Stand names
There’s something I’ve been seeing a lot of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure fans talk about when it comes to the Jojolion Stand names, specifically Born This Way and California King Bed.
“I never thought Araki would use modern artists/songs for Stands!” or “Uh oh! Araki is running out of ideas for Stand names!”
And all I gotta say to that is, he’s always done that and no he’s not, respectively.
Yes, Araki is known for picking classic rock songs, or bands from the 60s, 70s, and 80s for the Stand names, but he’s always thrown modern stuff in the mix too. It’s just the songs that were modern at the time aren’t modern now.
For example, Diamond is Unbreakable came out in 1992 and ended in 1995. During that time frame, the albums Aqua and Love Deluxe had come out not long after the manga debuted. The bands Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, and Boyz II Men, while debuting before 1992, were extremely popular at the time. The group Enigma and the album Achtung Baby were also relatively new when DIU came out. This was mixed with all the references to classic rock bands like Queen and Pink Floyd. I doubt people thought Araki was running out of ideas back when it came out. I could list more examples if y’all asked me to, but I’ll leave it at that for now.
Hirohiko Araki has incredibly diverse taste in music, you guys. It’ll take me a while to find the video, but there is an interview where he shows off his CD collection and it is MASSIVE. For that reason, I don’t think Araki will run out of bands, artists, songs, and albums to choose from. I mean, how can we say he’s run out of ideas when we haven’t seen Stands named after Nirvana, Gorillaz, Radiohead, Alice in Chains, System of the Down, or Police songs, for example?

I haven’t written on here in two months and SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS
I have been procrastinating on writing here. Not that I haven’t been writing. I actually finally completed the first chapter of this SU fanfic I’ve been writing for almost a year! But I need to start writing something here, no matter how short. Let’s hope I can keep it up. Y’all will see a real post here in a few minutes.

