your best friend snuck up behind you. “What’s up?” “Nothing I’m just about to fail.” “Why?” “Keller’s class. I just can’t understand half of what she’s saying and we never do anything but talk. I swear that woman just yaps and yaps but nothing is relevant.” “That sounds like a you problem.” You shrugged and opened your door to your screaming roommate who covered her boyfriend’s backside with the blanket. “Jesus! Knock next time dumbass!” “Sorry, just let me get my bag and I’ll be gone for the rest of the week.” “Finally!” You grabbed your bag, sliding the man’s jeans off it and dashing out the door.
“Is it always like that with her.” “Katie, the girl would rather he live there than me.” “Again, sounds like a you problem.” “Well I think I’ll take those problems and head back home.” She sighed and gave you a hug. “Back to Forest Hill’s, so far away from me!” “Kate you live in Brooklyn. Honestly I’ll see you in a week.” “Bye!” You waved and headed down the stairs. Taking the subway back home, the stations more crowded than usual. The last train was late getting back and you stood in the station pacing, a familiar face came down the stairs.
“As I live and breathe! Pete Parker! Hi!” He waved, his arms filled with papers and books, hair a disheveled mess, and the same nervous stance he had as a kid. “Hi F/N. How have you been?” “Eh. You know.” “Yeah I heard, hey sorry about your dad and Danny. You think you know someone and…” You stopped him, your face flushed as the memory of the past two years hit you. “How about you? I don’t see you anymore, I mean we even go to the same school and yet you’re never there.” “Oh, yeah. I’m usually busy.” “Must be, but I guess it’s easier for you.” “How’s that.” You explained the situation to Peter, it felt good to have someone listen and care what you were saying. He nodded and pondered your problem. “Well I think I have an idea.” “Steal the answers to the test?” He gawked and chuckled. “No… less illegal than that. I can help you.” “You want to help me?” He smirked. “Didn’t say I wanted to do it, just that I could. If you’re up for it?”
You pondered the offer, Pete was the smarted guy back at midtown high, he used to be even geekier than he is now. Up until freshman year Pete was the guy that most people dismissed; you remember the time no one would sit with him at lunch and you took a seat beside him, the cafeteria gasped in shock and you made a joke to Pete like “What’s wrong with them?” He smiled but it didn’t heal everything.
Then one morning he came to school and he was different, he started to skip classes from time to time, which you attributed it to his uncle’s death but some of the things were not adding up. Besides class skipping he would dress nicer and even forgo his glasses for a while which caught every girl’s eye, even yours. Why would that be related to his uncle? You looked back to Pete again, he still looked like that cute guy who took the pictures for the yearbook and would bring sack lunches from his Aunt May.
“You know, if I wasn’t aware of your brains I’d tease you for that confidence spell there Parker.” “Take it or leave it L/N.” You sighed. “Okay, I have the week off for spring break. I can probably swing by your place for a study session.” He smiled and rustled your hair. “Great, I’ll tell May. She makes these great butterscotch cookies.” “Oh I remember them, she brought them to that Halloween party the school had in fourth grade. Remember, you dressed up as Bill Nye the science guy!” “Yeah, how’d you remember that?” You snorted and shoved his shoulder. “Are you kidding? It was a great costume. Way cooler than mine. How original to dress up as a witch.” “You made it work, it suits you.” “Hey!”
You shoved him as the announcement broke that the train was delayed longer, you groaned as did Pete. “Would you like to walk me home?” He froze, his eyes wide and looking off in the distance. “Sorry, I can’t. I’ll call your house tomorrow. Bye!” You stood there lost for a moment, did you just get blown off or was he not flirting with you? You sighed as you walked up the stairs and braved the twenty six blocks to your house.
****************************************************
Walking home these days wasn’t exactly easy anymore; due in part to the heightened crime since the unveiling of the superheroes; if New York is no longer known for its pizza it will be known for its mass amount of superheroes; you lost count of how many they were up to but it was well into the double digits. And with superheroes also came something else; supervillains. You’d been lucky to be in a slightly quieter side of New York that had less of the crazy science exploited villains. No need to encounter a Doctor Otto Octavious or a Victor Von Doom; you just had to worry about getting home without the creepy guy down the street trying to jump kids for whatever change they had to get his fix.
Sadly like the rest of your day, luck was definitely not on your side; the road ahead was under construction. The Forman was shouting at his crew to hurry along and get the hole filled. “Excuse me!” You shouted over the jackhammer and screaming. “Yes little lady?” You ignored the comment even though it pissed you off. “Hey what happened?” “Oh Spider-Man ripped through here earlier with some guys trying to rob this store; he got them but unfortunately he smashed one of their vehicles into the pavement to block them. Now we gotta dig that out and fill in the hole. Not to mention fix all these other buildings.” You nodded, glancing around the street you saw the nearest alley and opted to take it hoping to find a way back on the main road. You waved back at the Forman and headed that way. You plugged in the headphones on your MP3.
You passed the dumpster and the boxes of trash from the local store; the bodega cat from around the corner followed you meowing so loud until you stopped to pet him. You took out your headphones and knelt down beside him and gave his head a little scratch. “Oh that’s cute. She’s so nice to animals.” “Maybe she’ll be nice to us too.” “If not we have ways of getting her to be nice, right boys?” You stood back up and removed the earbuds as you looked behind; four men emerged from the shadows; one carried a large pipe, another a chain, one punched his fist together, and the other licked his lips and smiled at you. “Scream all you like sweetheart, it won’t matter.” You closed your eyes and felt behind you for anything to fight with, but recoiled as you felt the torso of another man hit against your back.
You took the sight of this man in, you’d never seen someone this attractive in your neck of the woods. His jaw was so sharp and his eyes a striking blue shade. He had broad shoulders, blond shaggy hair and you could guess this guy had a gym membership somewhere. He was dressed in a tailored blue button up shirt and jeans, looked more like he was going for a job interview than just a casual walk. He was probably the hottest man you’d ever seen.
“Fellas? You uh, seem to have forgotten your manners.” “Look man we don’t want any trouble.” “And yet you seem to be causing it.” He grimaced as he looked at the men and cracked his neck. “Listen pretty boy, this doesn’t concern you!” He smirked, and gently pushed you to the side. “Oh I’m afraid it does.” His face started to get red and flushed, and you felt a heat coming from around him. You backed away further towards the dumpster, and just in time, as he seemed to set himself on fire!
“Shit!” “Okay let get outta here guys!” “Yeah, I didn’t intend to tangle with freaks!” The men scrambled from the alley, you heard a few car horns and vehicles crashing into each other amongst the sounds of shouting from the street. You kept your eyes on the guy in front of you, who extinguished the flames instantly. He reached over to a nearby bag and put on a similar looking shirt to the one he had on and a pair of blue jeans. He was wearing a blue uniform underneath that surprisingly stayed intact. It was after he fixed himself back up he over and saw you.
“Hey? Are you okay?” You nodded and stood up to face him. He was quite a bit taller than you but about the same age; yet you’d never seen him around here. “I’m sorry about that, I just didn’t like the sounds I heard and thought you could use my help.” “If it had been unarmed guys I might have stood a chance. I typically don’t like to be a damsel in distress type but I do appreciate you helping me.” He smiled and ruffled his hair a bit. You couldn’t imagine a guy this attractive being shy around you. “I’m Johnny.” “F/N.”
He shook your hand but his eyes widened. “You don’t know me?” “Should I?” He leaned back and flexed his arms behind his shoulders. “Well I mean, most girls know Johnny Storm.” You smiled knowingly, and leaned back away from him. “Oh yes. Fantastic Four right?” “Yes!” “Of course.” You turned around and walked back the way you came, he scrambled behind you probably grabbing his things and sped up his pace to just walk in front of you. “Hey? What’s wrong?” “I know of you Johnny Storm; I’ve seen you on TV and your antics.” You smirked, cocking your head to the side and flashing all your teeth. “You and Spider-Man have caused a lot of dilemma; and I’m sure your poor sister is going out of her mind trying to get you under control.” “No one can control me.” “Yes it’s often that way with fires.”
He smirked and put his arm in front of you, not like you had anywhere to go but he was making sure. “Ohhh, smart one.” You smiled and looked past him, still no way home by the looks of it. He seemed to notice your concern. “What’s wrong?” “I’m just trying to get home. But the road is blocked and that alley is… well it’s hopeless.” He smirked and handed you his backpack, shedded his clothes down to the blue uniform with the bold 4 on the chest. “What do you think you’re doing?” “Just hold onto my bag for me and tell me where to drop you off.” “Oh no that won’t be necessary see…”
Before you knew it he took you in his left arm and lifted off the ground in a blaze. You looked up as his left arm was totally normal but the rest of his body was in flames, and they were propelling him through the air. You screamed and looked below, it wasn’t that high off the ground but still one false move and you could be toast; literally. “So where do you live?” “What?!” “House? Which house is it?” “The red brick with… green doors five four one is the address! Oh god tell me when it’s over!” “Scared?” “Yes of course!” He howled with laughter and his speed accelerated, he slowed when he reached your front door and he gently let go of your hand before extinguishing the flames again.
He bounced to his feet and spread out his arms as if he were an acrobat who landed a flawless spin. “That was not funny Johnny.” “But you’re home and perfectly safe I might add. Also how many girls get to say they got to fly with the human torch?” “Plenty I think.” He leaned on the porch and looked you up and down, a small smile appeared on his face. “Not really. I’m not as lucky as a friend of mine.” “Honest?” “Spidey has all the girls falling for him. Me? I have to do this stuff to get girls.” You rolled your eyes. “And how often does that work?” He smirked at yips and leaned on the door. “Depends, did it work?” You grinned sheepishly and tried to open the door before he stopped you.
“Listen, I don’t know any to beat around the bush. I’d like to take you for dinner tomorrow. Actually if you’d like you can join the family dinner. Nothing special or anything just take out.” “Doesn’t dinner with the family come a little later on in a relationship?” He shrugged and gave a cocky grin. “I’m not one for the ordinary style.” You sighed and adjusted your bag off your shoulder. “I can tell. Alright, I can see you tomorrow I guess. I’m not too busy anyways.” “Yes!” He jumped up in the air with a little fire trail under his feet that got you panicked but he only charred the stoop a little. “I’ll see you tomorrow F/N.” He winked and flew off in another burst of flames. You blushed as you walked inside the house; who would’ve thought you’d have a date with a superhero tomorrow?

Written in the Stars Eddie X (Fem) Reader
Summary: soulmates, astrology, and tarot were all silly in your mind. You scoffed at the idea of someone being out there for you and the “universe” having a special purpose for you. There’s no such thing and it’s all a hoax, right? Well you’re not sure anymore and you have to find out, even if it means bringing your boyfriend along for the ride.
*************************************
Slow burn, strangers to friends, friends to lovers, reader is not from Hawkins and bonds with Eddie and his gang. Just two idiots who don’t know they’re falling in love. Eventual smut but it’s going to be a long and slow build. ❤️🔥
Part Eleven:
“So, a psychic told you that we’d meet?” “No, not us specifically but I mean the signs are pretty clear right?” Eddie shrugged. “I mean, if this were the case loads of people would be going to those places and find their future partners correct?” You nodded. “Then why don’t people go and see these people to find their perfect match instead of getting bad dates all the time? It would solve more of the dating dilemma in the world right?” You nodded and sighed. “So you don’t believe this?” “Well I think you believe it.”
“Eddie, I didn’t even believe in this stuff. I’m the world’s biggest skeptic. Ask Jackie! She will tell you how much I hate this crap! But even I’ve got to admit this is pretty weird.” Eddie took your hands in his and pulled them into his lap. “Babe, I think you heard what Robin said and it had something similar to what that lady back in Ohio said.” “Eddie! It wasn’t just the star signs; I mean you’re creative and you have been through a rough patch with dating. I have always put my mom’s needs before mine and until I met you I never had the courage to tell her off! I’m free now and that’s because of you!”
Eddie tapped the back of your hands and smiled softly at you, “I think you did that yourself.” You shook your head. “Babe, as for the other stuff, your friends went in before you. They could’ve told her about you and then let this lady jerk your chain. I mean, it’s nice in theory to think we were destined to be together but, I think it’s just a fantasy that they sell to people and then those poor saps walk through life waiting for that specific person. This doesn’t make what we have any less special does it?” You shook your head as Eddie pulled you in for a kiss, but you couldn’t convince yourself to really lean in for the kiss this time.
“I think I’ll go to bed Eddie. You sounded great tonight, and thanks for driving me home.” “Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow right?” You nodded and headed inside as Eddie sprinted to his trailer. “F/N?” Jackie stepped out from the kitchen with a mug of tea. “Everything okay? You and Eddie didn’t have a fight did you?” You smiled and wiped a tear away. “No, not necessarily a fight. I just have something I need to figure out.” “Okay, I hate to see you two break up.” You chuckled and headed towards your room. “Don’t worry, nothing that bad yet.”
You picked up the phone and dialed Brittany’s number waiting for her to answer. It was too late for these antics but you had to have some reassurance from her. “Urghhhhhh! Who the fuck is it?” “Brittany it’s me.” “I swear to god… if you called to tell me you’re pregnant… I’m going to…” “Shhhhhh. I’m not, I swear. Still the Virgin Queen over here.” “Then what!” You sat down on your bed and looked through the window towards Eddie’s trailer. His light was still on and you could see him messing with the guitar, he looked as frustrated as you were too.
“Do you remember that psychic we saw a couple years ago?” “Yes. Why?” You sighed and could punch yourself for asking her this. “Did you girls tell her anything about me before I went inside?” “Why the hell would we do that?” “I’m trying to figure things out. I’ve had a lot of things happening and I’m sort of confused.” “Are you wanting to see that lady again? Or are you wanting something else?” You gasped. “Wait, She’s still working?” Brittany groaned and you could hear her flip through the phone book for you. “I swear to god, the longer you live in Indiana, the stranger you have become.” “Tell me her number you goof.” She groaned and gave you the number which you jolted down on the notepad by your bed.
“What do you think you’ll get from this?” “Maybe I can just understand the whole thing between me and Eddie.” “Are you and that guy finally an item?” “Yes. He kissed me the other day, and a lot of times since.” “And yet you’re still a card carrying virgin? Does he at least know that?” “To an extent he knows, but we haven’t had a chance to do anything.” She paused and you started to think she finally passed out. “Why?” “Because I’m not ready yet, and he said when I’m ready to tell him.” “Okay, that’s kind of sweet.” You laughed and told her goodbye as you quickly dialed the number for the psychic.
“Madam Nero’s?” “Yes I have a question, would you be able to see me for a reading?” “Is this tonight or tomorrow?” “It’ll have to be tomorrow, I’m in Indiana currently.” “Woah, and you called me? Must be a big deal!” “It is actually, I won’t tell you about it over the phone so please understand that.” You swore you could hear her smirking on the other line. “I understand child. Whatever helps you. Can I have a name for this appointment and a time?” You groaned and looked at the clock, it would take you at least three and a half hours to get back to Ohio. “L/N, and at eight pm?” “I look forward to seeing you child.” You hung up the phone and tried to sleep.
****************************************************
“Wait, what is wrong?” Eddie stood in the doorway while you packed your car with snacks and a thermos filled with enough coffee to keep an entire naval fleet awake. “Nothing, I’m just taking a quick trip back to Ohio, my friends and I haven’t seen each other in a while and I want to see them. “But we had plans?” “I know that but Eddie I need to do this.” “And Hellfire?” You groaned and slammed the door. “Eddie, I’ve humored you and all the things you do. I want to see my friends. Your group will be better off without me at the campaign, besides I still don’t have any of the character sheet filled out.”
“Listen! I made a plan to involve you in this, the guys gave me a lot of shit. They all know you were coming by!” “Eddie! Please!” You got in the drivers seat and started the car. Eddie raced around the front and stood in the way, blocking your car completely. “You’re not leaving here without an explanation!”
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
“Edward James Munson I swear to god if you don’t move!” “What? Just tell me what’s so important?” You turned off the engine and Eddie ran to the side of the car to talk with you. “I’m going back to that psychic and find out what this is.” Eddie laughed and motioned you to continue. “That’s it Eddie. That’s the truth.” “What? Seriously, that’s important?” You nodded. “I swear the next time I see Buckley I am going to give her a piece of my mind and tear up those stupid horoscopes she reads.”
“Eddie, it would’ve piqued my curiosity once I learned that fact. No matter how I found out. Please, I just need to know.” He held his finger out as he headed towards his trailer. “Don’t you move!” “Fine!” You flipped through the map and the book you rented this morning on psychics and the theory of soulmates. You looked back towards Eddie’s trailer, he was still inside and you were getting more irritated as he wasted your time. He came out with a beat up duffle bag in hand and his jacket.
“What the fuck is this?” He tossed the bag in the back seat with your stuff and let himself in the front. “What do you think? I’m going with you.” “Absolutely not!” “F/N! I canceled the session telling them you were ill and I had to care for you while Jackie and Wayne were at work. So let’s go.” You narrowed your eyes. “Munson you’re impossible.” “No, this idea of yours is but I’m going to humor you for a change. Let’s get going!” You started the car again and headed off towards the highway.
“You know, I’ve never been outside of Indiana?” Eddie mused while you headed out of town. “Really?” He nodded. “Why?” “This thing we call money, I never had any.” “Sorry.” He shrugged and reached into the back pulling out a bag of chips and munched on them. “Wouldn’t you know it my first trip out and it’s to a psychic.” You laughed and shook your head, he may be a pain in the ass but he was still your Eddie and you loved him.
“I guess it’ll be a good story.” You remarked as Eddie took a large handful of chips and stuffed his mouth. “For who?” He said between bites. “Anyone. You can tell how your crazy ex once took you in a road trip to see a psychic.” He nearly chocked on the chips and had to down the water you had in the back. “Who said anything about you being an ex?” You shrugged. “Well I don’t know where we’ll be in a year Eddie. You could date me for a while and find someone else who’s not going to make you cancel your campaign for a trip to see a psychic. And in six years from now you could be the top rockstar of all time and have so many women in your bed in a week, you’d never even remember my name.”
“Impossible!” You snorted. “Yeah, okay.” “For one, I don’t like having a lot of one night stands, and two I could never forget you. More importantly I’ve canceled campaigns before and while no, never one for a relationship, I’m willing to do that for you. This is important.” You looked back at him, your heart nearly burst through your chest. “What?” “It’s important for you, I’ll save the campaign for next Saturday. The guys have to listen to what I say, remember? You’re more important than the game is. If you want the answers from this lady I’ll go.”
You felt the trembling in your voice and wanted to scream the words for him to hear. “Eddie I could’ve done this alone.” He shook his head and crossed his arms, acting like a child again. “Nope, you’re not going anywhere this far without someone tagging along. I don’t want to lose you.” “What?” “I won’t lose you! I don’t want you ending up on Unsolved Mysteries as a missing person case! I’m going to fight off any creeps who try and get their hands on you!”
