Beta Reader About Me
This is going to be a more in-depth post about me as a beta reader, which will be linked in my pinned post.
First off, hello call me Shark! I'm 18 and go by he/they pronouns. I am open to beta reading for people, whether that's stuff on here or AO3
What I'm willing to do:
Grammer/Capitalization/Punctuation
Cheer reading(pointing out what you did well and what I'm excited to see)
Identify plot inconstancies/where something needs to be clarified
Help with canon/characterization(if I know what/who it is)
American/Midwest information and more specifically Wisconsin information
Pretty much anything else you wish me to help with
*Depending on the fandom and length of fics, some of these will differ in doability*
I am generally ok with any kind of content that you write, but I do have some fic turn-offs. *Note that not everything on this list means I won't beta read for you, but I would like more info/details around them if they are in your fic to see if I'm still comfortable helping*
Mpreg/Anything pregnancy-related
Kid fics(when the main pairing has a kid, not kid-focused fics)
Really dark stories with no happy endings(depends on the story, but I'd prefer a happy/fulfilling ending)
Major Character death
Anything that is meant to hate a certain group/subgroup of people
Really long fics over 100k words
Some things that I am comfortable reading. *Not a comprehensive list*
Omegaverse
Reader Insert
G-E rated fics
Original characters
Canonverse
Alternate Universe
Gore and violence
Potentially triggering topics
I will again read pretty much any fandom you write for including original works, but here are some fandoms that I would be able to help more in-depth with:
The Witcher(Show, Third game, Most of the books), The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Halo(Game series), Marvel, Venom, Star Wars/The Mandalorian, Transformers, Call of Duty, How to Train Your Dragon(I hate the third movie, I'm sorry), Spider-Man/Deadpool(Spideypool), Percy Jackson/The Heroes of Olympus, The Hunger Games, The Divergent Series, Maze Runner, Narnia(Movies only, I don't know anything in the books), Pride and Prejudice/Emma, Disney/Pixar movies, The 100, NBC Hannibal, Rise of the Guardians, Good Omens, Our Flag Means Death, Beastars, Titanfall 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Divinity Original Sin 2, Hazbin Hotel, Critical Role(I've only watched Campaign 1 and 3, and the TV show), Once Upon a Time, Anne with an E, Harry Potter, Six of Crows, Twilight, Star Trek, The Conjuring series, Descendants/High school Musical, Guardians of the Galaxy, Oceans Trilogy, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, Top Gun, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones(I've only read the first 4 books though), Fast and Furious, Moon Knight
I will read WIPs/completed works, multi/single chapter works, original works, and anything in between.
If you are interested or have any questions you may DM me. If you do, please provide whether I would be helping with a WIP or completed work, and whether there are any deadlines I need to be aware of. Please also include any warnings I should know about, and what you would want me to help with. I would also prefer to work on Google Docs.
*Even if you are not interested, please reblog for others to see*

You have no right to hurt me like that 😭😭😭 Oh, my poor Bilbo 🥺
The fact that The Hobbit is such a lighthearted family-friendly book, especially when compared to LOTR, actually breaks my heart when you consider that it is Bilbo’s writing. That journey was anything but a fun trip for him. He went through real dangers and horrifying moments. He saw violence for the first time. At the end of it, he lost his love. And he went home traumatized, heartbroken, and forever changed.
Yet when he wrote the story down, he emphasized the more successful and fun parts, and glossed over the depth of his pain and grief when the losses happened (even leaving Fili and Kili’s passing to a throwaway line.)
Because what else could he have done? Nobody else could possibly understand his pain. Bilbo wasn’t like Frodo. He didn’t have a Sam who he shared the experience with and could talk to about it every day afterward, to help him work through writing down the details of the darker parts of the story. And his other friends lived far away and could only visit occasionally.
And the hobbit children were all full of wonder about Elves and dwarves and trolls, so he put the focus on that.
I feel like that was his way of dealing with his trauma.

