Kaz doesn't sleep so he's always the one waking up when kanej's baby wakes up crying. He sits at his desk with their baby in his arms and whispers all the secrets to his tricks and heists until his most precious treasure falls back asleep

ok but imagine this:

seventh year kaz brekker, most notorious slytherin at hogwarts, mainly for the infamous rumors that he broke into a gringotts vault during his fifth year to steal some top secret items. the rumors say he was put on trial but no one could ever prove he did it. while it’s said that the boy has no one he calls a friend, he’s always surrounded by a specific group of people.

among them is jesper fahey, a popular keeper for the slytherin quidditch team who never turns down a bet and has a particular love for wizarding chess and cards. he likes to wear colorful muggle clothes to class, to many professors’ dismay, and when he does have his robes on, his tie is never properly done. nobody has the sense to say anything about it because of how good he looks in both.

inej ghafa, gryffindor and star seeker of the quidditch team—everyone questions her choice of friends, especially brekker and fahey, but no one dares to say anything to her face. the sixth year is at the top of her class, with an especially ruthless talent for defense against the dark arts. rumor has it she wants to become an auror.

her best friend, gryffindor nina zenik, is quite popular, known for being a metamorphmagus. the large, loud girl can be seen with waffles at her table at any time of the day, wearing bright red and gold and entertaining first-years by changing the color of her hair or turning into animals during dinner. she decorates posters and cheers the loudest for both her friends inej and jesper at their quidditch games, even when they’re playing each other.

by her side, covered in glitter from said posters, is always the large, blonde hufflepuff matthias helvar, who’s only ever seen smiling around his girlfriend. he’s a transfer student from durmstrang and has a reputation for being one of the strictest prefects hufflepuff has ever seen. what most don’t know is that he likes to tell stories to nervous first-years when they can’t fall asleep, and offers to help with their homework.

and most questionable of all is wylan van eck, a third-year muggleborn who was known to struggle with his magic, rumored to be have been accepted into hogwarts with the help of his rich father. while many looked down on and talked badly about the red-haired ravenclaw during his first year, they eventually shut up after wylan was moved up three years in potions, where he met his lab partner jesper fahey and they became legends after blowing up some kind of potion in professor snape’s face. it cost them 200 house points each and a month of detention.

the students at hogwarts like to call the unlikely group of friends “the crows”, taken from the head of brekker’s cane that he uses to limp around school. while they don’t like to get too close to the group, stories are always circulating about the group’s endeavors. slytherins like to whisper about the fact that amongst the items brekker stole out of the gringotts vault, there was supposedly a very valuable painting worth a lot of galleons. others like to talk about the time matthias helvar bought nina zenik 100 chocolate frogs and charmed them to form hearts all day on their one year anniversary. gryffindors especially liked to tell the tale of inej ghafa’s legendary game, where she almost fell off her broom before she caught the snitch during a rainy match against the slytherins, moments before the whistle was blown. and a popular hogwarts favorite was the legend of how jesper fahey and wylan van eck began dating, a funny story involving a potions lesson on amortentia that wylan was late to. apparently he burst into the classroom, apologizing and explaining to professor snape that he was finishing an exam when he turned to his lab partner, all flushed from running, and asked, “jesper, why does the entire room smell like butterbeer and your cologne?”

they got another two weeks of detention that day for an “unnecessary display of public affection”, jesper himself liked to tell the first years who giggled as they listened. he makes sure to add that it was totally worth it.

We get major Henlik focus, the "why would Heleen get the Crow Club" Kanej moment, the Darkling indulging David's hand raising, Alina and Mal reunited, Inej defeating the inferni like a badass, Jesper's grishaness foreshadowed in a cool fight scene, and not to mention the iconic Kaz bests the Darkling with a bomb Wylan made him.

“Inej,” he murmured through the pain and fatigue. He was dreaming. She looked like a saint with her hair in it’s usual braid and her usual dark tunic and pants that hid her knife collection. A dangerous saint. He smiled. It was a good dream, so real. If he died now he would be thinking of her and all the things he wasn’t brave enough to say. She came closer and began to untie the ropes holding his weak form up. She frowned at him, her brow creased in worry.

“Kaz?”

“Inej?” it was all he could muster before he slumped onto her, unconscious.

Inej staggered under his weight. He was shirtless and bloody. Specht helped her drag him out of the dingy warehouse, one arm over her shoulders, one over his. Inej shuddered to think what he had endured, the skin that had touched him to inflict such damage. This was not Kaz Brekker, bastard of the barrel. Kaz was broken and bleeding. She did not look over at his unconscious form; the job was not done and they could assess his wounds later. She and Spect dragged him out into the night as quickly as they could.

Kaz awoke in a cold sweat, the memory of the strip of leather crashing onto his chest whispering on his skin. Sitting up, he immediately took in his surroundings; the small cot he lay on, a worn room which he assumed to be a boarding house. Dried blood coated his still bare chest which meant no one had touched him since Inej— His brain was still foggy but her hazy image came back to him. Was she real? As if to answer her question, Inej walked in the door.

“Kaz, you’re awake,”

“I told you not to come for me, Wraith,” he croaked.

“The job isn’t done,” she moved closer and sat in an old wooden chair by his bed. He took her in and marveled at her. How could she keep coming back to him. He did not deserve her. They just looked at each other in that comfortable silence of theirs. He thought of the warehouse when he was so close to death, of every other brush with death they’d shared. The ice court. Van Eck. Pekka Rollins. And the moments in between. Ketterdam’s rooftops early in the morning. Clasped hands at the docks. Her haloed in sunlight on his window ledge. Dancing at the King’s wedding.

“Inej, I—” his voice cracked. He swallowed a gulp of air that stung his bruised lungs. He could not meet her intense listening stare now, his hands fiddling with the rough sheets.

“Inej, I-I’m glad you came,” he looked up at her and tried to convey what he couldn’t say with his eyes.

“We never stop fighting right?” He smiled at her memory of words he had once spoken to her.

my buddy my dude he’s literally a metal grisha. a bullet grisha. he can direct bullets wherever he wants. this isnt a secret or a spoiler its literally in the first book.

I just want to say I imagine her as a mother who talks to their kids with respect, like “hey I know you’re a kid but i also know i have a lot to learn from you so keep talking.” and she would be serious when they are serious, and laugh when they want to make her laugh. She would listen to them and respect how they express themselves in their own way. If she wouldn’t understand the words, she naturally would get their feelings. she senses those things, Ginny.

reading six of crows and crooked kingdom is funny because in everyone’s pov they are always thinking about how they don’t understand kaz, and how he doesn’t care about anyone, and how he’s unpredictable and isn’t loyal to anyone... and then his pov is like inej inej inej inej inej inej inej inej inej
