REJOICE MY FRIENDS. Today has been glorious because we got some huge lore drops from our DM, and started piecing together things on our own, which in turn required us to read through my summaries.

And the one group member who has never commented on Neil goes, "wait. who is Neil. why is there always a horse named Neil"

and the rest of them was like "...did you never notice Neil before? He has been there for ages. at this point we are actively looking for him"

looking at my first post regarding this story, I can hardly believe that it took us about a year to get here.

In my DnD group, I'm the one who writes down a summary after each session so we can look up things easily (also trying to build kind of a wiki; it's coming along nicely). I know that our DM uses those summaries for our session recaps and at least some other members are reading through them as well.

So.

I have started to include one random line about a horse named Neil in each of those summaries and so far, nobody has called me out on it. (Neil is not a character in our campaign. Nobody knows a horse named Neil. Neil has no business being there. Neil always shows up in the summary.)

So far, Neil is mostly hiding behind pillars and watching our party from the sidelines, but this time I had him take a picture for his dungeon blog.

🎃🔥Dark Souls Collab Drawing Event for Halloween🎃🔥

Chosen Undeads, Bearers of the Curse, and Ashen Ones alike - gather around the bonfire, IT'S FINALLY SEPTEMBER. To celebrate my favorite time of the year and my current fixation, I'm opening a Halloween drawing event on Magma, where everyone can draw their favorite Dark Souls characters in spooky spirit.

🧐 What's Magma?

Magma is a giant shared drawing canvas where everyone in the fandom can sketch together in real time, like Google Docs. Think of it as one huge collaborative artwork: you claim a spot, draw your blorbo, and by the end we'll have a big spooky Dark Souls-themed mural to celebrate Halloween.

🗓 Deadline:

The canvas will close at 23:59 GMT, 30/10/2025, and I'll post what we made on my Tumblr on Halloween day. 👉 Tip: Join early to get used to the Magma interface and brushes before you start drawing.

Dark Souls characters only. This is my first time hosting something like this so I'm keeping it to the Dark Souls trilogy to make it manageable. (If you want, feel free to host your own Soulsborne Magma - it'd be amazing and I'll participated in that too!!)

Respect others' work. Don’t draw over someone else’s spot and try to give a little space if someone's still working on something nearby. This is not r/place. If space runs out, I can always open a new canvas!

Keep it SFW. Canon-typical nudity (ex: Quelaag) and blood are fine, but no explicit NSFW so I can share what we made on this hellsite.

Anor Londo was no place for a darkwraith.

So it was easy to tell himself he kept sneaking in there out of spite—the boldness of the Abyss; the dark desire to prove that he could go anywhere he pleased.

Sometimes though, when the city lay quiet in the evening sun, everything softened by golden light and diffuse shadows, Umbra knew he was lying.

He would perch on some wall high above, the stone under his palms warmed by sunlight. He’d be silent, drink in the view with an earnestness he never displayed for anything else.

He should have seen anything in this place, but not beauty. And still…

He’d clench his fists, not gently, dark fingers always twitching with hunger. Not a word, never, to anyone. Not about this gnawing pain. Not about this one certainty thrumming within, a heartbeat that was not his own:

I do not belong.

starlight. darkness. what do you see?

You call forth spirits to protect you. They flit around you to a distance of 15 feet for the duration. If you are good or neutral, their spectral form appears angelic or fey (your choice).

So my little kobold cleric does cast Spirit Guardians on occasion, and this is what hers look like.

(She cast the spell last session while blinded by an enemy, so technically she couldn't designate her friends as unaffected by the spell - because she didn't see them. So our DM ruled that the tiny flitting kobolds in a trenchcoat would attack her allies as well. And hilarity ensued.)

Izar isn’t used to finding flowers on her doorstep–let alone that many! She gathers them carefully, revelling in their scent with closed eyes for a moment, then drinking in the bright colors.

She’ll put some of them in a vase to sit on her desk as she works; her next maps are bound to be adorned with floral ornaments. She’ll pick some favorites to press between the pages of a heavy tome, and keep them for good, a little reminder of an unexpected kindness. And maybe she can even plant some outside the Hold; water them every night as she heads outside for stargazing.

She hums, lost in thought, as she goes to get a vase, barely noticing the warmth in her cheeks that would tell her that the compliment has made her blush.

by the way I am very serious about this. Umbra does have a tiny pet mimic. I'm still debating whether it guards or eats the shiny trinkets he collects but either way it's adorable and way too hungry.

Somehow, Umbra had assumed that getting a pet mimic would be way easier.

** apologies for being so quiet on here (apart from throwing y'all the occasional darkwraith drawing because the Umbra brainrot is real; expect to see more of him)! I owe a lot of replies and reactions and I promise I'll get to them all! I'm doing fine, just was grappling with another deadline project (this time, it was the publisher's fault that things got a little messy in the end), plus July/August are filled with many small trips for me. (I got back from lovely Prague last week, celebrated my birthday at home, and am now heading to a summer writing retreat with friends – if I get there without melting, that is.) so I simply haven't had much time and energy to be active, but I'll be back. Take care in the meantime, everybody!
