God uses the situations that often bury us in a dark place so we can learn to rise above our circumstances and discover our true strength and power to overcome. Even this simple acknowledgment starts to dig our way out of whatever hole we have been planted in. When we intend to use tragedy to transform our lives, we will be amazed at how powerfully we shoot up into our potential. All it takes is a shift in perception. Affirm: I haven’t been buried. I have been planted. It’s time to grow into the true purpose I was created for. God is the unending supply of power that grows us into tall, beaming blossoms after we think we have withered and died. That is the moment we must accept the truth: we have really been born. Tragedy births us into the potential we never would have found had we only seen perpetual blue skies. …….{new blog post}……. Eight months ago I surrendered to newfound awareness and accepted that I needed help for my eating disorder and codependency. The onion continues to unravel control issues, fear of abandonment, perfectionism, and impulsivity to name a few.

This quote perfectly encapsulates my journey thus far. I decided to break my silence so my story of recovery can reach those who are still breathing under water.

I know what it feels like to hold your breath under the weight of every hurt that weighs you down—that hurt and those habits that become temporary life savers by numbing the pain. The weight of the pain feels like it can swallow you whole.

It seems like there is no way to reach the surface and begin to breath in life-giving air; this is exactly what our fear and addiction wants us to think. It needs us to believe that we cannot survive without it because we don’t know who we are without it. We don’t know how to do life without it.

Before I could change by surrendering to the recovery process, I had to encounter enough pain and the destructive ways it manifested in my life. Only then could I face the unknown.

Growth only happens when we accept that we need to change. I couldn’t accept that I needed help until I became aware of the impact my eating disorder and other addictive behaviors had on my life and wellbeing.

It often takes innumerable amounts of suffering to gain the awareness that our addiction or other hangup has become unmanageable.

My recovery revealed that God is the everlasting life-saver; He comes to rescue us from every hurt that keeps us captive and every habit we use to numb the hurt.

When times get tough and your faith begins to dip, focus on the positive track record in your life. As you look at the moments God came through in your time of need, you’ll boost your current level of faith. The collected gifts of God’s grace in your life provide the testimony that keeps you positive when you have no reason to be on the surface. Just because what you see appears grim doesn’t mean what is in the unseen isn’t spectacular. Because it is. God is working behind the scenes for your greatest good, but He needs your faithful perseverance and positivity to see this situation through. Do not rely on what you see; focus on what is possible. With God there are infinite possibilities. Choose to believe in God’s power to make miracles happen. Without your steadfast faith, inspired action and trust, the miracles that are meant for you remain waiting in the wings. God is more than willing to reveal the goodness in store for you as long as you understand that you are worth it, anything is possible and you have the power to welcome unlimited good into your life at a moment’s notice. Repeat this affirmative prayer throughout the day: I open my arms to receive God’s goodness and love. I am willing to be the co-creator of my dreams by remaining positive, expectant and faithful. I do what I can each day and I give the rest to God. I am worthy of the good that is coming to me now. There is nothing wrong with you. The discomfort you feel—that’s the Divine unraveling of everything that stands between you and God (who is pure, unconditional love).
