One Dazai sketch a day keeps the art block away
I dont know if you guys can tell, but I really love drawing Dazai.

They're rough and somewhat unfinished because I was mainly doing them for fun :)

Harukawa casually dropping some of the best bsd official art- she draws Dazai so pretty.

Harukawa's official art is genuinely one of my most favourite things ever- i could go on a whole rant about how much I love every official art drawn by her.
Like the colours and the fashion sense? It's all goes together SO well. The use of softer colours combinations and the clothing choices is something I wish I could replicate.

The dehumanization of ability users is such a recurring theme in BSD, but it manages to be so devastating every time. The way they are treated, especially by authority figures, like the government, as nothing more than tools, as if all that is valuable, useful, about them is their powers, as if they are nothing more than their abilities. It's sad to think that this has been happening for the last 1500 years, that Ueda was not only forced into eternal life and imprisoned inside their own creation by the politicians of their time, used as a means to prolong Ame-no-gozen's existence, but that now this same creation has been fused with the corpse of an ability user and both are being used to fulfill someone else's evil goals, which contradict or distort their own ideals

How many times is Asagiri gonna kill Akutagawa?!
But I'm not gonna lie- this time, i audibly gasped.

WHAT IS THIS?! What is this, Asagiri?!
This actually caught me off guard- last chapter, Akutagawa saw Atsushi instead of dazai only for Asagiri to pull this in the new chapter- i dont even know what to say.
He saw Dazai in his "last" moments (I dont believe he's dead), and the one time dazai praises Akutagawa, it's in his head. Don't even get me started on the tears in his eyes. And the very next thing that happens is...

...THIS?!

Ignoring everything that happened before and after this particular panel- I have to say, seeing dazai play the piano was NOT what I was expecting to see this chapter. There have been way too many random dazai things in the manga lately. Like, port mafia dazai in the great '25? Dazai posing weirdly? Just what kind of perception of dazai do Akutagawa and Atsushi have in their heads?

All while he's in France doing god knows what.

Chuuya redraw from that one dead apple scene because he looked so good.

This took a little too long to finish since I tried to colour it differently than my usual artystyle without linerart and stuff lol

the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

There's something so twisted about Dazai saying "certainly" with this much conviction, when he himself was struggling to find a reason to live in the Port Mafia.

Even worse when you remember that he'd declared his desire to watch the mafia burn in Stormbringer. Simply because he was bored of it all. Killing, death, schemes. All of it was the same. Everything became mundane.

Dazai never found any meaning in living in the Port Mafia, but here he is, promising Akutagawa the one thing he never got ahold of. Guaranteeing that Akutagawa would find it.
And the funny thing is, he did.

Dazai, in the end, did give Akutagawa a reason to live. But here's the catch: It's primarily tied to him. Not the mafia, not some high-end goal related to Akutagawa as a person, but the suicidal executive.
And it makes sense, in hindsight.
Despite Dazai's visible efforts to make Akutagawa use his head more than his ability, he's the one (whether intentionally or unintentionally) who molded Akutagawa into this person, hungry for validation from his senior more than anything. And how you look at it (Dazai's intentions) determines if it was either a plan doomed from the start, or a perfectly calculated one.
Akutagawa would never want to seek more than what he was taught to seek. Would never stop being Dazai's lapdog. Would never grow a conscience that defines him, shape him into his own person. Would never hope for more than the Port Mafia, being Dazai's shadow.
In turn, Dazai would never need to worry about Akutagawa's intentions, only his executions. Something far easier to discipline someone over.

From the very beginning, Akutagawa was a wild card Dazai needed to moderate. So he made his approval all he should seek. He made him strive for nothing more.
He made Dazai all Akutagawa is.
And once he fulfills his wish to end his life, Akutagawa will be gone as well.
#THIS was my first thought as well omg#Dazai speaking about giving Akutagawa a reason to live with such certainty when the man himself still hasn't found a reason to continue#AND agree on Dazai looking absolutely devoid of life in that panel. he's so done with life already#bsd reblogs#bsd#bsd spoilers#bungo stray dogs

Having Atsushi see PM Dazai and Akutagawa was NOT what I expected - i love this so much, actually. This is gonna add another layer of depth to Dazai and Atsushi's relationship, and honestly, I can't wait to analyse THAT further. I wonder how this will change how Atsushi sees Dazai.

I... each time Odasaku gets mentioned, I'm in shambles... yeah, no. This isn't cool, Asagiri. But honestly, I'm not sure exactly if I'm interpreting this scene right since translations aren't out yet but if Atsushi can see Oda's death then that just adds a whole another layer to this entire thing. I wonder what his perspective of Dazai would be now. Also, Asagiri just cannot go without mentioning Oda- and thing is, I can't blame him. Oda basically haunts the narrative of BSD at this point. But each time he gets mentioned, I turn into beast Dazai.
Also, what exactly is that pose that Dazai's striking anyway?

See, I'm not exactly sure what Dazai's trying to do here OR what the context is, but he's such an icon, honestly. He's striking a pose like a diva while Atsushi just... looks like he's on the verge of a mental breakdown. I guess that sums up those two in a nutshell.

I think... I need Dazai in my life to give me reality checks every now and then. I feel like he'd do a good job cause I do start acting like Atsushi sometimes.

Nothing to see here. Just twinning in trauma.

Hoshikawa really knows how to draw pain. Both these panels just make me so sad. So you're telling me that BEAST Dazai would be going about his day only to have random flashbacks of Odasaku's death...? And not to mention Chuuya having nightmares about his past in stormbringer...
