Tbh, after YEARS of drawing only white and/or Japanise-like characters, drawing clones feels like an euphoria. Because they're BIG and THICK and so fucking cool that I'm loosing my mind. I love drawing them so much that I can't even describe it in words (it's the feeling when you kinda want to grab a pillow with your teeth and tear it apart like a dog while sitting on the floor and growling.. iykyk..)

I love how they look. I love THEIR NOSES *screams* FUCKING HELL LOOK AT THEM THEY'VE SO PRETTY AGGHAGHAHGAAAAAA

Nah I felt the same way! I have a hard time rewatching any of his Rebels era because it doesn’t feel like the same character at all!!

It’s been years since I’ve watched it but I remember feeling like it was campy and that Rex was cheap comic relief at times.

Altho The Last Battle is one of the few episodes that I feel did him some justice

I'm know I'm 10 years too late to the discourse, but I'm rewatching Rebels with my husband (who is seeing it for the first time), and I never noticed how OOC Rex is. I can't get over it. Of course I know Rex's appearance in Rebels came before season 7 of Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, but even still...

Someone tell me if I'm overthinking it?

New completely random SW headcanon: Hardcase’s “we can sneak in~” is now an inside joke between him, Fives, and Jesse, and it gets Fives in fucking hysterics whenever he hears it. And it’s one of those like, really stupid inside jokes where it just gets whispered whenever the room goes quiet and suddenly everyone who’s in on it is dying laughing. Like I’m imagining the three of them on some kind of stealth mission and they start muttering “we can sneak in~” to each other and giggling meanwhile Rex is like “can the three of you shut up and take this seriously for FIVE MINUTES”. Unfortunately Anakin also thinks it’s funny, even if he has barely any idea what the fuck it even means, so he’s no help.

Also yes Hardcase gets to live in this au because I said so.

like this sums up my thoughts on the mid seasons of tcw. They really couldn’t decide if Rex was a background character or main character. Umbara he’s center stage and it makes you think they’re gonna go somewhere with it!!

Then he’s totally side lined in Kadavo… An arc about slavery when he’s literally a slave. There could’ve been so many takes especially right after Krell. Dude is hardcore questioning the point of everything, he’s probably got some deep anger and fucked up emotions. And Anakin and Ahsoka weren’t there so that’s gotta impact his relationship with them in some meaningful way.

Not to mention at the beginning of the Kadavo arc on Kiros the 212th and 501st are working together right after they KILLED each other on Umbara!! Boil is there!! Which implies he was also on umbara since waxer was too…

Then we get season 5 where Rex is pretty much a crumb, and we don’t really see him or the 501st react to losing their commander. It’s like they had all this momentum and then just… stopped.

Rex's Biggest Regret

So I've been thinking about this scene right here:

I always found it odd that Rex would mention Hevy in that list despite only knowing him for such a short amount of time. Especially when you think of Hardcase who we know has fought beside him for a long time or Tup who died right before Fives. That is until I remembered what happened in the episode Rookies when Rex goes:

And later in the episode we see this:

And then it shows Rex leaving first because "I'm always first."

And we all know how that episode ends.

Now move ahead to Plan of Dissent and what do we see?

Rex is in the back. He probably blamed himself for Hevy's death and felt guilty for being the first one out not even realizing Hevy wasn't with them. He was the one to give Hevy the job to fix the remote. He never stopped to check if Hevy was behind them until it was to late. He mentions Hevy because he was probably Rex's biggest regret. He was a shiny who just saw real combat for the first time. Rex probably spent nights lying awake thinking of how Hevy's death could have been avoided. Of what he could have done different. It's something he probably never lets himself forget.
