17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.

On a whim, Donnie decides to figure out what their biological age order is and it turns out that Mikey isn’t actually the youngest!

(The appeal of this trope has just never made sense to me, especially since finding out that he’s not the youngest would shake Mikey’s world most and the writers who do this never acknowledge it.)

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

Honestly, I’m pretty excited to keep working on June of Doom! Just being able to scribble down anything that’s on my brain without having to fill blanks or create an entire storyline- awesome.

Right now, I’m working on a kind of “after the episode” continuation for A Chinatown Ghost Story. I usually only focus on the fact that Donnie was beat up by his brothers, but I realized that- they kicked Casey out of the tornado really fast. And then they didn’t even go after him. They should have been focused on both of them, but they let him go and surrounded Donnie…

When I watched the episode, I got to thinking about how April blamed him and Casey for not being able to handle Purple Dragons and like. What if that stuck with him? The knowledge that Ho Chan wouldn’t have done any of this if he had just handled the easy targets? That April could have died because of him? That his brothers were enslaved for his mess-up and they all turned on him?

(Sounds like a kind of messed-up karma, doesn’t it?)

Honestly, this prompt is going wayyy longer than I meant it to but the goal is to finish it to post by tonight! Guess we’ll see!

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

*shakes Mikey* THIS GUY IS IMPOSSIBLE.

Getting into his head is like pulling teeth. While I admit there are fics where writing his POV was more natural (Crash And Burn & Fashioning Family), most of the time, I can never get a clear reaction from him and it drives me crazy!! Never ending battle.

I enjoy the B-team but he won’t let me write enough of it!!

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

You Can’t Tell Me Nothing I Didn’t Already Know!

I’ve been trying to write an official *Donnie Sick Fic forever and some of the scenes (like the bathroom scene) was inspired from a different fic “Sick As A Turtle” which I probably will never post.

It is one of my most self-serving fics out there. Caters to so many of my favorite tropes in one neat package. The thing that still boggles me is that it was supposed to be three chapters and a 30-50 max kudos story. I was not supposed to get so inspired by comments that it got cranked to five chapters with over 350 kudos to boot.

I still can’t believe it sometimes.

6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?

Taking the scenario in my head and putting it into words!

I’ve heard that some people can see the scene but struggle with putting it down- yet when my brain locks down on a scene, the words just come. It doesn’t matter what the scene is about or why- if I want horror, I can make the horror. Fluff? Super fluffy. Trauma and pain? It’s gonna be brutal and probably linger in a reader’s mind.

I know exactly how it’s supposed to go- what they’re saying, feeling, thinking, doing- and often my first drafts are so exact to what’s happening in my brain that I don’t feel the need to change a single thing. It’s like watching a movie and then writing the script. I don’t know the words until they’re written but I know they’re right.

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?

Writing when the scene isn’t fully developed.

Sometimes my scenes are more hazy than I’d prefer and I hate writing something when it’s hazy. Even when I put it on paper, sometimes my brain reads it and goes- no. No, that’s not what it’s supposed to be. There’s more or less too it. It’s a good story but it’s not the story that I’m envisioning. It’s not the vision.

I have way too many half-completed stories (like Blindsided) that will never be finished because I have a vision, but the ‘haze’ is preventing me from posting or updating it more. Sometimes the worry of not fully grasping the vision prevents me from writing at all.

A few times, I’ve been able to fight through the haze and post the things that don’t fully fit my vision. Made To Broken was a haze story- there’s nothing wrong with it but it’s just. Not what it was supposed to be. Not the full vision. I don’t think I would have posted it if it weren’t for the fact that it was Whumptober.

(I’m still working on fighting the haze so I can post the next chapter of What Was Lost but the struggle is real 😔)

First off, thank you everyone for the support and motivation to continue this for a whole two years :D

Ah yes, time for the retrospective...

We've had some ups and downs, inspiration-wise. Not that I never knew where I wanted this to go, just that at a certain point, I truly realized how big this comic was going to get. It's daunting. I've never worked on a creative project for this long. The writing comes easily to me, but drawing was always the "challenge." I like drawing, but I like writing more.

So the art got worse, so I could focus on writing the next part. I'm fairly pleased with how the new updates look, but it does feel a bit weird. But hey, anything to get some progress on this thing.

I've started writing the next "episode", and that's been fun. Surely it won't be another year before that storyline starts. It's replacing "A Foot too Big" and the only thing these two are going to have in common is "Donnie and April relationship plot" because I hate that episode so much haha.

Lastly, I want to thank the people who've stuck around. The few fans that the comic still has. I appreciate your support.
