im forever emotional about 2009 spock and kirk because spock has been told his whole life that he needs to stop being emotional and that it's invalid and stupid and if you can't justify something logically then you shouldn't do it.
but then here comes jim kirk who blows all of that out of the water. who says, i am ruled by emotion, i follow my gut, i defy all logical odds. he stands for everything spock has been taught to hate, and yet...it works for him. spock literally watches in real time how kirk breaks all the rules and is celebrated for it.
it makes me emotional because i think it would be so healing for spock to get close to jim and to learn how to listen to his intuition and to be praised for his emotionality. imagine being told your whole life that you inherently have a weakness, and then meeting someone who's strength comes from that very same "weakness." jim changes spock's life in a very real way by breaking down his past traumas just by existing. no wonder spock loves him.

Star Trek TOS play Minecraft!
-Jim is the server owner. He has good intentions despite…how it ends up going.
-Spock IMMEDIATELY takes off exploring. He eventually settles with Jim, though. (“Sure we can share a base, Spock!”)
-Sulu and Chekov disappear. No one has seen them since they spawned in. They did talk about a secret base, but they’ve become like cryptids to the server. (They saved Scotty once from a spider but no one believes him)
-Uhura wants to actually finish the game and focuses mostly on that. She stays in a random villager’s house, but makes sure to “contribute” to their farms and feeds the cows.
-Bones ends up staying with Kirk and Spock because he keeps dying to zombies. He takes over as the builder because “Damnit, Jim! I’m not living in a wood cube!” (They live in a literal three by four house with two beds and a crafting table.)
-Kirk loves mining and collects any resources Spock asks of him, even though he keeps getting stuck in caves and ravines.
-Spock eventually goes down to find him and brings him back up. (He made a compass and uses torches)
-Bones and Spock fight over organizing the chests, as well as the ethics of starting a pig farm. (“Bread is perfectly suitable as a food source. Killing and trapping these animals is immoral.” “But cooked pork heals way faster!”)
-They settle on a cow and chicken farm so Spock can make them cakes and soup.
-Scotty spends so long looking up redstone builds and he doesn’t even have a house yet.
-Sulu and Chekov suddenly show up to TNT McSpirk’s house. They get banned from the server and ridiculed irl by Jim. (“Do you have any idea how long I spent getting seventeen diamonds?!”)
-Uhura kills the ended dragon and never logs back on.

A study on Spock’s half-Vulcan upbringing! (By: not a scientist at all.)
I may write a character study on this eventually, but it’ll be rambling for now.
There are typically two versions of Spock’s young behavior that we see in media and fanfiction.
1.) A “too emotional” child in Vulcan standards. (TAS, AOS, Etc.)
2.) An absolutely repressed child that outwardly resembles a “perfect” Vulcan. (TOS, Discovery, etc.)
Neither is really better than the other. That all comes down to personal taste.
But I want to take a quick look into this second option real fast, because it developmentally fascinates me.
When human children develop attachments to their main caretaker, they often seek this adult out physically. They run in crying, or babbling, or trying to gather this parent’s attention in a way that will meet their needs.
When said caretaker fulfills these needs by comforting a hurt child, or engaging in their joy, this helps to develop a healthy and secure attachment style.
Vulcans, as we know, are taught to outwardly suppress expression of their emotion, but this is not always necessarily unhealthy in this development. Why? Because they hold a telepathic bond to their caretakers.
When a Vulcan child is in need, they may reach out through their bond and receive comfort without even moving from their spot. They no longer need to seek out this caretaker physically, unless there is a specific reason to.
NOW! Let’s talk about Spock!
As a mostly biologically Vulcan child, he would have a telepathic link to his primary caretaker to call upon in these early developmental stages. Unlike a human child, he likely won’t cry or laugh or scream to get Amanda’s attention, by instinct.
The problem is, Amanda is human and can’t fulfill his needs telepathically. He will reach out and receive nothing in way of comfort or interaction. It’s the Vulcan equivalent of a caretaker ignoring Every. Single. Connection. This child attempts to make.
He’s hungry? Mom can’t hear him ask for food. He’s upset? No one will comfort him. He’s happy? Not a single response.
A little insert here, but this is extremely similar to the effects seen in the Still Faced Experiment.
(For those unfamiliar, the mother engages normally with her infant for a period, then suddenly stops completely. She shows no expression or reaction to ANYTHING the infant does, even crying. Eventually, it ends and she comforts the infant, but the child’s reaction is clearly distress from the lack of reaction and long term effects can deduced)
Eventually, Spock may realize he needs to physically act in order to get this attention, but there’s no telling how quickly that may happen, or if it happens in a human standard way either.
And once he’s taught to suppress his emotions, even that outlet becomes unusable.
Now, this could be partially avoided by Sarek also holding a mental bond with Spock; but if he’s often away from home or off world, then he can’t very well provide the same way Amanda would be expected to.
But the nature of Spock and Sarek’s relationship also could imply that they may not have a telepathic bond at all. It’s not likely a Vulcan child is born with a bond to the parent who didn’t physically grow them, so why would Spock have a bond to Sarek so early? Especially when Sarek and Amanda seemed to have functioned as a more traditional couple (at least, until Amanda can continue her own career as a teacher).
All this combined would result in a child with a dismissive-avoidant attachment to both parents. He would have to learn to provide for himself much earlier on and not trust his needs to be met by his parents.
In addition, Vulcan society would provide no other fill in for him to cling to. If Sarek and Amanda can’t engage with him emotionally, outside Vulcans certainly wouldn’t. Especially as they ostracize him for being half-human.
So, when Spock meets Jim, who he’s made a real attachment to and starts to engage emotionally with, he becomes anxious and would rather go through Kolinahr than risk the identity he’s already convinced himself he is.
In an ideal world, both Sarek and Amanda would’ve created telepathic, two-way, bonds to Spock as quickly as possible after his birth to ensure they can both take care of his needs as he expressed them.
(I also want to say, Sarek and Amanda are not bad people for this! They were simply unprepared for the reality of a half-Vulcan, half-human child and how to provide for his unique needs.)

