Personality: Layla is fierce, tough, and loyal to Avalor. She takes her duties seriously and always looks good while doing so. She takes pride in her appearance, but isn’t stuck up. Layla’s all about female empowerment and looking good while kicking butt!

Appearance: Layla is short in stature with tan skin and brunette hair with greying on the sides. She’s always sporting blue eyeshadow and blue lipstick, (it’s a signature look for her). She wears a guard uniform that she had made herself.

Occupation: 2nd in Command to the Royal Guard divison that protects the royal family.

Alignment: Good

Goal: Be the best darn commander Avalor’s ever seen.

Background: Layla came from a family who didn’t exactly support what Layla wanted. When she told her parents that she was going to follow in her uncle’s footsteps and become a member of the royal guard, her mother was disappointed that her daughter was no longer going to be a jewelry maker like she was and her father, like Doña Paloma, thought that being a royal guard was a job for the men, not the women.

Layla left her home the day she was assigned as a royal guard and never looked back. When she still lived at home, she would train in secret with her uncle, who had a job as a member of the royal guard. He taught her everything he knew and she learned rather quickly.

When Shuriki came to power, Layla and Shuriki didn’t get along at all. Layla would make comments and defy her. Being warned by Esteban multiple times not to defy the queen’s ruling, Layla ignored him multiple times and, in turn, was turned to stone by Shuriki after she had had enough of Layla’s attitude. Unlike Elena, Isabel, Fransico, and Luisa, she aged while set in stone and is currently the same age as Esteban.

Quick Facts: × Layla and Esteban developed feelings for one another at a young age. When she came to the palace, he was her closest friend and she was his.

× When Shuriki banned music and dancing, Layla and Esteban would dance in secret while Armando played music.

× While they kept their feelings for each other under wraps, Shuriki secretly knew something was going on between Esteban and Layla.

× Layla always gives the royal family a piece of jewlery for their birthdays. Fransico and Esteban get pins crests, or rings and Elena, Isa, and Luisa get bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and rings as well. She only uses the finest gems and materials for the jewelry she makes.

× Layla knows how to make jewerly since her mother taught her how and although Layla enjoyed it as a hobby, she had her heart set on becoming a royal guard.

× Doña sometimes makes comments on Layla’s job and can’t believe that she would trade jewelry making for guard duty.

× Elena didn’t make Layla wear the traditional royal guard uniform because she actually likes the uniform Layla made and she thinks it’s cute. Elena would make every guard wear it…if they were women that is.