You giggled as you entered your lane and sped the car up to match the rest on the highway. Eddie clutched the console and the head rest. “Relax Munson.“ “You’re one to talk about my driving?” You snorted and continued to increase your speed. “Unlike you however I’ve never had any trouble with the law when it came to my driving.” The blue and red lights flashing behind you and the quick siren beep had Eddie in stitches. You pulled over to the side as Eddie continued to howl with laughter.
****************************************************
Thankfully you were let off with a warning, you had to slap Eddie’s arm a couple times when you flirted with the cop to get out of the ticket and had to play like Eddie wasn’t beside you. The cop smiled and agreed to drop the ticket seeing as you were trying to stay at speed and slipped a little. He smiled and winked as he got in his car to drive off.
“Wow, now how come you never flirted that hard with me?” You shrugged and started the car up again. “Did I really have to work that hard to get you to notice me?” He mused that and nodded. “Okay fair point, but you could be like that with your boyfriend if you wanted. Just a suggestion.” “Boyfriend?” He feigned shock and looked around the car as if anyone else were with you two. “Where?”
“Eddie?” You chuckled. “Yes babe?” You looked over at him knowingly and smirked. “Were you a little jealous the cop got to hear some sweet talk?” “Yes. As long as you date me you can’t sweet talk anyone else. Especially when I’m with you.” You nodded and smirked. “Noted. But you also need to uphold your end of the relationship duties.” “What? I’m here with you, I cancelled my plans to be here, I have been charming company; what else is there?” “You seem to be forgetting one very important duty of the boyfriend and have neglected it all morning.” “What?” You chuckled and felt the blush. “You haven’t kissed your girlfriend yet.”
His eyebrows narrowed and he licked his lips as he leaned over to your face, you pushed him back in his seat. “Not now bozo! I’m driving. I’m just saying, you are not fulfilling that end of the bargain and I expect one when we get to the next gas station.” He pouted and huffed out his breath. “How far is that?” “Fifteen miles.” “Great now you’re making me wait!” “I waited all morning and you never even tried it. You can wait a little longer.” He groaned. “You’re a cruel woman for that.” You snickered as your car drove under the sign indicating another one hundred and seventy two miles until you reached Columbus.

Written in the Stars Eddie X (Fem) Reader
Summary: soulmates, astrology, and tarot were all silly in your mind. You scoffed at the idea of someone being out there for you and the “universe” having a special purpose for you. There’s no such thing and it’s all a hoax, right?

Slow burn, strangers to friends, friends to lovers, reader is not from Hawkins and bonds with Eddie and his gang. Just two idiots who don’t know they’re falling in love. Eventual smut but it’s going to be a long and slow build. ❤️🔥
(Sorry this part isn’t very long)
Part Ten:
“Hey!” Eddie popped in the door with a big smile plastered on his face. You downed the rest of your coffee and grabbed your things saying quick a goodbye to Jackie. “Have a good day kids!”
“So, you still need to establish that character we discussed.” You stopped outside the van and glared at him. “Really? You’re talking the campaign right now?” He nodded and shrugged. “You want me to talk about something else?” You nodded as Eddie closed the gap between you with another kiss. You smirked. “That’s not talking Eddie.” “I know but it’s what you really wanted wasn’t it?” You blushed as he helped you in the van.
Once he got inside the van he sped out of the park. “Now, what is the decision here Princess?” “I think I need another kiss.” He chuckled and took your hand in his placing a kiss on your knuckles. “That’s going to have to do for now?” You nodded as Eddie let go of your hand and took the wheel again. “Seriously though? You have any clue what you want to do for the campaign?” “No. Maybe we can talk more about that during lunch today?” “Well I’ll try but if we can actually get some of the stuff out of the way this time that’d be great.” You crooked an eyebrow at him. “What are you implying Munson?” “That you can keep your hands off me. You know I’m more than just waking sex?” You giggled. “Okay, I’ll try to contain myself.”
Harry had a list of calls for you to make; ordering parts for the car that Eddie had been working on for the past two weeks. “Is this car ever going to be ready?” Harry shrugged and winked at you. “Don’t worry, I’m sure the boy will try and make time for you.” “Harry!” He laughed and headed back to his office. You glanced back at Eddie who shrugged and continued working on the car.
“Yes, see if you can get that to us by next week.” You mumbled to the phone, Eddie waltzed in and took a seat at the desk waiting for huh to finish up. “Yeah, okay well it’s been a pleasure. Bye.” “You’re getting better at that.” “Thanks.” He booped your nose. “So it’s been a few weeks since you came to the Hideout, would you like to drop in tonight and see us?” You smiled taking his hand in yours. “Only if you promise not to stray off this time.” “I didn’t last time, I just… I wasn’t thinking.” You scowled at him and pinched his hand. “Okay! I promise, I’ll make sure to keep my eyes on the most beautiful girl in the room.” “And who will that be?” He clenched his teeth and pondered. “Not sure, I’ll find out when I get there.” “Munson you’re impossible.” “I know, but you still love me right beautiful?” You blushed. “Yeah. Get back to work!” “Oh, so bossy!”
****************************************************
Eddie was as good as the last time you saw him, however his shirtless performance now replaced with a tattered shirt and jeans, the eyeliner was still there however; which pleased you. “You know, if you wore that more often, you’d have snagged me a lot quicker.” He smirked. “Really? You got a thing for the heavy liner on me?” “Are you kidding! It’s hot.” You leaned in to kiss him, “Ugh! This is so gross! I mean yay you two are together but do you have to be so…” “Cute!” Robin replied to aid Steve. “Exactly! I’m losing my lunch over here!”
Nancy sipped her vodka soda and leaned into Jonathan laughing. “I mean, they are in love Steve. What’s wrong with that?” “Nothing, but keep those comments in the bedroom, I don’t need to hear your pillow talk while I’m trying to get that girl at the bar to come home with me.” You all peered over to see a cute redhead with a belly ring and flame tattoos on her breasts. “I would’ve never guessed that would turn you on Harrington?” Eddie joked. “I mean I’d like to see where those tattoos end.” The whole table mocked a puking sound. “And we’re disgusting?” You quipped and sipped your whiskey. Eddie pulled you into his lap and let you rest your head on his shoulders.
“Steve, I can’t believe you.” You hissed, he smirked and headed over the bar to shoot his shot. The table all leaned in to watch the show. Eddie tightened his grip on your waist and shoulder. Steve made a few gestures and leaned over on the bar as the girl smiled at him; then grabbed her drink and promptly threw it in his face. He looked back as you all applauded and cheered him when he returned. “That was great Steve. Really riveting.” “Oh shut up Munson.” Eddie laughed and pulled you into for another kiss. “Not again.” “Steve, please, it’s not their fault you’re a failure at dating tonight.” Robin pulled out the Hawkins tribune and turned to the horoscope section.
“Ah! Look Leo; you’re not so lucky tonight. It cautions you from trying anything foolish or it will fail.” You all laughed and raised a glass. “I can’t argue with that one.” Eddie remarked. “Okay how about Munson then! Let’s see what it says for you.” Robin amused Steve’s request and leaned towards Eddie. “October twenty ninth.” She nodded and perused the column. “Okay, Scorpio; your love is in bloom and now is the perfect time to get your relationship started.” The whole table laughed but you. Eddie shook your shoulders. “Babe? You okay?” You felt your face grow pale and all the blood drop to your toes.
“What sign did you say he was Robin?” “Scorpio? You knew, dark and mysterious types.” “Oh wow, that’s Munson alright.” Jonathan laughed and Eddie smirked as he finished his drink. “Seriously babe? You okay?” “Eddie I need to go home now.” Everyone pleaded and apologized, not really for anything specific and you knew they didn’t need to do that. “I just, I don’t feel well guys. I’ll just go home and lie down.” “Munson, I swear did already get her pregnant!” Steve laughed and Eddie shoved him back into his seat. Steve had a few too many and all the sweet normal conversations were laced with cruelty tonight.
“I’ll take you home F/N. You want to talk about it.” You shook your head and waited by the door for Eddie as he said his goodbyes to the band and met Jack with you. “Was it Steve? You know, I like the guy but when he gets drunk like that he can be an ass.” You shook your head and climbed into the van. “Was it something I did?” Another head shake. Eddie climbed in and started down the road. “It had to be something?” “It’s… I can’t really explain it right now.” He glanced back to you. “Is it bad?” “No, I’m just scared.” “Of what?” You stared out the window, the road passed under your feet at lightning speed. “Everything.”
****************************************************
“Okay, I’ll walk you inside.” “It’s fine Eddie. If you want to meet up with the gang I’ll understand. I just need to get some sleep.” He shrugged. “Maybe I could help with that too?” You sighed and looked back at your feet. “Eddie, I’m not really wanting to have sex now. I just need to figure something out.” “Okay. Just a joke.” He paused and took a step closer to you. “What is it? Seriously, what got you so freaked out back there?”
“Eddie, do you believe in fate?” He shrugged, and sat on the steps, you took the spot beside him. “That depends. Because it would be truly fucked up for fate to prank me as it has over the years if it exists. Do you?” You sighed and looked down at your fingers, twisting the rings and pulling them off. “I didn’t think so, but maybe I’m wrong.” “What does fate have to do with that moment back there.” You groaned and looked up at the stars and back to Eddie. “I’m going to need you to have an open mind for this one Eddie.” He nodded as you began to recount the psychic tale.

Written In The Stars: Eddie Munson X (Fem) Reader
Summary: soulmates, astrology, and tarot were all silly in your mind. You scoffed at the idea of someone being out there for you and the “universe” having a special purpose for you. There’s no such thing and it’s all a hoax, right?
Slow burn, strangers to friends, friends to lovers, reader is not from Hawkins and bonds with Eddie and his gang. Just two idiots who don’t know they’re falling in love. Eventual smut but it’s going to be a long and slow build. ❤️🔥
Part Nine:
“Mom! What’s wrong with you? You can’t just barge into someone’s house like this!” She straightened the strap on her purse and looked over at Eddie. “You didn’t call and I was getting worried. I called Jackie who told me she’d seen you over here!” Aunt Jackie sighed and peaked from behind her sister’s towering presence. “Sorry sweetheart, I tried to tell her that it wasn’t anything serious. You two are adults. But she seen you from the window and I couldn’t stop her.” You groaned, Eddie sat back on the couch and rubbed his hands over his eyes.
“I’m going to have to ask you all to leave. If you don’t mind!” “I’ve had just about enough of you mister!” Your mom stood over glaring at Eddie. Her eyes pierced his and her face blazing red. You’d never seen her so enraged. Eddie wasn’t faring much better. “Listen! You break down my door, you’ve called me names, you’ve been on my ass ever since you met me! And honestly Mary, I’ve been nothing but nice to you. But I’m done being nice. You’re selfish and all you want is for F/N to suffer alongside you because you’re unhappy!”
Your mom gawked, if you and Jackie weren’t here she’d wack Eddie with her purse. “You see, F/N he’s a bad one this guy. I told you not to talk to him. I told you he was trouble. And you remember what I said if ever caught you two? Well that still stands. Gather your things tonight and get out!” “With pleasure mom. I think Eddie’s right.” “How dare you say such a terrible thing to your mother. You know what the Bible says, honor and respect your parents.” “Well Jesus didn’t meet you, mother! You’d probably be with the Romans crucifying him. You’d probably do that to Eddie too!” “Um actually I think it wasn’t the Romans it was…” Eddie started before Jackie tapped him on the shoulder. He stopped.
“Well I guess you could live in this pig pen with your sex fiend boyfriend!” “Mary we haven’t been sleeping together! She’s my friend! But I think her leaving your house is the best thing she could do. And if I could manage it, I’d let her crash here.” You smiled, a little part of you hurt by Eddie just calling you a friend, especially after being so close to whatever it was on the couch. But you imagined a life with Eddie again, it wouldn’t be picket fences and green shutters like your mom would want to see; it’d be more of a small home that has a square patch as a lawn and chain link fences;m, but you could see Eddie happy with it and Eddie happy to have you in his life. Burnt coffee, stale toast and screaming infants; with Eddie you’d take all of it.
“Figures, you’d probably knock her up and leave me to pay for the kid!” “Mary I’d never…” “Edward, stop.” Jackie interrupted and placed herself between your mom and Eddie. “Mom and Dad would be so disappointed in you. Mary you always wanted the world to revolve around you, and never once cared about who you hurt. Frank nearly left you several times, if it wasn’t for that little munchkin you had, he would’ve. Why can’t you for once just let people be happy without them having to fit into your ideal world. Eddie’s not perfect by your standards, but he’s a great person.” She looked back at you and then to Eddie. “You should be ashamed Mary, I’m ashamed of you. To tell your daughter things like you’ve said, and the things you said to a man you barely know?”
“F/N?” You looked back to Jackie who held her arms out to you. “Get your things from Mary’s, whatever you can’t grab, we will get in the morning. Eddie can help.” “What’s going on?” “You’re coming to live with me until you can get a place of your own. I’ll work out some deal with rent and bills for you too. Is that okay?” You looked back at your mom, her head hanging low as she surveyed the scene of her crime. “Absolutely.”
****************************************************
Eddie’s picture was the first thing you snatched along with the ticket stub from the movies and the matchbox from the Hideout. You’d grabbed the few keepsakes of Eddie and placed them in a shoebox while grabbing what else you could manage tonight. Eddie said he and Wayne would be by in the morning to get your bed and the rest of your furniture. As unhappy as mom was, she had to comply with the terms because Wayne threatened to press charges for her breaking into his trailer, Hopper himself would be pleased to carry out the arrest.
You looked back at her one last time, her arms folded across her chest and a sour look on her face. “Bye.” “No bye mom anymore?” “How about, bye Mary?” She winced and walked behind the door to close it after you left. Jackie drove off with you and Eddie in tow. The last couple months spent there while miserable also held the memories of so much with Eddie. But now he’d be right beside you everyday, this seemed to dawn on him too as a small smirk hit his face. “I guess you’re free now?” “Not quite.” Jackie interjected, her eyes focused on the road. “F/N? I want you to be in the trailer by midnight on weekdays, I have a job too and I can’t have you stumbling through the door waking me up.” You nodded. “You’ll pay for a quarter of the rent and utilities. TV volume must be low when I’m in bed, I know sometimes you like to watch it late, but be respectful. Edward I want no weed in my house.” He shook his head. “No Ma’am, I’ll keep that stuff away.” “And tomorrow morning, bring Wayne over for coffee before we head to Mary’s.” “That’s a great deal Jackie.” Eddie smiled. She smirked and continued out to Forest Hills.
****************************************************
“Good morning!” Eddie chimed as you groaned, your anxiety kept you awake. While you grabbed most of the stuff needed for your new residence, the sounds outside were not the normal ones. Families argued loudly over here and would occasionally take those fights to the bench outside. Last night a fight broke out over some guy who cheated on his girlfriend with some other man in the park. It was a whole deal and sadly you could write the episode for Days of Our Lives with the details you gathered.
“Oh, sorry. Wayne is coming by in a minute. Oddly the man is fixing his hair. He never does that, so he must really want to make a good impression on you.” Eddie swung the chair out and sat in it with his chin resting on the back. “Called Harry, we get the day off and he’s also willing to give you a few extra shifts to get some extra cash.” You nodded. “He’s also really happy to hear about the baby.” “Great, glad to hear.” You felt your eyes glaze and get heavy before the realization hit. “BABY!” Eddie cackled. “Gotcha!” You slapped him on the shoulder just as Wayne walked in.
“Hmmm, not even been here a full day and you two are already fighting like a married couple.” “Oh for fucks sake.” You groaned into your hands. “Did I offend?” “I made a pregnancy joke and now you’re making a marriage joke, seems F/N is having a life changing morning.” Wayne looked back at his nephew, indifferent to his remark. “Make sure you name the first born after me.” He walked over to the couch as you slammed your head on the table. “Relax, F/N. It’s just fun. Do you want some more coffee, or something else.” Eddie chuckled. “Maybe coffee, I can’t sleep well yet. My back kills from the couch too.”
Eddie sat a cup in front of you before walking behind you and began kneading your back. The accuracy of his fingers felt amazing. “Let me know if I’m going too hard.” “Nope that feels good.” You said as your body relaxed. “Should we go outside?” Jackie asked as Eddie halted the impromptu massage. “Morning Jackie.” “Eddie, F/N, Wayne.” She said Wayne’s name in a singsong tone, her face lit up when she saw him and his expression likewise. You and Eddie looked back to each other and then to them. “Should we leave you two alone?” Eddie mused, Wayne chucked a napkin ball at his head, which Eddie laughed at.
“How’d you sleep F/N?” You groaned, Eddie resumed giving you the back massage. “The couch is a little uncomfortable, hence this.” You pointed to Eddie who you knew was giving that Cheshire Cat grin. “And your other neighbors are a bit louder than I’m used to.” “Oh Roy and Gina? Don’t worry, they’re the only ones. Roy is always bringing someone else home and Gina will scream and yell before they get back together.” You grimaced. “That’s not ideal.” “Then the cycle will repeat and you’ll get used to it.”
“Or I could go with you to the store and pick up some ear plugs?” Eddie whispered, his tone slightly seductive. How the hell could ear plugs be sexy? “That’s a deal.” “And maybe later we could help with those nerves of yours?” “What’d you have in mind for that?” He stopped the massage and rested his chin on your shoulder, his lips pressed to the conch of your ear. “I have a stash from my buddy Rick, he still has dealers but he cuts me in sometimes. Thought maybe you’d like to try a batch?” His response was a breathy whisper, more seductive than the ear plugs remark. Your spine shivered at his statement. “Maybe.”
“Hey! Kids you ready to go?” Wayne interrupted. Eddie leaned back and walked out the door. You stood up and slowly followed them out to the car, unable to stop the rush of thoughts in your mind. Visions of you and Eddie in a daze from weed finally letting go and the ecstasy of that moment. Flashes to last night and the near miss; you wondered what would have happened, how far would Eddie have gone? You glanced over at him while he started up the van, Jackie and Wayne were in the truck ahead.
“Eddie?” He stayed focused on the road, but perked up. “Hmmm?” “Last night, before we were; well for lack of a better term, interrupted.” “Yeah?” His tone dropped, you could already hear the panic settling in his voice. “What was that?” He chuckled. “Honestly, I don’t know.” You tightened your grasp on your jeans. “What does that mean, exactly?” “It means I don’t know what happened before your mom burst in the trailer. I don’t know why I… acted that way. It was wrong… right?” You stayed laser focused on him, his focus was on the road. “Eddie? What are we doing?” “Um getting your stuff if my memory serves me correctly.” “No, I mean…” “I know what you mean F/N… I don’t know.”
The car came to a red light and Eddie used this time to finally turn and face you. “I don’t know what we are, but I like you. I have liked you ever since you came into the store and yelled at me for nearly hitting you with my van. I thought, wow that is probably the most beautiful women I’ve seen and she’s so cute when she’s yelling like this. Then, at Mark’s funeral when we talked and later that night it just… it was like I couldn’t get rid of you.” You smiled, the light turned green and Eddie started out, focused on the road but still deep into the confession.
