Phone Usage is ruining conversations more than we could have ever imagined

I am going to talk about something that's been on my mind for a while now. That is how integral phones are to our lives and how much that scares me. It's changing everything. Obviously. Every one has a phone. Our grandparents have phones, our parents, we have phones, and so do our children. I can't remember life before social media very well. I do however, remember the decline into where we are now with our dependency on our phones. I started to see it in the way they talk in "old" movies, those old movies being from the early 2000's to 2010's. How its strange they don't have phones in their hands at all times. I hear it in my mind when I want to talk to my friends and family but all I can think about is checking my phone. We have conversations sitting next to each other, looking at our phones. When I bump into someone on the street, and we both would look up from our phones. With my friends when we're talking and then one of us will go on their phone or FaceTime call someone. And you're sat there on the other side of the call, realizing because you're not holding that specific screen- you're not connected to it. And you see that screen for what it is and wish they would hang up and talk to you.

I think we're in its dystopian peak as we watch multiple wars and genocides from our screens. We don't have to talk to each other about it in person because we can repost. Or leave comments on videos of martyred children. We don't have to protest because you liked the video, shared and commented and watched it 3 times in 2x speed. But isn't this the new world? Is this the future with flying cars they promised us?

I remember our parents saying things like "the kids don't know how to talk anymore because of their phones, they don't talk to each other they just text other people while in the same room as someone else." Now my parents and I text more than we talk, and when we're in the living room, there are multiple screens playing at once. Then we all leave the living room and go on our phones, alone. They were so right, so how did we all get trapped? How did it get to the point where I have a panic attack when my wifi goes out? How come I can't take a detox from social media without risking not talking to some of my closest friends as much. (talking being sending instagram reels back and forth) And if I get off-line, I miss important news- because who has live TV anymore? I can't do my own research either, because that would mean id have to get off my phone and use my brain for the first time in a while. And how will I know which sources to trust if someone in my phone isn't telling me who to listen to? I don't know.

Research and learn as much as you can. Read books and laugh with your friends. Draw something or do your hair and makeup. Question everything and do not follow anyone blindly. Make your own opinions on the world today, and look back on history and see how far we have not come. At least I think that’s the right conclusion to all of this.

i find it funny that conservatives try to paint me calling for the death and destruction of multi-billionaire CEOs as some radical "woke liberal" standpoint. as if that even has anything to do with politics, especially in this era of surface level circus politics. the same way they try to politicize the hurricanes or the wildfires destroying parts of america, as if climate change is somehow a red vs. blue issue. it's no secret i'm from a deeply conservative family in the sticks of florida and i still grew up hearing "i fought the law and the law won". the healthcare system has fucked each and every member of my family in a different way at one point or another, as is the case with pretty much every family in this scorched earth nation. remember when country music, the genre currently associated the heaviest with the most conservative faction of america, used to be staunchly anti-government and about sticking it to the man? remember when the coal miners, grandfathers to the "trump-er hillbillies" of appalachia that everyone loves to write off as ignorant, fought tooth and nail for unionization because the companies that were built off their labor didn't give a shit if they lived or died? since when has "upholding traditional values" gone hand in hand with... defending lawmakers and oil tycoons. my family and i complain about the same issues at the dinner table. the men in charge better hope they can keep their digital smokescreens running as long as they can because the moment the rednecks and the hippies lay down their swords long enough to realize they have the same enemy, all hell is gonna break loose.

Something was in the air at work tonight. I got left a phone number from some guy who said he was “smitten with me” soon after he saw me. Too bad he was #uggo. It wasn’t so much he left he gave it to me before he left and I told him I was a lesbian. He complimented me a lot tho. I feel bad for calling him uggo online.

And then this other table loved me so much they asked me if I could do a shot with them which I did and it was lit. My boss also stopped me mid conversation to call me beautiful. Something was in the air. Too bad I was stuck at work- but also not to too bad cause if that’s gonna happen anywhere at least it’s at work so works less boring.
