You had always known that your mother was a free spirit. She had never settled down in one place or with one person. She had brief flings but never anything that lasted longer than a few weeks, and that was how she liked it. You also knew that you were the product of the only fling she had, that had lasted more than a few weeks. 

Apparently she had been with this guy for almost six months, before she got caught up in another bout of whimsy, and simply left without a word, only finding out she was pregnant with you, after she was long gone. You knew that she didn’t have a mean spirit, that she was blunt with anyone she got involved with, that one day she would just leave, it was just how she was. But still you couldn’t help but wonder if they had ever wondered where she went, or known that she was pregnant. You supposed it didn’t matter, you were happy with your life, your mother was loving and attentive, never neglecting you, despite being such a free spirit who hated being tied down by anything. You had been to places, others could only have dreamed of, and had a very happy upbringing, flitting all over the world.

It just would have been nice, if your mum had mentioned a little earlier, that the guy she shacked up with, was a God.

Before you were born, your parents made a pact with a fae. You’re not sure what they got in exchange, but apparently you were the price. They were perfectly okay with that, and even told you as such, very bluntly, the night before you turned eighteen, the night you were meant to be taken. The only problem, is that now you’re in your twenties, travelling around the world all alone, and still waiting for the other shoe to drop. 

They never did show up to steal you as they had claimed, despite your parents having gotten everything they wanted and more. It certainly explained their cold detachment to you growing up, but you wondered what it meant for you. What did they have planned for you in the first place, and why didn’t they ever show?