“I won’t lie, I assumed you’d be out of Hawkins before I’d wake the next day after the funeral. Which I didn’t like because I wanted you, maybe not like I do now, but I did want you.” He let that sink in a moment, Eddie wanted you. The moment you strolled into his life screaming about his poor driving while he was getting Pizza Rolls for the Hellfire Club, he wanted to have you. You felt a shy grin creep into your face, you turned away to make sure Eddie didn’t catch it, but you knew he did when that cute chuckle of his came back. “Then, you dropped that bombshell and I was actually happy. I haven’t had anything that’s made me happy like this in years. So while I felt bad about how it happened, inside I was jumping up and down. That is until I met your mom again.” You groaned. “I can imagine this encounter.” Eddie made a turn down the road opposite your house, inevitably prolonging the conversation.
“She accused me of getting you drunk and having my way with you. Called me a swine and was really scary; honestly I was more scared for you. I couldn’t leave you in that situation, but I had to. I feel like in some ways I failed you that night. Sure I drove you back and kept that one guy who was eye fucking you at the bar from getting too close, but I couldn’t stand up to your mom.” Eddie finally turned onto your street and inched towards your house, his eyes were watery and red. “Somehow, you kept coming back into my life. Like no matter what we’d have to be near each other. It’s weird.” He parked the van behind Wayne’s truck, the two were already inside.
“Eddie?” He looked over with just his eyes, his head resting on the steering wheel. “Were you jealous Steve took me to the movies.” He groaned. “Yes.” You patted his shoulder. “Well I was jealous too you know?” “Of who?” “That girl at the Hideout, the blonde who you seemed to be flirting with.” Eddie’s face got red. “Nothing happened okay! I talked with her but… all I could think about was you. When you left I walked back to the group and she was gone too. I went home alone after I got drunk.” He let the tears fall and the panicked cries filled his van. “I thought you would never want to speak to me again.” You unbuckled your seatbelt and reached over to hug him, he shivered under your touch.
“Wait… you were jealous? So does that… did you like me or something?” You let him go and looked him dead in the eyes. Those wet sopping brown puppy dog eyes you’d fallen in love with the moment they first met your gaze. Easing forward you paused inches from his lips. “Or something.” Finally closing the gap between you both, Eddie leaned into the kiss, his back straightening up and pulling you closer. It started out with a sweet tender kiss and grew more hungry, Eddie was practically devouring your lips and losing breath. His tongue making its way into your throat and his teeth biting your lower lip. You mirrored his actions, feeling the knot growing in your stomach, the want of Eddie.
You broke it off with a loud snap, knowing full well where this would lead. “Not yet Eddie!” “Wait, what? Why?” It wasn’t the whiny cry most men would display at getting cockblocked, but more confused as to why you who were just as turned on would not want this to escalate. “Well one were in front of my mom’s house which we need to go inside and get my shit. Second… I’ve never… like that was my… first…” His eyes widened. “I’m the first person you’ve ever kissed?” You nodded sheepishly. “Well I must say, I’d have never thought that. You know what you’re doing.” You giggled and Eddie sat up, he straightened his jacket. “But I think I understand. Let me know when you want… I mean when I… well just say when.” You smiled, Eddie jumped out and opened your door, picking you up in his arms to lower you down, like a princess being hoisted from a carriage. You both walked inside ready to face the music.
****************************************************
Eddie and Wayne took your bed, dresser, bookshelf and vanity loading them into the back of Eddie’s van. Jackie helped you gather the rest of your clothes, books and VHS tapes before you both put them in the bed of Wayne’s truck. Thankfully your boxes from the move hadn’t been tossed aside, maybe Mary had been planning you to leave or to kick you out for a while. You looked around the room you’d come back to for the last three months, the place you’d called home and wanted it to be just that.
“Are you ready dear?” Jackie asked. You nodded tearfully, taking one last look at the room which had only served as temporary to you. The idea of moving twice in less than six months had to be a record somewhere you assumed, but not a record you wanted to break. You grabbed the last box from the empty room; your phone, and a few photos of your friends from Ohio. Smiling softly as you closed the door leaving it behind for the last time.

Part Eight:
You found yourself counting down the hours to see Eddie again; you’d seen his Hellfire work but his artwork was seriously amazing. Tracing over the sketch all weekend as lightly as you could to feel those dips in the paper and the flecks of charcoal that broke off permanently embedded into the paper. His skill was so great, you felt guilty having it because it should go to a museum.
The door opening behind you broke the daydream and you twirled your chair to face him. “How was your weekend L/N?” You couldn’t contain the smirk. “Not too bad Picasso.” The blush forming on the tip of Eddie’s nose made him look like an animated reindeer. “Oh, so you found that.” You nodded as you stood to walk over towards him. Eddie sheepishly hung his coat on the wall and began to wipe the back of his neck nervously. “Listen, I know that was a bit weird and not really something that I should’ve done so I’m sorry.” “No! Don’t apologize.” Eddie paused the fidget fest and relaxed against the wall. “Really?” “I mean it was a little bit unconventional but it’s the most creative way I’ve been asked to join a group outing. Not to mention you have some serious talent.”
He poured a cup of coffee and walked over to your desk, taking a seat on it and facing your seat. “Nah, it’s not that great.” “Munson! Don’t do that self depreciation talk on my watch.” You slid into your seat and rolled it over towards him, resting your chin on his knee as you looked up at him. Eddie giggled at the sight momentarily but then he stilled to listen. “You’re an incredible artist Eddie, not to mention you write music, you are incredibly animated at your theatrics in D&D, what else can I add?” “Repair cars?” He said in a monotonous voice, you had to slap him in the leg for the bitterness he had towards himself. “Hey! Don’t be ashamed of that, it’s a skill! You are amazing Eddie! Why do you always make it seem like what you do means nothing?”
He looked down at you, his eyes were warm pools of caramel from the morning sun that peaked through the window, you could feel the sudden warmth and comfort you felt when you first looked into them. You wanted to apologize for everything and you didn’t even know what it was you were sorry for, his eyes just make you feel empathy on the deepest level. Eddie smiled sheepishly and hopped off the desk.
He went to his toolbox in the back and began to fiddle with a socket wrench, attaching different heads and pacing around before making his way back to your office.“I live in Hawkins. The only ones who find success here are football players or whatever other sports they play. And even then their highest achievement, real estate.” He slammed the wrench into his palm, not hard enough to break it but just enough to where his eyes twitched with the shock of pain. “I swear, I used to think there was some big practical joke being played on me as a kid. Like my family was actually going to leave this place and I’d find out I could be the best guitarist ever. But…” he looked back at you, placing the wrench on the desk before resuming his position he previously held. “But, this is it. I’m not going to be the next Keith Richards, or Kirk Hammett. I’m just a mechanic with a lost dream and nothing to show for it.”
With that Eddie grabbed the wrench heading back to his station. He started to attempt a tire adjustment; occasionally he’d pause and glance back at you. At this moment, had things not been so damn confusing or frustrating with Eddie, you’d run out of the office and kiss him. Jump into his arms, let him hold you close and just let go. Your mind fixated on the kiss scene from Some Kind Of Wonderful; the visual idea of Eddie as Eric Stoltz was not too impossible to conjure in your brain. Eddie glanced at you again, he dropped his wrench and made his way back to the office, your heart raced. Images of Eric and then Eddie merged into this one being that you desperately wanted to have holding you right this moment.
“Hey?” Eddie knocked on the door frame and smiled at you in his sad puppy way. “I’m sorry I rained that pity party onto you.” “S’okay.” You shrugged. “So, are you still wanting to come to the session on Friday?” You nodded and Eddie did a little dance before pausing and rushing back to his spot. You giggled as he ran away like someone in a cartoon, he was adorable in everything he did. It was impossible to ignore it, you had feelings for Eddie Munson, and more than having just any feelings, you actually felt like you were falling in love with him.
****************************************************
“What?” You shushed Brittany, she began to fall into a string of curse words. Normally you wouldn’t stick around for lunch but you asked Harry providing you could make a call for your “mom’s birthday party” He agreed. You felt like shit lying to him; but you didn’t want mom to hear the call, to have to use the pay phone across the street when your change was running low and Eddie is working through his lunch today.
“You said you didn’t like him.” “Well that’s not what this is.” “Obviously! You’ve skipped straight into love! You haven’t kissed! You haven’t had a date with the guy! He hasn’t even fingered you!” Pete walked by and cleared his throat. You blushed and covered the receiver with your hand. “Quiet! And keep the crass language to a minimum, I’m at work!” “Oh for fucks sake! Can Rapunzel hear me?” You groaned, but checked to see Eddie now shirtless and adjusting the overhead light. “Don’t call him that, it’s mean. And no he can’t hear you. He’s busy.” “Wow, you’re already defending this man’s honor. You are head over heels.” You sighed. “Go Go’s level.”
“So, do you plan to ask him out?” “Well, I don’t… I don’t know.” The line went silent, you could hear a slight cracking that was either Brittany’s neck or knuckles; she always cracked her joints when she was stressed. “Are you kidding me?” Her voice raised and you shushed her again, she groaned and lowered it to a more stern motherly tone. “You have these fantasies of this guy pulling a Eric Stoltz kiss on you, you dressed up for him, reach for him during a scary movie and he’s also given you a drawing to showcase that he likes you. What other signs do we need you to be looking out for here?” “Britt, it’s not that easy.” “Yes it is. Just say; Eddie, I’d like to go out with you, just the two of us.” You felt your stomach flip at the thought, looking back to Eddie he started to get his clothes back on and head inside. “Shit! He’s coming!” “Haha! I bet you’d like…” you slammed the phone down.
“Well… can’t say that’s not suspicious.” “WhAt?” You heard your voice crack and felt the heat burning on your neck. “What are you plotting there?” “Seriously Eddie it was just my friend Brittany, but she can be a little… a little bit more than most can deal with.” He nodded and leaned on the desk, taking a chip from your open bag. “Makes sense, best way to stop that is just hang up.” You laughed and Eddie sat back in the desk. “So you have any idea what race and class you’d like to be?” “What?” “For the campaign. You need to pick a race and class. Just come by my place after work and we can get some of my old books on the game. I’ll help you set up a character. You don’t want to walk in and not have a plan.” He took another chip and smirked at you. “Right.” You felt the breath in your lungs evaporate and almost coughed for air. “You doing okay Princess? You don’t look too good. Is it the heat again?” You shook your head and headed to the bathroom.
You stood there staring at the face in the mirror; plain, pale, rather common. You never deemed yourself as ugly but you never thought of yourself as stunning either. Staring back in your own eyes you found yourself wondering what a child with your face and Eddie’s eyes would look like, poor thing would fair better, if they looked exactly like Eddie instead. Having his amazing jawline, that cute button nose, sweet smile, that dimple in his left cheek, his broad shoulders, that hair, everything just so perfect. You tossed a handful of cold water on your face and then the door began to shake. “Do you need to go home? Harry wants to make sure.” “No Eddie I’m fine, just a little bit tired.” “I’ll make you some coffee then. Okay?” “Okay.” You could picture that hurt face of his perfectly.
Thankfully Eddie was kept pretty busy after lunch and you tried to bury yourself in sorting some old files for Harry’s records. One more highlighted line with the words Ford Motor Company and you’ll go postal. “You ready?” Eddie stood at your desk with a smile as wide as the Grand Canyon. “Sure. Can’t be too long right?” “Actually we will probably be busy for a while with this. I’m going to order some Pizza.” “How long does this take? I know the game is long but to make a character, you’ve got to be joking.” “Depends on how much you’re going to keep fighting me on this. Now before we get started I have a really important question.” You looked back at Eddie, his face serious now and brimming with concern. “What topping do you want on the pizza?”
****************************************************
“I’m telling you! You cannot be a chaotic neutral character.” “Why?” “Because I have three others doing that and it’s just massive chaos all over. I forbid it.” “Munson, I don’t take orders from you on this.” “Oh yes you will I am the dungeon master and what I say goes. I’m in control and you obey.” “What happens if I disobey?” Eddie paused and blushed, looking back at a page in the book that discussed a monster. “You’ll never do that.” “I am now. I want to be a chaotic Druid Elf. Or maybe a gnome.” “Why a gnome now?” “I think it would be funny.” He cackled and looked over the sheets you both had attempted to work on.
Eddie mused with one while eating a slice of pizza when a drop of sauce landed on the center of his shirt. “Shit! Figures.” He sighed before tossing the papers to try and get to his room. “Wait, give me the shirt.” “Why?” “Cause moron, you want to treat that before it sets. Hand me the shirt and I’ll get the stain out.” He groaned before lifting the shirt over his head.
You’d seen Eddie shirtless countless times at work and the night at the Hideout, but something about this one was particularly more sexy than the rest. Maybe because he removed the shirt instead of just waltzing around without one or because he obeyed an order from you? His chest rose and fell as he looked at you, the demon tattoo staring into your soul, begging you to bite the milky flesh that was on full display. Eddie bit his lip in and shook his hair out; while time may have paused for you it seemed to go normally for Eddie. “Thanks, I’ll just get decent.”
You rinsed the shirt in the sink with some dish soap and it looked as good as before. Then you gathered up the books and papers to set aside before getting your things to head out. Eddie walked out, an old shirt with Hawkins High Marching Band plastered across the chest now on and his hair seemed to be brushed and styled. “Hey! Why don’t you just stick around for a bit longer? Wayne doesn’t get off work for a few more hours and besides it’s just me here and it can get kind of lonely.”
You smiled, trying to hide your blush as best as you could. “Well I imagine that right hand of yours is good enough company sometimes.” Eddie blew out a raspberry laughing at the joke. “Wow, okay way to do that one.” “Hey I don’t judge, you do you… obviously.” “Ha. Ha. Very amusing, you can leave now I don’t feel like sharing my home with such a perverse individual.” “Wow Eddie Munson I had no idea you were a prude!” You plopped on the couch beside him as he nudged your head playfully. He switched on the TV.
An old Black and White rerun of The Andy Griffith Show played; Andy and Barney trying to get through an old haunted house without getting too freaked out. Eddie laughed a few times as did you. “Too bad we’re not watching another classic.” “What?” “Oh I think you know.” Eddie turned; puzzled before the realization hit him in the face. “Okay I get it. Haha. Eddie Munson, Eddie Munster. I got that a lot as a kid.” You shoved his shoulder. “How about a little howl. C’mon Eddie. Howl like your predecessor.” He shoved you back. “No, stop being so annoying.”
You continued to hit his shoulder and pester him while he playfully fought back before grabbing both your arms and pinning you down into the couch. You relaxed your body, the opposite of what Eddie might expect, you felt your legs open up and your thighs clenching his midsection between you. Both of you had the other in a hold and eyes locked in a deep penetrative gaze. You shifted your body downward a little and Eddie chuckled. “Where do you think you’re going?” “Why are you going to try and follow me?” He paused, licking his lips and looking you up and down; sizing you like an item for auction. One he’d be placing all his money to get his hands on. “That depends.”
Eddie slowly loosened the grip on your right wrist and trailed his hand down your arm, across your shoulder, up your neck until he reached your face. His thumb placed on the center of your chin and the rest of his fingers caressing the soft spot where your jaw and neck meet. He leaned in, you could feel his hot breath tickling the tiny hairs on your body. You braced yourself, wanting and longing for this moment. Your breath shaking and quickening as he was centimeters away from your lips.
The door swung open and Eddie threw himself off you as your mother and Aunt Jackie stormed in. “Just what the hell is happening here?”

Written in the stars: Eddie X (Fem) Reader
Summary: soulmates, astrology, and tarot were all silly in your mind. You scoffed at the idea of someone being out there for you and the “universe” having a special purpose for you. There’s no such thing and it’s all a hoax, right?
*************************************
Slow burn, strangers to friends, friends to lovers, reader is not from Hawkins and bonds with Eddie and his gang. Just two idiots who don’t know they’re falling in love. Eventual smut but it’s going to be a long and slow build. ❤️🔥
Part seven:
The summer had begun for Hawkins and you couldn’t believe the unbearable heat that engulfed the area in the last two weeks of June. Harry had to run two large industrial size fans in the garage and you had to snag a few rocks from a nearby quarry to make sure none of your papers flew away. The heat had also gotten to Eddie who had opted to take the top half of his coveralls off and occasionally his undershirt as well.
You often found yourself glancing at Eddie’s body, glistening with sweat and his chest heaving as he tried to work. If the heat didn’t kill you, that certainly would. The week following the movie was awkward and neither of you spoke much aside from the casual work conversation. Asking when a repair would be ready or a car was coming in. You’d say goodbye, bitch about the weather and then start over. The closeness that was once there had been crumbling away after that damn night at the Hideout.
Today was going to be particularly painful; weather forecast was ninety six degrees in Hawkins with a humidity level of about forty five percent. You decided to just take a chance and wear your white tank top and tiny shorts; Harry didn’t care, and with this heat no one was going to mind. Your mom lay on the couch with her fan on and a bowl of ice in front of it. You bid her a goodbye but she just groaned. Opting to come in earlier than normal, the sooner you opened the door before the sun rose the better; once that sun hits that handle it’s like a hot iron branding your skin.
You didn’t bother with the coffee as you knew no one would be crazy enough to get one, instead you grabbed a soda from the vending machine and held the can to your neck to cool down, the back door opening didn’t even alert you. “Jesus!” Eddie shouted before panting. “I know, it’s going to be worse today.” You mumbled, as you put the can down and began fanning yourself with a Manila folder. “No kidding. Are you going to be alright?” He asked setting his lunch in the fridge, holding the door open longer to let the cool breeze graze his skin.
“Close that door Munson, the food will spoil.” He obeyed your request and ran over to turn on the fans, but not before ensuring all your papers and documents were secured under their rocks. The air coming from them was not much better, hot air blew through the room along with some dust. You groaned as did Eddie. Then a smile beamed in his face and he snapped his fingers turning back to the fridge. “What the hell are you up to now?” “Just wait!” You looked back to see him raid the freezer and giggling like a child who was mixing various things together before daring his friends to drink it. However Eddie returned with something much more appealing.
“No way!” You exclaimed; reaching out for the wax wrapper and ripping into it immediately. “I forgot I bought some back in April for the club and left them here. Feel free to have as many as you need.” Your eyes danced as you looked at the red, white and blue popsicle. You’d been avoiding that freezer since you started fearing the contents inside would be something like a dead mouse or one of Eddie’s bags of pizza rolls; this was a discovery you would have killed to know all week. “Munson, I could kiss you for this! Thank you.” You sucked on the popsicle as Eddie blushed and went back to his workbench; he stood there a minute before the coveralls were pulled down and the undershirt discarded into his tool cabinet. You looked momentarily; but the image was becoming a staple that no longer made you feel flustered, a realization you took as a success.
By lunch the building felt like an oven and you a roast dinner. You could smell the sweat from every being that entered the room; it lingered for hours. Sweet and sour odors mixed with the stench of WD40 and gasoline. You felt like vomiting, your stomach lurched and flipped inside you. Heaving yourself over the desk you began to feel the entire pressure in your stomach trying to push itself out. Eddie saw this and ditched the work, alerting Pete and Harry. He took you to the back where there was a sink and started to splash cold water on your face.
