OC Deep Dive Questionnaire Tag

A set of 20 questions to get to know your OC!

I was tagged a few times to do this. First by @anamoon63, thank you! ❤️ You requested both James and Finn, so I'll start with James and will address Finn on a later one. 😊

What uncommon/common fear do they have?

James is terribly afraid people can see the pain behind his smiles. He's afraid of being "found out." People are slowly catching on he's actually not doing okay at all, and he hates that. He wants to keep everything close to his chest and decide for himself who he trusts with his shit.

Do they have any pet peeves?

When people don't clear up their mess. Especially now that he lives in a student dorm it annoys him. Some housemates leave their dirty dishes on the counter or even on the tables and it frustrates James to no end. He got along fine with Chris, his old roommate, but he's also quite happy he didn't get assigned a new roommate after Chris left. Also because of the answer to the previous question.

What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom?

His guitar, his keyboard and empty staff paper.

What do they notice first in a person?

Whether they're being real or pretending. James sees through the "fakes". It takes one to know one, I guess.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?

Quite high, probably an 8. He can handle physical pain a bit too well... And thus uses it to mask his emotional pain...

Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure?

James definitely flees from his internal pain. He doesn't want to feel everything he feels, so he tries to escape. In other ways he is actually quite a fighter, but he fights against the wrong things.

Do they come from a big family/are they a family person?

James' relationship with his parents is strained, but he adores his sisters and is a devoted uncle to his nieces Viola and Rosa. He also loved his grandmother and has a strong relationship with his uncle Oliver and aunt Claire, Daniel's parents.

What animal represents them best?

I answered this before and I'm sticking to a ragdoll cat, because they're cuddly and affectionate, yet very independent and slightly cross eyed. 😉

What is a smell that they dislike?

The smell of blood is triggering for James...

Have they broken any bones?

He broke the tip of his index finger on his right hand when he dropped a heavy shelf on it when he was a teenager. He couldn't play guitar for weeks and it made him very annoyed.

How would a stranger likely describe them?

Outgoing, charming, confident (proving they don't truly know him).

Are they a night owl or a morning bird?

Definite night owl

What is a flavour they hate and a flavour they love?

James has a bit of a sweet tooth, so anything inherently bitter is not his favourite thing to eat.

Do they have any hobbies?

Unsurprisingly, anything musical. Writing music, making music, singing. It's his happy place.

Boom, surprise birthday party! How do they react to surprises?

While James would be all smiles when someone threw him a surprise party, deep down, he would much rather spend his birthday with his friends or someone special. He does like surprises in general, but when you unknowingly catch him at a mental low, James would secretly struggle.

Do they like to wear jewellery?

Not particularly.

Do they have neat or messy handwriting?

What are the two emotions they feel the most?

Currently, it's clear he's fallen desperately in love, has no idea how to deal with that, and it takes over all his thoughts and emotions. I wouldn't know how to pinpoint two emotions for James even if this wasn't the case, though. His emotions always go all over the place, from anxiety of excitement and everything in between.

Do they have a favourite fabric?

Nothing synthetic, but other than that he doesn't really care.

What kind of accent do they have?

None, really. His voice is warm and kind. It's not very deep, but definitely not high either.

Would you rather: start your current project from scratch or do a soft reboot focusing on a different character?

Thank you so much for this very interesting question. I'm sorry it took me so long to answer it. I thought about it a lot, though!

This is an impossible choice! I could never abandon my loves. This is one of the reasons why I never switched to TS4. I knew I wouldn't be able to recreate them exactly as they are now, and I couldn't leave them. However, I did come up with an answer!

It would probably be some form of combination. Because I've been tailing the residents of Honeycomb Valley for so long, and some of my old stuff is completely irrelevant to the current happenings, if I absolutely had to, I'd probably start over at a specific point and instead of following literally everyone around, shift the focus to the current mains immediately.

Thankfully, this is only hypothetical because I could never truly do this. I mean, that One Specific Moment (TM) I've been wanting to write about for ages is finally getting close; there's NO WAY I'm turning back now!

This was a very interesting question that made me stop and think about my story in a way I hadn't before, so thank you very much for asking. ❤️

Here's a list of very random facts about my student bunch and two bonus characters. Some things may be known to some already, but I think most can be considered obscure. It is, of course, an essay. Because I'm simply never a woman of few words, especially when it comes to blabbing about my characters. 😊

James wrote his first original song at age 8. It was titled "Parent-Free World", and sometimes he still hums it absentmindedly. He bites his nails when he's nervous and the only place he "self-services" is in the shower because that's the least messy.

Sarah has been considering breast reduction surgery because she has back pain often. She and James developed "twin language" as toddlers and still remember and use some words.

Daniel secretly hoped he would have siblings, but it wasn't on the cards. This made him closer to James and Sarah, though. He's on the verge of failing university. Not because he's not smart enough but because the lectures bore him. His learning style is more visual and kinesthetic, and the University caters more towards auditory learners.

Jill sometimes remembers smidges of a past she can't really place and is convinced these are memories from a previous life. She knows all the songs from High School Musical by heart, but she doesn't tell a soul about this because she's embarrassed.

Seth is extremely intelligent and is a member of Mensa. He doesn't want to be cocky, so he hardly mentions it. He avidly plays D&D online, and his character, a sorcerer, is named Zeno Morningsteam.

