🧵 THREAD: This #PrideMonth, don’t forget that the fight for queer liberation didn’t start or end with marriage equality.
💪✨ We need to keep fighting for our rights.
Here’s are a few examples:
💋 Before the 2003 Supreme Court ruling in Lawrence v. Texas, same-smex smexual activity was illegal in fourteen U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. military
👶 Before 2015, LGBTQ+ couples couldn’t adopt in all 50 states. Before the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, laws varied wildly by state.
🏳️🌈 Before 1973, the American Psychiatric Association listed homosmexuality as a ‘mental illness.’ In December 1973, a vote was successfully held to remove it.
🗳️ Before 1974, there were no openly gay elected officials. That changed with Kathy Kozachenko, who became the first openly gay American elected to public office in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
🎖️ Before 2011, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” banned LGBTQ+ people from serving openly in the military.
💍 Before 2015, LGBTQ+ couples couldn’t get married in all 50 states. At the time, laws varied by state, and while many states allowed for civil unions for same-sex couples, it created a separate but equal standard.
💼 Before 2020, employers could legally discriminate against queer and trans employees. It wasn’t until the U.S. Supreme Court held that an employer who fires or otherwise discriminates against an individual simply for being gay or transgender is in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

My take on straight romance in media
This topic has been on my mind for a while and I remember the internet exists so it’s time to put it to good use.

So whenever I just see straight romance in media like I’m TRULY desensitized. Not just desensitized but I find it gross and I will literally roll my eyes. Like, I was watching To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (great movie by the way!) and when I fr kept seeing Lara Jean kept getting shipped with Peter or like Josh I fucking forgot their names like I truely felt so annoyed as in the society we live in like the straight romances are so pushed that it like gets to a point. Like I truly wondered if the roles were reversed and that if 95% of media was gay they would all be saying how we’re pushing an agenda lol.
Another example I can give is Twilight. It’s basically this movie about like vampire romance or whatever I don’t give a shit but like I was trying to start watching to see the hype and the first 20 minutes were pissing me the fuck off like the girls annoying and the guy thinks he’s all that. I truly have never been so unappeased by a movie.
The only straight romances I’ve cared to like are the ones where the female takes the more dominating role and or more sort of powerful in the relationship??
Ik I’m ass at wording myself but whatever. An example of kinda what I’m talking about is Momo and Okarun from Dandadan
What I really meant to say is that I prefer straight romances that don’t ever so strictly follow FUCKING GENDER ROLES. In this anime Okarun (guy in glasses) is portrayed as a total loser geek nerd and Momo is portrayed as an absolute girlboss. And when they interact, they actually treat each other like equals and there isn’t like a 9383738 centimeter height difference where the guy is like the alpha and the girl is like a cute lil bunny.
I’m obviously not talking about irl straight relationships because that would be ridiculous. Go live your life!
Of course, I can’t finish this without talking about YURIIIII. Well more specifically just queer romances and why I find appeal in them.
I obviously find appeal in them as I can self project on the characters and bc I’m a little cute lil femme but that’s not the point. In queer romances, there are no gender roles and 99.99% of the time, there is no molesting or portraying harmful stereotypes. And because of this, queer storytelling can portray certain ideas and emotions that straight romances simply cannot.
That’s the end of my little rant! Please put your thoughts in the comments, I’m open for discussion :3
