Kinda fucked up how Kvothe’s mom ran away from her old life and gave up everything to be happy and just wanted Kvothe to live the best life he could ever dream of and then she died before she even saw him grow up:/

I kinda based the drawing of Kvothe on the time he had to kill the fake Edema Rue but you could also interpret it as when he becomes the “kingkiller”

‼️NAME OF THE WIND RANT ALERT‼️

This is the exact thing going through Kvothes head when his lute gets broken fr (first and second time)

LIKE his music and lute are the ONLY thing he has left of his parents. The first time his (technically fathers) lute was broken, he had been beat up so bad and already being half starved and mentally broken but all he could think about was his lute. And he couldnt even think of the physical pain he was in after being brutally brutally beaten because his lute was gone, and nothing could bring that back. The last thing he owned of his parents and the only thing keeping him together. And the fact that technically him biting his assailant and getting shoved into it was the reason it was destroyed haunts him.

Then three years later he’s able to make his way to the University and get a new lute, and it’s beautiful and he gets some hope and heart back. He’s finally able to play again. And then someone takes it all away and he wasn’t able to catch it before it hits the ground. And he hears that crushing heartbreaking cracking noise and it breaks him apart all over again. All those repressed memories his parents death and the first time he lost a lute come steaming back to him and he breaks almost too far to be found.

The scene with Elodin after this is so dear and heartbreaking to me, how Kvothe is mute and deaf to the world and even pricks his thumb and bleedson a piece of his broken lute but he’s so empty he can’t even feel pain again. Everything is gone. His friends are trying to talk to him get him to acknowledge them but he’s completely gone

“there was no Kvothe, only the anger, numbness and confusion wrapping him. I was a sparrow in the storm, unable to find a branch to cling to”

“while I heard the words, knew their meaning, even knew the meaning that belonged to them. I couldn’t pull any sense from them”
