Favorite thing about them: My favorite thing about Janja is his redemption arc and how it challenged the bias of hyenas that has been set in The Lion King franchise since day one. Janja didn’t start out much differently than Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. He was a hyena, starving in the Outlands, taking whatever he could get. Why should he respect the Circle of Life and the Royal family when he was never even given a chance? He was starving and had to feed himself and his clan. He thought that reviving Scar would improve their conditions, believing that Scar genuinely cared about the well fare of hyenas, in contrast to the Pride Land Lions. Jasiri had already planted the seeds of doubt in Janja, and he felt conflicted as to his beliefs and allegiance to Scar. So when Scar betrayed him and his clan, Janja realized that Scar never cared and joined Jasiri and the Pride Landers against Scar.

Least Favorite thing about them: I don’t have a least favorite thing. His criminal record is in the past and doesn’t matter to me anymore. There isn’t a thing I don’t love about this hyena!

Fanon pet peeve: Some fans are too hard on Janja for his past misdeeds. Janja doesn’t need to do community service for summoning Scar. He helped defeat him! Janja showed incredible courage and bravery seeking out Jasiri and joining the Pride Landers. He’s more than made up for his past actions. He proved his worth.

Adorable

Bunga walked forward, with a sleeping figure in his sights. A sleeping figure that was currently at the Tree of Life for the upcoming coronation, personally invited by Kion himself. Once he reached them, he poked them, again and again. Then he ran his hands through their fur. It was surprisingly soft. In old times, he wouldn't consider this. But times had changed, and old circumstances were replaced with new ones. He grinned, as a mischievous smile appeared on his face. "I'll have to tell Binga about this." he whispered to himself. He left, only to come back shortly with his crush of sorts. She frowned when she saw the figure. "Are you sure about this?" she asks "You told me what he was like in the past..." "The past is in the past, Binga." Bunga shrugs "Besides, look at him. How dangerous could he be?" Binga looks at the sleeping face and the dopey smile, and she has to agree that he is harmless. Harmless and adorable. "Touch his fur." Bunga instructs her "You will be surprised." Binga does so, and her eyes widen. "Why did no one else find out about this?" she asks "Eh, they've never tried." Bunga shrugs The two honey badgers look at each other with mischievous intent. Then, Binga runs off.

_____ When Janja wakes up, the first thing he notices is Binga petting his leg. The second thing he notices is a large queue of animals, all of whom are sporting expressions of wonder on their faces. Bunga is in the front of the line, trying to keep things in order. "Guys, one at a time." he insists "We don't want to overwhelm him, do we?" "What's going on?" he demands, somewhat gruffly "Oh, morning, Janja." Bunga greets "Well, we may or may not have told these animals how adorable you are when you're sleeping." "Or how soft your fur is." Binga adds as she runs her paw through his fur "And now they all want to ascertain it for themselves." Bunga concludes Janja only rolls his eyes at their antics, and promptly goes back to sleep.

Mother's Wrath

It was night time when brisk, business-like footsteps resounded in the volcano. An adult hyena came into the caldera, and it was Shenzi. "Scar." she growled "I know you're here." Suddenly, Scar's flaming visage appeared before her, and he was torn between looking pleased and scared. "Shenzi." he greeted her with a smile "What do I owe this pleasure to?" "Don't play dumb, Scar." the former hyena leader growled "You ordered my son's death, didn't you?!" "Well, yeah." Scar suddenly seemed afraid "Good, be afraid." Shenzi laughed "Be afraid of what I can do to you. Because I will, undead or not." "What can you possibly do to me?" Scar asked Shenzi only laughed as she left. "The events have been set in motion already." she said as a parting shot Then she left him there to stew about the implications of her words.

Random Janja Headcanon #1

Janja has PTSD because of Scar ordering the deaths of him and his clan. It's triggered every time he's near fire of something that could cause it, like thunder. This is why he was afraid of thunder in S3.