You leaned over to the trash can and felt your body dispose of your breakfast and the popsicle. You fell back and looked at Eddie. “I threw up.” “I see that.” He took a paper towel, running cold water over it and placing it on your forehead, he grabbed another one to place over your chest. Looking down at you and trying desperately to cool your temperature before your body began to shake and he pulled you into his. “No, F/N! Don’t do this!” Harry returned with a bottle of water which he and Eddie tried to get you to drink, only a small drop went in. “Harry she needs to the get to hospital; do we take her or should we call for help?” “I’ll call, you stay with her.” Eddie held onto you, his hands stroking your hair away from your face. “Stay with me, don’t you go now.”
****************************************************
“F/N?” You opened your eyes, the room was now white and over-lit by florescent bulbs, beeping and buzzing sounds surrounded you. Your mom stood at the foot of your bed, well the bed you were occupying. “What happened?” You felt silly asking as all you remember was you didn’t like the smells in the garage and wanted to get away. “You had a heat stroke sweetie. Don’t worry, the doctor said you were one of twenty cases today. They’ve had them all week. This heat is unbearable. I keep praying it will cool off.” You tried to sit up but your body felt as if it had been steamrolled and you were left as a limp, gelatinous shell. “What happened at the garage?” She sighed and took a seat in the chair by you. The concern gone instantly as if she knew what you really meant. Is Eddie okay?
“It’s fine. They called to get you out, one rode in the ambulance with you, that one boy I don’t like.” You stirred and reached for the water pitcher by your bed. Your mom got up urging you to stay still, grabbing the pitcher and cup for you. “You can’t have much; you might get sick again.” She filled the cup a quarter of the way and you sipped it. “Mrs. L/N?” A nurse poked her head in and smiled at you, your mom looked up, now angry and annoyed. “Don’t tell me he’s…” “No, we just have some forms you need to sign.” She nodded and left you after giving you a big hug. “I won’t be long.”
You laid back and stared at the TV in the wall of your room, some daytime soap with a couple making out in a hot tub before things began to escalate. “May want to avoid watching things like that hot stuff, could cause you to faint again.” You looked towards the door, there was Eddie with a bouquet of lilies, a balloon that said Get Well, and a bear with a bandage on its head and a thermometer in its mouth. You smiled as he walked in and placed the stuff on the table opposite you. “So, how are you feeling?” “Dizzy.” “Should I get the nurse?” You shook your head, but that proved to be a bit more of a a hassle than you assumed groaning you laid back into the pillow. “No, it’s fine Eddie. I just need to relax.” “Would you like some company?” “Sure.”
Eddie took your mom’s seat and pulled it closer to you. His hair was tied into a tight bun under a red bandanna, his face still coated in a layer of grease, as were his hands. It looked as though he’d just abandoned his post at work to come by for a chat without caring to clean up. “Well first thing, Harry insists that you take the rest of the week off.” You smiled, tears forming as you asked Eddie to thank Harry for you. He nodded and crossed his arms, sticking the tip of his tongue out of the corner of his lips as he pondered before a grin widened into his cheeks.
“So after we had you picked up and closed the garage temporarily, one of my former classmates came by to get his car worked on but no one was at the garage. This fucker, Jason decides to open the doors and leave a message with his keys that demanded his car be fixed by tomorrow.” Your eyes widened with anticipation and shock, you’d heard the men discuss Jason but never seen him before and so far this tracked though. “Unfortunately for him Hopper was passing by when he used a bolt cutter on the lock. He’s cooling off in the jail cell.”
You giggled and Eddie smiled, he stood up to stretched before looking down at you, his face was careworn and his eyes puffy, he’d been crying before he arrived and obviously the stress of the day took quite a toll on his face. He reached his hand out and stroked a strand of hair away from your face, a soft smile formed on his lips. “How the heck did you get in here?” You looked back to the door, your mother had her arms folded and a stern pout on her lips. “I was just checking on her, Harry also sends his regards but he couldn’t make it.” Your mother smirked and Eddie pulled his hand away. “Would you mind leaving us Mr. Munson. My daughter has had quite a hard day and she needs to rest?” He nodded and gave you a smile before he left. “Bye Eddie.” You crooned, he turned back, that smile came back but it was more like the one you’d seen the night at the Hideout, he waved and headed down the hall.
“I really don’t like that boy. And I wish you didn’t stay at that awful place he works at either. Nothing but terrible people there.” She huffed and closed the door. “You aren’t going to get anywhere in this town if you hang around the likes of the Munson’s or any of the men that work there.” You pressed the button on your bed to raise up and face your mother. “Stop. He came by to check on me. He’s being nice, and you were incredibly rude to him.” “Well I don’t like how he was looking at you. He’s always staring.” You chuckled. Then the door opened again, Aunt Jackie had a bundle of yellow balloons. Her face was red and drenched with perspiration.
She walked over to your bedside and smiled. “Hi kiddo. You feeling better?” You nodded and your mom groaned again as she flipped through a magazine. “What about her?” She nodded her head at your mom. “Eddie was just here, and mom is not fond of him.” “Oh Mary relax, like I said he’s a good kid.” Your mom dropped the magazine on the table with a loud thwack.
“I just wish he’d stop chasing my daughter around town, she’s far too good for the likes of him.” Jackie groaned and sat on the bed, her hands traced the stitching on the blanket. “Mary sometimes you see only what’s on the surface. And mom always said you need to look at the actions of people and not what they look like.” Your mom growled and headed to the window, a loud crack of thunder and a flash of lightning lit through. You all turned and looked at each other with a big smile on your face as the heavenly sound of rain echoed on the ground below.
***************************************************
By Friday you couldn’t take much more of the constant babying your mother was doing, so you arrived at your usual time at the garage much to Harry’s displeasure. He begged you to take extra time to recover and ensured that everything was fine. When you opened the door you could see that was not the case, the building was in shambles and the papers on your desk all disorganized and scattered. The rain showers had plagued Hawkins now and cooled it down significantly but it also left water running into everything; including Harry’s garage. The floor was covered in water and oil, the room now had a musty smell and you could feel your feet sliding as you tried to move around.
Eddie came in; his coat covering his head and groaning about the Midwest weather situation. You smiled as you sat on the desk and waited for him to hang his coat up and turn around. When he did, the anger in his face was suddenly replaced with confusion, joy, and maybe a hint of relief. “What are you doing here? You aren’t due back until next week?” You jumped off the desk and headed over to him with a big smile on your face. “I was dismissed a day after you came by, and believe me this is way better than being at home.” Eddie nodded as you started the coffee. “I’m really happy to see you again.” You smiled and looked up at him, he leaned against the wall and shook his hair to remove some of the water droplets. “Thanks, I’m happy to see you too.” The tension of the last month lifted as you both fell back into a pattern of unspoken understanding and comfort.
You and Eddie cleaned up what you could before the day started. Pete came in soon after and the day went on like normal. The noon gossip came about but most of the men were focused on you and how you were feeling. Hopper let you know that he also had to swing by when they closed the shop and his capture of Jason. Wayne smiled and motioned Eddie to join the group, but he shook his head. Focusing on the Monte Carlo that had been brought back to get more attention. Wayne shifted his focus to you. “Heard my nephew paid you a visit at the hospital.” You nodded as Wayne took a long drag from his cigarette. “I’m glad he did, kid was so freaked out you’d die.” You smiled and looked back to where Eddie was, he stood up and sighed heavily making his shoulders rise and fall. Grabbing for a socket wrench and looking back at you, his face was slightly red. “Well I’m glad he was there Wayne.” He smiled as did Wayne.
Closing for the day you gathered everything and started to walk out when Eddie placed his hand in the door before you. “I’ll take care of it tonight.” You cocked your head back at him and smirked. “Oh? You do realize I’m doing well now right?” He laughed and shook his head. “It’s not that. I wanted to get a few of these cars done before the day ended but it’s taking longer than I expected. So I asked Harry and he gave me the green light to close up after I’m done.” “Oh.” You shrugged and went to hand Eddie the keys before he fished out a set of his own and flashed them, along with his perfect smile back at you.
“Okay, please don’t mess with my desk, I don’t want to come back Monday and find more things to clean.” “Yes your highness.” He said before bowing and closing the door behind him. You started towards the car and were startled by the sound of Megadeath blaring in the back. You turned and smirked seeing a shadow of Eddie banging his head aggressively to the music. The image was enough to keep you laughing for days.
****************************************************
“Wait so you’re just friends now?” Brittany sighed into the phone, you could tell if the laws of physics would bend for her this once she’d reach through that receiver and slap you. “We’ve always been just friends Brittany. He is a good guy and I just got caught up in the notion of things.” “Stop blaming yourself, this guy was flirting hard core and didn’t expect you to respond back? Not to mention he saved your life!” “That’s not love Brittany that’s called doing the right thing. You don’t have to love someone to save them from dying.” She sighed, and started to groan about you and Eddie being idiots while you searched you bag for a bottle of Tylenol, but you felt a sheet of thick paper under your hand instead.
You unfolded it and dropped the phone on your bed. It was a large drawing of a white stallion with an image of you, your hair flowing back and holding a large sword in your hand pointing in forwards as if to scream a charging command. The detail in your face was stunning as was the detail on the horse; the muscles shaded perfectly. Beside the horse was Eddie, he dressed himself in a knights armor and held the reins in his hands looking up at you in awe, his hair flowing behind him. You traced the charcoal sketch, feeling the indentation where he pressed harder trying to focus on the shading and lines. You felt your eyes watering as you looked at it.
“Earth to F/N!” Snapping you back to the moment you laid the drawing on your dresser. “Yeah.” “Lost you for a second. Where were you?” You paused and glanced at the sketch again. “I think Eddie may have given me something.” “What was it?” “It’s a drawing, of him and me.” She cackled on the other line. “What are you guessing doing? If you feel like sharing.” You smiled, you knew where her brain went, but this image felt more intimate for some reason. Maybe because Eddie seen you not as a damsel, but as a fighter, he respected and honored you rather than view you as this pretty thing to win as a grand prize. You described the illustration to her and she groaned in disappointment. “Is he a child?” “He likes fantasy and adventure. I told you that.” “Yeah, but I’d at least think this guy would have a bit of imagination in his head.” You turned the paper over, there was a message scrawled in charcoal.
“If you are willing to join the fight, I will help you every step of the way. Next campaign, there is a spot for you. EM
P.S. I hope you like the drawing.”

*Some spoilers from the Friday the 13th franchise*
@dreamerjj
Part Six:
You woke up still in a daze from the night before. When you got home you had run to your room, your mother blissfully unaware as she was asleep on the couch, and stripped the dress off nearly tearing it from your body. You vigorously rubbed cold cream on your face to remove the contents and some of the skin hoping the memory would also be washed down the drain. Then you just laid in your bed and let the emotions begin; you thought about what a fool you must have been to show up like that, to also try and get your new friend to notice you. Every tear that fell was absorbed into the pillow as you buried your face in it to cry. You had no clue how long you cried until your body finally let you fall asleep.
Looking down at the pillow it had several spots where it was still wet; possibly from tears or drool; you didn’t care to investigate. The sun was shining, your mother was at church and tomorrow you’d have to face Eddie again. You groaned and fell back into the pillow at that’s sudden realization; one day you’re going to look back at this point in your life and see how funny it all was. Today however if a hole opened up in the earth and consumed you, that would be just fine.
Getting dressed you decided to do two things today; one was to call up Brittany back home. She would probably lift your spirits a bit and also make you feel less like an idiot. The second was to visit Aunt Jackie; if you did that first you could manage to avoid Eddie as you were certain he probably had a late night.
****************************************************
You looked around the trailer park before making the trek to Aunt Jackie’s trailer. Eddie’s van was parked in the same spot it was that fateful day, no one appeared to be in it. In fact even the trailer was silent. If you didn’t know any better you would assume Eddie and Wayne never existed and it was all a figment of your imagination. You left the car and bolted to Jackie’s porch before anyone would catch a glance at you.
“Hi!” You shouted it a little too loudly. “Hi.” You adjusted and gave her a hug. She was surprised but willing to see you again, as she ushered you inside however your heart sank. Wayne was seated at the dinette table and sipping a cup of coffee. “Hey! How’s it going there F/N!” “Fine.” You mumbled as you took a seat on the couch. Jackie brought you a cup as well before resuming her seat at the table. You sat there in silence with a million words running around your head but none escaped your lips. It occurred to you that words were being spoken, but not by yourself.
“Huh?” You shouted as Jackie and Wayne laughed. “I said, how was the show last night? Eddie said he invited you out with his friends to see them play?” “Oh yeah, it was good. Eddie sounded great.” “He ought to, he’s practically glued to that guitar. Thankfully his constant playing doesn’t drive your aunt crazy enough to call the cops on us.” “He’s a good kid. Wayne, besides his playing could be worse.” “I know it, just wish he’d play that guitar of his mom’s a bit more than that damn electric one. Hooks that up and all hell breaks loose. I’m surprised he can hear anything we all say to him.” You smiled and sipped your coffee.
“Seems he had a rough time last night though, got home later than usual.” “Oh?” Aunt Jackie chimed. “Yeah, kid stumbled into the house at four am. There I am sleeping on the couch and he falls through the front door. Drunk off his ass.” “Really?” She asked, you tried to keep your eyes and mind focused on the coffee and the magazine with Tom Selleck on the cover. “I mean I’m fine if he does get a little drunk but the fact he did that and drove home by himself in that condition!” Wayne nearly shouted before lowering his voice back down to a low whisper. “I mean, I can’t lose that kid.” She nodded and took Wayne’s hand in hers to give him reassurance.
“Wait he was alone?” Wayne nodded. “Does he usually come home alone that drunk after a show?” “Nope. I mean, he has a little but never that much. Really has me worried.” Just then you all heard the unmistakable sound of Iron Maiden blasting next door. “There he is!” “How can he listen to that with a hangover?” Jackie asked, Wayne chuckled and finished his coffee before heading back to his trailer. She stood up and took a seat beside you. “So, what brings you here dear?” “Nothing. Just wanted to see you again.”
****************************************************
“Wait what? That dress is a knockout! He didn’t even make a move after you wore that?” “Nope, the blonde had his full attention. I assume they hooked up in the bar and Eddie got shit faced before he went home.” “Jesus!” Recounting the tale and everything with Brittany did make you feel better. As she pointed out Eddie had been inviting you to these things and sending mix signals like “Rolling crit misses where he normally rolls a nat twenty” or the way he’d manage to try and get close to you. As she said “Anyone would assume he liked you, but maybe he’s just a natural flirt.”
She updated you on things from home; your old job filled in your former position the week you left and that girl quit within three days citing the hostile environment of the staff. You were relieved it wasn’t just you feeling that. Your family home is still up for sale but there is a potential buyer, some family from Detroit moving to get better work. Angela is getting engaged and you are invited to come home for her bachelorette party and wedding. Becky and her new boyfriend split so she is likewise in a bad spot herself. Other than that as Brittany said “Same old shit.”
“Seriously though F/N, do you like this Eddie guy or not?” You shrugged and fell back into your bed. “A little, I mean I guess with time like all the others I will get over it.” “That’s sucks though.” “Why?” She sighed and you could hear her crack her neck on the other end. “Because you deserve to find someone too. I mean everyone is finding people to date.” “You haven’t.” She laughed; “That’s because it’s hard to find women to date in this area.” “Still, you have potential; I don’t and I never will. Eddie is just a bit too good for me. I’m always reaching too high.” “That’s bullshit, people say you should lower your standards but they clearly don’t know your worth. This Eddie guy would be damn lucky to have you as his girlfriend and I know it.” “Thanks.” “Seriously, if he doesn’t realize what a catch you are he’s not worth your time. Who cares if he has a nice ass.” You chuckled. “You’re right. I’ll call you next weekend.” You hung up and turned on the tv when the phone rang again.
“Hello?” “Um hi… it’s Steve.” You smiled, relieved it wasn’t Eddie at least. “What’s up?” “So I’m not sure if Munson told you but this upcoming Saturday there’s a Friday the 13th marathon at the mall, only the first four, still it should be fun.” “Yeah totally, sounds like a blast.” Steve sighed and you swore you heard the guy muttering just say it. “So I was wondering if you wanted to go with me? Unless you have someone else in mind or would rather you know go alone… whatever.” You smiled, while some part of you was mad Eddie wasn’t interested; at least Steve was, plus he was nice, cute and actually making a move. “Sure Steve I’ll go with you. What time is the marathon?” You swore you could hear this guy dance on the other line. “It starts at four, we could go earlier and I could take you to a few of the stores. Including the old Ice Cream shop I worked at.” “Are you sure that won’t be triggering?” He laughed. “No, it’ll be fun. I’ll call you Friday to make sure you haven’t changed your mind.” “I won’t.” You smiled and hung up the phone, then removed it from the receiver.
****************************************************
The files for the week were bigger than the previous one; Harry had a few things he needed you to sort through before he sent them off and felt you could manage to find a few spelling errors or anything. You wanted to scream but Eddie walked in for his shift. He slowly walked past the desk and took a seat across from you.
“So you feeling better?” You nodded. “Perfect. Why?” He sighed and placed his fingers to his nose bridge and pinched it. “Just you left early the other night, I was a little worried.” “All good, I just wanted to get home.” He nodded, his face vacant of all emotions. “I tried calling yesterday, but the line was busy.” “Oh? What time did you call?” “Well, once at around one, then four, and again at like eight.” Your eyes widened, you were both scared that he was that persistent and a little touched because he really did try. But the first call was when you were talking to Brittany, and after that and the call from Steve you didn’t want to be sitting around waiting for him anymore.
“Jesus Munson!” “Well, I told you, I was worried.” He laughed, his face reddening alongside that. “You could’ve called the night before? Or earlier when I first woke up.” “Well Wayne said you were at Jackie’s so I was waiting to make sure you got home. I guess you had another call huh?” “I did.” You smiled. “Harrington?” “What?”
You looked back to Eddie, his eyes slightly teary and panicked. “Were you talking to Steve?” “Not at first, but he called after I finished talking with my friend.” “What friend? What did Steve want?” You slid the chair back and stood up to grab your coffee. “Wow! What is this a police interrogation? I have friends besides you all and I call them if I so please.” He looked at you expectantly; his hands folded in his lap. “My best friend Brittany; I called to chat. I haven’t spoken to her since the move, she was filling me in on things. None of which concern you.” “And Steve?” You laughed, “I thought you said Steve was a good guy? Why should it matter what goes on between me and Steve?” “It doesn’t, I guess. I was just curious.”
You took the seat beside Eddie and placed a hand on his back. “Sounds like it does.” He shook his head. “No, it doesn’t.” “In that case, don’t ask.” You started to sort the pile and looked up. Eddie refused to move from his spot. “What?” “Nothing, I just, you don’t seem the type to go for a guy like Harrington.” You dropped the folder and looked back at Eddie; your eyes were so wide you swore they’d fall out onto the desk and roll over to him. “What’s that supposed to mean?” “Just, I don’t know, you seem to be into less superficial things I thought.” “Maybe you shouldn’t assume those things Eddie. Besides we’ve never discussed what I’m attracted to.” He perked up and walked to the cabinet you were currently pretending to look through, wishing and pleading for someone to bring a car in to fix. “What do you like then?”
