Simon ''Ghost'' Riley - Character Study

Ghost mourns the death of Simon Riley to this day. When Simon Riley faked his death and switched his dog tags with the ones of the colleague who killed his entire family, he burnt his family home and Ghost was born. His arm sleeve has a tattoo of dog tags, which belong to Simon though the engraving is not visible.

Unlike some may think, Ghost isn't cold or rude. Throughout the entire campaign he remains polite and even cracks jokes with Soap to help both of them to calm down, something that certain spec ops do in real life as well during tense missions to ease the tension.

He doesn't enjoy killing, his voice lines in multiplayer show it. He's quiet, reserved, and gets the job done simply because that is the path that he chose.

Ghost isn't completely averse to touch despite his trauma, though touchy people could easily make him uncomfortable unless he knows them and feels comfortable around them. Pats on the shoulder, handshakes, and maybe even a quick hug are some of the things Ghost doesn't seem to mind.

Contrary to popular belief, Ghost/Simon would never lay a hand on you or be too rough during sex. Even Ghost, the rough around the edges soldier, would never slap you, degrade you, or even roleplay CNC/dubious consent scenarios with you. This man has been raped and sexually assaulted by men and women multiple times, and he literally has nightmares in which he's violent sexually towards women- he would never let those nightmares become true.

When and if he's ever comfortable having sex with someone, he'd be gentle, asking multiple times for your consent and testing your reactions to see if you're into it. At the first hint of hesitation, he'd stop. It would take him months and maybe even years to feel comfortable touching someone in that way, and it would never be just a random person- it'd have to be someone very close to him, likely a partner or a teammate.

Simon/Ghost is not aggressive. He'd never be abusive and quite honestly, it's frustrating seeing all the headcanons about this man possibly being abusive or putting his hands on his partner when he's mad. This man has been abused his whole life, both as a civilian and as a soldier- he'd rather die than become an abuser like his father or Roba.

Horribly afraid of losing the few people he trusts. His entire family was murdered, he's scared of getting close to anyone just for them to meet the same fate.

He knows how to stay calm extremely well, he's an experienced soldier and even when he's about to die- he manages to be calm and gentle, as heard on his voice lines in multiplayer.

Anyway. This man is a gentle and caring soldier, despite the fact that he's rough around the edges and extremely reserved, always keeping it professional. Befriend him and you'll find a loyal companion for life.

i liked what you said about stonathan being protective figures for the party - it makes a lot of sense for their characters and roles in the show. also helped me realize why it irritates me sm when ppl write steddie in a similar vein (ie as protective/parental figures for the party). i like both steddie and stonathan but that type of dynamic just does not suit what we saw of eddie in the show imo and it always feels unearned bc ppl just kind of extend steve's relationship w the party over to eddie. it's the worst imo when it comes to lucas and max bc lucas and eddie have unresolved issues that rarely get brought up in fic and max is extremely guarded generally and barely knows that man yet ppl insist he's a big brother figure to her.

steve and jonathan literally split the party in half and both take care of theirs, like the divorced parents in parent trap. and yeah, out of stonathan and steddie, only stonathan makes sense when giving them and the party any kind of family dynamic.

i hate when people slot eddie into that role with the kids, because it just doesn’t fit. like, when people make him will’s gay guru, as if will’s older brother isn’t a gay man? people pop steve and eddie together and think that automatically makes them the parents of the kids and it just doesn’t. unearned is totally the right word. jonathan is will’s brother, we see steve bond and take care of all the kids, but eddie doesn’t do any of that work. the kids just adore him instantly.

and yes! especially with lucas and eddie. like lucas and eddie are gonna have a lot to work through before lucas is really gonna look up to eddie. and totally agree on max. she’s very closed off and yet people think because they live next door they’re automatically siblings? steve is the only teen she wrote a letter for, and yet people wipe that away to give eddie importance.

time to elaborate on my stonathan fic.

its a season 5-fic where its four years into the upside down merging with hawkins. the hawkins crew is older and now forcefully soldiers. this fic has the intention to undo the horrible character writing of season 4 (EX: FORCED STANCY). this fic will be the darkest fic i ever planned out as it will feature major character deaths so a few fan favorites will be killed off:. the fanfic will have 11 chapters, each will be an “episode”.

