Just saw a post saying “minors shouldn’t identify as aro/ace” and I wanted to say… fuck you.

No look, okay I get why some people don’t want minors in certain spaces, and that’s fine. DNI minors then, if you want to.

But you can identify as anything at anytime in your life. It doesn’t hurt anyone to identify as one thing and then realise you’re another. It’s growth. Your identity will change as you age. It’s normal. And if it doesn’t? That’s also normal.

Also, from 13-18 (minors in most countries) is the most complexly romantic and sexual time. Obviously I’m not going into detail as again MINORS. But teenagers undergo the most change is hormones, emotional growth, romantic and sexual interest then any other age.

In my opinion, teenage years is when you’re MOST LIKELY to figure out you’re aro/ace. It’s the MOST LIKELY time to question your identity in general. Obviously, again, no age limit, but it’s the most common time for self discovery.

It’s called a “coming of age” story for a reason.

This discussion requires nuance.

No two trans people are the same and a generalized view of privilege and oppression will not be helpful.

We need to introduce the ideas of positionality as well as socialization to our discourse.

I know nuance is hard and can be frustrating but it's necessary.

We can work together better by acknowledging that we're different.

A trans man who spent most of his life identifying as a woman and who is still seen that way despite years of transitioning is likely going to have more valuable insight on misogyny and the patriarchy’s effects than a newly-out trans woman who’s barely a year removed from her 4chan radicalization pipeline. Conversely, a trans woman who has fought for access to care and legal legitimacy, and has been subjected to years of transmisogynistic harassment in and out of queer spaces is likely to have more valuable insight than a perisex white wealthy trans man who got on T immediately as a teen and started passing with no issues. Neither of this is to say that one group is more worthy of being listened to than the other, but instead pointing out that individuals within the same broad demographic of trans identities can have wildly different experiences and therefore shouldn’t be seen as a monolith of “has this experience” and “doesn’t have this experience.”

And no, thinking that women's only spaces are good thing does not mean that I believe men are inherently evil from birth.

Also there are some very important discussions about sex that we should be having without people A getting to horny to think rationally or B to repulsed by/ afraid of sex to think rationally.

I believe sex should just be seen as one of many things in life and the hype around it makes it less safe for everyone.
