First date jitters- Ben Wyatt, Parks and rec

Request: Ben from parks and rec takes you on an awkward first date??

When Ben had asked me out, I was unsure, we work together and while in different departments I had always made a point of never dating coworkers. If it went sour it would be awkward for us as well as the people that work with us. But something about him just made me want to say yes, he’s sweet and kind, ridiculously attractive and we already get on well as friends so whats to say it couldn’t be more? 

That was my thought process earlier in the week and now here I am getting ready for our dinner date, nervousness pulsating through my body. Should I call and cancel? Pretend I forgot? Is this really a good idea? All these questions rushed through my mind as I brushed through the loose curls I had created in my hair. No (y/n) you can’t do that to Ben, he’s the nicest guy in City Hall and I would be stupid to ignore the chemistry between us... I mean who knows what will happen? 

I locked up my house as my taxi arrived to take me to the restaurant, as we pulled up outside it looked posh... I knew he would be sparing no expenses. Ben soon came into view and I noticed a bouquet of flowers in his hand as he fiddled with his blazer with the other one, he seemed just as nervous as I am which weirdly enough, put me at ease slightly... I got out and straightened my dress, he immediately came over smiling lightly. 

‘You look beautiful’ He beamed as i blushed, I stuck my hand out just as he pulled me in for a hug. 

‘oh yeah, date not work, sorry’ I giggled cringing internally that I was just about to shake his hand like in a meeting, we both laughed as he held the door open and the waiter took us to our table in the corner of the restaurant. 

‘Oh yeah! I got these for you, I’ll ask the waiter to put them into water until we’re ready to go’ he smiled as he realised the flowers were still firmly in his grip, I grinned and thanked him for the beautiful mixed bunch of lilies and white roses.

We ordered food and drink and got to talking, it was actually going really well and we tried to keep the conversation off the topic of work so we could properly get to know each other.

The date had gone really well except for the slight issue of Ben going to grab my hand and instead sending a glass of water all over me, I could tell he was mortified but there was hardly any left in there so it didn’t take long for my dress to dry. My immediate reaction was to burst out laughing while he apologised profusely. He was so awkward its adorable. I tried to split the bill but he insisted he paid so after I grabbed my flowers we left the restaurant. I could tell he was nervous but I had completely relaxed since being in his company, the conversation flowed, we had a laugh and I don’t think I’d ever had such a good date. 

‘so.. do you wanna see me again? I promise I’ll do my best not to spill anything over you next time’ He chuckled and I nodded, his eyes lit up looking surprised that I’d actually said yes. I could see his eyes moving from my mouth back to my eyes so I thought I’d do the work for him, I moved forward and pecked him on the lips, thanked him for a lovely evening and got in a taxi, feeling excited for Monday when I’d get to see him again.