Sadie is a wonderful singer and has a great musical ear, but it bothers her that she doesn't know how to play an instrument. She has a tiny birthmark somewhere on her body shaped like a heart (when seen up close). Her parents' marriage is going through stormy weather, but they hide this from their children (for now).

Rachel does yoga every day. She secretly liked it when Sadie spent every night with James because, as much as she loves Sadie, sharing her personal space with someone every night is very demanding for her. She's written seven chapters to a fantasy story, but this is a well-kept secret. If she tells someone about it, they may want to read it! 😱

Finn has a nut allergy. This was discovered when he was three years old and had to be rushed to hospital after sneaking a taste of Nutella. After his hospitalisation, "know what you eat" became a huge topic in the Richardson household, and this is actually what inspired Jill to want to become a chef. Since lots of food contains traces of nuts, Finn is very careful what he eats and always checks the packaging.

***Bonus characters (since they're fresh on everyone's mind)***

Joshua actually hasn't sworn off religion like his sister Martha has. He still has faith but is finding his own way. His crush on Joel is slowly fading, but he's happy about this. He hopes to find love soon but knows this is difficult in a small town. He ordered a free information booklet from The Rainbow Alliance entitled "Boys." which very openly and very detailed (in drawings) explains anything and everything boys who like boys need to know. It left him extremely flustered, but it's also his favourite thing to read now. 🤫

Morgan named Jonah after the love of her life, Jonas, who died in a car crash many years ago. Morgan has a subscription to OMGYES. Aside from writing, she has another creative passion: playing the violin. She's very good at it too. She's not looking for a relationship right now, life is too busy as it is.

Spring 08: Bestseller

Morgan’s latest children’s book, “Extraordinary Paws”, is a huge success! However, the other side of that coin for any writer is that now you’ve set your own bar very high. What’s next…? Morgan is lacking both the faith and the inspiration. But sometimes, opportunity comes knocking when you least expect it…

- "It's great you've had resources, Morgan. All of us here are kind of curious to see how Isaac's story proceeds."

"Really?" Josh said, "Because while reading, I sort of thought of something already... It just kept circling in my head... How about... 'Becoming Me'? Since that's what it feels like to me. Like I'm finally me."

"That's a wonderful title, Josh" Morgan said, "I'd be honoured to use it," she smiled.

"I'm honoured you wrote this story based on me," Josh smiled back. "And I hope the people at The Rainbow Alliance like it too."

"I'm sending it in today and hope to know soon!" Morgan grinned.

Morgan nodded as she sat down next to him, "Yes, it's you. At first, I was planning on just using elements of what you've told me, but your story is so interesting and so inspiring, my dear, that I ended up writing, well, you. In a fictional setting, obviously."

Joshua chuckled, "Well, yes, Isaac seems to be headed towards great romance by the end; I'm not seeing that in my near future."

"Hey, you never know!" Morgan laughed.

"But tell me honestly, Josh, how do you feel about all this? You can tell me if it's too personal. I can absolutely write something completely different."

Before the end of April, the story was done. Even though Morgan felt she could have written two hundred pages more, she had agreed to write a short story for The Rainbow Alliance first. However, before she shared her work with Lindy, the first person who got to read it was, of course, Joshua.

Joshua quietly read the pages Morgan had given him.

She tried to give him all the time he needed to read as she kept tidying up around the house.

Eventually, Joshua lowered the pages and stared at Morgan through teary eyes. "This... this is me..," he said softly.

Over the weeks that followed, Morgan and Joshua met more and more often.

First, just on Saturdays at the cafe...

...but eventually after school at Morgan's house too ("I've told my dad I'm hanging out with Joel.").

As their bond strengthened, Joshua talked more openly and freely. He told Morgan all about growing up under the Edwards' family roof, about the church and his own feelings towards religion, about friendship, about feeling different, about his love for fashion and eventually even confided in Morgan that the boy he had a crush on was, in fact, Joel ("but you won't tell him, will you?").

Morgan felt practically buzzing after she met with Joshua. His story had given her so much to work with.

Especially the part where he said, "I felt more me", kept playing in her head. That could be such a powerful core to a story.

Jonah was with his dads this weekend, so Morgan immediately got to work upon arriving home. She started to map out the basic plot of her story and wrote down all the questions that popped into her head to ask Joshua when they'd meet again.

"Did you tell that boy about your crush on him?" Morgan carefully asked.

"There is NO way I'm ever doing that," Joshua instantly replied, "he's straight, I'm sure of that. Nothing can come of it, and it'll just ruin... well, I can't."

He smiled at Morgan, "I know it's not much, but do you think my story can help you with yours?"

Morgan smiled back at him, "Joshua, I think you're quite a remarkable fifteen-year-old boy in the way you talk about all this, and I can definitely write a story about all this."

"Do you think we can meet a few more times to figure out all the details?"

Joshua nodded, "Yes, definitely. I'm not used to people being this interested in me," he laughed, "it's kinda nice."

Joshua shrugged, "I told my sister first. She was very understanding and encouraged me to tell Joel and Ryan because she knew I wanted to. And I did, which was also scary, but they were cool."

"So you actually told your family too!"

Josh fervently shook his head, "Noooo, just Martha! There's no way I could tell my parents. I mean, they'll know one day, obviously, but not yet..."

Morgan could tell this was a difficult question and briefly contemplated asking something else instead but decided to wait and give him time. An answer might come.

Josh took a deep breath and then continued, "I... fell in love, or, well, developed a crush... And when I realised that, I was very shaken up at first, but soon, and as I did some research, it was actually sort of a relief."