Katie Watches Movies
Sorry this post is late...like a week late. Anyway, as I said before, I haven’t seen a lot of classic movies; this summer, I’m going to change that. I’ll be doing recent movies on here too normally, but the recent movie I watched I had a lot of thoughts on, so that’ll be posted tomorrow. Here are the classics I watched though:
Clueless: A lot of people call Clueless the Mean Girls of the 90s, and while that’s not 100% accurate to me, it’s definitely like Mean Girls in that it’s very funny and quotable. Cher is a really cool character who despite falling into the Valley Girl stereotype, is still really likable and isn’t a bad person at all unlike a lot of characters in this archetype. Though I think the reason she’s so likable is because of Alicia Silverstone’s acting. She did a wonderful job and made me wish she was still acting regularly because she’s really talented. I also loved Tai, played by the late great Brittany Murphy. It’s roles like these that make me miss her even more because she was so great at character voices and was always a joy to watch. The only major problem I have with this movie is the ending with all of its creepy incest. I know they’re not technically related and it was probably in the original book this movie is loosely based on, but it’s still off-putting. Especially in this setting. Still recommended though.
Jurassic Park: So, this is one I technically have seen before. I saw it when I was about 8 years old, but I stopped watching at the point where a guy gets eaten by the T-Rex. It scared me so bad, it took me 12 years to finish watching it. Now that I finally finished it, I gotta say, the scariest thing about this movie is just how well the special effects hold up. Like holy shit, this movie came out a little over 20 years ago and it looks more realistic than a lot of stuff coming out now! Then again, Jurassic Park had a pretty huge budget, and back when it came out, director Steven Spielberg was a guaranteed money maker. The movie itself is really good too, of course. I found some of the characters a little annoying, particularly Jeff Goldblum’s character, but they were fine. The action scenes in Jurassic Park are the true highlight of the film and they deliver; they’re intense and well choreographed. The score is also beautiful, but that’s John Williams for you. Don’t know what else there is to say. I can see why it’s considered a classic.Â
The Hunchback of Notre Dame: This was one of the Disney movies I didn’t get to watch as a kid. I saw commercials for it on my old VHS’s and I asked my parents to get it, but they kept telling me it was too sad. As I grew older, I discovered the film had a huge fan following because Hunchback was so unlike a lot of other Disney films because it was so dark. And boy, were they right. It’s hard to believe Disney made an adaptation of such a depressing and adult book, dumbed it down for kids, and still managed to make it one of the darkest films in the canon. Seriously, the entire climax of the movie was all because the corrupt archdeacon Frollo had a raging boner that he didn’t want to have, I’m not even joking. But I’m really oversimplifying things honestly. Judge Frollo is such a complex and interesting villain, he’s seriously right up there with Maleficent on the best Disney villain list. I really loved Esmeralda too. She’s really cool to me because she’s such a genuinely kind soul, but also doesn’t take any shit from people. She stands up for herself. Also, hot damn, she’s such a babe. I know she’s probably not the best representation of Rromani people, but I imagine she’s leaps and bounds better than a lot of other portrayals, or even how people in real life sadly see them as. Hunchback is also absolutely gorgeous looking and sounding; certainly one of the best films of the Disney Renaissance. I’ll need to rewatch it a few times to have my opinion really set in stone, but as it stands now, it is not as good as The Lion King, but just as good as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Mulan.
Heathers: Similar to Clueless, this film is said to be the Mean Girls of the 80s. I went into this movie expecting to like it, though I did think the premise sounded pretty dark for a high school movie, and probably something that wouldn’t get made today. I was not expecting Heathers to become one of my favorite films ever, but here we are. I seriously loved this movie so much, I might have to write more about it at a later date. What’s confusing to me though is I can’t pin point exactly why I love it as much as I do. Could it be the dark humor and numerous quotable lines? That’s definitely part of it. The 80s aesthetics? Possibly. Is it the main character, Veronica Sawyer, played by living perfection, Winona Ryder? That’s a HUGE part of it, for sure. The Heathers themselves? YES. The surprisingly uplifting ending despite the otherwise dark and cynical plot? Well, that and the fact that this film suddenly turns into a tense action movie for ten minutes. It made me feel like Veronica Sawyer was one of cinema’s greatest girl badasses. That’s a basic summary of things I love about it, but I still can’t figure out why I love it exactly. I need to rewatch it a few more times(I’ve already watched it thrice lol)and really analyze it. Maybe it’s just super well written? The trio of movies about mean high school girls are all well written, but in my opinion, Heathers is better than both of them. Heathers has its flaws of course, but I’ll discuss them on a later date, when I talk about the film on its own. But rest assured that this film is amazing despite them. The musical version of Heathers is also really really amazing and I highly recommend it. Beetlejuice: This was a really good one too! In fact, in a strange way, it was cute. The two ghosts parents bonding with Lydia is just really charming. Lydia herself is also really cute and likable, but then again, it’s Winona Ryder, what do you expect? I was surprised by how funny it was too; particularly the Banana Boat scene. However, the funny parts surprisingly didn’t come from this movie’s namesake. Am I the only one who didn’t like Beetlejuice himself? He’s just kinda creepy and pervy. Michael Keaton did a great job playing him though, but I still don’t like the character. You can tell this was one of Tim Burton’s earliest films. While it does have a lot of aesthetic design choices that would show up in his later movies, it still doesn’t scream the Tim Burton aesthetic to me quite yet. Going back to the Banana Boat scene, I also really like the use of Harry Belafonte’s music, not only in this scene, but at the end of the film where Jump in the Line plays. The song, along with Lydia’s adorable dancing, really make this ending to me. That and Beetlejuice getting his comeuppance of course. Also, can I just say I’m absolutely shocked this film is rated PG? Not because it’d be too scary or suggestive for a little kid(though one could certainly make that argument), but the F-bomb is literally dropped. I would understand if this film came out before the PG-13 rating was invented, but this came out a few years after it was introduced. PG-13′s can usually have at least one fuck, but PG’s are suppose to have zero fucks. What I’m saying is Beetlejuice should have at least gotten a PG-13. Not that a kid couldn’t handle hearing the F word, but I’d just like the ratings system to be consistent. I went off on a bit of a tangent lol. This movie is real good tho, go see it.

Winona Ryder deserved better
Winona Ryder is becoming one of my absolute favorite actresses. Her acting chops are incredible, from when she was playing Lydia in Beetlejuice to Joyce in Strange Things. Her performances always make me feel something, whether its joy and sorrow. Not to mention the fact that she’s gorgeous and adorable, and seems to be an incredibly nice person unlike many other celebrities. However, as much as I love Winona Ryder with all my heart, she’s not perfect.
In 2001, she stole $5500 worth of clothing and was convicted of felony shoplifting(though it was later changed to a misdemeanor). What she did was indisputably wrong, of course, but Ryder realized this. She clearly regrets what she did and has served her time doing community service. Also, she was going through a lot of mental health issues at the time. Not that that excuses what she did, but it makes what she did more understandable. The point is, Winona Ryder is human. She did something bad, but has owned up to her mistake.
That being said though, why did this almost ruin her career? She’s fine now; Stranger Things seems to have reignited her fame, but why did she lose potential film roles over shoplifting?
Why is it that pedophiles like Woody Allen and rapists like Roman Polanski do these horrible, life in prison worthy crimes, and continue to have successful careers, while Winona Ryder’s reputation was completely ruined for years because she stole clothes? Or Justin Bieber. He’s shoplifted too and he does get charged for it of course, but he’s still doing fine in the music business. And yet when Winona Ryder did it, it was somehow unforgivable??
I guess this doesn’t really matter anymore since Winona Ryder has gotten her much deserved love back, but I still think about this a lot.