“That’s not something I feel like sharing with you.” He probed you and peaked his head into your eye-line again. “I don’t mind.” “Well I do. That’s not appropriate to discuss.” “I used to like blondes. You know the cute sexy ones that used to be cheerleaders or something.” You felt like vomiting on the floor, this was not how you wanted the day to go. “I dated this girl Chrissy a couple years ago; we were dating for a while but she found someone else who I guess made her happier. She’s married now. Expecting twins too.” “And?” “Well after she and I broke up I began to just date a little more selectively. I like someone who’s into me you know?” You rolled your eyes grabbing a file that you were sure was dated from the sixties but it made your time there look like it was on purpose. “You don’t say.”
Eddie jumped onto the desk and peered over the folders to you. “So basically blondes are great but I don’t exactly seek them out, especially when I have someone else in mind that I like.” “Well I’m glad you can maintain your self when dating these days Eddie. Now can I please get back to my work?” He shook his head. “Nuh uh. Not until you can tell me one thing you find attractive in someone?” “If I say something will you leave?” He nodded and looked at you with those big brown eyes like a puppy begging for a little attention. “I like guys who actually can say they want me. Not dance around and make me feel like an idiot. I’ve had issues with that before. Steve just called me to say he liked me and wanted to go out.”
Eddie got up from the table; he shoved his hands in his pockets. His eyes glared back, anger and bewilderment filled his face. “You two are going on a date?” You nodded, eyes focused on the file; you were amazed Harry had something on a car that was bought in nineteen forty five. “When?” “Saturday. Friday the 13th marathon. He asked and I accepted.” “Oh.” Eddie sat back in the seat across from you. “I’ll be there. I mean, I’ll be at the movies with the gang, so that’s cool.” You nodded again, whoever Clive Burchman was, he had all your attention instead of Eddie. “Yeah, we can talk more about this later Eddie. I really need to finish these and Harry has me doing loads of work all week. But let me know if you need anything?” He nodded and headed over to his workbench in the back of the garage, you peeked out the corner of your eye, Eddie never took his away from you.
****************************************************
The rest of the week you two pretty much kept your distance; Eddie would say hi and you’d say hi back. He’d thank you for making the coffee and head out. You counted down the days until you arrived to Friday; the men in town again gathered in to share in the weekly gossip. Wayne sat by his nephew to chat while you finished the last call.
“Alright, Harry what do we need today?” Harry perched his head over Hopper’s tall hat and body; Harry was so short he needed a pile of boxes to be seen. “Just some more coffee filters, copy paper, whatever else you noticed is missing!” “Sounds good!” “Why don’t you take Munson today; he’s not doing much now. Besides I’m sure he could use the break from all of us.” “I can stay here Harry, it’s not an issue.” “Yeah.” You shouted coldly, though you did try to make it seem kind; no matter what your true feelings could never be hidden. “Nonsense, it’s a slow day and I’m sure you two can find more to talk about with each other than us old geezers!” Harry shouted as Wayne slapped Eddie on the back to urge him out. You rolled your eyes as did Eddie and the two of you got in your car to head into the store.
The first couple of blocks you both remained silent, your radio was off and you were watching the street for the kids who were trying to ride their bikes. “You realize they’re probably talking about us.” “Yes I do, sadly. Though I don’t think there’s anything to talk about.” Eddie shifted in the seat, adjusting his coveralls. “Yeah, rather dull subject I guess.” You made the turn into the store and turned the engine off. “Alright, I guess I’ll get the office supplies if you grab the other things like coffee filters and the creamer.” “Why?” You sighed and glared at him. “Look the sooner we get this done, the sooner we get back to the garage and they can stop their secret discussion.” Eddie nodded and joined you inside.
You managed to snag the last box of paper clips and post its. Eddie grabbed the other things and you both cashed out without issue. The cashier stared at you both, seemingly noting the tension. We she banged your stuff up you each made your way to the door and jumped in the car. Eddie quickly turned your radio on to the local rock station. “Seriously?” “Hey, you don’t want to talk, and I can’t stand uncomfortable silences, or pop music.” You groaned as the newest song from Van Halen played. “Fucking hell!” Eddie screamed. “This isn’t rock anymore! I swear ever since Hagar joined the group they sound totally different.” You sighed; Eddie turned the dial trying to find something else, but in the end he turned the radio off again.
“Wasn’t David fighting all the time with Eddie?” “He was. But sometimes that’s the way it goes right?” You sighed and glanced over at Eddie. “Well, maybe for those two, the issue wasn’t something they could just move past; or one of them couldn’t. Besides that; the song you just heard? Eddie wrote that, he wanted to change the style not David. Maybe Sammy Hagar is more willing to work with the band as a whole and let the music evolve as Eddie evolves?” He sighed and tapped his fingers on the window. “I guess I never thought of it that way.” You pulled back to your spot and got out with the groceries and the men all stopped laughing. “Boys, I need to find you someone else to discuss.” “We weren’t talking about you.” Wayne said, you looked over the bag in your arms at the man and gave him a smile. “Promise?” He nodded, “Absolutely, we only say nice things about you anyway.” “Maybe I should stick around then? I could use the ego boost.” They all chuckled as you went back to your work and Eddie started to adjust the tires on the Monte Carlo in the garage.
****************************************************
Steve called Friday night to confirm the details. You were heading to the mall at noon and he wanted to stop by a few stores. He also said he’d take you to get some pizza before the movies started. Your mom was more than thrilled you were going to be seeing a movie with Steve Harrington. “Make sure you look nice, he’s a decent man. Not like that trailer trash guy you were with last week.” “Mom, stop okay. Besides I wasn’t dating Eddie and just because someone lives in a trailer doesn’t give you the right to mock them. Your sister lives in a trailer!” She nodded sat back on your bed as you finished getting ready.
“I know, but I never liked the looks of that one. Steve is a good guy. Clean cut, good family, nice hair, and he works a decent job.” You scoffed, you actually made more than Steve did. “Mom he’s an employee at Family Video, and part time too.” “Still better than Eddie working on cars all day!” “Eddie earns more than Steve does, he just doesn’t get to showcase his earnings because he’s helping Wayne.” She rolled her eyes. “Or he’s paying for drugs. I’ve heard stories. Boy used to sell weed to kids. That’s how he met his last girlfriend! He gave her drugs, she got high, thought he was a catch and then she left him.”
You put on a pair of jean shorts and a red top, nothing flashy but still the cut of the dress was low enough to showcase your cleavage in a tasteful way. “I wish you’d stop talking about Eddie that way mom. The guy has been through enough. Just leave him alone.” She sighed before heading to your door. “Fine, but it sounds like you care more for him than the guy you’re going to the movies with.” With that she slammed the door and caused you to flinch. You finished putting on your makeup and tied your hair back into a ponytail.
“Wow, you look nice!” Steve said when he arrived at the food court, he was a few minutes late and towing behind him was Robin. “Sorry about the delay, someone forgot to check the cash drawer before we left and I had to clear the mess up!” “Listen, I know I looked at it.” “Looked but didn’t sign the ticket and almost got fired!” You giggled as Robin looped her arm through yours as she dragged you to the Orange Julius stand.
“Okay, spill it!” “Spill what?” You looked over her shoulder at Steve who threw his arms up in defeat and headed to the Papa John’s stand. “What? How about why are you here with Steve when last weekend you were totally into Eddie!” “Shhhh! People are going to get the wrong idea here.” She folded her arms and popped her hip out. “I demand an answer.” You sighed and pulled her over to hide yourselves behind the plant. “Listen, Eddie doesn’t like me, he’s into blonde cheerleading type girls which is not me. Steve showed interest and called; Eddie didn’t. I’m taking that as a sign Eddie isn’t interested.” Robin groaned. “But he is interested, and so are you. Don’t lead Steve on for revenge; you do that and we’ll all be upset. Then I’m going to have to play therapist to that man and the whole group will hate Eddie and you!” “Don’t worry, if this doesn’t go well I won’t date Steve. As for Eddie, I’m cool.”
As you said that as if summoning a demon from hell Eddie’s tall lanky frame rose from the escalator. He wore a muscle shirt that he most likely made himself from an old t-shirt that was falling apart. His jeans were ripped along his thighs and he had his hair tied into a ponytail. He had his leather jacket flung over his shoulder and walked over to the table where Steve had just placed the pizza on before taking a slice for himself. “Dude! That’s mine and F/N’s!” Eddie winced. “Sorry, I’ll get you another one for her…” “Don’t worry about it Munson.” You said before taking the seat between him and Steve. “I’ll get my own.” “He should buy it. Or maybe I don’t know, buy his own!” Steve shouted as Eddie licked the excess sauce off his fingers and making an exaggerated pop with each one. “Delicious.” “God you’re just the picture of etiquette.” You mumbled before getting up to buy yourself a new pizza.
“I’ll pay.” Eddie chimed behind you. “Munson, I’ll pay for my own lunch. You pay for yours.” He nodded, you felt him bouncing on his toes behind you as you both waited for the clerk to finish. “You look nice today.” “I should, I’m on a date.” Eddie sighed. “I know, Steve’s a lucky guy. If he does anything stupid please let me know.” “I can handle Steve.” Eddie was about to make a funny quip but as he opened his mouth the cashier called you over and you made your order.
Steve was getting some new summer clothes while you all waited for the rest of the group to arrive. Slowly they filed in; Mike, Nancy, Will, Jonathan and mikes girlfriend Jane. Then Dustin, Lucas and his girlfriend Max came in shortly afterwards. The last to arrive was Vicki who you found out was Robin’s girlfriend. Once Steve finished getting his stuff you all made your way to the concession stand to load up. “What would you like?” Steve asked. “You sure you have the money now?” You looked at his bags, seven in total and all at the best stores, no way did he have more than a hundred dollars left. “Sure, I can get you some food.” “That’s okay. I’ll get mine and yours.” “Absolutely not, I’ll pay for the date!” You smiled and blushed, Steve mirrored that expression back to you. “Okay, I’ll take a medium popcorn with extra butter, a medium coke, and M&M’s.” “Can do.” Steve left and Eddie followed behind him, nudging his shoulder as they whispered to each other.
“So how awkward has it been?” Dustin asked. “Extremely!” Robin commented back, they both glared at you. “Guys it’s not weird. You’re making it seem weird but it’s not.” “Uh huh. So Eddie is fine with you and Steve?” Dustin asked as he took a sip from his drink. “Seems to be. If he has an issue he can say it to me. But he knows I’m here with Steve and that I’m happy someone was willing to ask me out.” Dustin and Robin grimaced. “It’s fine and I am having fun.” Robin peered over your shoulder to focus on the two men who as they paid and came back with the snacks. “Alright!” Eddie cheered. “Who’s ready for boobs and blood!” You rolled your eyes and headed to the theater.
Steve took a seat beside Dustin on his left and you on his right. Eddie took the other seat next to you. If things weren’t weird before you refused to let them get weird now. Steve handed you your snacks and smiled. “Remember, if it’s scary…” he gestured to his shoulder. “It’s right there.” “Something tells me, you invited me in the hopes I’d get scared and horny?” Steve smirked and raised his eyebrows. “Maybe, if you feel either emotion, I’m right here.” “I think I’ll pass on that second option for now.” “Okay.” Just then the movie started.
You sat back as the first camp counselors were slaughtered and the new ones were coming in to get theirs. When the third death occurred Eddie leaned over to your ear. “Seriously Savini is a genius right?” You nodded, and leaned over to him. “You know he took inspiration from what he seen in the Vietnam war?” Eddie nodded and a couple behind you began to shush you both. The sex scene caused Steve to reach his hand over and rest it in your armrest, you playfully nudged it back. Soon after when poor Kevin Bacon got his Eddie leaned back again. “I guess the guy couldn’t dance his way out of that situation.” You snickered as the shushing occurred again, you slapped Eddie’s arm and munched on your popcorn.
When the final shot of the film started you began to sink into your seat, you knew the movie inside and out but could never avoid jumping at the end. When little Jason jumped from the water to snatch the last counselor you felt your body jolt and reach out for safety; unfortunately you reached out for Eddie. You turned and looked at him, he looked back. His hand held yours and softly he caressed your palm, his fingers tracing delicate circles into your hand, like an invisible tattoo. You pulled back and shoved the hand into the popcorn bucket. “Doing okay?” Steve asked. “Yep.” You shoved a handful of popcorn into your mouth and looked back to Eddie, his eyes still on you and pleading for you to come back to his side.
You finished the film and the next one started which was easier to watch; until the machete to the face where you again felt your body jump and reach for Eddie. He let go of your hand and almost tossed it back to you. That was the last scare you had all night and you allowed yourself to lean more on Steve even though, you weren’t feeling anything. Not fear, not excitement, you felt empty. When you thought of how you felt when you reached out to Eddie and how electric that touch of his was, it made you realize you were still aching for him.
The movies ended and everyone stood up to stretch it out before making their way back outside. Nancy and Jonathan took Mike, Will and Jane home biding their farewells and hugging each other before commenting how the next outing should be a little less graphic. Lucas and Dustin grabbed Max and headed to the arcade screaming something about beating her pac man score. Robin and Vicki left too leaving just Eddie Steve and yourself. I should probably get going.” Eddie remarked before waving to Steve and giving you a nod. “See you Monday I guess F/N?” You nodded before wrapping your arm under Steve’s.
“This was fun.” You remarked as Steve walked you back to the car, “I had a great time, though I admit I wasn’t as scared as I made out to be.” “I know.” Steve sighed before leaning on your hood. “I’m pretty seasoned on these movies so, yeah I guess I should have been more upfront about that.” “Among other things.” He tapped his fingers on the car and leaned back to look at the stars. “What?” “C’mon F/N. I know when a girl is genuinely having a good time and when she’s not. From the start this was a bad date.” You sat beside him and stuffed your hands into your shirt pockets. “No it wasn’t.” “I couldn’t even afford to get you the snacks, Munson had to pay for that. Then I know you jumped but I guess you don’t feel comfortable with me so Munson got that too.” “Steve it’s not like that.”
He looked back at you and smiled softly, his eyes glistened with tears and the expression was forced. “It’s okay. I hope one day Eddie realizes what he’s missing. I’m jealous of the guy actually, he’s got this great girl who wants him. But also I’m pissed because he’s too damn stupid to see that.” You huffed and let your body slide down the car a bit. “You won’t tell him will you? Or anyone else?” Steve shook his head. “Not my place to tell. But will you?” You shook your head and trilled your lips. “Nope, I’m sure I’ll get over him. I just need to distance myself from his life.” “Well you’re kind of screwed seeing as you work together.” You laughed and gave Steve a hug before getting into the car to head home. Boy mom is sure going to be mad about this night.

Spring, 1994
There was a sort of comfort to be found in the smells and sounds of your office that Friday afternoon. The earthy scent of your third cup of coffee wafted over you as you carried it back to your desk amidst the clicking and clacking of fingers on keyboards. Only about three more hours remained of the workday, and you could feel everyone’s anticipation in the air already.
You waited until you were settled back in your desk chair to take your first sip; you gently blew away the curling steam, touched the rim of your mug to a lipsticked lip, and-
Brrrrrrrriiiiingggg!
Sighing dejectedly, you set the coffee down on your desk before picking up the phone and parroting the standard company greeting into the microphone.
“Hey, it’s uh.. Eddie.”
You blinked. “Hi.” you paused, then when he didn’t say anything, added, “Why are you calling me at work?”
“Well, you left your work number on a post-it, so I figured it would be okay to call…”
You rolled your eyes. “Yes, if there’s an emergency. Is this an emergency, Eddie?”
“Eh…kinda?” you hadn’t noticed at first, but now you were starting to register some kind of noise on his end that sounded like arguing voices.
“Who’s there with you?”
“Did you invite your old roommate to come over this weekend?”
You slapped your palm to your forehead when it dawned on you that you hadn’t even thought to ask Eddie if he minded Kate coming over this weekend. Even worse, she’d called yesterday mentioning that she had some business near your apartment today so you’d told her to come over when her business was finished and just start her weekend with you a day early.
“Crap, Eddie I’m so sorry, I completely forgot to ask if you’d mind Kate staying there tonight-”
“No need to apologize,” Eddie cut you off, “because it seems I’ve made a similar mistake.”
Now you could definitely make out Kate’s voice in the background, and she was arguing with someone whose ability to match her fiery tone was surprising and honestly a little impressive, knowing Kate.
“Do you remember Gareth Emerson? From Hawkins?”
You nodded, remembering the freckled, curly-topped bracefaced kid who’d idolized Eddie since the first time he’d sat with your group at the Hellfire table at lunch. “Yeah, he was that freshman with the curly hair, right?”
“Yep, still curly and still an ornery shit. I invited him to come up and see the place for the weekend, and I also forgot to check with you to make sure it would be okay, so sorry about that-”
Eddie was cut off by a particularly loud outburst from Kate- you caught the words entitled and child somewhere in there.
“He wasn’t supposed to get here until tomorrow but he got bored and headed up early without telling me!” Eddie emphasized the last three words loud enough so Gareth could hear them loud and clear, and you heard Gareth’s fuzzy response in the background say ‘Good to see you too, asshole!’
“Yeah, so long story short, now they’re both here and they’re arguing over the couch.”
“Hand Kate the phone, please.” You sighed. Within a moment, you heard your friend’s disgruntled voice huffing through the speaker.
“Okay, Tattoo Guy I don’t mind. His friend is an asscrack with a lip ring and I do not like him.”
Both men must have been standing nearby, because you heard faint responses from both of them through the receiver. A bewildered ‘Tattoo Guy?’ from Eddie, and a snarky ‘Feeling’s mutual, princess.’ from Gareth.
“Sorry for the mixup,” You said calmly, “it seems we both invited a friend to stay over tonight and forgot to tell each other.” You kept your voice even and quiet. Kate was usually pretty level-headed, but difficult to reason with when she got riled up. Calming her down was priority number one. “You can just sleep with me in my room, it doesn’t have to be a big deal-”
“But he’s so annoying-”
“-And this way, you and I get our own space where he’s not allowed!” you cut her off with blazing positivity, which usually worked wonders. Unsurprisingly, her response sounded significantly less venomous.
“...You have a point.” She gave you another one of those pauses where you can tell she’s about so say something else.
“But…?” you supplied.
“‘But’ nothing, you have a point, that’s it.”
You smiled wryly, “So you don’t feel like you’re losing some kind of competition right now?”
“Of course I feel like I’m losing a competition right now, he’s grinning at me like a smug little shit.” You heard a musical cackle as she said that, followed by a loud Ow! and an abrupt end to the cackling.
You snorted. “Try not to kill each other until I get home, ‘kay?”
“Fine.” Kate replied, and if you didn’t know better, you might have thought you heard a smile in her voice as she bade you goodbye before hanging up the phone.
When you finally made it home, you were surprised to be greeted by the fragrant scent of tomatoes and fresh herbs wafting over you.
“What’s going on in here?” you asked, turning the corner into the small kitchen. Eddie stood in front of the stove, stirring what looked like tomato sauce in a large saucepan that you’d all but forgotten you owned.
