Super proud of these guys! Always dedicated and devoted, they don’t let reasons and excuses keep them from training. Both have dealt with set backs and injuries but they show up and they put in the work. What health weight / fat loss looks like...⁣ ⁣ There is so much BS out there when it comes to weight and fat loss that distort people perceptions and expectations. ⁣ ⁣ Here is John’s scale weight & bodyfat progression over a 6 week period. He’s in his early 70s, lifts 3 times a week and swims 2-3 times a week. ⁣ ⁣ He’s losing around .5 to 1lb a week and roughly .3 to 5% of bodyfat. He’s not starving. He has established ranges for calories and protein. He is calorie and carb cycling as we found that appears to be optimal for him to continue loosing weight while preserving lean body mass. He’s also intermittent fasting twice per week as a part of this cycling plan.⁣ ⁣ John challenges himself in his workouts but is not destroyed every time he walks out the door. We progressively increase his weight training but in an undulating fashion so that he’s not constantly “slamming himself into a brick wall”⁣ ⁣ Want to be like John?...⁣ ⁣ 1. Track your food. Do this for at least a week before you start modifying too much.⁣ ⁣ 2. Dial in your protein, eliminate sugary drinks and minimize processed carbs. ⁣ ⁣ 3. Track some kind of metric (scale weight, bodyfat, measurements). It doesn’t have to be the most perfect method, just try to eliminate as many variables as possible (weight yourself with the same scale, at the same time, on the same day, under the same circumstances).⁣ ⁣ 4. Big moment for Susan! This is the first time we’re able to perform a kettlebell deadlift pain free, while creating good structure. ⁣ ⁣ It’s been a bit of a journey that’s taken us a little over a year. From someone who’s mostly done classes like Zumba and aerobics, she’s come a long way. We’ve been working on engaging her lats, glutes and core. Then integrating these into lifts like the deadlift as well as supporting her body in activities of daily living (ADLs).⁣ ⁣ We’ve programmed all kinds of variations leading her to this point; hip thrust, cable pull-through, landmind deadlifts, kettlebell Romanian deadlifts and finally...kettlebell deadlifting. ⁣ ⁣ Huge win! How to tuneup your KB swing⁣ 💪⁣ ⁣ Here are a few of my favorite drills to fine tune your kettlebell swing.⁣ ⁣ Rehab & performance guru @nikkihind of Rhiza Performance & Rehab, here in Kona, is working on her swing.⁣ ⁣ We want to: ⁣ 👉 Wedge or wind her deeper into the bottom of the swing so she can generate more power using her posterior chain (hamstrings and glutes), ⁣ ⁣ 👉 Fine tune the rhythm of the back swing or hike pass.⁣ ⁣ 👉 Sharpen the timing of the forward swing (extension of her ankles, knees & hips.)⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ The cable pull-through is the first drill we layered on. This provides a kinesthetic blueprint of how deep to wedge into the backswing. It also helps with improved timing of the forward swing.⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ We then played with a towel swing to dial in the rhythm or timing of the swing, specifically when to send the hips back.⁣ ⁣ 3️⃣ We worked on the timing of the forward swing by elevating the balls & toes on #sandbells to shift weight back into the heels, which throws off center of balance, forcing you to wind more into the backside. This makes it really awkward and noticeable to shoot the knees forward during the swing (scooping).⁣ ⁣ 💪 The depth and rhythm of her back swing has improved and there is more precision on the forward swing.⁣ Smoother & Sharper!
