winter 2020, cold of night, shooting under a full moon with @alafemmegaze. It was March 2020. The city shut down days later. We wondered what would become of our #queerspace and new meanings got mapped onto our image-making. The brilliant @jonfeinstein at the incredible @humbleartsfoundation interviewed me about Shimmer Shimmer and the questions were thoughtful, respectful and fun to answer. Feeling gratitude for folx like these. FINAL DAYS to see ‘Shimmer Shimmer’ by 2019 Workspace Resident @lorenzotriburgo and his partner, @alafemmegaze. ✨ • The shimmer of glitter on Triburgo’s figure suggests a mythical, celestial presence and hints at a connection to astrology, an important mode of connecting with queer community for Triburgo and Van Dyck. The still lifes of glitter as “constellations” reiterate this connection and signal to the viewer that the title Mars, for example, refers to the planet not the (gendered) god. • Exhibition Dates: October 7 - November 4, 2020. Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 12pm - 6pm. • Images: Mars and Conjunction, from the series Shimmer Shimmer. #Repost @baxterstccny https://www.instagram.com/p/CHBDQcFlDIz/?igshid=giwyln3on8i5

#Repost @baxterstccny ・・・ We are so excited for 2019 Workspace Resident Lorenzo Triburgo’s solo exhibition ‘Shimmer Shimmer,’ on view at 126 Baxter St starting Wednesday, October 7th! This work, made in collaboration with Lorenzo’s partner Sarah Van Dyck, features all new figurative and still life photographs created in 2020. The exhibition draws from a history of queer visual activism, artists using New York City as a site of political disruption, and feminist use of the body as a political site - while staying true to Triburgo’s proclivity for camp aesthetics. • Exhibition Dates: October 7 - November 4, 2020 • Baxter St at CCNY is reopening our doors starting on October 7th. Please wear a mask while you are in the gallery. If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, or have had any contact with someone who has recently tested positive, we request that you please postpone your visit. https://www.instagram.com/p/CF3AqU4lEHB/?igshid=o9nxtt236iky

I interviewed @jasminemurrell for @lenscratch this summer. Our conversation wandered and circled, was full of love, and — as always — Jasmine’s casual brilliance. Image copyright @jasminemurrell ・・・ Photographers on Photographers: Lorenzo Triburgo in conversation with Jasmine Murrell "So to be an artist, it is an act of resistance. But on the other side I remember when I first went to undergrad and my father came to visit me and he was such an artist, he used to just kind of make things but he never felt in his wildest dreams that he would ever be able to pursue art because he was always trying to provide you know, substance and food, so it always comes back to having access to some – thing. I remember looking at him, he was just like in an awakening, like, “Wow, this is a possibility. My daughter is going to be able to pursue art.” But there are some artists, they didn’t have the privilege of going to art school, and art was this calling for them. Several of my friends with the queer collective “How Do You Say Yam in African?” (YAMs for short) were completely like that. They were some of the most amazing artists and they literally were living in mostly poverty. So yeah, it’s like everything is kind of a mixture of gray, you know?" @lorenzotriburgo @jasminemurrell http://lenscratch.com/2020/09/photographers-on-photographers-lorenzo-triburgo-in-conversation-with-jasmine-murrell/ (at Brooklyn, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE5PLmolfTc/?igshid=twed752o87rn
