I want to be successful
“ Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it” Education, success, and making something out of my life has always been externally big to me! I refuse to be idle or lethargic and make nothing out of myself when I know have the potential to do and be anything! with the help and grace of god
Being successful is important to me! No matter what your individual definition of success may be, finding it can often be a challenge. Whether its a career success, monetary success or something in between, most people have certain level of accomplishments that they want to reach in their lives. However, many fail to reach that magical level of success and have no idea why. The good news is, there are few things that every person can do differently to change their current course of action and find the success that they deserve.
1. Stop looking for a perfect strategy
2. Stop seeing problems, start seeing opportunities
3. Stop the information overload
4. Stop focusing so much on entertainment
5. Stop looking at the short term.
Sometimes I think when you determine “ success” you try to break it done in ways that best fits you;
passion, everything you do make it driven through passion
Work, its all about hard work, put your nose in something and get damn good at it practice, practice, practice.
focus, focus yourself on one thing at a time
push yourself physically, mentally you’ve got to push, you’ve got to push through shyness and self-doubt
serve, give back serve others something of value.
persistence is the number one reason for our success, you’ve got to persist through failure crap!

Solidarity: A Necessity
Yes it is true that each human requires the company of another whether that is a significant other, a friend or maybe even a pet but it is also true that we all need our space! Maybe it is just me, but I can not deal with a person being in my face for too long. I need to go into another room and just be in solitude.
Since being home from college for the summer it has been a little hard at times trying to keep my sanity... As if I almost forgot what it feels like to be nagged at by my parents. I’m sure that is a major part of the reason I decided to go from Minnesota all the way to Virginia. I never thought I would value being alone as much as I do now. It gives me time to recoup and gather my thoughts. It gives me time to plan out and prepare for the week ahead of me. It also gives me time to think about my future which I am very excited and anxious about. This time by myself is especially important to me now because I know how stressed I will be come the end of August when school starts back up again. With that being said..... PLEASE leave me alone, thx ;) <3 (for a little while at least lol)

Heartbreak isn’t really a bad thing...
HEARTBREAK. It happens to all of us and can happen in different way whether that is with a significant other, friends or even family. Sometimes it is all three. People like to act like they don’t get hurt but in reality we all do! When you consider someone a confidant it can definitely take a toll on you when you lose them. Like you don’t have anybody else that you can put your trust in and it makes you not want to put your trust in anyone else. Whether people like to admit it or not you really had a love for this person and they played a significant role in your life! But not every person is meant to stay in your life forever. I have come to believe that when someone exits your life that that is how it is meant to be. They have served their purpose and it is time for you to cry it out, accept, move on and continue to grow. As Madea said “If someone wants to walk out of your life, LET THEM GO.”
With that being said, I am growing! I am focusing on me, my family and strengthening my faith. That is all that is guaranteed in my life so I need to learn to cherish it. I have many, many things I would like to accomplish and it is not going to get done by dwelling on incidents that happened in the past. I just believe all that happens in my life happens for a reason, a good reason. Those who are not in my life anymore are no longer adding beneficial value sooo it is what it is! Even though it does hurt, I have trust in the higher power that it is for the betterment of me and my life.

Rape Culture? Why is that even a thing?
“Women shouldn’t allow themselves to be sexually assaulted or sexually harassed.” After reading that you would probably think to your self : what the f*#k! Yeah, same here. You also wouldn’t think that a president of a university would say such a thing that is so insensitive and just straight up wrong. Especially when this president is a man and can not even speak upon what women should and shouldn’t do. How does one not “allow themselves to be sexually harassed or assaulted anyway? Do I need to be dressed a certain way? Do I need to wear skirts down to my ankles and turtle necks up to my chin? Is he implying that it’s our fault that young women not only on colleges campuses but all over the world are getting harassed? I just find it interesting how men tell us what we should do with our bodies when they don’t even know the half! I’d like to see a man live in a woman’s body for a day.

Rape culture is defined as: A society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse. Why is this a thing, like in real life? I don’t understand why this is an actual definable term! Rape is often justified by saying that a woman was asking for it or a man should’ve stopped it from happening (because men get raped too). This act of invading someone’s private space without consent should never be justified. It is honestly a shame that we live in a world like we do where these criminal acts are accepted and brushed off. It is heart breaking that people have to go through these traumatic experiences and only a small percentages of stories are heard. Even a smaller percentage get justice.

