also as I was scrolling I somehow got EVEN MORE confident in Byler. I get the impression that the reason so many of Finns characters are queer has something to do with the Duffers picking him for the role of Mike. It’s not a coincidence. He has unique vibe about him, the casting directors of Goldfinch and IT most likely looked at his work on ST and jumped at the chance to cast him after seeing how well he protrays the “inlovewithbestfriend” archetype at such a young age.

With THIS lighting?!?

Mileven is a fake relationship. There I said it, and I thought it was more obvious.

They actively USE their relationship to feel normal.

No, not just Mike but El as well.

In fact, the entire Rink O Mania plot is based solely on this fact. El is not lying to Mike for funsies, or because she is scared he will judge her if he finds out she has no friends,

El was lying to Mike because she wanted to believe she was living a normal life.

Her struggle in S4 was her having memories of killing lab kids, and feeling like a monster that doesn't belong because of it. Being with Mike allowed her to supress all those feelings and live life like a normal teenage girl, because what is more normal than a straight relationship?

She lies for months, because maybe if she writes it long enough, the words will come true. All she really cares about is maintaining the illusion of normalcy.

However she crashes out and becomes upset at Mike after Rink o Mania because the illusion was broken. The bullying was not normal. Hitting Angela was not normal. Mikes reaction was not normal.

Mike not being able to write "Love, Mike" has been not normal for 185 days. It all piles up.

People are often confused as to why El needs to hear him say "I love you" so bad when other couples in the show never say it. It's not about the phrase, or the feeling, it's about it being a normal thing to say.

And Mike is not saying it, making their relationship not normal.

This is about how SHE views HERSELF. It's not about whether she is loved by Mike, it's about a sense of belonging in society and the world. It's the guilt she carries for hurting those kids.

But then on her solo journey, she comes to find out that she was not the monster after all. That she is actually the savior.

Knowing what she knows, she no longer feels the need to be normal. She knows she is not, but in the best way possible.

What Will was saying about El was true; in the past, Mike did make her feel like she wasn't a mistake, but now she thinks that herself.

Mike is right, she no longer needs him, but not because "she has powers", it's because she is now comfortable in her own being.

This is why when Mike finally says it, it seems as though it had no affect on her, because she never truly needed to be loved by him, she needed to love herself.

4 seasons of cannon Mileven = Byler evidence

I don’t think that people understand that the fact that Mike and El have been in a relationship for practically 4 seasons is why they won’t end up together. When have you guys ever seen a show with love triangles where the starting relationship lasts the entire show? In fact, in almost all shows that deal with love triangles, they have the characters never end up with the person they first date. Because that is not growth, that is not entertaining, and that doesn’t spark conversations for media, no matter the gender/sexualities.

Its boring. There I said it.

A show is supposed to be entertaining, and a Byler ending would be exactly that.

I also find it crazy that no one bats an eye, and even WANTS a straight female lead character to leave her boyfriend for another man in MANY other shows (including ST).

damn if I was a Mileven shipper i'd be jealous of Byler too.

I wanted to make a Mileven edit, (it's not what you think I swear) as I scoured S3 footage I lowkey started getting Byler doubt LOL (what a fool I was)

Then I time lapsed over the S3 epilogue and thought "Oh there is no way this whole scene ISN'T about Mike realizing he likes Will"

After that I got to S4 to look for more Mileven content and not only could I literally find no happy/cute content (which worked perfect for my edit anyway), I had to skip over practically the whole season because it was just Mike and Will being gay. To top it all off I couldn't even use the beginning of his "love confession" due to it being powered by Wills "YouR ThE HEarT"

At one point I didn't even want to use the "I love you" itself because WHY TF DID HE HESITATE

I JUST KNOW Mileven editors are mad. I mean they have like 5 minutes of happy footage where Will is NOT present to work with while Byler editors have like 40 minutes of flirting and heart-to-hearts. (I counted)

The change in Mike/Byler S3-4 and his realization is so obvious yet people are STILL clinging onto S1 and S3 Mileven as if people don't CHANGE. As if THINGS DONT CHANGE

As a full time Byler believer I sometimes look back at Mike's love monologue and think, what the hell was the point of it if Byler is endgame?

I know it was mostly lies, but to the untrained GA eye it makes it seem as though Mileven is basically healing (when it’s not). Also, why even make him say “I love you”?

