I met an old neighbor who lived down the street today.

She told me she has been married for 71 years!  I couldn’t but help jump up in joy for her.  That’s a remarkable feat.

When I pointed out how I was looking forward to seeing the magnolia blooms in her front yard, she said she couldn’t see them because she was legally blind.  I felt suddenly sad to hear it.   I guess that is why I work at my online shop.  It takes a lot of my time and energy but it’s my happy place.  I enjoy creating the designs and sharing them with the world.  I am also thankful that I live in a time and place where a print on demand model is possible.   This means there is no waste and no over production.  Each product is created only when an order is placed and it ships globally. I’m amazed and grateful for such opportunities. 

What will you use your creativity, time, skills and resources for?

It's been a while since my last post here. I like returning here since this is one of the first social media platforms I used to share my experiences and lessons on faith and living life well.

I heard Tumblr might shut down? I'm not sure. I hope this platform does continue though.

There's something unique about this place. I get the sense that the community here prefers less loud activity. Time away from the loud buzz and Tumblr's underground feel are good ways to enjoy social media slowly. It's a good way to be kind to one's soul.

I also have a sense that people who enjoy hanging out at Tumblr have bold and ambitious dreams as well. I don't mean just in terms of achieving status, fame, money or power. I meant something more.

It is that huge desire to do good and make a difference in the world in the kindest and most generous way to others. Now, that is something we all we can do each day.

Check out the Instagram clip I created using the stills/videos from my own archives - courtesy of a camping trip we did as a family several years ago.

In that IG post, I wrote how contributions from painter, Thomas Moran and survey photographer, William Henry Jackson helped make Yellowstone become America's first designated national park.

I hope you enjoy reading it.

Believe that you are created for a purpose. Have faith. Keep moving forward in your life journey. Go create good things.

My take on ladders 🪜😉 Evidently as seen in this painting here, the ladder is my subject. Why the fascination, you may ask. Until I saw Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings with ladders 🪜 hung on the tranquil walls of rarefied museums 🤔, I never paid much attention to them 😬 These objects that so many ordinary mortal folks like us 👵🏼👨🏽👦👧🏼👩🏻 have used at one time or another. As long as I can remember, the ladder is a practical item to reach for something higher - an extremely useful and practical piece of apparatus for someone short like me. Georgia O’Keefe, a painter who lived from 1887-1986, however saw the ladder in a different light. 🔆 This is what a really inspiring leader does. They lead without coercion and with gentle winsome messages help us see the world and ourselves in a totally new way. They introduce to us things we never considered before and usher possibilities for us to aspire for and step into with both heart and bravery. The message for us all? We are always growing in our faith journey in God.  Trust Him and His promises. Listen to the beautiful lyrics of this song accompanying this clip, “I Can Hear You Call My Name” by JOYSPRING. I found my faith taking a different level of understanding and renewal as I worked on this product.  What I didn’t know when I began this work was that I was missing and running dry on some aspects of my spiritual walk with God.  As I stayed on with the project, I found myself renewed and refreshed, gaining fresh inspiration and encouragement even as I write this.  Glad to have embarked on this work.

There is a deep and ancient spirit about Istanbul. In that city, if you ever visit it, you may, if you allow it, let yourself be connected to an almost ancient part of you. So glad to receive this picture of the Blue Mosque from @sienchi ! Follow him on FB or on IG of his Turkish travels. Swipe right to see my painting of this majestic piece of architecture. I drew and painted it on the cardboard partly for two reasons. I had no more paper left that day and I felt the brown cardboard expressed the sentiment I felt of that place. A local told me Sultan Ahmet 1 built it for his wife. Google these days throw up none of that reference. But for years and in the moment of creating that piece, I try to remember what young love might look like for these two. What color would I pick out for my loved one? That was the question that went through my head when I saw the beautiful Iznik tiles. Would blue be my color of love? (No, I would want pink mixed in.) Anyway Sultan Ahmet 1 began the project when he was 19 amid the decline of the Ottoman Empire. If anything, I am moved and touched by his gentle heart, if the local lore that he built it for a woman he loved holds true.