HBCU...? PWI...? Who cares.
I really thought that people in this day and age could learn how to uplift each other instead of competing against one another. Black people in particular. There has been this debate between Historically Black Colleges/Universities and Predominately White Institutions for a while now. And it’s kinda getting annoying... Actually it is very annoying. I just think to myself, why cant people be happy for other people no matter what path they choose in regards of higher education? We’re all “grown” right?? From my perspective as an HBCU student, I just really feel that we are very prideful in our institutions. We are very proud of who we are and that we get to learn things about our culture that we would have never known hadn’t we gone to a HBCU. Not saying that we are all innocent though. Some people do take it too far by throwing shade at Black students who attend these mostly white schools. HBCUs are not for everybody and just because you are of African decent does not mean you are obligated to attend an HBCU! Being that these schools are very expensive, do not get as much funding from the government, and as a result of not being funded they do not give out as many merit based scholarships it is harder for people to afford these schools. However some people say that HBCUs are not up to par with these white institutions simply because they are HBCUs. That can be very discouraging and create this stigma around HBCUs which keeps this argument going. In the end Black people just need to stick together, uplift and empower each other. It does not matter if you go to a PWI, HBCU, Technical college or community college. Just go get your degree and prosper.

1 time for the birthday chick! 2 times for the birthday chick!!!!!!

It’s my birthday!!! I can’t believe I am 19, I feel like that is really old lol D: But anyway, I really feel that birthdays should be spent reflecting on the year before and learning from the mistakes that were made. There were a few mistakes in year 18, but thankfully I have learned from them and it has made me a better person. Over the course of this year I learned to:
1.CUT PEOPLE OFF. Especially when they weighing you down and in no way are a benefit in your life
2. Know it’s okay to put myself before others sometimes. That is really where my importance of self love came from. You gotta make sure you’re good before you make sure the next person is good!
3. Dedicate myself more to my faith. From the bottom of my heart I really do believe that without Christ nothing is possible and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! When you just trust in Him, you no longer have to deal with the shenanigans and as a result, your morals and standards rise.
Along with the things I have done wrong and learned from, I also accomplished many things! I Graduated from high school with honors and received three scholarships. I got into my #1 choice of higher education (Hampton University). I completed my first semester of college with all A’s and one B+ which equals out to a 3.7 GPA. I also managed to get an internship at one of the major corporations in Minnesota. Now year 19 is the year of self love, positivity and growth!

Over the past few days H&M has received a lot of back lash regarding an item on their website. Going viral on Twitter and spilling over to Instagram, it has gained attention from celebrities such as The Weeknd and Diddy. The Weeknd has announced that he will no longer be working with H&M and it has been rumored that Diddy was offering this young boy a $1 Million contract with Sean John. In the midst of all this controversy, people may be thinking “where is this boy’s mother?!” Well looks like this story has a plot twist. She doesn’t seem to care one bit! She lets the people know that they need to get over it and “stop crying wolf.” So, are we really overreacting? Or is the check too good for her to complain? The world may never know...

Magic Monday: Oprah gives us hope that a new day is on the horizon
This woman that we all know and love is all that and more! As Oprah Winfrey accepts the Cecile B. de Mille award at the 2018 Golden Globes, she focuses on women telling their truth. The Me Too movement had been a very prominent one toward the end of 2017 and allowed many women to share their truth. It is saddening to realize the power that men seemed to have over women to the point where they could do anything they wanted and could get away with it. For so many years our society has put men at a superior level but our girl Oprah lets them know that their time is up!
“Maintain hope for a brighter tomorrow morning even during our darkest nights.” This quote really stuck out to me. I really felt this in my heart and soul, child!! This is something that is very important to keep in mind simply because life is not perfect. Curveballs will be thrown your way! Some curveballs may be curvier than others but that is oookaaayyyy. Just trust the process. Know that your work will not go to waste. Oprah Winfrey serves as a role model for plenty of young black girls out there in the world (me). She lets them know not only to speak their truth, but that anything is possible no matter what obstacles put in place to stop you from reaching your dreams. Anyone can do anything they set their mind to! Whatever you do, do not give up. It’s not going to be easy, and there are going to be some dark nights... Some really dark nights. But in the words of Ms. Winfrey, just know a new day is on the horizon. ;)
