My favorite leigh rivers work by far!!! This story feels like star crossed lovers x dramione vibes— if you’re into that then THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU.

I’m absolutely head over heels in love with Seraphine and Dane, I will be thinking about them for years to come 😭 I have always wanted to read a story with a plot like this but without actually knowing anything about it beforehand. This took me by surprise and let me tell you— it was EVERYTHING. This book was so much fun to read and the tension kept rising and rising between these characters!! I even love the side characters Mel, Poppy, and Orsen <3 I find them to be such a fun addition to the story and I want to get to know them better. I love love love the academy setting and having the characters attend mortal studies while completing their tasks 🤭 Dane Dalton the man you are!!! I was incredibly curious as to how he was going to use his shadow powers before reading this book and I must say, it did not disappoint!

This plot was so intriguing and I loved following Seraphine through her mortal journey of the immortal world. The mystery aspect has me hooked! I’m very much anticipating book 2 in the Broken Realm series, I can't wait to see what Leigh has in store for Seraphine and Dane!! In the meantime, I will be mourning the fact that I can't read this book for the first time again. Catch me rereading (and crying) until book 2 releases.

Ann Liang dives into the suffocating weight of familial pressures and aspirations and its effects on a teenage girl who already struggles with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the fear of failure.

This book is “this is me trying” x academia featuring a burnt out perfectionist, a failing art student, and the quiet prodigy. If the Kane brothers own Disney, then the Lopez cousins own Zillow.

By the time I was 10% into this book, I could already tell this was a 5 star for me. It was such a light and easy read, I had so much fun getting to know these characters and dive into their past, family relationships, and love for the art of flipping homes. As a girl who grew up on HGTV, this was the perfect read for me. In combination with the competitive rivals aspect that Dahlia and Julian have, they share a history that you just can't beat. This history and knowledge of each others past gives the characters such good banter and snarky remarks for each other. I can't help but think of Jess Mariano saying "I know you. I know you better than anyone!" every single time Julian shows that he can read Dahlia like a book. In addition to that, Lake Wisteria feels like such a cozy and tight knit community which is reminiscent of Stars Hollow for me. If theres one thing Lauren Asher knows how to do, it's little cameos and name drops for the Kane family in her books!

You don't know how much I appreciate the translations being on every page, it saves me time to not have to open a browser and search it up. Plus, this way I can focus on reading and not worry about getting distracted because the translation are at the bottom of each corresponding page. Now this is how you write a book with good structure.

Dahlia is just like me because I too, love bay windows and caramel iced coffee with caramel drizzle. Julian however, is SO Taylor Swift coded its insane!! Julian "the mastermind" Lopez as I like to call him— but really Lauren Asher is the real mastermind here. I love the little details in the paint swatches on the cover of this book, I think that it really adds to how much planning goes into writing a book, creating a cover, and like in Dahlia and Julian's case— designing a house.

I can't wait for Rafael and Ellie's book next up in the Lakefront Billionaires series!