“Well, when I realized there would be four mouths to feed tonight, I decided I’d make a little grocery run.” He peered over at a large pot of cloudy, boiling water and grabbed a slotted ladle to fish out a single piece of spaghetti from the water and test it. “Hope you’re in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs, should be ready in a few minutes.”
You took in the state of your kitchen- the plethora of pots and pans, the array of ingredients and empty cans of crushed tomatoes scattered across every surface the eye could see. You never made this much of a mess when you were baking; years of cakes and muffins and chocolate chip cookies had taught you to clean as you went, leaving the kitchen spotless by the time that the goods came out of the oven. Eddie, obviously, hadn’t learned the same lesson.
You sighed, rolling your eyes and shaking your head slightly. “And you were going to clean all of this up yourself, I’m guessing? Or did you expect us to do it?”
“I hope these meatballs are good, they’re the only vegetarian option I could find.” Eddie shook his head as he cooked, glancing at you as you stood behind him completely stunned. When you didn’t answer, he arched an eyebrow.
“What, is this brand bad? Damn it, I knew I shouldn’t have trusted that cashier; he said he’d tried it but that kid just looked like he was lying-”
“No, I’ve tried those, they’re good.” you reassured, quiet now and still unsure of what to do with this new information. Eddie remembered you were a vegetarian. After years of not speaking, he’d remembered this detail and accommodated for you- that was more than your own extended family did, sometimes. More than your coworkers with whom you’d worked for years bothered to remember.
But here was Eddie Munson, cooking everyone meatless meatballs just so you weren’t left out.
“Try this, tell me if it needs more salt.” Eddie said, scooping a sip of cherry-red tomato sauce into a serving spoon and bringing it to you with a protective hand hovering underneath, completely ignoring your question.
And there was something strange about the way you felt in that moment when, after all these years, you were standing in a tiny New York apartment with Eddie Munson and his wide, hopeful brown eyes, and he was holding a spoon to your lips and asking if his pasta sauce needed more salt. What option did you have, other than to open your lips for him, taste the pasta, smile, and tell him that it was perfect? What other choice was there, really?
Eddie smiled, eagerly sipping the rest himself. “You’re sure? You don’t think I overdid the garlic?”
“Not at all,” you reassured him, picking up the tomato sauce cans and rinsing them out in the sink before tossing them in the recycle bin. “I don’t think anyone in this place will mind if you put a little extra garlic in something.”
Eddie grabbed a strainer full of cooked spaghetti and began to pour it into the pot of sauce. “You sure? Kate’s not a vampire or something?”
“Well, she’s never told me she’s not a vampire.” you shrugged, “So I guess we’ll find out for sure when she eats the pasta.”
You went to grab the strainer once its carby contents had been emptied from it, but Eddie beat you to it. “Hey, I really was going to clean afterwards,” he said meekly. “You can go sit down, I’ve got this.”
You leveled your gaze at him, gently taking the strainer from his hands. “I’ve been sitting down all day. Besides, you’re cooking dinner for everyone, the rest of us can handle cleanup.”
All of the frustration that had begun bubbling in your gut at the sight of his mess was gone now. How did he always do this? Make you forget his transgressions, his flaws… with puppy dog eyes? In an instant? You needed to toughen up.
“So where are-”
“-the children?” Eddie finished. “Sequestered in our rooms. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone match Gareth’s capacity for bickering within the first minute of meeting him, but there’s a first time for everything.”
You winced. “Kate can be… headstrong.”
“So can Gare.” Eddie grinned. “I’m glad he’s met his match. Maybe she’ll humble him.”
You found the match in question sitting cross-legged on the floor flipping through a magazine you’d left on your bedspread that morning. Upon seeing you, she huffed and pouted as she stood to wrap you in a hug.
“The Southern Living subscription still has both our names on it!”
You patted her back as she whined into your shoulder. “I know sweetie.”
“But we aren’t roommates anymore, and next time I come over I’m going to find an issue of one of these and it’ll just be your name!”
“You moved across town.” you stated calmly, sinking to her level on the soft woven area rug. “We didn’t break up. I’m not going to boot you off the Southern Living subscription, I promise.”
Kate looked up at you then, eyes wide but smiling now. “You promise?”
You chuckled, tackling Kate in a hug before gently prying the Southern Living from her anxious grip. “You are so dramatic. Yes, I promise. Now give me this so I can put it in your bag.”
The two of you emerged from your room then (after some serious coaxing on your end) and were greeted by the sight of a gangly, pierced, curly-topped man draped across the expanse of your corduroy couch.
Upon seeing Kate’s glare over your shoulder, the man leveled his gaze and smirked as he sort of shimmied himself deeper into the couch’s cushions.
“Mmmm, cozy. I’m gonna sleep so good on this thing-”
“So well, you mean?” Kate practically barked back. “Or did you flunk your fourth grade grammar lessons?”
The man’s- whom you could only assume was Gareth Emerson- expression soured as he muttered to himself, “What is it with everyone correcting my grammar lately?” before refocusing on you and doing his best to appear civil and polite. “You’re the roommate?”
You nodded in confirmation. “I’m the roommate.”
He grinned, reaching out his hand which you accepted with a friendly shake. “I’m Gareth. It’s nice to meet you.”
“We’ve met before, actually.” you amended, “I was a senior when you were a freshman.”
“So I’ve been told. Don’t remember much other than the year-long rain cloud Eddie had over his head after you graduated-”
“Dude!”
Eddie’s voice sliced through the conversation, whipping your attention around to face him over the short breakfast bar. His eyes were wide, and he was frozen in place as his gaze darted from Gareth to you.
The two of you hadn’t spoken about the elephant in the room since Eddie moved in. Not a word about the friendship you’d shared or the more that it could’ve been or its abrupt ending ten years ago- now, Gareth had revealed something about the aftermath of that relationship that you hadn’t known: when you’d left, Eddie had changed.
You didn’t know how, and you weren’t sure exactly why- but he’d been different after you’d moved away. Vanity told you it was because of you, that he’d been riddled with guilt after the way he’d ended things, but you knew it could be all manner of things that might have caused him to change.
Either way, you couldn’t help but think that this must have been how Eddie had felt when he walked through your door to take in your apartment and the life it held. This piece, this crumb of Eddie’s life after you’d stepped out of it? You wanted more and you wanted it now.
But the way Eddie was watching you- like he was watching a flame slowly consume a precious thing and he could do nothing but stand by and watch- sent a pang of sympathy through you. That pang was followed by a rush of fury at your heart for having the audacity to feel sympathetic to the man who’d made you feel so hurt, so crazy, so toyed with all those years ago. He should be terrified. You should make him squirm. Let him marinate in the truth he built for himself, if only for a second.
But you didn’t.
“Is dinner ready?” You asked, turning on your heel and making your way toward the kitchen. You heard a muttered “What did I say?” behind you, followed by a whump! And an “Ow!”
“Yeah,” Eddie answered, sighing through the word with relief at your subject change. “Grab a bowl.”
Dinner was surprisingly comfortable, once everyone agreed to the unspoken oath that they would not bring up anything prior to 1984. Or immediately after it. Everyone stuck to casual topics- tv shows, Kate’s new apartment, work- and the energy in the room remained altogether pleasant.
Later in the evening, everyone had retired to their respective sleeping arrangements, and you and Kate were lying side by side in your bed in the almost-darkness. The small television was your only light as the sounds of The Princess Bride played just loud enough to mask your conversation.
“So you two haven’t talked yet?”
“We talk,” you replied, shrugging slightly. “We talked all throughout dinner, you were there.”
Kate rolled her eyes. “You know that’s not what I mean.”
You sighed, flopping from your side onto your back to stare at the ceiling. “I know.”
Kate mimicked your movement, moving into a perfect reflection of you as she joined you in gazing at the white popcorned drywall. “You know you’re going to have to talk about everything eventually.”
“I know.”
“So why not just rip off the bandaid?”
You jerked your head to the side, giving her a sidelong glance. “You wanna rip it off for me?”
Kate smiled sympathetically. “Babe, you know I would if I could but there are only two people in this world who are qualified to do so in this specific situation and I am not one of them.”
You gave her a half smile, hoping it didn’t look as much like a wince as it felt. “I just…” you started, struggling to get your thoughts into a straight line. This whole situation was so… tangled. “...I don’t think I should have to be the one to bring it up. He’s the one who ruined everything. To rub his nose in it like a dog…” You paused, cringing at the mental image. “I shouldn’t have to. He’s a grown-ass man, he can apologize to me first and then we’ll talk it out. But no, I’m not bringing it up first.”
You felt Kate’s hand find yours and give it a reassuring squeeze. “Aye aye, captain.” She whispered.
“Alright! Agenda for today-”
Kate’s all-business tone called the attention of everyone in the apartment. Each of you was still pajama-clad, having taken up a spot on either a couch or a chair at the kitchen table. The sweet smell of sugar and cinnamon still wafted through the air from the cinnamon rolls you’d baked fresh the moment you’d woken up.
“First,” Kate continued, “we hit the farmers’ market at Union Square. Next-”
“-We stop at The Ink Shop.” Eddie interjected, speaking around a rather large bite of cinnamon roll. “Guy in charge called yesterday and told me to stop in this weekend if I could.”
You twisted around from your spot at the table to look at him, “Wait, does that mean you’ve got the job?”
Eddie swallowed, eyes wide as his throat struggled against too much going down too quickly, but by the grin on that man’s face, no one could tell. You not only sounded like you didn’t hate his guts, but you actually sounded excited for him- he was on cloud nine, this was progress. “That’s what I’m hoping! The guy on the phone didn’t guarantee anything, but I’m optimistic.”
“Eddie, that's awesome! They’d be idiots to turn you down.”
And just like that, Eddie was sitting in your dad’s little wooden shed in the backyard again. Just like that, he was being shaken to his core by a girl who looked at him and saw someone who was worth believing in. Someone who was worth a chance.
…Which you’d given to him. And he’d blown.
His heart sank to his stomach as quickly as it’d begun to soar. Eddie hoped it wasn’t evident on his face how much your faith in him- however casual or miniscule it might be- made him feel as if gravity were something that didn’t apply to him.
Eddie cleared his throat before flashing you a small, humble smile. “Thanks. For the sake of the rent, I’m hoping they aren’t idiots.”
Neither of you noticed, but throughout that entire exchange Kate’s eyes were darting back and forth between the two of you like a tennis ball at Wimbledon. Now, you were both silently smiling at each other, the silence perfumed by sweet, sticky cinnamon in the small apartment.
“...Okaaayy, so we stop at The Ink Shop after dropping groceries off here.” Kate purred, quirking a knowing grin at the way the two of you looked down at your plates after realizing how long you’d been staring. “Anyone have any lunch ideas, or are we winging it?”
“There’s an Indian place by The Ink Shop,” Eddie suggested, getting up from his spot on the couch to bring his empty plate to the kitchen and rinse it. He continued over the soft streaming of the faucet, “I tried it the other day and I haven’t stopped thinking about their garlic naan.”
Gareth made a sound not far from a moan, slumping against the couch cushions as he continued to chew his cinnamon roll. “Ohmyguhd, Ndian fuhd shounsh sho guhd!”
Kate raised an eyebrow. “You aren’t even finished with breakfast, and you’re already moaning about lunch?”
Gareth’s loud gulp as he swallowed his food was punctuated by a defensive scoff. “Excuse you, Indian food is always worth moaning about. The current status of my appetite makes no difference.”
Kate looked ready to spit a comeback at him, but for some reason she came up empty. After a few seconds of silence while she stared at him looking partially frustrated and partially amused, she changed the subject.
“Alright, well if everyone is cool with Indian food then we’ll stop there after Eddie’s job interview.”
“It isn’t a job interview-” Eddie protested, but Kate quickly waved a hand as if his protests were annoying little flies.
“Fine, after Eddie’s casual check in with the boss of the place he’d like to work at, we’ll all get Indian food.” She grinned at you, “Sounds like we’ve got a plan!”
Your Saturday outing as a foursome proved fruitful and- surprisingly- not very awkward, given that your party was comprised of two estranged high school friends and two newly-enemies.
You had assumed that it would only be a matter of time before you all split into gendered groups- you and Kate would go one way, and the ink-riddled, curly-topped duo would go the other. The opposite, however, turned out to be true.
“I’m getting a breakfast burrito.” Gareth had announced about ten minutes into your foray into the market. “I saw a guy selling them back by the entrance, I’ll go get one and find you guys later.”
Kate rolled her eyes at Gareth, arms crossed over her chest. You didn’t miss the way Gareth’s eyes darted down to her cleavage when she did so- you wondered if Kate caught that, too.
“No,” she sighed, “you are not. This place is chaos for someone who’s been here before, much less someone who hasn’t. You’re going to get lost and then we’ll spend an hour just looking for you.”
Gareth snorted, crossing his arms to match her tit for tat (pun intended). “Wow, you really think so little of me? I’m a grown ass man.”
Kate scoffed, “Hah! You’re hardly grown-”
“So just an ass man then? You know I used to think that too, but now-” Gareth wasn’t being shy about his line of sight now as he allowed his pointed gaze to zero in on the generous V of Kate’s neckline. “-now I’m not so sure.”
Kate’s face was one of absolute shock. Before she could say anything, however, Gareth simply smiled and began to march in the direction of where (he thought) the breakfast burritos were. Kate followed close behind, already rattling off the laundry list of adjectives she would use to describe him- none of them good.
That left you and Eddie.
The two of you had learned how to be silent with each other over the few days that you’d been rooming together. Where the quiet pauses between your conversations had originally been unbearably awkward, they were now simply one step behind comfortable. The fact that the two of you were getting used to being quiet around each other, however… that in itself was strange enough. Even before, all those years ago in what felt like another life, there was always some kind of noise. Whether it be the constant shrill of an electric guitar or Eddie’s incessant yapping (which had been your favorite sound, once upon a time), there was always something to fill your ears.
That was why things felt somewhat normal now- the market was buzzing with countless sounds, sights and smells. When you dared to sneak a glance at Eddie out of the corner of your eye, you saw how his gaze was darting from booth to booth, eagerly taking in every sight this place had to offer.
You broke the silence first. “Anything look good?”
Eddie chuckled, eyes flicking to you for a half-second before resuming their dragonfly pace. “Oh that isn’t the issue. I’ve never seen so much produce in my life. Only problem is that I don’t have a job yet and I want to buy all of it.”
“Nah, that job is yours.” you reassured him, noncommittally perusing the offerings of a nearby vegetable stand. “Like I said, they’d be idiots to turn you down.”
Eddie shook his head. “As flattering as that is, you haven’t really seen any of my professional work.”
“Has it improved since high school?” you countered.
“Hope so.” Eddie shrugged.
You smiled. “Then it’s gone from good to great.”
You could’ve sworn he blushed then.
That now-familiar, comfortable quiet settled between the two of you as your attention fell to the variety of vegetables before you. Your eyes fluidly swept over all the offerings on the stand until snagging on one carrot in particular; a shorter, thick carrot that had split off into two at the base, though the second carrot had broken off close to the leafy top. On the other side, the base had grown a strangely spherical lump. Altogether the strange looking carrot was left with two bulbous parts on either side with the actual vegetable stretching proudly in a long rod from base to tip.
It kind of looked like a…
You snorted, and to your surprise Eddie did the exact same thing right next to you. You glanced at him, and found his eyes laughing just as much as yours. His eyes darted from you, to the carrot, and back before bursting into raucous laughter, which you joined instantly.
His laugh had always been contagious, and you had always been susceptible.
The two of you carried on laughing until you realized that the owner of the vegetable stand was staring at the two of you with a confused, borderline offended look on her face.
“Sorry!” you said, waving apologetically even though you were still laughing. “We… I mean, he said something really funny! Your vegetables are great, you have, um, great stuff! Really good stuff!”
All the while, Eddie continued laughing his ass off, his mirth obviously escalating with every defensive word out of your mouth. You grabbed him by the arm and tugged him past the vegetable stand, the two of you struggling to overcome your fits of giggles.
“My God, are we children?” You asked no one in particular, covering your face with your hands. “That was so dumb, it was only a carrot-” but then, you were laughing again, along with Eddie.
He looked at you, doubled over and laughing hysterically at a phallic-shaped root vegetable, and realized it was the first time in ten years that he’d seen you laugh the way you used to- unbridled joy, running wild and free and dancing in the air like bells on the wind.
He’d forgotten that laugh. It was like Christmas.
Eddie cleared his throat, sighing through the downswing of his laughing fit. “Yeah, my art may have matured, but my sense of humor sure hasn’t.”
You wheezed, composing yourself. “You’re forgiven.” You replied, smirking as you continued to walk through the aisle of vendors.
“I’m forgiven?” Eddie scoffed, trotting after to catch up to you. “You were right there laughing at it with me!”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m the picture of maturity.”
“Yeah? Picture the carrot cock again.”
You snorted. “Carrot cock?” you laughed, a cackle threatening to break free.
“Hah!” Eddie wagged a finger in your face, that devious smile you remember so well stretching across his face. It did something to you, something painful or beautiful or both. “There it is! You’re just as mature as I am.”
Walking alongside each other like this- the ease with which the banter came, the impulse to nudge his shoulder with your own and flash him a smile from days long gone. You weren’t sure that smile would even fit anymore.
This easiness… you weren’t sure you liked it. He didn’t deserve easy.
Eddie knew it, too. This tentative comfort between the two of you right now was like some kind of delicate, winged creature- something to be protected. Something that could be crushed in an instant, and he was so scared to overstep or or scare you back behind the wall you’d put up between you two.
He opened his mouth and took a breath, unsure of what he should say. “I’m sorry” or “this is nice” felt too close to the uncanny valley between the present and the past.
Before Eddie could even settle on something to say, you beat him to the punch.
“We should probably find Kate before she strangles Gareth.”
Your gaze was long gone. In fact, he was pretty sure you were making a point of avoiding him. Eyes trained determinedly forward, you marched back in the direction you’d both come from.
“Sounds good.” Eddie complied, following you as he contemplated which felt worse- his relief at your departure from the fragile uncertainty on which that ease between you had balanced, or his disappointment that- once again- he was forgetting what your laugh sounded like.
“Would you stop that?”
Kate’s voice was pure loathing as she narrowed her eyes on Gareth’s lighter, which he’d been flicking on and off and on again for the past ten minutes. The three of you had been waiting outside the tattoo shop for far longer than the “sec” that Eddie had said he would be in there, and you were starting to worry that you’d have to play referee between these two if you had to wait much longer.
Gareth swivelled his head to the side, arching a brow at Kate before a grin stretched across his mouth. His lips parted to reply just before the door swung open, revealing a giddy Eddie smiling ear to ear.
“I got the spot!” he exclaimed. “I have to do walk-ins on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I get to set my own schedule and the shop minimum is eighty dollars. Eighty fucking dollars, dude! Back in Chicago I was lucky if I made that in a day!”
“Dude, that’s awesome!” Gareth cheered, clapping Eddie on the back. “Looks like you don’t suck!”
When Eddie turned to you, it was so hard- so hard- to not jump up and down the way you would have before. Instead, you settled with a small smile in his direction.
“Like I said,” you added, quietly. “they would have been idiots to turn you down.”
