Every time I go back to the criminal minds fandom, within three minutes I see Will/Willifer hate and remember why I started slowly removing myself. Yāall would rather have your favorite character be a full-blown cheater (and in Spencer/Emilyās case an intentional homewrecker) than accept that willifer is like the epitome of a healthy relationship. Yāall would rather make JJ and Emily/Spencer actual terrible people than admit that Will is actually one of the most genuine, respectful and caring men on television. Yāall are actually insane. Honestly put respect on Will LaMontagne Jrās name. My man took a single look at Jennifer Jareau and said āsheās it for meā and flirted his ASS off at every possible opportunity. Treated her like a goddamn queen on that very first case and then did long distance for her. He literally flew back and forth from New Orleans to DC in his free time just to see her and he KNEW she was the one even when she almost ended it. He quit his job, which he loved, and left the city he adored and called home, to move to DC and be with her and their son. She rejected his marriage proposal and he just continued to treat her like a goddess among men. He literally didnāt care about anything as long as he got to be with her. Will LaMontagne Jr. would do anything and everything for Jennifer Jareau and some of yāall need to open your eyes i stg
Alex I canāt stop thinking about Shiv feeling like she has to straighten her hair and wear tight revealing clothes sheās not comfortable in to be noticed and looked at and respected š
god i have sooo many thoughts about her relationship with femininity and being a woman.
growing up with logan and caroline as your parents, she could never win. caroline wanting her to be a proper Lady so she doesnāt embarrass her and that obviously involved a lot of comments about her figure and weight that she internalized. logan wanting her to look Pretty and Feminine so he can show her off to his business buddies (makes me nauseous just to think about). everyone around her telling her what she should be and no one bothering to ask her what she actually wants. that would drive her crazy and make her like she doesnāt feel in control in her own skin. i headcanon her having a ārebelā phase in her teens when she dressed more like a tomboy and didnāt put on make up and dressed however she liked. but that wouldnāt last, not really. in that family.
when sheās in college she had her Party Girl phase (which is canon) where she turned to alcohol and sex as a coping mechanism (which is very similar to kendall but thatās for another post jkfldfkjg) and iām assuming let herself wear tight revealing clothes because she doesnāt feel real in her own body and doesnāt know who she is outside of being a Roy and all that entails. and sheād have even less of an idea what being a woman means to her because all the women around her growing up were either women who were exploited by logan and his buddies or women he worked with who tried to be respected but were shunned at every turn.
and then fast forward to s1 where she feels comfortable in her comfy clothes, her hair is curly, sheās spent enough time away from logan to be able to oppose and disagree with him. but obviously that doesnāt last as sheās pulled in by him into his orbit and starts dressing like what she feels a professional should dress like but, again, i feel like thatās just her playing at being a person. thatās not her. but then again she doesnāt know who she /is/.
and lastly -- backend of season 3. god she felt so lost then, being jerked around by logan all season and then with the added humiliation of him choosing roman over her, even after SHE saved the company in 3.05. and on the other end tom tracking her cycles and essentially wanting to babytrap her. she tried playing at being a business person but all sheās met with is misogyny and dismissal so i guess in her mind she felt she had to swing the other way. but no matter how much she changes herself into something sheās not it wonāt ever matter to logan because sheāll always be a Woman first. and thatās a black mark.
I really donāt love how Shiv was mostly referred to as āTomās wifeā by everyone and their mothers.
Itās so gross that her father literally doesnāt even say her name, but instead demeans her to āwifeā as if she isnāt her own person and all she stands for in life, and her role in society is to be Tomās wife.
Furthermore, ignoring her name dehumanizes her completely. At this point, thereās not even acknowledging that she is a person beyond being a wife. Her only value is as a wife, other than that, she means and is nothing.
Alas, another rant about Shiv and her relationship with femininity and the dehumanizing of her gender that she is subjected to and forced to endure, furthering her internalized misogyny and overall outlook and being a woman. Since sheās been constantly seen as less than because sheās a woman, she struggles to conceptualize that she has value as a woman.
Okay, but Shiv in the teaser thingy highkey reminds me of her scene in the car with Tom in Too Much Birthday. Just like- her whole vibe and positioning is very similar idk
Maybe Iām just actually insane, but even the way sheās sitting is a very similar stance in both scenes; she just looks so fucking tired, like ācould sleep for 72 uninterrupted hoursā tired yk. The lighting is different which is interesting to me and ONLY me. Iāll shut the fuck up now.
