hi aaron. i have an ask about the ending of wizards!! (hoping it hasnt been asked yet)

i believe(?) i read that one of the ideas for post-full-troll jim was for him to become a changeling. was there a reason he turned fully human again instead? thank you!!

For Wizards, we’d originally planned for Claire to use her new mastery over dark magic to turn Jim into a changeling, just as Morgana originally created them back in the Middle Ages. (Merlin couldn’t do it or refused to acknowledge the possibilities its powers, because he never learned or trusted dark magic.) Jim would have been able to shift between human, half-troll and beast form at will — or perhaps via his emotions, not unlike The Hulk.

This ending was altered when those working on the follow-up film determined Jim’s arc for the movie would revolve around him coming to terms with losing his powers and being “merely human” during the magic apocalypse. Sadly, our ending simply wouldn’t work with that direction for the film.

For the curious, I’ve attached a small snippet of the original outline grid to see how it would have slotted in rather elegantly.

Being a writer is the internal battle of "How dramatic can I make these characters" and "how DUMB and BRAINLESS can I make these characters and how can I ensure their interactions are mind-numbing hilarity" and there is no in between.

Meet the Parallel Crew: Ed

Time to talk about the characters that'll show up a bit more! We've met Ed and Bee briefly (and I will yap about them)- but did you know that Ed starts out hUMAN in the story? Yeah, that's right i got monsterboys. Are you gonna know HOW?... No, it's my lil secret :3c (but like... you will get a lot of monsterboy Ed because he's honestly really fun to draw)

But Ed is one of my favorite characters. I like to project onto him. Born and raised in a mafia called the 'Undercrowns' Ed has had a chill life and is held up to very high standards by his parents. However, due to fear and sheltering he's not well versed in what the world is going to need from him, and while that WAS to be fixed after his parent's party, it would never be and he'd have to figure out the world by himself- with the help of his friend Gus of course! Ed, when he was first implemented into the story started out as a sassy bastard. He used to be rude and stern and just basically hid all his terror behind a cocky smile. However, I tend to create soft boys? On accident? A LOT? He slowly became a very anxious and touch starved- though he still puts on his little front as a stoic, confident, mafia prince. We get to see him more soft and overthinking more often. He's very sensitive about his appearance, since that's the big thing his parents had hammered into him: "It's about presentation." But he gets to learn to tackle that insecurity over many occasions.. Along with the insecurity of following what was laid out for him by someone else. He's learning to be his own man 🥺 Now the white creature? that's his parallel, Scream! I haven't talked about parallels yet, but they're basically dopplegangers of the humans- so Scream is an Ed doppleganger. He's more arrogant than his counterpart, but we love him all the same.

people might think creating OC lore involves a lot of thinking & planning, but in my personal experience, OC development is more like a divine vision from a god slamming you over the head with a mallet while ur doing the fuckin dishes or folding laundry

Soooo this is Ed (Right) and Bee (Left). This is actually a bit later in the story, but i just really enjoy drawing them like this (ahem, he doesn't look like this at first) And trust me, these two are very very wholesome and kind to each other, she just got pissed off by his shenanigans. They are my otp and I will talk about them a lot 🤣

Parallels: An introduction.

I've been wanting to talk about my original story for some time, I know tumblr isn't quite famous for influencing its hosts original works, but hey! If you like monsters, multiverse stuff, magic and bonding with creatures this is for you! Now there is A TON of exposition that revolves around this story (as well as almost 5 years worth of lore. But we'll make this simple! Starting with what this story is.

Welcome to the world(s) of Parallels! Parallels is a urban fantasy taking place on earth in the year 2021. We are introduced to our main protagonist: Edgardo (Ed) Archambeau, who is being initiated into the 'Family Business' and beginning to take more lucrative tasks. However, an accident occurs and he loses everyone and everything. Though down on his luck, he is pulled from the ditch of his remorse by his parallel: a supernatural and loyal creature that is created alongside the birth of every* child. With this, the parallel rescues and takes Ed to the aid of a long forgotten friend, and they're able to reacquaint and learn that there is more to Ed's family accident than meets the eye.

This story is very heavily centered around finding your place in life beyond what's expected, self love in the form of a physical creature (and learning to love it even when its ugly), and becoming more than your past.

Again this is only a very quick thing on what the story is, there is a LOT of characters, subplots and lore that i'd love to share with everyone.

WELL HAI

You know I realized i never introduced myself, and honestly that would probably be a good thing to do before really diving into any stories I might talk about here.

But anyways: Hello! I'm Split, but people also call me: Lore, Able, Beo, Madman, etc. I'm just a lil guy who likes to create stories and draw. Yes, I draw XD you can find my art and characters on Toyhouse or on Instagram. I am an adult, and I work part time as a Barista for our wonderful caffeine overlord the Starbucks Siren and part time student. What am i studying? I honestly don't know anymore-

But the fun stuff! What do I create? I'm a character designer! And if you haven't read any of my previous posts I like to make monsters! Most of them fall under the 'monsterboy' category (I love me a pathetic male character with angst in his monster form). But hey, I love myself a feral female monster to pair with that! I can draw just about anything with enough time and willpower, but backgrounds are my NEMESIS. how do people make them look so simple-

You'll see me actively talk about Trollhunters and Tales of Arcadia, but I might throw in some Arcane, Beauty and the Beast, some My little pony, How to train your dragon and maybe some Ghibli or Disney. I really like animation tbh.

My original works however are my CHILDREN. Inspired by so many fictional works and heavily revolved around CREETURS. I am actively working on a webcomic called Parallels! This has been in works since Covid. It's the star child, it gets all my attention and will one day be brought up here unless i chicken out because 'oh no, people'. But it has my favorite trope: pathetic male lead (i promise he's actually really dependable) My second big story is called Aglaeca Chronicles! It's my fall back when i'm stuck but it also has pathetic male leads! And a LOT of favorite monster species.

And of course a big shout out to my lovely friend @a-nick because she deals with me regularly (also go check out her story Castor because she also has a wonderful pathetic male lead that I love)

And my wonderful friend @flittlocke who does a lot of great art work too!

Completely normal OC maker things

I am very normal about my characters. I have fan characters, and original characters. And i love them all very much. Because when I am making drinks for 8 hours a day, I go up to my headspace and go 'teehee silly lil guys' (I mean it probably looks like I am focusing, but I promise you that 4 years of doing it gives you autopilot for these jobs)

But all these stories blur the lines of: Split is up to something and it's probably monsters. Everytime. There is something creepy and toothy amongus.

For context; I am working on an original story involving monsters (It's called Parallels 🤭) HOWEVER, this tends to bleed into the fan stories I write on the side for funsies. These being Trials of Arcadia (which is my silly TrollHunter au that absolutely demolishes RotT because if you know you know) and Reignvale (which is actually a MLP au).

What is the connecting theme across all these seemingly disconnected head stories?
