Announcement
I’m sorry to announce that the Lalin’s Curse theory page will not be very active, if at all, anymore.
The old theories will remain up, so there’s that. I’ll have to be logging off for quite some time, and will likely not be online within the near future.
Thank you all who read my theories and have submitted theories and questions! I encourage you to continue brainstorming conspiracies and maybe post a few of your own theories as well

𝙻𝚘𝚊𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚙𝚕𝚎𝚝𝚎…
HELLO IT’S BEEN A WHILE BUT WE’RE FINALLY BACK ON THIS STUFF SO LET’S HOP RIGHT INTO PART TWO OF THE EPISODE 9 BREAKDOWN.
We’ve barely scratched the surface of everything I have to discuss, so buckle your seatbelts folks. Immediately after the butterfly has been introduced, we get our first look at this dream world David has entered. He’s sitting on top of a roof, one which resembles the roof shape of his own house, and in this dream world we see giant goldfish made of shadows, a pink moon/sun/celestial body, and bunches of other spirits as well.
Tumblr media
There isn't much information regarding goldfish in folklore or ghost-lore. Terms such as goldfish, carp, dream, and ghost are far too vague to narrow anything down as of right now. However, more information may be available to expand upon with the coming of season 2.
Now what’s up with the great pink ball in the sky? Instinct tells me, and likely told you as well, that that is the moon. It’s simply distorted by the strange coloration of this dream world. That is certainly one possible explanation seeing as it is night time and the moon is usually visible during the night.
I DIDN’T EXPECT TO GET SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS LITTLE DETAIL BUT I AM AND HERE’S WHY.
At the beginning of episode 7, Isaky establishes the beginning of the scene by showing us a shot of the moon, and it’s a crescent. A very obvious crescent. I realize i didn’t go over this scene in the episode’s 5-8 overview but that’s okay for now.
But back to the moon. Look at it. Just look at it.
Tumblr media
Now that we’re done looking, let’s continue. That big pink ball in the sky may very well be the moon, but if Jessica is in the woods the same night that David goes to bed then why would the moon be full in the dream world? This brings us to the second possibility, that this is not the moon. It’s Nibiru.
For those who know what Nibiru is you can skip this paragraph. If not, keep reading!
Nibiru is a hypothetical planet often involved in conspiracies surrounding the supposed end of the world in 2012 (David himself has mentioned this earlier on). It was said that this planet had a very wide orbit, and would some day (in most theories 2012) come crashing through the solar system very close to earth or even colliding with it and effectively causing the end of the world. Some theorized that humans actually originated from Nibiru, and colonized earth during a flyby a long time ago.
I’m off the tangent now, welcome back to those who skipped it! If this object in the sky is really Nibiru, then what are the implications?
Well first off, it’s pretty close to earth. Nibiru is larger than the moon, so it can be assumed that it is farther away from earth than the moon is, but still close. This would make sense seeing as it’s supposed to crash into or pass by earth in december and we are seeing the sky in September.
Second off, will the world actually end? Probably not. Not only would that be a short and tragic end to Lalin’s Curse, but in real life the world never ended. It could be that the closeness of the planet causes lots of paranormal activity or even an alien invasion but it does not seem likely that the world will end.
This is a bit of a stretch, but it’s very possible that in Lalin’s Curse Nibiru will not be a physical planet, but some sort of dimensional force only visible in places such as the dream world David enters. If this were the case, such a large object with paranormal implications would cause a lot of shenanigans for Lalin and for the world, and possibly some destruction as well.
What do you guys think about the Nibiru theory? Feel free to leave a note on this post, hit up the ask box, or submit your ideas and thoughts! (Below is a visual example of Nibiru’s theorized orbit and intersection with earth)
Tumblr media
Moving on through the episode, David jumps off of his house to the street below, and we can in fact confirm that this is his house now that we have a visual of the exterior, it’s a match.
Tumblr media
We see these two shadow people, and multiple more shadow people throughout the episode. However, there are a lot of things to discuss here so we’ll be skipping those for now. (If you’d like information on shadow people, this post discusses it: https://lalinscursetheories.tumblr.com/post/187357150537/theory-file-005)
Tumblr media
Then we have these two panels. Two panels both chock full of spooky eyes. At first it may seem redundant, why draw the same thing twice but from two different angles? However, there is a marked difference between the panels. In the first the eyes are half lidded, perhaps even relaxed if i may say that. Then the moment they see David? BOOM. Those eyes widen rapidly, as if in reaction to seeing David.
Tumblr media
In the dream world there seem to be two kinds of ghosts or spirits. One with many eyes, and one with no eyes. Due to the motif of eyes concerning the demon trying to hurt David (who makes an appearance later in episode 9) and the motif of eyes in the graphic novel Delete being associated with the antagonist, it can be assumed that a spirit with many eyes is not likely to be friendly. I don’t mean they are all outright hostile, simply unfriendly.
Tumblr media
We see big spirits, like the spider thing outside David’s house, and small spirits, like the little one who eats a ghost.
This was a lot of information, but what does it all mean? I think that a spirit with many eyes is working for the demon trying to hurt David and they fall under a hierarchy based on physical appearance.
The creature outside of David’s house on his walls reacted quickly to his arrival, taking note of him then scuttling away. There are also various smaller creatures on the lightpost.
I believe the purpose of this large creature may have been to alert the demon when David has entered the world or alert the demon of his current location, and the same can be said of all the other creatures with many eyes. The large spider-like creature could have been stationed outside of David’s house because that would be one of the most important places to be, which signifies that that creature had a more important job and therefore a higher rank.
It also seems that based on the size of the many-eyed spirits they consume different types of spirits. Take for example the small spirit with a red eye. It consumed the light spirit that floated past it.
Tumblr media
Bigger animals need more food. It can be assumed bigger spirits, bigger demons need more food. So while it is sufficient for a small creature to consume the little floating light spirits that can be found much anywhere, larger and more dangerous creatures such as the demon must pursue larger prey, like the soul of a shiny-eyed child.
Seeing as these demons are attracted to their prey, that could explain why this creepy as heck spider boi followed David through the spirit world.
Tumblr media
There are bugs on Felix's window, but this will be saved for a discussion about Felix’s backstory and character as a whole. I’m excited to write that, so stay tuned!
After this creepy stroll through the dream world, a soft and errie voice croaks something through the ambience of rustling spirits and the echoes of souls. “Help…”
Did I get carried away? Maybe. Yeah.
The demon pretends to be a victim and crawls very spookily through the window. ANd then we get to see a close up of its face. As creepy as it is, notice this one thing.
It’s wet.
Tumblr media
We know that this demon likes to exist under the bridge. This is evident concerning the events of Delete as well as the events of episode 21 where we literally see the demon in the water under the bridge. It almost seems like this demon just came from the bridge, and came to capture David.
Tumblr media
This is where the messenger theory fails, the theory that the other many eyed creatures are spies and lookouts for the demon, seeing as unless these spirits can teleport, there’s no way the demon could have come from the river to the town in time. However, it could just be that it sensed David and started making it’s way over the moment he closed his eyes and entered the dream world.
One other thing to mention, look at all those faces on the demon.
It’s pretty creepy, all of those faces saying that they’re hungry and they need help. Fear not! I have a theory!
I think that when the demon consumes the soul of someone, their essences begin to meld. Many people being captured and consumed by a demon would probably be pleading for help, just as we see David do when the demon grabs him. However, over time, the consciousness of the consumed soul may begin to merge with the demon, and as a consequence, begin to voice it’s desires. That the demon is hungry.
Tumblr media
Thank you for reading this theory file! I wrote this late at night, so i expect the quality to be less than usual. In part three we’ll discuss the butterfly’s effect on the demon, the shadow people David kept seeing, the episode’s soundtrack, and the aftermath of the dream!
Once again thank you for reading and have a wonderful day/night!

