Although the term AIAB does exist, many medical systems don’t actually recognize AIAB, so they just categorize intersex babies as female or male based on their own judgement and that’s often how nonconsenual medical procedures get to be performed on intersex children (like the prescription of hormones to create a profile that resembles that of their AGAB regardless of their gender identity, or surgeries to change genitalia to look more “normal”).
Plus, like I said, it’s extremely common for intersex people to find out they are intersex later in life, which could mean they were assigned F or M at birth, which doesn’t necessarily match their actual hormonal or genetic makeup, or they could have been given surgery to appear “more male/female” at birth or in childhood, thus the terms “AFAB”/“AMAB” are not an accurate and whole representation of what their sex actually is.
Here’s your friendly reminder that AFAB and AMAB are meaningless and obsolete terms!

Yeah, for sure!
Basically, these terms have come to be used as a synonym to “immutable sex” and have therein created their own binary idea of sex. “AFAB” is usually used to mean “cis woman or transmasc person” and “AMAB” is used to mean cis man or transfem person, or alternatively “AFAB” = born with a vagina and develops (without medical intervention) w estrogen-based secondary sex characteristics and “AMAB” = born with a penis and develops (without medical intervention) w testosterone-based sex characteristics. The thing is, this is a binary view of sex, and also excludes intersex people, who may be neither AFAB or AMAB or had been assigned one based on their external genitals that does not reflect their hormonal or secondary sex characteristic makeup, as is very common for intersex people who don’t find out they are intersex until puberty or adulthood. It also goes against the proven medical evidence of medical transition changing one’s sex based on DNA, meaning that neither gender or sex are immutable, regardless of what people may think, so whether one was born with a penis or a vagina is irrelevant. If you mean someone who was born with a penis or with a vagina, just say that. If you mean someone who currently has a penis or currently has a vagina, just say that. If you mean a cisgender perisex man or a cisgender perisex woman, just say that. If you mean a man, just say that. If you mean a woman, just say that. There’s almost no situation where “AFAB” or “AMAB” equate to a group one can make meaningful assertions about that couldn’t be made more specific without the use of those terms. The only situation where it is necessary could be about changing one’s gender marker, in which case AGAB is relevant, but there aren’t enough situations where it would be needed to be used regularly for it to become as commonplace as it currently is.
Hope that’s helpful in your understanding of this!! If you have any other questions, feel free to leave an ask :)

Here's your reminder that AFAB doesn't mean that person has breasts and a vagina. That AMAB doesn't mean that person has a flat chest and a dick.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE DICKS.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE FLAT CHESTS.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE BEARDS.
AFAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE DEEP VOICES
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE TITS
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE PUSSIES
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE CURVES
AMAB PEOPLE CAN HAVE HIGH-PITCHED VOICES
Don't let AMAB and AFAB become the progressive binary
#still against the common usage of the terms AMAB and AFAB#but this is a good point that goes alongside that!#intersex#afab#amab#trans#transgender#agab

I genuinely think we need to stop using the terms AFAB and AMAB, at the very least as commonly as they are currently used. There are times when those terms are helpful, but most of the time, they really aren’t and just perpetuate unnecessary division, a false binary, and intersexism

I feel so... down whenever I want to watch queer or trans videos because I know in the back of my mind that none of the current large queer content creators' content or community is safe for people like me, intersex people.
I love their work otherwise, but it hurts badly to hear them toss around casual intersexism in their videos constantly when discussing queer and trans issues and nobody ever mentions it.
And because these are large, popular creators, nobody has ever listened when I've tried to ask they adjust their language. My dms go ignored or unseen and my public comments get drowned out by fans defending their intersexist comments. It's emotionally draining and exhausting, I just want to be included in my own community.

trans intersex culture is having two different, contradictory forms of dysphoria, even if you arent nb. "oh no i'm not masculine enough" + "oh no i'm not feminine enough" = i literally cannot win

stop. stop. it is not just the women and children of gaza. it is not just the mothers. it is also the men. the fathers, the uncles, the vendor, the neighbor, the barber. stop dehumanising them. they are also being killed. they are also being bombed. they are also losing loved ones. palestinians are also losing their fathers and brothers. stop it. stop erasing the pain and suffering of palestinian men. they deserve our love, care and voice just as much as the women and children do.

Haven’t used this blog in awhile, but I’m hoping to get back to posting more intersex activism and body positivity, so let it be absolutely clear that I stand for a FREE PALESTINE and any zi*nists can get the fuck off my page.

Note
intersex culture is being diagnosed with PCOS without even being tested for anything, just based on facial hair growth and weight distribution alone, then treated with estrogen pills without being told what they were, and when you find out as a transmasc it makes you hella dysphoric about your hormones

Whatever method you use to stop hating your body is as valid as another. Body neutrality, appreciating your body because it takes you where you need to go and houses your soul, looking at your body through an aesthetic/artistic lense and loving/appreciating it as a piece of art, finding sexual power/feeling hot in your body, loving it because it helps you connect to your loved ones... It's all valid. As long as it helps you find peace, it's valid.

please remember that over exercising is very damaging, not eating enough is damaging, drinking too little water is damaging, comparing yourself to others (especially “instagram models” or porn stars) is extremely damaging.
you don’t have to be muscly, you don’t have to be buffed, you don’t have to have an “instagram body,” because this is not what an average person looks like!!
work out only as much, as your body needs to, eat as much as your body needs you to, drink as much water as your body needs you to.
Your body is okay just the way it is, and other people should love it as it is.
Love and accept yourself, just as your mind needs you to. You deserve that

Just your daily reminder for all the men out there that your penis size does not affect your worth or how lovable you are!! What matters is being patient, kind, loving, understanding to others and yourself alike!!!