Pun of the day (also quick update)
I have a lot of drafts for things I want to write about here. I need more time to write them all and get my ideas organized. The stuff currently in my drafts are rants about fandom culture and 90s kids, as well as a review/comparison of FMA 03 and Brotherhood, and a review of Stranger Things season one. I don’t know when all of these things will be posted, but hopefully they aren’t too far off.
For now, here’s a stupid pun I came up with today:Â
What do you call Jesus Christ spitting on you? Salivation!

Summer of Movies
Those of you following me know that I bingewatch TV shows a lot. Now that I’m on summer vacation, I can finally get back to doing that. However, something else has come to my attention: I have not seen many classic films.
What made me really start to notice this is this Youtube series I watch called Tamara’s Never Seen, where a girl named Tamara watches a bunch of movies that many people would call must see classics or films that if you haven’t watched them, you either “didn’t have a childhood” or “are living under a rock”, but she somehow hasn’t seen yet. Many people think this series is fake due to the baffling number of classics she hasn’t seen, like it’s impossible for someone to be that sheltered, right?
Well, in her defense, I also haven’t seen many films. In fact, a lot of films she hadn’t seen, I haven’t seen either. Just to give y’all an idea of how behind on movies I am, here’s a list of some of the most notable films I haven’t seen:
The Indiana Jones series, the James Bond series, the Harry Potter films, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Back to the Future trilogy, the first two Alien movies, the first two Terminator movies, Rocky, Beetlejuice, Sound of Music, Blade Runner, Nightmare on Elm Street, Moulin Rouge, The Breakfast Club, Titanic, Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Kill Bill, The Neverending Story, Jaws, Gremlins, Goonies, or the most recent Star Wars films.
And that’s just to name a few. Not even joking, I watched Jurassic Park, Heathers, Clueless, and Hunchback of Notre Dame for the first time recently (you’ll know my opinions on these films next week, along with a few extras that I watch over the weekend). Starting next Monday, recent movie watches will also be included with the TV shows I’m currently watching.
So, it’s clear I have a lot of catching up to do, especially considering I hope to one day make my own films and TV shows. If any of you have recommendations, let me know and I’ll add them to my to-watch list!

Hypocritical neurotypicals: part 2
This is something I’ve felt like venting about for a while. I don’t know if this is a me thing or an autism thing, but there’s something else I’ve noticed.
My old therapist and my parents both used to emphasize how important it is to learn how to read facial expressions and body language. That way, it’ll be easier to tell how a person is feeling. And I 100% agree with that. Before I went to therapy, it was very hard for me to tell when someone wasn’t interested in what I was talking about, or when they were sad or angry. It’s easier for me to tell now. Of course, there are times where it’s harder for me to tell, but I have a few supportive friends who let me know how they’re feeling if I get confused.
That being said, I also have friends who are neurotypical that know I’m autistic, but whenever it’s clear I’m uncomfortable or overwhelmed, it’s like I’m not even there! Like if I’m upset or sad or angry, I try to make it as obvious as fucking possible that I’m not feeling good and they don’t even fucking notice!
Like today, I was driving home with two friends who know I’m autistic(I initially thought it was just one friend, but another one joined us at the last minute...I hate last minute plans)and they were blasting their music super loud. I was getting a little overstimulated, so I politely asked them to turn it down. They did at first, but then they turned it back up again when an even louder song came on. At that point, I went nonverbal, but I tried to make it so my facial expressions and body language made it obvious I wasn’t feeling particularly good. Sad facial expressions, arms wrapped around my body, not at all talkative(which I couldn’t help, I was so overstimulated, I went nonverbal).
How did they react? They didn’t react at all! They were singing along to their music loudly and talking loudly and their music was loud. It was like there were only two people in the car. I was completely ignored. They didn’t even seem to notice my sad vocal tone when I left them. Granted, they might have actually noticed and talked about it on the drive away from my house, but as far as I can tell, they didn’t notice I was completely miserable. But yeah, basically, if we’re suppose to read facial expressions/body languages/vocal tones to tell how a person is feeling, why can’t they do the same for us? It’s another thing my therapist and family say isn’t socially polite, but they do it anyway.
Has anyone else in the autism community experienced this sorta thing, or is that just me?

