Funny story, i used to hate jegulus but then it started being popped onto my for you page more and more, so I thought I should try reading a fic, watching a few edits, reading some headcanons, but nooooo you people had to turn me and now I’m obsessed with them. I love and hate the fandom 😭

I know most of us in the AFTG fandom reject the extra content part about Neil and Andrew never getting married, and I was thinking about this earlier when I was talking to someone new to the series.

These books take place in 2006/2007, if I remember correctly.  Which means when they start, gay marriage is only legal in Massachusetts.  Civil unions are legal in several other states, but that’s it.  Ten years pass before gay marriage is made legal throughout the United States by a Supreme Court decision (a 5:4 ruling, so not even an overwhelming majority).

You’re really going to tell me that Neil Josten and Andrew Minyard are not going to get married SOLELY because they were told they couldn’t for the first 10 years of their relationship?  Neil Josten.  Andrew Minyard.  The kings of spite.  We’re talking the guy who was so exhausted he couldn’t stand, yet still told Riko that he always knew what it was to be second best.  We’re talking the guy who punched a wall almost hard enough to break his hand because Kevin told him he had to practice when he didn’t want to.  We’re talking two people whose specialty is telling the world, “Fuck you,” every time somebody tries to beat them down. 

I’m sorry, but the literal SECOND gay marriage became legal in their state they were at the courthouse.  And they posted a picture of their marriage license online just to piss off the haters.  Just because for most of their lives they were told they couldn’t do it and they live to prove everybody wrong.