To celebrate Eddie’s successful job acquisition, the four of you wound up going to a favorite bar of yours that evening.
Jupiter House was the perfect place for enjoying live music, cheap drinks, and good company. The small concrete stage in the front of the narrow, neon-lit club boasted a local grunge band tonight, whom you were currently watching tune their guitars as Eddie approached with four drinks precariously balanced in his hands.
“Where’s Kate?” Eddie asked, placing the glasses gingerly on your table before hopping up to sit on the barstool adjacent to yours.
“Bathroom.” you answered, reaching for your whiskey sour. “Where’s Gareth?”
He nodded toward the bar, “Puppy found a squirrel to chase.”
You followed his gaze, finding Gareth leaning casually against the tiled bar top as he chatted up some girl with an oil-slick pixie cut and bright red lipstick.
You rolled your eyes. “Is that pretty standard bar behavior for him?” you asked. Eddie chuckled, gazing over at Gareth with a mixture of fondness and amusement in his eyes.
“The trying is pretty standard, yeah. The success rate, however…” Eddie clicked his tongue, tilting his head skeptically. “That’s a bit more hit or miss, I’m afraid.”
You laughed quietly into your drink. “Proud of him for shooting for the stars, though.” You said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
Eddie made a face at that, an eyebrow quirking upward as that tell-tale smirk began taking shape on his lips. Even after all these years, your body still reacted the same way it always has to that smirk and you cursed yourself for it.
“Did you just… quote a poster from Coach Pitman’s history classroom?”
Your eyes widened. Had you? You searched your brain for the image of the poster he was talking about, then it dawned on you.
“Oh my god,” You guffawed, hand flying up to your mouth. “I think I did!” You had used that saying casually over the years, though apparently you had completely wiped its origins from the contents of your mind.
Eddie was cackling. One hand was braced on the table, the other smacking across his forehead and into his hairline. “I remember that poster, it was all faded and peeling off the wall at the corners, god that thing must have been at least ten years old even back then-”
“And it had that picture of a basketball player in those tiny 70’s shorts!” You remembered.
Eddie immediately cringed, throwing his head back. “Gah, why did you remind me? It took me years to scrub those shorts from my mind!”
You were cackling too now- matching his every laugh, every cringe, every reminiscence in this little New York dive bar. Only now did you realize that you had both been leaning closer with each word and were both resting your elbows on this small wooden table, with nothing between you but two drinks and an ashtray.
You were the first to lean back- not so much that it would be obvious, but Eddie still noticed. He matched you this time, shifting his weight to the back of his chair as that big bright smile dimmed almost imperceptibly- but you still caught it.
Guilt washed over you as you sipped your drink- guilt for distancing yourself, guilt for feeling guilty for that, guilt for being too immature to let bygones be bygones- all of it kept your eyes from meeting his until he spoke.
“This is probably going to keep happening, you know.”
Your eyes flicked up at that, and you once again ignored the goosebumps that rushed across your skin when his black coffee gaze met yours. “What does that mean?”
“It means,” He sighed, leaning forward again, both elbows back on the table. “We were friends back then for a reason, and that reason hasn’t seemed to change.” Eddie tried to smile, but all he managed was a rueful grin that stayed contained to the corner of his mouth. “I was an idiot back then, and if you still hated me for it then I wouldn’t blame you… but I’m starting to think that you don’t.”
You weren’t smiling anymore. You weren’t even looking at him anymore, just pressing your lips into a fine line and running your thumb over the condensation on the outside of your glass, staring at the tiny drops of water as they merged into giant drops, the weight of them sending clear tracks down to the wet ring that soaked through the little square napkin below. A few more drops and that napkin will tear, you thought.
“If I’m wrong, tell me and I’ll know where I stand, but-”
“No,” you said, just loud enough to be heard above the din of the crowded bar. “I don’t hate you.” You chanced a look up at Eddie, and the hope in his eyes just about killed you.
“Yeah?” He looked like he wanted to say more; no, you knew he wanted to say more, you recognized that eager, barely-suppressed smile on his face.
You weren’t sure what else to say- weren’t sure you had anything else to say. No, you didn’t hate him. That, however, was the only thing you were sure about. You didn’t know that you wanted anything past not-hate with Eddie.
He did have a point, though. This ease of conversation, this frequent slipping back into the old dynamic that had kept your friendship alive a decade ago, wasn’t going to stop unless being around Eddie stopped- and he currently lived ten steps away from your bedroom.
Eddie- unsurprisingly- was the one who broke the silence as you struggled to put a name to your feelings about him.
“Could we… maybe… I don’t know, try being friends again?” Jesus, he looked so optimistic.
You took a deep breath, introspective as you pondered your answer to his question. Could you? Could you put aside your hesitations and just surrender to the inevitable chemistry between the two of you? No, you thought, don’t call it chemistry. That word was too close to the things you weren’t ready to feel again.
But you could be ready for friends. ‘Friends’ implied trust, but with boundaries. Held at arm’s length. The freedom to be vulnerable from a safe distance.
“...I can do ‘friends’.” you conceded quietly. “I’m not opposed to trying that.”
“Really?”
God, he looked like an excited puppy. Your traitorous mouth couldn’t help but smile back at him. Why were you like this? “Yes, really,” you rolled your eyes. “I can get over a high school argument.”
I won’t forget about it though, you thought, I’ve tried.
Eddie’s mouth opened, silently stumbled over what you guessed were a few different attempts at a reply, then finally settled on, “Good. I’m glad.” then after a few seconds, added, “You’re the kind of friend that’s impossible to replace.”
Well, gosh… how could you reply to that with anything other than a melting heart and a forgiving smile?
As the band onstage began to play at last, it became your turn today to contemplate the lesser of two evils. To be forgiving and get burned for it, or to let fear turn you into someone too lonely and too jaded to ever risk your heart again.

Written in the Stars: Eddie X (Fem)Reader.
Summary: soulmates, astrology, and tarot were all silly in your mind. You scoffed at the idea of someone being out there for you and the “universe” having a special purpose for you. There’s no such thing and it’s all a hoax, right?
****************************************************
Slow burn, strangers to friends, friends to lovers, reader is not from Hawkins and bonds with Eddie and his gang. Just two idiots who don’t know they’re falling in love. Eventual smut but it’s going to be a long and slow build. ❤️🔥
*Warning*: 18+, masterbation (male and female) jealous and slightly possessive Eddie; and reader gets jealous too.
@dreamerjj
Part Five:
Eddie was right about the gossip in town; the older men arrived after lunch and cleaned out the rest of the coffee that you had left. You made a run to get more at the store, Harry told you to just let the clerk know it’s for Hawkin’s Auto, she gave you a discount and the receipt to give back to him. When you got back the crowd had grown to include Eddie’s uncle and Chief Hopper. They all fell silent when you walked in with the brown bag and scooted past them to refill the coffee. “Sorry boys, just making sure you have the necessary stuff here.” They chuckled.
“Your mom is an interesting lady.” Hopper remarked. You turned and grimaced. “What did she do now?” “Nothing, I just heard she’s making herself known in the area. Dropping by and giving everyone she can a little bit of her time and some food.” “Yeah she does that.” “Wait?” Harry remarked, “Clara and I haven’t seen a single plate of food from that lady? And she gave you something!” “She’s probably making sure to avoid any speeding tickets?” You retorted and the snickers behind you approved your comment. “Are you single Hopper?” You asked and turned to face him while the coffee slowly brewed its next batch. “Erm, no I’m seeing Joyce. She works at the store, Melvad’s.” You nodded and gave him a thumbs up. “Okay, remember that when my mom tries to flirt her way out of a ticket. Please let her know she deserves those speeding tickets.” You laughed as did the rest of them and you marched back to your desk.
“Are you an undercover traffic cop or something?” Eddie remarked. “Or something.” You raised your eyebrows playfully and Eddie snorted. “So I’ll take you over to Henderson’s with me later and then we’ll come back here to get your car afterwards.” You nodded. “How late do these things usually take?” “Hard to tell, depends on how the gang does. Some days we can play for eight hours, some days three.” Your eyes practically bugged out of your skull at the idea of sitting around a room for eight hours with Eddie’s friends while they played a game and you were just, there. “Like I said relax, if it goes on for a little longer than you like, just say the word and we’ll take a break so I can drop you off here.” You nodded again and took a shaky breath, Eddie noticed of course.
“It’s going to be okay F/N. They are good friends of mine and you have nothing to worry about. You already passed the hardest test.” “What’s that?” “You impressed me. Usually they’re the ones bringing in new blood and I get to put the fear of god into these people and see if they really want to join our club. You skipped that and now they have to deal with it.” “Remember Eddie, I’m not playing tonight. I’m not in the club.” “What? You’re totally a member, I’m the leader and what I say goes.”
“You guys don’t have matching outfits do you?” Eddie blushed and zipped his coveralls all the way, securing his shirt underneath. “Oh my god you do!” You squealed! “Let me see it!” “Absolutely not, you showed disrespect to the artist and now I’m not so sure I even want you to come along with me tonight.” You pursed your lips and shrugged. “That’s fine. Maybe my mom can take me around. I’m sure she knows a few of the eligible bachelors in town by now and we can arrange a date for me instead.” Eddie practically screamed. “Absolutely not! You’re mine for the night and that was the deal. Your mom can have you on Sundays!” “Yes daddy!” You joked, but peaking back towards Eddie you swore you saw him blush and tug his collar again.
“Can I please see the outfit. I am sorry I made a joke. Really, I want to see.” He hesitated and unzipped the front of his coveralls to reveal a well worn baseball style shirt with a devil skull on the front, a mace, and flaming sword. The words Hellfire Club above the design. He blushed and as quickly as he showed you he zipped back up to hide. “Aw Eddie I love it. Did you come up with the name too?” He nodded, avoiding all eye contact and tucked his hands into his pockets. “It’s really cool. Given that I assume you also made the shirts for your band and probably came up with the name.” Another nod. “Don’t be embarrassed Eddie,” he looked up at you from the curtain of bangs covering his face. “You’re really talented. Seriously. I wish I could do designs like that.” “Thanks.” He muttered and headed to the garage to work on the Dodge in the back.
****************************************************
“Eddie, you can’t be serious?” “I’m dungeon master and what I say goes remember?” Eddie crossed his arms glaring at Lucas and Mike who were both upset with him over this new addition. “We don’t bring our girlfriends to the campaigns! Why are you bringing yours?” “Hey!” Eddie moved forward, his tone forceful and unlike anything you’d ever heard. “She’s not my girlfriend number one and number two, if you invited your girlfriends, you’d spend the entire night making out instead of playing!” You sat in the living room where Dustin’s mom was watching TV.
You learned Dustin, Mike, Lucas and Will were all seniors who had played in Eddie’s club since their freshman year. While most of the dungeon masters left it behind to the next member or generation; these guys didn’t want to move on when Eddie finally graduated. He failed multiple senior classes until ‘86 when by some miracle he squeaked by. It was kind of sweet how much they looked up to him and admired his skills as a dungeon master. Dustin walked out from the room where you could still hear the others fighting and Eddie doing his best to defend you and also himself declaring you were just his friend. He plopped himself down on the couch beside you.
“How are you doing?” He asked, He was a nice kid, even though this was your first time meeting him you could tell just by his presence he was a very open and sweet person. “Honestly, I feel like I should probably get going.” “No!” He pleaded. “They’ll calm down eventually. They’re just upset their girlfriends are all at home and they never get to bring them.” You leaned in to whisper in his ear. “You do know I’m not Eddie’s girlfriend right?” He nodded, and smiled. “I know, not yet at least.” You recoiled and gave a sarcastic smirk. “What does that mean?” He smiled back. “I mean, he likes you. He doesn’t bring anyone to these things.” “That’s just because I’m new around here and he feels bad for me.” “Okay. Keep telling yourself that.” You slapped his shoulder and he jumped. “Hey. I didn’t mean to hit a nerve.” He winced when he touched the spot you made contact with. You couldn’t help but laugh, he was annoying but sweet, you liked him.
“Hey, Henderson!” Eddie poked his head through the door and looked over at the two of you. His eyes softened when they landed on your face, but only for a second. “Can you come in here please. You might be able to help settle Sinclair and Wheeler.” Dustin nodded, “Duty calls.” He stood up and went to rejoin Eddie. “You’d think these two assholes would grow up by now.” “Dustin!” “I know mom, language!” And they shut the door. You sat back as Mrs. Henderson watched the classic movie network with tonight’s showing of The Philadelphia Story. Caught in a daze of Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart you barely noticed when Eddie summoned you by name.
“Hey! F/N!” You turned and nearly hit the cat that had taken its spot beside you. Eddie laughed and motioned you to join him. “It’s okay now, all the fires are out.” “You sure?” “C’mon already! We’ve wasted a whole hour with these two idiots fighting and I’m ready to kick Gareth’s ass again!” Lucas’ Sister Erica hollered. You stood up and joined Eddie.
The game seemed easy to follow, and while you didn’t dare join them in their quest tonight. You wouldn’t mind Eddie showing you the ropes so you could join in eventually; it would take you years to catch up to them though. As they all had reached level 18 and according to Eddie, 20 is the highest. They fought a creature called an Archdevil, in the panic of that battle, your mind was consumed by the voice Eddie selected for the character, somehow his voice reached a depth and growl you never heard from anyone before. It had a sultry undertone to it that you could hear again and again.
Then there was his confidence; Eddie was all shy and bashful at work when you were talking to him. His voice always soft and gentle, here he was so commanding and forceful. He knew his way around the game and was quick to improvise when the others did something insane. Like when Dustin decided to do an attack called viscous mockery; He let out a string of profanities and insulted the creature to the best of his ability. Eddie rolled his dice and looked back at them smirking. “Puny warrior; think that would make me tremble with fear? I’ve faced the darkest nightmares you couldn’t even imagine in the nine hells. Try again.” Your heart fluttered when he spoke.
After a while you let yourself glanced at the clock on the wall. The game had been going on for five hours by now and you were beginning to feel the exhaustion settling in. Eddie glanced up to see you yawn again for the seventh time, he nodded and rose his arms up to address the room. Alright gang, we’ll take a twenty minute break.” “Twenty? Why so generous?” Will questioned. “Some people don’t exactly have the same energy as you kids.” He nodded towards you as you made your eighth yawn.
They disbanded and made their way around the basement as Eddie approached you to help you to your feet. “You think you can drive or you want me to take you home instead?” You shrugged and yawned once more. Eddie smiled and pulled you beside him “I’ll get you home. You can take a nap in the van.” Then the two of you left the basement, you could’ve sworn you heard a wolf whistle as you the door closed behind you.
“So what did you think?” Eddie prodded as you rubbed your eyes. “I’m amazed.” “Pretty great huh? Once you get started in this l know you’ll be fantastic!” “Not the game, you.” He looked over towards you, his eyes crinkled when his smiled reached them. “Me? Why?” You adjusted yourself in the seat, hoping not to knock over the pile of cassette tapes on his console and avoiding looking in the back at any cost. “You just seemed so confident and, sure of yourself. I’ve never seen that in you.” He smirked and you swore you saw him blush a little at the compliment. “It helps when I know my way around what I’m doing.” “Oh yeah? Well how come I never see that side of you?” He shrugged and turned on your street. “I can’t figure you out I guess.” “Oh please Eddie, I’m easy to talk to.” “You may think that but, I keep rolling critical misses with you. Like I’m aiming for a nat twenty and instead I’m rolling a three or worse a one. I feel like I say the wrong thing or look like an idiot all the time.”
“Eddie, you’re really underestimating yourself here.” He shrugged and then plastered on a cocky grin. “If you think tonight was something, wait until tomorrow at the Hideout.” “Oh you really think you’re that good huh?” “Oh I know I am sweetheart, you will see.” He stopped and bit his lip in, the pet name slipped out before he could catch it. “Sorry, I uh don’t know where that came from.” “It’s fine Eddie.” “No it was weird I’m sorry.” You clenched your teeth and looked at him. “It’s not as weird as you’re making it out to be.” He laughed and waved his goodbye as you walked into the house.
“Where were you?” Your mom sat with her Bible on her lap, glasses on the bridge of her nose and her crocheted blanket draped over her shoulders. “Just with some new friends.” “Eddie Munson among that particular group?” You huffed and picked at the dirt under your nails, not wanting to look her in the eye. “As a matter of fact he was mom. He drove me home and I’m going to be hanging out with him and his friends tomorrow too.” She turned a page with a sharp snap. “I don’t care for that boy all that much.” You straightened your posture and looked in her direction, her eyes still focused on the page.
“Well mom to be honest I don’t care what you think of anyone. Eddie’s been a good friend to me, and he’s introducing me to a lot of nice people. I need a friend mom and I choose to be friends with Eddie. I don’t care what you say, I’m not going to abandon my friendship with him for your precious reputation.” She scowled at her Bible as you walked up the stairs to your room. “If I find out you’ve been having sex with that boy, I’ll have you thrown out of this house.” You stopped at the top of the steps, turning back towards the first floor. “He’s a friend mom, nothing more!” You walked into your room slamming and locking the door.
You laid on the bed for a minute, thinking over the stuff Eddie said, what Dustin told you and now your mom. Eddie was just a friend; he made that clear and so had you. Still you thought back as well to the way his voice was earlier, that deep and commanding tone. Thought about his touch against your hand and how he would feel in other places, if he had the confidence to take control in bed.
You let your hand slip into your panties and that was the first time you ever touched yourself while picturing Eddie. His soft touch, the roughness of his hands, picturing them in place of your own down there as you circled your clit. You thought about how soft his lips would be as he peppered your skin with kisses, and how he’d feel inside. You let a finger slip through wishing desperately it was Eddie’s. You pictured him using that voice in the throes of passion, “No, you don’t get to cum until I tell you. I want you to know the way it feels to really be fucked!” “Yes...” You moaned, “Ed…”You buried your face into the pillow to muffle the sound of you trying to scream out his name and rode out the orgasm. You’d never came so hard and so fast just from the thought of someone. You laid in your bed, flushed and longing; wishing Eddie would come back to your house and fulfill that desire. You stood up, legs shaking, and got ready for bed.
****************************************************
You finished with one final sweep of mascara to your lashes. Taking a step back you hardly recognized yourself. You had originally planned to dress a little more like you did at the shop, t-shirt and flannel; but you found yourself longing to wear that tight mini dress Angela and Brittany made you buy last year. It was a spandex fitting dress with an off the shoulder top and a slit up your thigh. Very sexy and slutty. You saw it in the window as a shop back home and joked about trying it on with the girls, each of you picked a dress that you swore was all wrong for you.
Angela grabbed a short white dress that blended into her pasty skin. Brittany tried on a floor length dress which dragged as she walked being only five feet tall. When you emerged from the dressing room the laughter and giggles stopped. The girls urged you to buy the dress and told you it would get any guys attention. That’s why you never really got it out, until tonight.
You wanted to look good, both for yourself and a little for Eddie. You pulled up the fishnet stockings and adjusted the seam to accentuate the back of your legs and then tossed on the pleather jacket. You weren’t sure what he would say, but you wanted to make sure you did look good for him, it was a big deal for him tonight and he invited you to meet his friends. You had to look good and like you belonged.
