Tbh I don't think Marina was written villainous at all, honestly her whole storyline just made Colin seem naive and Penelope seem like a genuinely awful person.

i agree colin was very naive, but id only condemn some of penelope's actions. revealing marina's plan was horrible and pen 100% fucked up the worst, but the plan itself was too, and pen tried to talk her out of it multiple times. she didn't judge her for the entrapment (what else was marina supposed to do???) she only asked her not to do it to colin.

what i mean by marina being villainous, is the way she expresses her anger is uncharacteristically cruel. her feelings are completely justified, and of course she's going to lash out (marina should not be held to a higher standard than anyone else!), but i find it weird that instead of getting mad at penelope for not understanding what she's doing to colin, or why it has to be colin, she makes fun of her crush and tells her it'll never happen. it doesn't feel like a shift in her personality caused by george's abandonment, which would be completely reasonable, it just feels like she isn't acting the way she probably would.

i think i just get put off by how instead of her being portrayed as what she is, a desperate girl in an impossible situation doing what she has to to survive, she starts to come off as cruel in the mid to late season because her feelings manifest in a way that isn't like her. and her feelings about what she's doing are inconsistent. not in a "having complex feelings that come and go with time and circumstance" way, but in a "writers can't make up their mind" way