LET’S GO, GUYS, WE’RE BACK WITH ANOTHER EPISODE OF THE BREAKDOWN!!!
Ah man, it’s really been awhile, let’s hop right into this with episode 9 (the fun one). Right off the bat, we’ve got the blue butterfly. It’s sort of early in the breakdown, but let’s go ahead and talk about the blue butterfly.
Tumblr media
It appears at first sight to be a blue morpho, a species of butterfly native to the tropics of Latin America. It’s the right size as well, seeing as blue morpho butterflies have a wingspan of 5-8 inches.
However, the underside of this butterfly’s wings are bright blue, whereas the blue morpho has dull brown coloration on the underside of its wings (a neat camouflage mechanism!)
Tumblr media
This butterfly could also be a monarch. Yes, monarch butterflies typically have vibrant orange coloration but hear me out.
Blue morphos are naturally occurring, whereas blue monarchs are not. This butterfly is obviously supernatural in essence, seeing as it seems to appear before every supernatural event (e.g. it appeared before the power outage at David’s house, before the demon knocked on the barn window, etc..) It also shows up in David’s dreams and can interact with the demon, further cementing its status as a supernatural being.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blue monarchs are classic for having a supernatural affiliation in mythology in folklore. They are said to represent happiness, good luck, and a wish fulfilled. This makes sense, seeing as the butterfly was able to drive away the demon. Demons are the uncanny embodiment of fear and evil, so it’s natural that the opposite of it, light and goodness, would be able to harm it.
Tumblr media
This may also have a connection to Delete (prequel to Lalin’s Curse). Please take this next part concerning the butterfly with a grain of salt, as it is mostly pure theory rather than researched fact.
I’ve mentioned before that David’s brown streak of hair is not only a consequence of his head injury but likely also symbolic of him earning his ‘Valor’, like a piece of Valor stayed with him (his streak and Valor’s hair are the same color). He used to be more of a pushover, as shown in the flashback.
But now he’s clearly willing to stand up to others to defend what he believes in, as seen when he argues with Cody. The only difference between the two instances of having his belief challenged is the timeline, he fought with Cody after the events of Delete. One can conclude, therefore, that this is a consequence of character development stemming from those events (even if David doesn’t remember it).
Tumblr media
It wouldn’t be so far fetched to say that the blue butterfly is also symbolic of David’s character development. Although he clearly still exhibits self-deprecating tendencies, it’s also clear that he is a happier person than he was in Delete. The butterfly could represent his happiness, as well as having other supernatural significance.
Alright, I’m off the Delete tangent now.
In many folklores and cultures, the butterfly (specifically blue monarchs in some versions of lore) is seen as a symbol of someone’s soul. In Western European folklore, butterflies have the ability to pass into a plane of existence called the ‘Otherworld’. It’s basically the spirit world.
Tumblr media
In earlier episodes, the thin black veins on the wings do not resemble the thick black markings of a monarch. However, in later episodes the black markings are extremely obvious and very deliberate.
Tumblr media
So yeah that’s why i think it’s a monarch and not a morpho :)
WOW okay i just realized how long this breakdown is already. This episode is packed with information, so it may even be broken into 3 parts.
Thank you so much for reading! Have a nice day you fantastic human!

