This is Truth Collins, speaking on behalf of my fellow transgender siblings in the South Sudanese refugee camps.

We are struggling to survive.

We lack clean water, enough food, safe shelter, and medical care — and some of us are living with HIV/AIDS, making our situation even more urgent. Being trans in these camps is not just difficult — it is dangerous. Many of us have nothing but each other. And now, we are reaching out to you, with open hearts, asking:

Help Save Our Lives: LGBTQIA+ Refugees Facing Death and Despair

My name is Truth Collins. I am a proud transman, a human being who has only ever wanted to live free, in peace, with dignity—like every person deserves.

But for being who we are—LGBTQIA+—we are hunted. Beaten. Killed.

We ran from Uganda because they said our love, our existence, is illegal. They burned our homes. They arrested our friends. They killed people we knew.

We fled to Kenya. We thought it would be safe. But there, too, they hunted us. We were called demons. The police refused to protect us. People spat on us, starved us, and forced some of us into selling ourselves to survive.

Now we are in South Sudan. We thought maybe here—just maybe—we could find rest. But instead, they told us to leave the camp. Leave our only shelter. Leave or die.

There are 11 of us:

3 living with HIV/AIDS, without medicine.

2 mothers, whose babies cry from hunger at night.

The elderly who cough all day because there is no clean water.

People once strong and brave reduced to begging for a plate of food or a sip of water.

We have no home, no clean water, no medicine, no food, no safety. Every day we wake up is a miracle—but also a nightmare.

They kill us because of who we are. They tell us we do not deserve to live. But we are human beings. We feel. We dream. We love. We want to live.

We are begging the world to see us. To hear us. To help us survive.

Please help us raise money to rent a safe house, to eat, to get clean water, electricity, medicine, and security.

If no one helps, I fear the world will forget us—and we will die silently.

Being LGBTQ+ in South Sudan is not just difficult — it’s dangerous. People here face daily threats of violence, arrest, rejection from family, and crushing social stigma simply for existing as their true selves. Many of us have been forced out of our homes, jobs, and communities because of who we are or who we love.

Right now, many LGBTQ+ folks here are living in hiding, struggling for basic needs like food, medicine, safe shelter, and dignity. Access to HIV/AIDS medication is scarce. Mental health support is almost nonexistent. Simply being openly queer can cost you everything — even your life.

Despite this, we are still here. We are building quiet networks of care, support, and survival. We share food, protect each other, and create moments of joy in the shadows of fear. But we can’t do this alone.