This is awesome! One more supporter of Bagginshield fellas 🔥🔥🔥
I convinced my mum to watch the hobbit trilogy with me and the first thing she said the second an unexpected journey ended was "so,... the king and bilbo, huh?"
I love this woman so much

PSA to fan creators who don't have a lot of regular contact with children: They are almost always bigger than you think. A 1-year-old baby may already be walking. A toddler is likely already hip-high. A 10-year-old may already be taller than at least one of their parents. A 14/15 year old may already have reached their adult height.

This moment ... when you're writing a hurt/comfort fic in a modern setting. and your protagonist is a dude who is very analytic, skilled in fighting and happens to be pretty clued up on different weapons.
and you are not familiar with the mechanics and other information about guns. but you just need to know. because well, the protaginist has to know it, right?
so you decide to google. nothing wrong with that, right?
and so you're surfing through the internet, asking the search machine questions about weapons. as if it was your everday chore. and while you type in "speed of 9mm projectiles fired from handguns" you silently think: "am I being watched by some FBI dude right now?" or "Is this illegal?" and "it's just for a fanfic, don't bother backstabbing me, dear internet... please?."
Guys, I swear to you... I've never been so hesitant before to type in some words into a search engine or a tumblr post.

If someone still has doubts about the reality of Bagginshield ... please read these #deep dives from @fantasyinallforms!🔥🔥🔥
Let's jump into one of my all-time favorite scenes in DOS. The end of the barrel scene when they come ashore. It really marks another milestone in Thorin and Bilbo's relationship. See below. Thorin can't keep his eyes off Bilbo. He's completely enamored by him and moves to be closer to him almost every chance he gets from this point forward. I had to shorten this gif by over 3 seconds to make it fit; that's how long he stares unblinkingly at Bilbo. Until the end of this gif, Bilbo isn't even the one talking. Balin is, so it's not like he's staring at the person talking.
Tumblr media
And if you think I'm exaggerating by saying unblinking, here is a close-up gif of the first time Thorin blinks in the last 30 seconds. It's not until Dwalin breaks his line of sight!
Tumblr media
Right after the above, we see Bard sneak up on Ori, and some chaos ensues. Bard has his arrow trained on the crowd and has demonstrated his proficiency with it. The shot pans out over dwarves' reactions for mere frames. It does this back and forth twice, as seen below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bilbo and Thorin are nowhere to be found. The spot they occupied moments ago is empty because you can see Balin. That brings us to the below. The first thing Thorin did when he saw there was danger was rush to Bilbo. He is quite literally pressing himself as close as he can to his side.
Tumblr media
From this moment forward in the movie, Thorin stays remarkably close to Bilbo at all times if he can help it. Don't get me wrong he was fond of Bilbo before this but after the events of Mirkwood, this dwarf tripped down a river and into smitten.
I think he came to terms with how much he loved Bilbo in these few moments.

