THIS BOOK!!!! An absolutely wonderful Sleeping Beauty retelling, it deserves every single accolade I’ve seen online.
Toadling, my love, my darling, you are the quiet hero I’ve been needing in my life!

The sort-of-sequel to the excellent THE WICKED BARGAIN by Gabe Cole Novoa, this one focuses on the delightful Dami, a genderfluid demonio introduced in the previous book.
THE DIABLO’S CURSE tips our queer trio of characters headlong into a high-stakes hunt for a cursed pirate treasure with Dami’s return to humanity as the grand prize. Can be read on its own but I’d recommend reading both books for double the joy!

I really enjoyed this YA sci-fantasy. Giant flying serpents? Sky ships? Devastating secrets and family feuds? Good stuff. (Although I confess that in the team dynamics scenes I kept humming the theme to Total Drama Island, but hey! That works, too!)

A really solid start to Benedict Jacka’s new urban fantasy series! Really interesting world and main character. I love his Alex Verus books and Stephen Oakwood is a promising successor!

THIS BOOK!!!! So, so good! Great Japanese-inspired fantasy world and an amazing cast of characters. And no romance, for those who would rather not read that, but at the same time so much friendship love plus a nice examination of the complex nuanced love for a parent.
One of my top reads of 2024, easy! I absolutely recommend this feminist fairytale!

This one’s only really for Rothfuss fans; it takes knowing the basics of his world and characters. I’d read an earlier version of this in the Rogues anthology and was delighted to see it expanded into a novella! Bast is awesome!!!!!!!

A gorgeous sequel to A Strange and Stubborn Endurance, All the Hidden Paths is a feast of lush worldbuilding, intrigue, and pining (so much pining!). I absolutely adore this universe that Foz Meadows has created!

In a goblin market deep beneath Victorian London, indentured servant Deri attempts to bargain his way out of his contract when he finds himself in possession of a royal destiny. But when True Love comes his way, everything gets just that little more complicated…
I really enjoyed the world and characters in this! If fae bargains and trickery are your cup of tea, this may just be the book for you!

I have a story out in this brand new anthology! My own contribution (shameless plug!) takes a walk on the darker side of fae magic…
From the blurb: FEMMES FAE-TALES
Fabulous and feisty
Sensuous and sexy
dangerous and daring.
Nine original stories.
Nine powerful characters.

I took a break from my usual fantasy to read this wonderful contemporary YA…
Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman is a beautiful dive into grief and the aftermath of death, as well as an excellent portrayal of aro-ace identity. Gorgeous!

So good! WITCH KING by Martha Wells.
This one’s for fantasy fans who like rich and complex worldbuilding. Kai is such a great main character, and Wells does a wonderful job of playing with both gender and gender roles. Fantastic!
(Also, love me a book that serves up both a map and a character list!)