Do you think the crow Felix is taking care of will have any major importance to the plot? Since Season 2 will talk more about Felix, I have a feeling we will see more of it, along with Arhiel’s cat.
Hmm, maybe or maybe not! From a comic-canonical evidence based view it’s not likely, seeing as there’s been no indication of the crow’s significance other than that Felix likes birds.
However, from a speculation and theory standpoint it’d be interesting to see it take on the role of a sort of familiar or animal companion. More birds is always a good thing

OKAY, OKay, okay..! But what if a shiny eyed kid has heterochromia (two different colored eyes)?! I'd really like to see a character like that, and I would try to draw it, but alas stick figures just won't cut it XD.
that’d be really cool. Do you think the eyes would glow the same color because it’s the same thing causing the glow in both eyes or a different color for each eye because of the pigmentation of the iris? And if you’ve got a character idea in mind i’d be happy to doodle it for you

Have a video url! ( /watch?v=ABMV4wXx6Xo ) It's CGP Grey exploring an old missile testing site in Utah. I can just imagine David having the time of his life being wowed at it and going through the filing cabinets marked "no classified material inside" in particular, and just imagining the US military testing alien tech from Area 51. Meanwhile Felix is stopping him from climbing very unsafe ladders and pointing out the incoming storm. He'd also befriend the vulture.
I’m having some trouble opening the link aha, do you mind telling me the name of the video?
I haven’t even watched it yet but this is so valid.

Which of the Lalin boys are you most like? Not quite sure? There’s also a quiz lying around somewhere on the internet! Do you think more character studies like this as well as theories would be neat? Lemme know!

Beanpole: "It's fine to eat humans! It's to survive, also they eat each other all the time!" Cody: "They do not eat each other 'all the time', only in like extreme situations like that mountain plane crash! Nobody does it in civilization, it's uncivilized!" Alex Jones: "I am ready to eat my neighbor right now!"
Maybe Alex Jones is a reptillian,, hmmm

Pt 2. Arhiel meanwhile might have one of two storylines: In both she's looking for "the one", in Route A she figures it out immediately and wants to align him to her interests, tempting him with offers to help him practice and give him answers about his powers, and of course blackmailing Esteban with revealing him to the others. Felix will see David and her hanging out and get really angry and defensive and he'll flat out threaten her to stay away. Both she and David will have to choose...
This could play out to be very interesting? Do you, or anyone, have any suspicions or theories as to why she might need to use David and get close to him like that?
If she does want to get close to him to use him for something, it might be for something the demon wants or something regarding the Curse of Lalin, seeing as she has the weird mark on her shoulder which was in the original Lalin’s Curse logo.

Just a heads up! The ask box is behaving weirdly right now and I’m not getting any notifications when i get them, so if you submit a theory through there it may take a bit for me to notice, though I’ll make sure to check more often now so i don’t miss anything!

