This time last year the invisible enemy, COVID-19, was causing havoc and filling our hospitals to over their capacities with very high figures for cases and deaths. A year's gone by and we've seen promise after the majority of us have taken the 2 vaccine doses, but now with this new COVID variant the nation needs to continue to pull together by following social distancing measures and take the booster jab. These times may seem a bit grim again but I believe the world is in a much better place compared to last year.

My personal recollections highlight the importance of the essential, unique and privileged role community nurses play in caring for a vulnerable and, at times, frightened population in their own homes when our frontline was the patients' front door. We have been essential to recover those discharged from hospital and those managing long term conditions in order to reduce the number of admissions for the severely strained hospitals to face.

Well, 2020 was a year that most of us won't forget. Many deaths have sadly occurred and there's been millions infected with the invisible enemy, COVID-19, which has filled our hospitals to over their capacities.

Despite this, we've seen the nation pulling together, with the majority doing their bit, with supporting one another and adhering to the social distancing measures, in hope of reducing the numbers of Covid cases. We look ahead to the light at the end of the tunnel, with the vaccines continuing to roll out across the UK in 2021! 🙏

It had been a memorable year for me personally, completing my first year as a qualified nurse back in March. And for much of 2020, I've also ended up writing a diary of reflections, based on my experiences as a community nurse, as well as national events that have occurred. I hope that whoever may read it in the future will feel the same mixture of emotions that me and other NHS staff have experienced. From laughter, to sorrow, to pride. Wearing PPE from patient to patient within the frontline. For me and my team, this has been outside of the clinical, hospital environments.

This book is nonfiction and written as a memoir about the time when I applied to work at an American summer camp. It provides an understanding into the process of being recruited as a summer camp staff member.

The book also provides an account of that new fascinating experience for me. It developed a range of personal skills and qualities within me. And it gives an insight into some compelling situations that occurred during this summer experience, as well as hilarious antics from campers and staff.

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: It was in September 2014, when George began his quest of spending the following summer in America. He's hoping to work at a summer camp—a place of unfamiliarity, with limited access to social media and with numerous kids to supervise. This memoir reveals the challenging journey for the Englishman in his pursuit of being welcomed on board by a summer camp director.
