China’s Latest Tech: An Arabic-Speaking, AI-Powered News Anchor From Sogou.
The operator of China’s second largest search engine, Sougou, is developing the world’s first Arabic-speaking AI (artificial intelligence) news anchor.
It’s a mouth full, but it means the news anchor will be a computer program.
The lifelike AI virtual anchor will help Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) provide news broadcasts more efficiently in a range of engaging formats and potentially round-the-clock, according to a statement by Sogou on Sunday.
China has been ramping up to become a global leader in AI by 2030, and now has an edge in terms of academic papers and patents as well as cross-border and global AI funding. The world’s second-largest economy is already home to six of the 11 biggest AI startups.

The Microsoft logo throughout the years.
My brother had Microsoft Flight Simulator in the mid-1980s. He was good at that kind of thing, he had insight. He was a real nerd: glasses, Beatle hair, and a big digital watch that displayed all the different moon phases. He could land a plane.

Israeli scientists unveil world’s first 3D-printed heart with functioning cells
Tumblr media
Scientists in Israel unveiled a man-made, 3D print of a heart with human tissue and vessels on Monday, calling it a first and a “major medical breakthrough” that advances possibilities for transplants.
Although the technology is still in the works, scientists hope one day to be able to produce hearts and organs suitable for transplant into humans as well as patches to regenerate defective organs.
“People have managed to 3D-print the structure of a heart in the past, but not with cells or with blood vessels,” Professor Tal Dvir stated.
