I love how the Marauders thought they were so clever and stealthy for becoming Animagi even though it was the worst kept secret in Hogwarts history and meanwhile here’s Regulus Black slinking around the castle as a cat since his second year and not a single person ever knew.

Just saw a post about Remus really wanting a cat and him being the biggest cat person and all he wants is to take good care of a little kitty cat but he can’t because cats hate werewolves and it breaks his little heart. And the post was a wolfstar centric post but when I started reading I immediately thought MOONWATERRRR

like Remus who’s always wanted a fucking cat but is now making peace with the fact he will never get to own one (he cries himself to sleep over it sometimes) and then he and regulus start going out

And Remus has made peace with the whole no-cat-thing now because he has a boyfriend and his boyfriend is basically a cat anyway so it’s nice.

But then maybe after Christmas break or something Remus comes back to school and starts whining to his boyfriend about not getting to have a cat and him being jealous because their neighbours little girl got one for Christmas “and that little shit doesn’t even know how to care about one like I would Regulus!!!”

And Reggie supposed they’ve been together long enough and maybe his lies about being in love with Remus are starting to weaken, and maybe all he wants in the world is to make his boyfriend happy which is stupid and he hates it but it’s TRUE. and he trusts Remus, with everything, and so he shows Remus his animagus form and it just makes Remus sob.

He sits there for hours with Reggie as a little black cat, just petting him and cuddling him whilst reading and drinking tea, and it’s the best day of Remus��� life. And maybe it’s the best day of Regulus’ life too because Remus keeps touching him and playing with him and snuggling him and as a cat Reggie doesn’t have to pretend he’s embarrassed by all of that. Maybe it makes him fall in love with Remus a little more.

"James?" Lily says. Her mascara is running tear tracks down her face. Marlene and Remus, who are flanking her, look similar.

"What's happened, Lils?" James asks, standing up quickly. She hands him a newspaper, which he unfolds.

He chokes. It's like someone's reached down his throat and ripped out his heart. Next thing he knows, Sirius is there, and Remus and Peter and the girls, but no Reg.

No Evan or Barty either.

"They probably sold him out," Marlene says, hand on Sirius's shoulder.

"They wouldn't," Remus says. "Those two were there for him when none of us were. They protect him like he's their kid, they're probably lighting shit on fire already."

James can't talk. That can't be true.

"Hey, James," Sirius calls through the house, appearing with a cat in his arms. "Cat's attached to me and Remus doesn't want it, do you?"

James looks at the cat. It's got white fur in a frame around its face and striking blue eyes.

"Yeah," James says. "Also, it's time for you to head out isn't it?"

"Yeah," Sirius says.

He just leaves. None of us believe in goodbyes.

"Morning, Potter," the cat says while transforming. "I must say, I had no idea my brother was that predictable."

James smiles and wraps his arms around Regulus Black. "Can't believe you faked your own death for me."

"You're alright."

"Ooh, alright, am I?" James asks, pressing his forehead to Regulus's, both of their visions tainted by bleached-white and curly brown hair.

Regulus grins, stands up on his tiptoes, and pressed his lips to James's. "Maybe a little more."

Animagus regulus black means so much to me because I love everyone’s different ideas about what it would be. Black cat? Classic, love it. A raven? Goth as hell, lemme at him. BIG White snow leopard?? Immaculate Im frothing at the mouth. Vampire bat?? Fantastic gimme fourteen of em. A fucking black lamb??! Gorgeous.

James bought Reg a cat bed and a scratching post when they moved in together

jegulus where they have matching necklaces with eachothers nicknames and animagus forms engraved on them

when Regulus gets the dark mark and they break up, James stops wearing his in an attempt to move on because he can't stay in love with a death eater. while Regulus keeps wearing it, never taking it off, clutching the pendant in his hand whenever he's alone, remembering their relationship as a way to fight off the pain of his new life.

When Regulus is pulled into the water the necklace slips from his neck and he dies reaching for it as it slips out of his reach, the hands dragging him away.

after Regulus' death announcement in the paper, James puts the necklace back on
