BLOOD BENDER KATARA🩸Probably the darkest episode of this series was Katara learning how to be a blood bender and I’m kind of surprised Nickelodeon kept it for being a kids show 😂 Still a pretty badass moment for her tho and if she mastered it, I think she would’ve been a force that even the fire nation would’ve feared. Anyway, I did this sketch of her to match the Zuko one I did. I also love these two (Zutara for life—sorry Aang. Though Zuko and Mei are also a cannon power couple).

I’m probably the last person to read “Rumor Has It” by @fictionissocialinquiry but it’s?? SO good??? This art doesn’t even come close to doing it justice, but I had to draw something as a way to channel the great love I still feel after finishing it. Painted Lady x Blue Spirit PLUS all the normal canon shenanigans? A treasure and a delight. Read it if you’re prepared to experience FEELINGS.

I worked on this for a WEEK and I couldn’t be more tired but I’m so proud of it. I’ve always loved the mythical concept of the Painted Lady and since I was a kid so I wanted to pay tribute. Then I thought, hey why not add mah boi Zuko too and TADAA! 

Anyway here’s my step by step process because I spent waaaay too long on this:

After confronting the man who took her mother’s life, Zuko and Katara take an extra night away from their friends so Katara can begin to sort out her emotions.

“You’re disappointed.” Katara sits curled into a ball, chin resting on her knees. “You wanted me to go through with it.”

Zuko looks up at her for what feels like the first time in hours. By the light of the setting sun, his eyes almost glow. “What?”

She stares stubbornly into the campfire. Part of her knows that the rocky outcropping he chose for their campsite is beautiful and serene, that if she stood at the edge and watched the sea lapping against the shore below, it might calm her mind and put the churning in her stomach to rest. She refuses. She doesn’t want to appreciate the scenery. She doesn’t want to bring her emotions back under control. She isn’t sure what she wants, but serenity isn’t it.

“Yon Rha.” The name burns her throat and tastes bitter on her tongue. “You wanted me to kill him.”

Having second thoughts about this one because it is a bit more niche (I know everyone has their own headcanon for Zuko and Katara’s future together and this is just mine), a bit more indulgent, and SO cheesy; the dragging-a-loved-one-to-a-special-place-while-they-keep-their-eyes-covered-and-then-you- tenderly-tell-them-to-open-their-eyes trope for instance… Leave me alone; I couldn’t help myself. Haha I think we all know that Zuko would not abide Katara not getting an honorary statue if she was his Fire Lady. >.> This animatic gets in and out quickly, since I’m still working full time, and also at the time, I had quite a few prompts left. But now that I’m working on a Reunion Part II, I kind of wish I could have saved this one for later, but oh well, I gotta post for the prompt!
