james comes to check in on him every half hour to make sure regulus is staying hydrated and to ensure the dying guy in their bathtub isn’t hurting his baby

James drives after the ambulance at the speed of light.

After Regulus suddenly collapsed while cooking and James could do nothing more than wait for the ambulance, it now feels like an eternity until he arrives at the hospital.

There he has to wait what feels like years until a doctor speaks to him.

"So you're Mr Black's flatmate?"

"Yes... So no, so yes, but I'm his friend. So his... we're engaged."

"I see, okay. So Mr Black is stable at the moment, but we're still keeping him here to find out what happened."

James jumps up from his chair and replies, almost shouting:

"So he's conscious again? Is he asleep? Can I see him? Oh God, I have to call Sirius!"

The doctor smiles slightly: "He's in room 59"

James runs off in the direction of the room in question and rushes straight in.

There he sits.

Regulus with a glass of water in one hand and a chocolate bar in the other.

He immediately looks towards the door and smiles as soon as he recognises him. James immediately runs to him, puts both hands in Regulus' face and looks him up and down. Regulus immediately sees the tears in his eyes.

"Are you okay? You feel good? Hello Love!"

Regulus smiles: "I'm fine James"

"You just... Collapsed. In the middle of the kitchen. You didn't wake up. Oh, I thought you were having a heart attack or a stroke or a seizure! Did they say anything?"

Regulus puts the glass down and puts his hands on James, which are still on his face.

"Im fine, James. I told you my circulation isn't good sometimes. I'll just eat some chocolate now and then I'll be fine."

James exhales with relief.

"Are you sure? Just circulation problems? Because... I... I don't know what would have happened if you...if you hadn't woken up. My heart wouldn't have made it. I can't do any of this without you, love." He presses a kiss to Regulus' forehead.

"You don't have to, Jamie. I'm here. I'll always be here. As long as you let me."

The tears flow from James' eyes, he leans forward and buries his face in the crook of Regulus' neck. They stay like that for a while. Regulus runs his fingers through James' hair as he clings to him. Later the doctor arrives, says that it was really just the circulation and they go home, but James doesn't let go of Regulus for a second. He wants to savour every moment with him, to feel, see, sense and hear him for as long as he can. Once again, this fear has shown him that everything he needs is already in his arms, sleeping peacefully.

1) In July 1976, he came to the Potters through their floo together with unconscious Sirius. He left again before Effie and Monty came.

2) After his brother got away from home, he continued to secretly check on him.

5) He got punished for it by his mother. That was the second time he came through the Potters's floo.

6) He spent most of his nights at Hogwarts in the astronomy tower.

7) Regulus had violent nightmares that left him shaking. Sometimes, the shakes didn't stop for hours.

8) His touch was like the ocean - engulfing, gentle, but also powerful.

9) Before he left for the cave, he obliviated James in his sleep.

10) The obliviate didn't work.

head cannon that sirius always loved his mother, it didn’t matter how hard he was hit or cursed by her he still loved her but that all ended when regulus was hit with a crucio for the first time. yes both brothers had been punished before and sirius had already had his first few crucio’s cast on him already but punishments were the norm for them both, but when his reggie lay there withering and screaming in pain he did not call or beg for their mother, no he cried out for sirius, for his big brother to save him and that is when it clicked, he could no longer love his mother when she was hurting his reggie like this and that is when he vowed to always protect him, step in frount of him to take the hit instead, try to cause a worse distraction so his mother would forget about his reg and go after him instead, it may have not always worked, barely at all at first but at least he could save his reg from any extra pain, after all what was a big brother for.

i think it’s interesting that lilies are incredibly poisonous for cats and it’s headcannoned that regulus’s animagus is a tiny black cat…

…almost as if to say that no matter how hard regulus works, his body and his circumstances will always betray his wishes
