Sorry for my finger. Reading the Chain of Memories manga, and it makes for a nice bedtime story, doesn’t it? Which got me to thinking about what kind of stories Maya might’ve told Kai when he was little.

Bad idea.

“I’m the one telling it and I say it is.”

“Nu-uh! Real stories got knights and dragons and heroes and stuff! This just has me!”

“Oh good, you’re catching on. Do you want to hear this or not?”

“No. I want a real story, like the ones uncle Sora tells me. I wanna know about Neverland and that whale and pirates! …Can the whale eat the pirates?”

“….Once upon a time, the little boy that refused to brush his teeth every night and lied to his mother about it was eaten by the Cavity Monster. The end.”

“HEY.”

“Tough luck, short stuff. Sweet dreams~”

I had an idea! Okay, I always have ideas, I just have issues writing them down. So I was thinking about that Snapshots chapter I did where 'Jem had one of her nightmares about the Heartless and woke Kai up, and my plan to show one of his. Never got around to it.

Ordinarily, if Kai has a nightmare and actually lets himself seek out comfort for it, the first person he'll go to is 'Jem. They have shared experiences with this stuff, and he's comfortable being vulnerable around her. If she wasn't available for some reason, next option is Eli. If not him, then maybe, depending on the nightmare, Ronan. His kid brother has his own trauma, and Kai doesn't want to wake something up just because he needed reassurance.

So if for some reason none of them are home, who's left?

Soren.

Yeah.

His brother's boyfriend, who, while a punk that he's finally gotten used to (and he guesses is family now), is not exactly anywhere on the list of people he wants to talk about his nightmares with.

The alternative is very little to no sleep and a super short temper the next day while he broods, so Soren it is. I imagine Soren waking up at 3 am to this insistent tapping on his door, just tap tap tap tap tap goddamn it who is it and Kai's just Who do you think it's the boogeyman.

Soren drags himself up and opens the door and yeah, no, see, the boogeyman is taller than you with black hair, what the fuck do you want Kai?

What Kai wants is to not be standing here, okay, but whatever. He had a nightmare. Fix it.

Soren just...Fix it how? Does he look like 'Jem to you? The only experience he has dealing with nightmares is when Ronan wakes him up screaming with his, and he's sure as hell not cuddling you. Not that you'd want it. ...Would you want it? Because that's just weird and Ronan would probably be upset.

No he doesn't want cuddles, can't you just listen while he complains or something, he doesn't know.

A frown or two later, yeah, he can listen at least, but not in here, what do people do for nightmares at 3 am anyway, follow him. So they end up in the kitchen where Soren heats up some milk in the microwave for him and tosses some cookies on a plate and just

Okay. So what happened?

And Kai tells him, and it's long, and terrible, and the kind of shit that Soren's glad he didn't have to experience first hand. He's even more glad that while he's dealing with this now, he won't be dealing with it every day the way Kai does. When he's done, Soren just sits there quietly, not cracking any jokes or making any smartass comments. Eventually he just asks, Feel better?

Kai looks like he's thinking about it for a minute, but he eventually nods. Yeah, he does. Thanks for listening, Soren. And he heads out of the kitchen and back to bed, leaving Soren to mull things over and finish off the cookies.

Got the Rainbow High Creative Crystals Bella doll for $14 (normally $30, no way), threw away the resin and accessories (they stunk) and nuked Bella in the sink. She's drying out and smelling better (not perfect, but better). I need to find her something to wear until I wash her shirt.

Minnie looks like she's having a minor breakdown because Mickey told her he was taking her on a cruise, only to show up and find out that 1) Dewey is the captain of a cardboard ship and 2) No one else is bothered by this.

Birthday presents from my brother and sister-in-law. I squealed and hugged my brother for the first time in...crap. Over a decade? I had to ask him three times before he would let me. I'm the super huggy person in the family that hates being touched without permission, and he's the 'hands off or I'll kick your ass no matter who you are' person. So I can probably expect another hug never.

I'll be opening the Espeon and Umbreon I got myself later.