Pt 1. So this is a kinda serious prediction for S2: Arhiel is back, and I think she's just going to show up at Julen's front door the next morning or so like "Hi! I still have the key to the front door mind if I crash here for a few days? What, a lady can't visit her ex on good terms, and her son who was just kidnapped are you okay sweetie?" And Felix is going to be pissed and suspicious and will try to keep David away from her without telling him why and David will be kinda confused...
Ohh yeah, i totally forgot that she’s prolly gonna interact with them sooner or later. That’ll be interesting

I’m still confused about Maria’s house situation. Like, have her friends never been to her house before??? Because I’m pretty sure if they did, they would be asking a lot of questions that Maria wouldn’t want to answer. IS THAT EVEN HER HOUSE??? Obviously, it’s pretty weird she says that’s her house, since it literally looks like it’s been abandoned for who knows how long. Any thoughts?
Ooh okay i’ve got a couples way this could go. Option 1: I think she stays there from time to time or something, but I don’t think it’s her house. The shady society of strange people or whatever Esteban and her are with probably has some abandoned houses in the middle of nowhere the used for various things (e.g. the house beanpole and kris tortured Cody in)
Option 2: Maria doesn’t have parents. Esteban seems to have a habit of seeking out children with supernatural affiliation (e.g. David is psychic, Cody is reptilian) and it's seems that Maria could be supernatural as well. She could see David’s butterfly (even when he himself didn’t notice it!).
Like I mentioned in an earlier ask, there’s a high probability of Esteban and Maria being related, so maybe Esteban lets her stay in some random house that the shady society of strange people own.

Cody finally gets a phone and immediately becomes a top beauty influencer using his transformation/chameleon powers to generate different looks that he then pretends is makeup and cosmetic skills. Despite the fame from this very feminine internet career he still refuses to wear a snow white dress which makes Maria very sad.
Everyone’s asking for tutorials and he just has no idea how to answer

Okay, but can we talk about how Cody can be in reptilian form but not have red eyes? What do the red eyes mean? Do they only glow when he is tense? Is this actually important? Am I thinking too hard about this? Why am I asking so many questions?
Questions are cool? Questions are neat? It’s the only way we get answers?
I’ll break this down into two parts, alien lore and supernatural lore. (Just for now there’s a difference.)
Everyone knows about reptillians. But what you may not have know is that there are multiple kinds of reptilians! The classification we’re going to discuss real quick are known as Chameleons.
Chameleons are the reptilians in charge of interbreeding with humans to spread reptilian genetics. In order to be successful at this, they also possess shape-shifting abilities.
So Cody’s ability to have normal looking eyes while in reptilian form could definitely be a product of his natural shape-shifting abilities. Perhaps it’s because his eyes are the first thing to turn reptilian when he transforms, so they’re also the first thing to turn back when he begins to phase slightly into his human form.
Now let’s talk about the supernatural aspect.
According to various sources, eye glow is the the visible product of supernatural energy in a being. It seems natural for this energy to be a force that lies somewhere between an energy form and an emotive force.
So basically yes, Cody’s eyes are more likely to change or glow when he is tense. However, the glow seems to happen either as a special affect to make his eyes looks pretty or something that happens only after he’s gone more reptilian.
When they’re in the woods and Cody hears something, he is tense. His pupils turn to slits like a reptile, and his eyes begin to turn red, but no glow.
This ended up being WAY longer than intended, haha. If anyone’s interested in more information on reptilians, i talk about them here: https://lalinscursetheories.tumblr.com/post/186848906652/theory-file-002-info-sub-file

Just wondering.... Have you watched the old Lalin's Curse Theory Podcasts? I watched them recently, and I do NOT regret it. Although, they did discuss old episodes and secrets that have already been revealed, it's still interesting to watch. If u have, what are your thoughts on it?
There’s a couple different podcasts, but if you’re wondering about the ones from the Amino squad on Youtube? Then yes.
I’ve written some of my thoughts on it before, but I do have a terrible memory so for a more in depth review i’d have to rewatch.
I did think it was pretty funny when they said, “I think we can all agree that Cody is NOT the murderer and CANNOT commit violence.” Because the murderer had not been revealed yet, but i was thoroughly convinced that it was Cody.
But now i feel bad about that because he’s a good child who killed a man out of self defense and he’s not okay about it

Mostly silly Season 2 prediction: Someone starts sabotaging the activities of the Lalin Supernatural Control CommitteeTM but they can't figure out who. Cody was never told about it by Maria or Esteban, and they've been watching Arhiel 24/7 since she arrived back in town. In a twist it was both of them working together! Arhiel simply sent her cat to Cody who could understand their instructions in meowtalk just like squirrel chittertalk. Squirrels are also very useful in surveillance themselves.
First off, I highly appreciate the use of meowtalk and chittertalk and will be using that in my vocabulary from now on. Thank you for your contribution to the English language.
Second off that’s a LARGE plot twist but one that also seems oddly plausible. It’s one of those theories where it doesn’t seem like the story is going to go that way, but there’s not exactly anything stopping it from doing so. If it doesn’t happen this could be an interesting AU.
