Pride reading interrupted for more pride reading; I have bought the manga "I Want To Be A Wall" by Honami Shirono, so I will be procrastinating that intersex book.
I promise I'll read it, I just can't get the e-book thing on our tablet to work so I'd have to read it on my phone. Also the chemistry formulas and in medias res-worldbuilding are kinda putting me off bc I'm a bit tired 😴

Please reblog
Australian KOSA is occurring right now
They are banning anyone under the age of sixteen from almost all media sites, including YouTube now.
They are including sites they promised they wouldn’t include
They are using inaccurate face scanning tech that does not accurately know your age
The other option is using government IDs
Neither is wanted.
PAY ATTENTION TO THIS RIGHT NOW. PLEASE JUST FOR A MOMENT

Thanks for the tag, @edgeofgreatness !
Also no particular order:
1. At The Beach, In Every Life - Gigi Perez

3. Technicallyyy boygenius is a different artist so: the record - boygenius (and if that's not allowed I'll take: INSIDE - Bo Burnham)
4. if i could make it go quiet - girl in red
5. The Bends - Radiohead
6. Dawn of the Freak - the Haunted Youth

As I finish the wonderful Elatsoe, I tick it off of my pride reading list: only four more to go, though even this is a frightening deadline considering it's the 24th. Though, I could just finish it in July: Pride isn't temporary.

Also don't think I don't notice that asexual-purple on the cover 🤭 An overall amazing cover, and Cai's beatiful illustrations really richened the story, without it being cluttered at all. I've seen some Elatsoe versions where the purple is replaced by a turquoise-blue, which I don't like as much.
This book made me feel quite nostalgic; it's the sort of thing 11 year-old me would read a lot. It's not quite suited for that age; even I didn't quite understand all the words, but age limits on books never did stop me. The vibes were overall quite good: a spooky mystery in the summer. It's been a while since I've read books like this.

An unique view on America shapes the story, filled with the element I've grown so nostalgic for: magic. Little Badger's ideas shape up a different America, however seemingly relevant to the real one (I say as a non-American). Ellie, trying to solve her cousins death, unravels the whole town of Willowbee. Corruption fuels the town, with dr. Allerton at the top, trampling on the poor to aid the rich, and most of all, himself. He, too, uses magic, but it comes at a price; one he and his clients are more than willing to pay. Watched by the entire town, Ellie and Jay investigate. A haunting climax ensues; her cousins vengeful spirit crashes the anniversary in Allerton's mansion, but his exocists manage to send him away with the help of Ellie, who then sends Allerton to Below; a fitting confrontation with a good ending, although we sadly lost her dog for a minute there.
It also had its light moments, of course, and I found myself chuckling at certain parts, namely the interrupted: "You're so white.", even though I, myself, am white. The story seems filled with the culture of the Natives, which was nice to learn - although I still haven't quite figured out the meaning of 'xastéyó' - it seems to be some sort of "thank you" or "wish you well"?
The metaphor of the rich benifiting off the poor's suffering is quite obvious, and a message I'll always appreciate.

The motif of Icarus falling was also really nice and gave more detail to the story, and also allowed for my favorite Elatsoe-quote: "It's hard to know that you're flying too high until the feathers start dropping."
The aroace rep isn't groundbreaking - and that's great! It doesn't need to be! It's simple, but an important part of her character that's well acknowledged; most of us agree we should get more casual rep, but it's difficult. Darcie Little Badger handled it really nicely though!
Next up: An Unkindness of Ghosts by River Solomon / the Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily Danforth (still have to pick whichever's easiest)

So. I went to see this movie yesterday with my friends.
During the first half, I was having the time of my life. It was much like the 28 days later, except even better: the long breaks without dialogue, the different camera angles, the visual storytelling, the immersive war poem, the flashes of humanity's history woven into the story. I was eating popcorn and M&Ms, watching the masterpiece unfold with glee. I don't quite understand WHY they went to hunt the infected, considering it brought only danger; but I figure it's for religious reasons.
Then came the second half. At first it was all well and good, but as they started to focus on the mother, I started internally begging: 'Please, please. Don't let it be cancer.'
My mom died of breast cancer a little over a year ago.
Most of the time, I can cope by doing the good ol' "bottling it up". Honestly, it kind of happens automatically, and I don't think I can even open the bottle.
So, as the movie progressed and Isla and Spike stumbled across Erik, a Swede whose army uniform gave me flashbacks to the first movie, everything was fine. My friend and I immediately recognised the actor as "that dude from young royals". We lost it laughing at the whole picnic sequence, with the commentary on plastic surgery and Isla's comment: "He [Erik] is a dick." The infected's birthing scene was kind of beautiful, but presented the opportunity for Erik to prove that he was, in fact, a dickhead. Dr Kelson rescued them from a furious Alfa, who had already ripped out Eriks head-and-spine and was visibly naked, which my friends found hilarious. He took them back to his skeleton monument of death for some philosophing, when finally the thing I had feared for arrived. As he diagnosed her with cancer, tears started streaming down my face. My friend tried to check up on me and offered me popcorn, but I refused. I just wanted to watch an incredible movie, but this ruined it for me. It hit too hard. I was kind of down for the rest of it, but by the end of a Burger King-dinner my friends had managed to cheer me up, or at least distract me from it. In the evening, I felt very tired.
And I know that this stuff will keep appearing; Van Palmer, Mac Coyle, nougat, Hole, memories. I just wish it didn't, because it just ends up with me feeling hurt. But alas, life doesn't stop, right?

Intersex people are meant to be intersex.
We were not "supposed to" develop any way other than how we actually did.
We are not a failed version of something else.
We are intersex, worthy of respect as we are.

Alright so basically I have vacation and I have *checks notes* 5 pride books that I want to read due the end of the month. I have to get 3 of them from the library but for now I'm going to read Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger. I already half-read it, like, months ago but I'm going to start over :)

One of those popular type of girls (that I'd already conflicted with) said, when I said "I don't want a relatiolship AT THE MOMENT": "THATS SO SAD YOU'RE GONNA LIVE A SAD SAD LIFE AND DIE ALL SAD AND ALONE". had a really bad 1.5 days because of that. Went home and laid in my bed while listening to Radiohead. Basically, please have common sense and be nice to people?
aroaces ready to come out: let's go gambling
[almost no media representation] aw dang it
["you just need to find the one"] aw dang it
[getting told to get therapy] aw dang it
[less visibility than other queer people] aw dang it
["I couldn't do that, that's such an important part"] aw dang it
[marriage and children being standard/expected] aw dang it
["that's gonna be such a sad life"] aw dang it
["that doesn't exist, quit your bullsh*t"] aw dang it

"You'll change your mind when you're older. You never know what might happen. You'll feel differently one day. As if we teenagers knew so little about ourselves that we could wake up one day a completely different person. As if the person we are right now doesn't matter at all." -Loveless by Alice Oseman