Part 2 of Blood Where Roses Should Be is out! Guess that means a visual guide for Spock’s flowers!
Slight spoilers for the fic below!
Note: these are all real flowers, but my sources in their meanings may not be 100%, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
Camellia
(Scene: Shore leave)
Often meaning “adore you”. Idk they just looked really pretty.
Tumblr media
Rhododendron
(Scene: “Help”)
Meaning warning. They usually grow in clusters like this.
Tumblr media
Orchid
(Scene: Shelter from crystals)
Orchids are often given to people who fall ill. Not much meaning themselves.
Tumblr media
Lilac
(Scene: Mind meld)
Stands for beginning love. Very innocent flowers, but maybe a little pesky when they grow out of your skin?
Tumblr media
Dandelion
(Scene: Bullies)
Technically a weed, but they symbolize youth.
Tumblr media
Sweet Pea
(Scene: Celebration)
Beautiful and known for their sweet smell. They’re usually used for perfumes. But Spock already said all this in the scene;)
Tumblr media
Poppies
(Scene: Gorn)
A sign of remembrance. Doesn’t serve the scene much but I wanted to include them.
Tumblr media
Gerbera
(Scene: Buried in sand)
Symbolize truth. This was also going to the flower in the “help” scene before I changed my mind.
Tumblr media
Forget me not
Scene isn’t written yet!

HELP !!!!
Guys, thank you so much to everyone who helped me with Ted! You are amazing! I made a post explaining exactly what happened to him. Now I am a back on what I was saving for rent (almost back to 0) and I need to pay it up until the 30th or I'll have to leave. It's 10 days past the due date and I'm getting daily messages from my landlady remembering how many days I've got left. My usual commission price is 30$ but I'll put it down to 20$ until rent is paid. If you need any art I am more than willing to make my best to deliver an art with a lot of love put into it!

I wanted to share the Vulcan flowers I used in Roses Where Blood Should Be.
Note: all of these Vulcan plants are true to Star Trek material.
Also, light spoilers for the fic!
Favinit:
(Scenes: match to Vulcan flowers, and Mind Meld)
Based off the Bromeliad. Favinits are described as spicy, sharp flowers, so the bromeliad felt a perfect fit.
Tumblr media
Adun Cactus:
(Scene: poking Jim’s back scene)
Based on the Daydream cactus’s flowers. Adun cacti are used as water sources for Vulcan travelers. This was a symbol of Spock’s Kahs-wan (mentioned in Star Trek: animated series, ep2)
Tumblr media
Cir-Cen:
(Scene: same scene, but only mentioned)
Based on the Pincushion. The Cir-cen cactus is noted to be hard to cut, has red thorns, and very tasty water, apparently.
Tumblr media
Vulcan Ground Creeper:
(Scene:Not named, but shown in Tarsus IV scene)
Based on the blue Water Lily. The Ground Creeper flowers ever 100 years and migrates close to bodies of water.
Tumblr media
Kylin’the:
(Scene: first scene with Bones in medbay)
Based on the Red Hedgehog Cactus. Like the Red Hedgehog, Kylin’the is a plant used for medical reasons, which is how Bones recognized it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chamuz:
(Scene: Amanda’s flower post Journey to Babel)
Both based Rhubarb flowers. Left is Amanda’s, right is Jim’s hybrid version. Chamuz is a tree with fruit like rhubarb, so I thought this one was obvious. Also said to be pink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
White Star of Night:
(Not yet written!)
This one is a secret for now, but just know it’s based on the Nightshade flower. The White Star of Night, also known as the Death Star (ikr), can kill if it pollinates with other flowers of difference species.

Hey y’all! I finally got the first chapter of my Soulmates Spirk fic done!
Summary: They've been there Jim's entire life. Flowers and flora bursting from his skin in stripes and bundles where his soulmate's skin bleeds. It's not unusual, of course. Nearly everyone gets flowers by their early years, sometimes even newborns, if they're so unlucky. They disappear with time, of course, but it's become a celebrated milestone in a human's life. Like learning to walk or talk.
But the thing about Jim's flowers, is they aren't from Earth. They're from Vulcan.

Spock starts as DM and gets kicked as you said and replaced with Scotty (it’s fine, Scotty’s DMPC is an artificer).
Kirk plays a human Paladin who does all the shopping for the party.
Uhura is a bard gnome and gets upset when her “very well traveled” character can’t speak a certain language.
Bones plays a cleric because he got so stressed with everyone dying that he had to switch from barbarian in Scotty’s game.
Sulu is a finesse fighter who’s focus is finding a nemesis and getting loot.
Chekov plays a ranger character based off of Rasputin or some Russian figure but ends up with critical fail curse (always rolls 1s) and sets off traps by going straight ahead.
Spock rejoins as a Vulcan (Scotty had to edit the Elf race for him because he got miffed human’s an option and not Vulcan) and would either be another cleric or a well educated wizard.
Spock: “I mind meld with-“
Scotty: “You’re wearing gloves”
Spock: “Then I cast detect thoughts.”
Kirk: “no! I take the hit for Bones!”
Bones: “like hell! You’re half health! Just let me get hit!”
Spock: “I use my suspected action and cast fireball over only myself and the monster.”

saw a tweet on them playing dnd and had to doodle something for it...
I think after this experience either Kirk or Scotty would take over dming lol.
Last doodle is from weeks ago but I figured I could drop it here as well, though I didn't know how to draw the characters too well yet