The crowd at the Hideout was a bit more than last weekend. Eddie’s van was parked in the back like last week and you sat waiting to go in. The clock say it was eight forty five; while you arrived on time, you felt sick at the idea of entering and waiting around for his friends who obviously didn’t know you, and Eddie was probably backstage getting ready. You took a deep breath and with shaking hands entered the bar.
Eyes from everyone in the bar practically bugged out of their skulls when you walked in. Clearly you were overdressed for the occasion. You zipped the jacket tighter and headed for the bar. “What’s your poison sweet cheeks.” An old guy with a long beard probed. “Anything that isn’t being paid for by you.” He groaned and walked back to the dartboard. When you turned around two girls were giggling while holding three glasses. “You must be F/N.” You nodded. “Hi, I’m Robin and this is Nancy. You probably met her little brother last night. Mike.” “Oh, yeah hi. You’re Eddie’s friends then?” They nodded and took their drinks, handing you the third to head over to a table overlooking the stage.
There were two guys sitting there already; one who looked more intrigued by the water ring on the table and the other with the crazy hair was chatting up a pretty blonde. “Hey! Jonathan, Steve;” Robin tapped them on the shoulders. “This is F/N.” They turned to get a good look at you. “Woah!” Steve responded. “You are not at all what Eddie described you as.” “Oh Eddie’s been talking about me huh?” Steve smiled as his eyes slowly made their way up you form. “Yeah he’s been talking about you nonstop. Like he said you were cute and all but… DAMN!” The blonde punched Steve in the stomach and made her way to the bar, the old guy began to hit her up which she happily accepted.
“Harrington you are such an idiot.” Robin said and she twirled the lime wedge in her drink. Jonathan smiled as Nancy placed a soft kiss on his cheek, whipping the smudge away. Steve shrugged and offered you the seat next to him. “Can I take your coat?” You removed it yourself and placed it on the back of your seat just as the lights dimmed and the music started. “Yep, way hotter than he described.” Steve mumbled. A cover of Ozzy’s Crazy Train began to wail and you were blown away by the immense power of Eddie’s vocals.
They continued the set with covers of Metallica, Dio, Megadeath, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Van Halen along with a few original songs. Eddie wasn’t lying when he said he was good, he was amazing! They closed the set and Eddie winked to the screaming blonde in the front row before turning his gaze to you and his face dropped. You waved coyly at him and noticed the sudden change in demeanor, his confidence and presence dropped entirely. He staggered off the stage to join you and his friends.
“Hey great work man!” Jonathan slapped his shoulder and as the rest offered their cheers. “It was amazing dude, best set you’ve done in a while.” Steve chimed “Thanks.” Eddie looked sheepishly at you, his face covered in sweat, he ditched the shirt tonight opting for a shirtless performance and giving you quite a bit to think about later. His torso was decorated with a few select tattoos. A spider on his neck, a demon skull; and his arms held the rest. Bats, a puppet master, and what looked like a dragon. He noticed you studying the art decorating his body and blushed.
“You were great. I’m impressed.” He smiled and looked up and down to drink in your attire. “Me too! Where were you hiding this thing?” He tugged at the hem of your dress and it snapped back on your skin, the throbbing between your legs returned. You inhaled, shakily and tossed your hair back. “Oh you like this?” He nodded, biting his lip and paying specific attention to where your stockings met with the dress, little did he know that’s as high up as they went “Absolutely, you look really good.” He licked his lips, eyeing you like a buffet. “So can I get you a drink?” You nodded asking for a tequila shot to which he smiled and promised a quick trip.
“Wow, looks like your plan worked!” Robin quipped. “What?” “Oh don’t play coy, it’s obvious you like Eddie.” You blushed and tried to hide it behind your hair. “No I don’t, we’re friends. That’s all.” “You dress this way to hang out with all your friends or is this a special case?” Nancy noted and sipped at her vodka soda. “I didn’t know what to wear to a thing like this. So I decided on something a little more risqué to look the part.” “What exactly was the part you were going for here? Was it the rockstar’s girlfriend, because if so I gotta say, you nailed it!” Steve chimed in and laughed.
“Uh oh?” Jonathan whispered. “What” Everyone turned back to the bar to see that blonde now resting her hand on Eddie’s thigh and sliding it up and down as he smiled flirting back. “Looks like someone else is trying to get an audition, for that part now.” As he said that Eddie’s eyes began looking down at her breasts which were practically on full display. He was checking her out, and enjoying the attention.
You felt a lump in your throat and the knot forming in your stomach. You were such an idiot coming out here and dressing like this thinking he’d notice you. You gathered up your jacket and purse. “I’ll see you guys around. It was nice meeting you. Give Eddie my regards.” You waved bye to everyone but Eddie and stormed out the door, your eyes catching him as he saw you leave with a panicked look on his face.
****************************************************
“Dude, you are seriously an idiot. A bigger one than Harrington and that’s not something to be proud of.” Robin yelled at him. Eddie wiped his eyes smudging the eyeliner further until he looked like a cartoon bank robber or a raccoon. “I wasn’t planning on anything with that girl and besides I just assumed F/N was just trying to look nice for you guys.” “Eddie the girl had on a thong, why wear that to meet your friends!” “Wait!” Steve interrupted. “Robin, how did you know she had a thong on?” She shrugged. “Hey, even I was checking her out when she got up to leave and I know what a thong looks like on a lady. Apparently you losers don’t!” Steve’s eyes widened and he downed the rest of his beer.
The blonde left Eddie the minute he pushed her aside to try and catch you in the parking lot, but your car sped out the moment he got there. He returned to his friends and sat there listening to the crew tell him how stupid he was for even attempting to flirt back with her when he had you back at the table waiting for him to notice.
He did notice you, the minute he stepped on stage he seen the woman in the red dress; he just assumed she was a new groupie who heard whispers of his band. Thinking you hadn’t shown up yet or were back in the bathroom but then he noticed his friends sitting beside her when it hit him. It was you, you were the woman in the red dress sitting there. After that he kept his eyes laser focused on you, and every new thing he ad libbed to the performance was to get your attention. He was dying to impress you, make sure you knew how great he was, fill your head with nothing but thoughts of him. He wanted you to have a night you’d never forget.
Then he thought of how hot you looked in the dress, the way it clung tightly to every curve of your body, the slit up the side, the fishnets, and now the thought of you wearing a thong under all of that; it was too much. He excused himself to the men’s room when the crowd began to thin out and the conversation switched to Robin and Nancy trying to figure out a way to get you to hang out with just them. Steve and Jonathan were talking about the upcoming Friday the 13th marathon and wanting to make that the next group outing. Once inside the stall Eddie let the silence wave over him.
He unzipped his pants and held his length in his palm, he was still hard from the images of you flashing through his mind. He thought about that thong, your ass which was so tight in your jeans at work, he thought about those stockings and how they were hugging the hem of the dress, the slit up the side and then thought of his hands reaching under that slit to pull your thong to the side. He spit into his hand and began to slowly pump it against his cock. Thinking of how wet you’d get just from his touch and how he would make you collapse just from his fingers working into you.
Then he imagined you sprawled out naked underneath him, about your breast and how perfect they’d look, he knew they were. His pace quickened and his body shuddered as he whispered your name. He thought about how you’d would beg for him, clawing and needing for him to keep going, to go faster and harder. Panting with desperation from his touch. His legs began to shake, whimpers emerged from his throat now.
He remembered your mouth that you painted red, how that shade would stain his shaft perfectly, he thought about how you’d feel going down on him, he knew you’d be great at it and would give him the best head he would ever receive in his life. And with the image of your mouth around his dick, his orgasm hit hard. His body convulsed and his spend leaked from him into the toilet. His body was coated in sweat again and shaking furiously from the release. “Fuck.” He muttered, as he flushed the contents down the toilet before washing his hands to rejoin the group.
“Eddie?” “Yeah?” He groaned at Steve as he took his seat back, avoiding eye contact with any of them, fearing his face would give away that he had been jerking himself off. “Do you think F/N would go with me to the movies?” Eddie looked back at Steve who showed no signs of it being a joke. “I don’t know, why do you ask?” “I was just wondering. Since they’re showing the Friday the 13th marathon next week, would she want to go to that?” Eddie shrugged. “Maybe.” Robin shoved Steve’s arm. “Why are you such a pig!” “I’m asking permission to ask her out. Eddie, listen if you don’t want me to make a move on her just say the word. I’m not going to try and steal her away from you, if you actually do like her.” Eddie stared at the mixed nuts scattered on the table a before raising his eyes up to meet the group who stared blankly waiting for an answer.

*************************************
Slow burn, strangers to friends, friends to lovers, reader is not from Hawkins and bonds with Eddie and his gang. Just two idiots who don’t realize they’re falling in love. Eventual smut but it’s going to be a long and slow build. ❤️🔥

Part Four:
You smiled as you walked into the building Tuesday morning; the container was almost full and you still had dozens of the candies back at the house. You forgot how many of these things could come from a single batch, having last made them for the Girl Scouts when you were young. You left the container on the table next to the coffee pot and waited. You sat at your desk sipping coffee and reading the latest issue of Fangoria when you heard the back door slam shut. You grinned and awaited to hear his response. “Holy Shit!”
The first big job of the day was a new transmission going into a Ford pickup and that had occupied Eddie’s entire morning, you sat and took calls and notes of upcoming drop offs but never heard anything from him about the peace offering. The commotion today was more abundant than yesterday and you longed for those conversations about his various other projects outside of the shop. When lunch came you grabbed your bag and intended to head out to the nearby diner when something tugged at your shirt collar and nearly pulled you to the ground.
“Hold up there buddy. I have a few questions for you.” You gasped for air and adjusted the collar the best you could. “Jesus Eddie, you nearly killed me!” “Sorry, I forgot you’re like a toothpick.” You rolled your eyes ignoring his remark and leaned against the desk with your arms folded across your chest. “What do you want?” He smiled and leaned against the desk as well, his arm just grazing yours. “So, what were those things for?” You raised an eyebrow and pouted, faking the best you could at not knowing. “I’m sorry?” “Those candies you made? Made for me?” “Ohhh, the buckeye candies.” He snapped his fingers and pointed at you, excitedly. “Yes exactly!”
You nodded and stood more triumphantly, puffing your chest out and raising your chin in the air. “Homemade too, did you like ‘em?” He smirked, “Absolutely. But why would you make me something?” You shrugged and stared at a stray piece of gravel that was by your feet, kicking it lightly with your toe. “I guess I just wanted to make sure you didn’t hate me?” He chuckled and folded his arms suddenly mirroring your posture. “Why would I hate you?” “Eddie.” You sighed and pushed yourself up onto the desk.
“Up until yesterday you have barely spoken to me since that night at the bar. I can only assume I did something that offended you or freaked you out.” He lowered his head and slowly walked over to the desk taking a seat beside you. “No, you didn’t do anything.” “Then why have you been a phantom? I have been at my aunts and you avoid me! You even looked a little annoyed I was working here yesterday, I mean at first you did.” He sighed again and drummed his fingers on the edge. “I know, I just wasn’t expecting to see you again?” “Why?” “Your mom.” “Huh?”
He huffed and stood back up, pacing frantically. “When I got you home your mom was pretty upset.” “Well yeah she’s always that way.” “No!” Eddie interrupted, urgency in his tone. “She was really mad. She doesn’t like me and when I left, I started thinking that maybe it was better if we didn’t see each other.” You could feel your face contorting while you tried to process. “Wait! You had a problem with my mom. Vowed to stay away from me and not be my friend, but then you invite me to sit in at your D&D session?” He lowered his head again groaned loudly. “I know.” “Talk about a set of mixed messages Eddie.” He bolted back to the desk and took his spot back. “Look I want to be your friend, I like you.” You blushed. “You’re funny, you’re cool, and I’m sure there’s loads I will like once we get more acquainted, and I would like to see you. Damn you mom I guess because I have a right to be friends with you, right.” You smiled and patted his back. “Damn right Munson. Now would you like some more of those Buckeyes?”
His smile widened. “I have a lot leftover at my house.” “Are you serious?” You shrugged and jumped off the desk. “Sure, you can come over to my house. We can head over now if you’d like, I have some food from last night too and there’s no way my mom and I will be able to finish all of that.” You jumped off the desk and headed to the overhead door.
He hesitated, recalling why he was originally avoiding you. “Oh, um is your mom going to be there?” You shook your head and took your hair up to tie it into a ponytail. “No. She’s been making the rounds to get to know all the people in town. Today she’s going to the ritzy side and trying to make nice with the Harringtons she said.” Eddie laughed and jumped up to make his way over to you. “You may end up meeting one of them yourself soon.” “Hmm?” Eddie nudged your shoulder. “Steve, he’s a friend of mine. Met him through a couple guys in my campaign. He’s pretty nice.” You nodded and motioned him to your car.
Eddie looked in the back to see your large blanket. “Ohhh, planning some big nights here?” “Ha, ha!” You stated. “Not for that Munson. The winters are brutal as you know, and I always keep that in case I get stranded on the side of the road. I also have those emergency candles, a first aid kit, and snacks; which you can’t have.” He chuckled and got his seatbelt on as you headed over to your house. “You know it’s spring right?” “Back home it snows in May sometimes, I never trust the weather!” He held his hands up to admit defeat and dropped the subject.
****************************************************
Eddie was impressed your mom secured a decent place, not many outsiders could get a home their first year in Hawkins. The place still had boxes with some of the stuff from your previous home lying around. Eddie looked through a box with old VHS tapes as you heated up the leftover lasagna. “Who’s the fan of Carpenter?” He lifted a copy of Escape From New York over his head for you to see. “Who do you think?” “Oh your mother, definitely! She seems the type to secretly love these things.” He snorted as he landed on a copy of Casablanca. “Okay and Bogart too?” “Eddie that’s my box! So any criticism of my taste in movies will result in suspension of any free food!” “I wasn’t criticizing, just surprised. You have a lot here and pretty eclectic taste.” “I will take that as a compliment.” “It was.” You emerged placing the plates on the table side by side.
Eddie shoveled the pasta in his face with lightning speed, his moans of pleasure at the taste almost pornographic. “Jesus Eddie, calm down. It’s just lasagna.” “Best fucking lasagna I’ve had in years!” You smiled as you picked at your plate, making a mental note of foods he loved. “You feeling alright? You’re hardly eating?” “I am.” Eddie leaned back and glared at your plate and back to you. “What’s wrong?” You shrugged. “I’m just thinking.” “About what?” You sighed and twirled a stray tomato under your fork. “It’s not important. Finish your plate, we have to get back in ten minutes.” You took a bite hoping to appease him and to silence the gnawing voice in your head telling you he’s just being polite about everything and he doesn’t really care that much. Guys like Eddie don’t find girls like you attractive.
“So, you guys seem to be settling in nicely. Your mom is making friends with the whole town, you’ve mostly unpacked everything, and you’re working with me.” You nodded, as Eddie listed off the achievements, never taking your eyes off the road. “Aside from me you speak to anyone else?” “Well Aunt Jackie, my mom, and Harry; why do you ask?” He shrugged and looked out the window at the passing homes. “Just curious. I know Friday you’ll be coming to join our session, but what about Saturday night?” “What about Saturday?” He rolled his eyes, and huffed dramatically, it was exhausting trying to get you to take a hint. “Do you have anything going on? Are you planning to go somewhere or do something.” You shook your head. “Presently, no. I’m probably just going to sit at home and relax. Maybe watch some movies.” “Do you want to do something else?” You looked over at him then, he gave that charming smile that weakened your knees, everything began to slow down as your mind tried to process what was happening.
“Are you asking me on a date here Munson?” “It’s not a date, I’m just inviting you to come back to the Hideout and actually hear us play.” “Oh, I mean that could be fun.” He smiled, wide enough that the dimples in his cheeks actually showed. “I’ll call up the rest of the gang, I mean the ones who won’t be at the session on Friday. They will come along and we can all hang out.” “Sure, what time do you guys go on?” “Nine.” “Alright, I’ll be there at eight thirty. Should I dress like this or try and go for the corroded coffin groupie look. You know, get all slutty and look easy?” He blushed and adjusted his collar. “Whatever you like I guess.” You smirked and looked back at the road. “Okay, just don’t expect much.” Eddie doubted that, he couldn’t never be disappointed looking at you.
****************************************************
Thursday arrived faster than you expected, you had been mentally preparing all week what to do and what not to do over and over again. You would not play the game on Friday as you never played and Eddie just said you could observe them and hang out, so you would not ask too many questions and keep quiet. Would not bug his friends with stupid questions. You would not let this get to your head that anything could happen between you both besides a bidding friendship.
Starting tomorrow you were going to meet his friends, he was introducing you to people he cared about. People whose opinions meant the world to him. A small part of you wondered if Eddie actually expected you to look good or just like you normally did, did he even think you looked nice. He did say you looked good Monday, or maybe he didn’t and your mind conjured up the words you wanted to hear.
Eddie came in and found you staring at the full pot of coffee and your empty mug, completely lost in your head. He nudged you and you jumped nearly breaking your mug. “Sorry.” He said and patted your back. “I just wanted to make sure you didn’t fall asleep there. You doing alright.” You nodded and poured a cup as your hands shook the pot. Eddie observed this and took ahold of your hands and to steady the pot and ensure you didn’t spill any of it’s contents on yourself.
It was the first time Eddie ever held onto your hand for longer than a second. His hands were covered in callouses from handling the tools here and playing guitar, signs that he bit his nails and picked at them, they were uneven and rough. You couldn’t believe how warm they were in spite of the bitter spring chill that was sweeping through Indiana this week. His palm gently rubbed the back of your hand before he tightened the grip. You felt your throat dry up, your heartbeat in your chest, a knot forming in your stomach, and you couldn’t ignore a throbbing between your legs.
He let go and sat back at the table. “There we go. Are you sure you’re okay there? You look a little pale now.” You nodded, feeling the flush creeping into your cheeks. “Just nervous about the weekend, you know meeting everyone.” He smiled and leaned back on the chair, lifting the front legs off the ground. “Don’t be. They’re good people and they won’t give you any trouble.” “Are you sure?” He smiled and lowered the chair back to the ground and stood up. “Absolutely. I’ll see you at lunch again okay? I’ve got a lot to fix before tomorrow. Just breathe, and relax. They’re going to love you.” With that Eddie headed out to start his morning off.
You smiled and took your seat at the desk, unable to ignore the way your body felt; like a child learning to walk for the first time, trembling and unstable. You looked back up towards Eddie as he slipped into his coveralls, he had his his back turned to you; you noticed the sharpness of his shoulder blades protruding through his Led Zeppelin shirt as he slipped his arms through the sleeves and pulled the suit up his body in one quick motion. He turned around a gave you a little wave, you hesitantly mirrored one back.
“Don’t do this!” You muttered to yourself. “He’s just a friend, that’s all. An incredibly cute friend…” You trailed off as you caught sight of Eddie again, he apparently noticed you talking to yourself, as he twirled his finger around his head and crossed his eyes. You nodded again and slammed your head on the desk. This was going to be the longest weekend of your life.