some big notes are:

• nancy wheeler as a TRUE BAMF / HBIC. she’s more proficient in her marksmanship and extremely intelligent. she’s also a true leader

• stonathan slow burn! the fic will focus on jonathan and steve becoming friends and slowly falling in love. although nancy and jonathan will slowly break up, the fic will explore how nancy can handle herself without a man. steve harrington will also redeem himself after the awkward falling for nancy (im sorry this has to happen)

• repairing relationships! this mostly applies to nancy and mike’s relationship as it will help them grow as siblings

• DEATH! ANGST! STABBING OF EMOTIONS! this fic will have a lot of angst as several big name characters will bite the dust or be seriously injured

“I’m so hungry.” Robin said with a groan throwing her head back and Jonathan laughed.

“Didn’t you eat anything for lunch?” Jonathan asked smiling.

“Does iced latte count?” Robin asked with a smirk and Jonathan laughed again.

This was probably the first time the two were hanging together and Robin liked it a lot. Jonathan was easy to be around, he didn’t seem to judge anything that came out of Robin’s mouth. They chatted a little as they waited for their orders, Jonathan’s a cheeseburger and Robin’s a vegan burger. Soon enough Robin was devouring her burger as Jonathan started with his fries.

“So, why photography?” Robin asked taking a sip of her coke.

“Good opening question.” Jonathan first replied and then continued with a shrug. “I always liked taking pictures of people. It’s nice to freeze a moment, a frame.”

“That’s nice.” Robin said with a smile. “I kind of guessed that, you have zero pictures of yourself on your Insta.” She added pointedly.

“Yeah, I don’t like to be in pictures much.” He replied with another shrug.

Robin nodded and went back to eating. There were so many questions she wanted to ask to Jonathan, specifically about Nancy and about everything that happened between them but she couldn’t find the exact sentence to ask that without giving herself away.

“You have any pictures of high school Steve and Nancy that I can blackmail them with?” Robin asked with a smirk, trying to be subtle.

Jonathan didn’t laugh this time but put on a little smile.

“Well, Nancy always looked good in pictures and Steve…” he said and paused looking like was searching for the right words. “…he photographs good too.” He added after a few seconds looking down at his plate.

“Oh, I believe you about Nancy but I have great photos of Steve. Just tell me the next time the dingus annoys you and you can have the best blackmail material.” Robin said trying to cover up her part about Nancy with rambling about Steve.

This time Jonathan did a soft chuckle, not a big laugh but a laugh filled with something different that Robin couldn’t decipher because she was still thinking about how good Nancy looked in pictures.

“It’s okay, you can ask.” Jonathan said a few seconds later and Robin looked at him with a scowl and a panic she was trying to hide thinking he might have figured her little crush out. “I mean about me and Nancy.” Jonathan explained with a little smile. “A friend group is a delicate atmosphere it’s okay if you are curious.”

And if Robin wasn’t trying so hard to keep her feelings to herself, she would have bursted out laughing. Not that she didn’t like this friend group that formed over the past weeks, she actually liked it a lot and loved when the four of them were hanging together. But, the possibility of past relationships ruining their friendship wasn’t something that crossed her mind while she kept thinking about the ex relationships of her crush. It didn’t help that her best friend, her platonic soulmate so-to-say, was involved with Nancy in the past too.

“Yeah.” Robin mumbled and cleared her throat, then continued. “It’s just I was wondering why did you two break up? You don’t have to answer me if you don’t and I could ask Nance, she is my friend but I didn’t want to bother-

“Robin, Robin. It’s fine.” Jonathan said with a warm smile cutting her off. “I guess we broke up because of the long distance.” Jonathan continued and Robin’s face fell a little because that might mean there could be unresolved feelings. “But really the distance sped things up. I mean Nancy’s great, one of my best friends and I don’t regret anything but something felt missing.”

“Yeah, I understand.” Robin replied with a kind smile. “What about Nancy and Steve?” Robin then asked hesitantly.