If he didn’t say “I love you”, they would have broken up and it would be more obvious to EVERYONE that Byler would be endgame.

So why did he say it?

Because it was Mike's turn to indirectly confess.

How?

Not only it is quite literally powered by Will's “Your The Heart” speech and music, (Meaning Mike remembers what Will said and incorporates Will's feelings towards him in his confession.) He also says this...

“But I am scared that one day you will realize you don't need me anymore”

When I first heard this line it didn’t make sense to me because El NEVER showed signs of NOT needing Mike before their argument in SZN 4.

His excuse of: “I couldn’t say I love you because you're a superhero with powers and I'm an average dude who you probably won’t need one day” didn’t make sense to me  because she was powerless and average when he wasn’t able to say it.

 If anything, she was showing Mike that she needed him more than ever, with the constant cerebro calls and letters, so why did Mike feel this way?

Projection. He was projecting his feelings towards Will onto El.

Will DID show signs of not needing Mike.  Will barely called him, never wrote to him, and ignored him throughout most of the Rink o Mania day. It’s confirmed Mike tried to call him but he wouldn't pick up because of Joyce's job. WILL was the one who slowly got used to not being in contact with Mike and therefore not needing him. 

What I'm saying is, Will is the reason Mike has this fear of El not needing him anymore and “losing” her. 

THE WORD “LOSING” AND BYLER

“idk maybe I feel like I- lost you or something, does that make sense?” -Mike to Will

“your scared of losing her” 

-Will to Mike in van

“if she was mean, or seemed like she was pushing you away, it's probably because she's scared of losing you, just like your scared of losing her” - Will (via El) to Mike

we know he meant “its probably because im scared of loosing you, just like your scared of loosing me”

Mike is scared of losing Will, Mike is scared that Will won’t need him anymore, Mike didn’t say how he felt because…

“I am scared that one day you'll realize you don’t need me anymore and I thought that if I said how I felt, it would somehow make that day …hurt more” - Mike's Love Monologe

We see a shot of Will and Jonathan right after he says this, no, not just Will, but Jonathan, the one who was in the car and knew that Will was talking via El.

We see this because this line was FOR WILL, and Jonathan knows it. (If this monologue was meant to be JUST about Mike and El, it would not have included these two)

It is ONLY when Mike says THIS line that we see Will and Jonathan. Throughout the rest of his monologue we see a shot of a distressed El right after he says something, symbolizing that he is talking TO EL.

(This is also interesting because this phrase is the only one most Bylers don’t call a lie, they usually skip over it because of that.)

“your my superhero and, I can’t lose you” -Mike's Monologe

(Finn said in an interview that the “you’re my superhero” line was improv, they most likely kept this line to further insinuate that Mike does not view El as an equal and rather just admires her)

so the original script was meant to just say “I can’t lose you”

In conclusion, Mike's love confession was really just a scene that was meant to discreetly respond to Will's love confession. This is why his words feel out of place. This is why there are so many lies and the only truth that is spoken is before the camera turns to Will. Mike is projecting his feelings for Will onto El. Mike is in love with Will.

If I'm right, if we are right, Byler is one of the best written slowburn ships of all time.

Will : in love with Mike and needs him for strengh to fight

Eleven: is becoming more and more independent

Mike: wants to be needed and wants to be a “team” w Will again

Solution to EVERYONES problems: BYLER

it really is THAT simple

Byler: adds positive representation to the show and tells an inpiring, “unexpected” and groundbreaking story that sparks conversations for the media

El Independance: teaches woman that they are free to leave relationships they aren’t happy in, shows that they can be powerful on their own and do not need to rely on a man to be successful

What Mileven teaches: straight love is always the answer bc woman need men to love them and gay people will always get rejected by the people they love

The power of Milevens “love” did NOT defeat vecna last season, so why would it this season?

Nah, some other love is going to defeat it, and I think we ALL know where that love will be coming from…

something that i’ve noticed is that whenever presented with Byler evidence, most if not all Bylers analyze it through a Byler AND Mileven lense.

But Milevens always stick to their own beliefs and heteronormative perspectives, that’s why each debate with them feels like this:

Normalize putting yourself in others shoes and taking on mental challages </3

Likewise, I think it’s fine to have occasional Byler doubt, being 100% confident would mean you aren’t opening your mind to different perspectives witch can distort your perseption at times. It is because of the duality of my thinking that I became a ride or die for Byler.
