“sweet girl.”

you snap out of your trance, blinking your eyes as you come back to reality. “hmm?”

“are you okay?”

percy wears a concerned frown. you can’t help but match his expression knowing that you were the leading cause to his distress.

“I’m okay.”

“are you sure?” he reaches out, giving you a peck on the cheek. when he pulls back, he takes both of your hands into his own, rubbing your knuckles soothingly.

you kiss one of percy’s cheeks. “I’m sure. I just stayed up late last night. you were out by nine but I couldn’t sleep.”

“you could’ve woken me up.”

you shake your head, toying with his fingers. “you looked peaceful.”

“what time did you fall asleep?”

“two…”

“and you woke up at ten.”

you nod, tiredly resting your head on percy’s chest. your entire body follows, curling into him subconsciously.

“you need to get some sleep, sweet girl.”

“I know. but I had to finish my book.”

percy untwines his hand from yours, using one to card his fingers through your hair. the action alone nearly sends you into a deep slumber. though you sigh contently at the comforting notion.

“you’re trying to make me fall asleep,” you mumble, voice muffled from the skin of his chest.

“insightful. and sexy. nice.”

“insightful?”

“yeah.” you hear percy’s smile through his voice. “you told me that word once.”

you tell him a lot of words. you often have him read ones from higher vocabulary to expand his knowledge of words. a few months ago you had began a thing where every sunday you would sit with percy and repeat words over to help his dyslexia after he’d complained about not being able to read your books with you.

you’re surprised he remembers half of them though. usually he ends up zoning out and staring at your lips halfway through your lesson. then he asks if your into the whole teacher-and-student trope.

“I didn’t think you’d remember it.”

“I remember everything you say to me.”

you grin in disbelief. “your lying.”

“promise I’m not. yesterday while you were eating lunch you said you wanted to ‘eat the ass of the guy who made this sandwich.’ direct quote.”

“‘was a really good sandwich.” your eyes flutter closed as the exhaustion begins hitting you.

“I know. you told me seven times.”

“hmm. interesting…”

percy presses a kiss against your forehead, sliding your hair out of your face and behind your ear. “sleep, sweet girl.”

you exhale slowly. soon enough you comply.

Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish, voted on by my lovely Patreon members for April! A scene from The Wicked King by Holly Black, Cardan and Jude pledging their troth.

This scene was nondescript on the type of flowers that were blooming in the king's chambers as they were professing their vows to each other. But given how they were both adamant that their marriage would be utilitarian and short lived, I feel like the room blooming over head was a sign that it was more permanent than they realized, hence the wisteria and its meaning. 🤭

scenes like this were my absolute favorite part of the book. like i loved seeing my favs meet by PURE CIRCUMSTANCE (cough cough when everyone was looking for the crown) and become such good duos; like Zoe and Mariah were SO TEA. Valec and Nick and their different ways of protecting Bree? spectacular. like it was just so fun to read and be like "I KNOW YOU!!!"

this was actually one of the funniest parts of oathbound

What’s actually genuinely making me explode about Oathbound is how it’s made so fucking clear and explicit just how LOVED everyone is

How Natasia talks about Selwyn after thirteen years as she fights so hard to help him bc he’s her baby and she loves him

Even as he’s mocking and taunting and insulting them, all Bree and Nick do is reassure Sel that he’s not a failure or mistake bc even now even when Bree doesn’t remember him they LOVE him

When William learns about Nicks abuse and vows to be there for him and to never let him think that he isn’t believed in ever again bc he Loves him

When William neglects HIMSELF and Lark insists on going on the quest just to make sure he’s taken care of and protected bc william protects everyone but lark just wants him to be safe bc he Loves Him!!

All the years and decades of love between Valec and Mariah and Hazel and Lu bc they’re a family and have each other no matter what

And Everyone loves Bree!!!so much!!

Mariah, William, Lu and Hazel, Nick… all of them fought to get back to her because of how much they love her!!!

Sel being at the height of his demonia and still clawing and burning himself free to get back to her bc even when it’s warped under all the rage and darkness, he always loves her

Nick’s every word and act and breath being filled with love and affection and trust and call and response for Bree bc he will always find her and fight for her and always always always love her!!

Bree collapsing in her dads arms and sobbing after nearly a year without seeing

Bree fighting like absolute fucking hell to find four lost, scared black girls because that’s exactly who she is

Valec’s monologue near the end and everyone she cares about in one room talking about how beautiful Bree’s soul is because of how much SHE loves 🥺🥺

Like???? Love is the point babes, it was the whole point the entire fucking time