I'm not kidding when I say worldbuilding is extremely easy and fun, you can make easily all sorts of new fantasy worlds on like half an hour, follow this guide:
take a rectangle, draw a line through the middle, that's your equator, draw another two lines south and north, those are your tropics, draw another two lines further north (you can see a real world map to guide yourself), those are your arctic/antarctic circles
Draw continents, any shape you want, it's better to combine large soft blobs (like Africa or South America) with coastlines full of peninsulas and islands (like Europe or South Asia). Draw some island chains in between where you feel it's appropiate. Some inland seas like the Mediterranean are good too.
Decide where you will place mountain ranges. In real life, they are where oceanic-continental plates (Andes) or continental-continental plates (Himalayas, Alps), collide. These are very important.
Place rivers, just the most important ones. The places where you place big river systems are gonna be big plains.
Now, the fun part. With your first step, you've already decided where arctic, temperate, and tropical climates are there. You can mark it as letters in your map. Mountain ranges, of course, are colder.
Here's the tricky part: vegetation: vegetation mostly follows precipitation, and precipitation is mostly decided by altitude and distance from the ocean. The interior of your continents should be dry with plains and deserts; the coasts should be rainy with forests and plains. But remember, if you have a mountain range, that's a rain shadow! Picture the wind coming from the ocean with rain, and it should get less rainy when it "clashes" with a mountain range, with the other side a desert.
Deserts are tricky to place, but as a quick cheat, you can place them in your tropic lines. They can even border oceans: see Australia and the Kalahari.
WHEN IN DOUBT, LOOK AT SIMILAR AREAS ON A REAL WORLD VEGETATION/CLIMATE MAP. THIS IS WHY DRAWING THE EQUATOR AND THE TROPICS IS SO IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE YOUR FIRST STEP ALWAYS.
Now you already have a quick and dirty vegetation map, you're halfway there! Don't worry if there are some doubtful areas, real world geography can be weird.
Now for the REAL fun stuff (if you aren't having fun already, I sure am): making civilizations!
You have to decide center of origins for your domesticated crops and animals. Basically, every early civilization had its own "package" of staple crops and animals that are still used today.
With this, you can decide:
the primary civilizations of your world
roughly how different animals and vegetation are distributed, if you want an Earth-like world (for an quicker method, you can apply the biogeographical realms to your own continents as you wish)
A quick cheat sheet of centers of origin, what they have, and where you can place them:
(this is just a quick thing, do read the article it's so much better)
Middle Eastern: wheat, barley, cows, sheep, goats. Place them in a dry area with lots of rivers (the Fertile Crescent!)
East Asia: rice, soybean, oranges, pigs, horses. Place it in a rainy temperate area bordering the tropics.
Mesoamerica: Corn, beans, pumpkin, chilli, tomato. Place it in a dry area near the tropics.
Andes: Potato, quinoa, llamas. Place it in a mountain range.
Tropical South America: manioc, peanuts, pineapple. In the tropics.
Tropical Asia: Rice, banana, sugar cane, beans. In the tropics, again.
or, just straight up use this fucking map, it's so much better:
Tumblr media
You can mix and match the crops, animals, and such as you wish, and you should definitively read the wiki page on center of origins and see some other less known crops.
If you have non-human civilizations, of course they'll have different packages. Carnivore or subterranean civilizations might be very different. But at this point, your imagination should be flying already and I don't have to hold your hand here.
Now, you have a rough map of your world at the dawn of agriculture! Congratulations! Depending on the historical period you're setting your world, you can start to draw countries and civilizations. This is where it gets complicated again. I might have to make a part two... But just with this, you already have a new world to use as you wish.
I'll make a worked example later to show you how easy it is if you don't believe me.

WHY haven't I thought of this?!!?
This is just awesome!🔥
Oh, and I lovveeeee how the Title "The Hobbit and the Beast" is designed 😍⭐️
I like Beauty and the Beast cartoon. And I adore Bagginshield. These two universes were made for each other…
Tumblr media
Okay, this must have already been thought up, drawn or written by someone before me because it's so perfect and obvious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the kingdom of Erebor lives the greedy and rude King Thorin. One day he refuses to shelter an old man in his beautiful castle under the mountain. The old man turns out to be the ancient dragon Smaug. He is enraged. He sends a curse on the King and his entire kingdom. Smaug turns the King into a monster and his inhabitants into utensils of gold.
And so Balin becomes a clock (Cogsworth). Instead of one candelabra (Lumiere), there are two bigger and smaller ones, Fili and Kili. Ori becomes a cup (Chip). And Dori into a teapot (Mrs. Potts).
Not far from the castle is the small town of Shire. Here lives a strange family of Beggins: Bilbo and his nephew Frodo. They are unsociable, a little strange, in no hurry to start a family.
Bilbo loves stories, books, maps and dreams of long journeys and adventures. But the most popular and rude hobbit in the Shire, Azog (Gaston), wants to take Bilbo in marriage.
One day Frodo leaves town and ends up in the castle of a monster. But Bilbo finds him and offers to stay in return. And that's where the story really begins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And just Bilbo's vest of perfect yellow color from the first part of The Hobbit (the first meeting with Gandalf), in which he dances with the Beast-Thorin to the song Beauty And The Beast…
Sorry if there's a bunch of dumb mistakes in the text, I'm terrible at English ._.