And for the first time that night Jonathan’s face fell and Robin gave herself a mental slap. Maybe she stepped over a line, maybe Jonathan was lying when he talked about him and Nancy, maybe-

“Steve didn’t tell you?” Jonathan asked a little surprised and a little hurt.

“All I know is that Steve liked Nancy and Nancy chose you.” Robin replied once again hesitantly.

Jonathan scoffed and sighed. He took a big sip out of his beer.

“Yes, Steve liked her and I guess she did for some time too but he liked her more in the end.” Jonathan explained glancing around the table. “They went on a few dates, hooked up a few times. Steve messed it up and it turned out Nancy didn’t like him as much.���

“Oh.” Robin only offered as a reply.

So, best friends code or whatever, said that exes were off limits but since Steve and Nancy never dated that didn’t count, Robin thought or hoped. Then, she mentally slapped herself again because there was no way Nancy Wheeler could like her so she shouldn’t get caught up in useless crushes.

They finished their meals while chatting about other stuff, with Jonathan asking why Robin was studying sociology in return, with them discussing music and several shows. It didn’t take long for them to slip back to their comfortable conversation and Robin spent the night keeping the urge to ask more about Nancy under control.

Nancy’s POV

“You and Robin have been hanging out a lot lately.” Steve said totally unprompted and Nancy wished they were in the non-speaking part of the library. 

“Yeah, we are.” Nancy replied not being able to keep the smile off her face. “She’s pretty cool.” She added feeling her cheeks getting warm.

“She is.” Steve almost shouted and earned a few glares from around. “I think she likes you a lot.” He added with a smile. 

Nancy mind froze for a second which never happened. Robin liked her. Liked her. Then, she took in a deep breath to calm her brain down and realized that Steve meant it in a platonic way, like how Robin liked Steve. Better than nothing, Nancy thought especially because she didn’t know what to make of her emotions towards Robin and even if they weren’t platonic, she didn’t think a world existed where she could be with a girl. Her parents already had perfect matches in mind for her - and unfortunately that included Steve too.

“I like her a lot too.” Nancy replied brushing a hair strand behind her ear. “She’s really fun and smart. I feel like I can’t catch up with her sometimes.” She added, a little shy.

“You?” Steve asked surprised. “If you can’t catch up with her, then I’m doomed.” He added laughing. 

Nancy never liked it when Steve referred to himself as not smart even if she was confused about him getting into NYU but being a legacy kid got that for you.

“She keeps both of us around so we couldn’t be that bad.” Nancy replied with a smirk and Steve nodded with a smile. “How did you two meet?” Nancy asked as nonchalantly as possible. 

“We were both taking psychology 101 and had to do a project together.” Steve replied with a grin. “We did a presentation on ice cream’s effect on people’s happiness.” He added laughing.

“And what did you found out?” Nancy asked laughing too.

“It makes everybody fucking happy.” Steve said loud enough that he earned glares again.

“I remember the first time I met Robin.” Nancy found herself saying, her cheeks getting warm again. 

“Was it at my birthday?” Steve asked scratching head, clearly trying to remember.

“No, before that.” Nancy replied shyly. “In February, she came with you the weekend you came to visit Dustin after he broke his arm over the ice.” Nancy kept explaining shyly and Steve smiled at the memory. “When I brought Mike over, she was the one to open the door. I thought I was at the wrong house or Dustin had a sister I didn’t know about.” She continued and this time Steve laughed. 

“Right!” Steve said smacking himself on the forehead. “Robin asked a bunch about you after that.”

“She did?” Nancy exclaimed and she was the one to receive disapproving looks. 

They were bound to get kicked out of the library any time soon.

“Yeah, well she was really impressed by you.” Steve answered with a shrug, like it was the most normal sentence ever, like it didn’t send a million butterflies to Nancy’s stomach.

After that, Nancy nodded and smiled saying she needed to get back to her studying. Steve sighed and groaned and declared he probably needed too if he didn’t want to fail macroeconomics. They fell into a routine of silent studying again, except every few pages Nancy would open up Robin’s instagram and just scroll through the photos she already memorized. And when Jonathan’s new post appeared on her feed, she was very quick to like it and she spent good few minutes staring Robin’s blurry photo.