I’ve been so fucking bad, you guys
I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since I’ve written here. I’’ve just been so busy lately. It almost seems like I won’t be able to regularly write again until summer break starts. I’ll try to be a little more frequent now though, to whoever still cares about this blog

For those of you trying to figure yourself out
For the longest time, I thought I had myself figured out. I thought I was pansexual. I love all genders, but lean more towards girls. And that’s still basically true now. But last night, I thought of something that made me rethink everything. In my life, I’ve had many crushes and I’ve dated three people. However, in hindsight, I was really only ever truly in love with one person(and unfortunately, she was abusive),but everyone else was either someone I clicked with, someone I was always happy to see, someone I found really attractive, or some combination of the three. Then I realized something; you can think all of those things about a person and still think of them platonically. It feels like all of these people I thought I was smitten for were actually just me loving my friends to the point of wanting to kiss them platonically.
I started thinking, am I asexual? Is that why I’ve never really truly been attracted to someone rather than just thinking someone is attractive? Then why do I fantasize about people sometimes? What am I?
So while I’m still calling myself pansexual, I am currently questioning as well. For all I know, I might just be a panromantic ace. Who knows when I’ll figure it out, but I know I still have plenty of time. It’s gonna be a while for me to explore this shit since I’m a hopeless romantic who wants to only date that special someone, wherever she/he/they are but maybe that day will be sooner than I thought. Or maybe I’ll be able to casually date someday. Who knows when I’ll find out, but maybe it’s not so bad I don’t know yet.
What I’m trying to say is...if you know exactly what your sexuality/gender/whatever is right now, that’s awesome! But if you don’t know what you are yet and haven’t figured anything out, that’s still okay! There’s nothing wrong with questioning your sexuality or gender. Some people call themselves bi before realizing they’re gay, or vice versa. Some people call themselves genderfluid before realizing they’re a trans girl or trans guy, or vice versa. Whatever the case may be, you have plenty of time to figure out who you are. And even when you think you’re certain, one day you might make a new discovery about yourself. Even when you think you’re done, you’re never truly finished exploring. So get out there and search yourself and take all the time you need.

That Face™ needs to die
I made a stupid little post on my main blog earlier this morning on That Face ™ , which is a face white people make either to acknowledge another person(in a really fucking awkward way, even speaking as a white person), or more often than not, expressing displeasure in someone or something. I’ve seen this face most often when you tell a white person in the South that you support BLM, support gay rights, think transgender people deserve to pee where they please, think immigrants should be allowed over here, or that Muslims aren’t all violent and the ones that live in America are, in fact, American. I’ve also been told by black friends that it’s a face white people make when they pass by a black person. Even I make this face apparently, and this gives me tons of reasons to force myself to not make it ever again.
Not just because it’s a face that represents hatred, but because it’s just an awkward and ugly face. It seriously looks like the face a scat fetishist would make if they shit themselves and got a weird enjoyment out of it. I just...HATE it. Petition to stop people from making That Face ™ #ThatFaceTM

Do you ever suddenly remember a movie exists and question why it exists?
I just remembered Doogal was a thing. It’s an American dub of a British animated movie based on a British dub of a French animated series that was never released in the States to begin with. Given that history...seriously, why did this happen? I could honestly go on about how bad this movie is...

WELP
Cartoon Network trolled us. They played us like a goddamned fiddle. We probably should have seen that coming honestly, but damn, I was really hoping for an actual new gem. Oh well, it was still a cute episode. Let’s hope the next one is better.

Found out a great thing today
Today I hung out with two old friends of mine from high school. Me and one of my friends, let’s call them A, both share a really horrible, abusive ex, let’s call her H, who burned us hard. Since I don’t see this ex around very often, it’s easier for me to ignore her, but A sees H around at conventions sometimes. For the most part, H is easy to avoid, but at a recent con, from what I’m told, H started harassing A and one of their friends. It apparently got so bad that A punched H in the face and didn’t get in trouble because it was in self-defense.
That seriously makes me so happy and so proud of A, standing up against both their and my abuser. And now I finally feel some serious closure on that mess with H because karma came.
