More lavender sachets ..

..... on my work table today. Pieced from small off-cuts of felt, stitched onto a backing of recycled shirt fabric - embroidered embellishment next!

On my work table today:

A collage of projects 'on my work table today' - or put another way - time to be disciplined and finish some items before starting any more. On the top row, a few more of the vintage lavender hearts have been stitched, a new patchwork felt heart is ready for embroidery. On the bottom row: some Christmas heart decorations and two patchwork hanging hearts for Christmas. Both these last batches need some hand made cord for hanging - I'll make some lengths once I've assessed how many decorations are in need!

lavender hearts - work in progress. Lovely English lavender in my pretty Breton pottery bowl, threads and hearts - fabric scraps, upcycled fabric and ‘eco felt’ (from recycled plastic bottles) - practical moth deterrents and very pretty I think!

Embroidered Stencilled Bookmark on vintage cotton - Wild Roses

Vintage, waxed paper, stencils combined with fabric from a vintage tablecloth, and some fabric pens, have produced the design used for this wild rose bookmark, with ribbon tails.

Lunch from/(in) the garden

A salad of: rocket, freshly picked cherry tomatoes, home-grown cucumber, mint leaves, lemon balm, beetroot leaves, chive flower, nasturtium leaf and mustard leaves, with left-over, home-made (clearly - wonky shape a give away) salmon and honeyed leeks fishcakes.

I’m glad I kept these stencils

I try to aspire to this William Morris quotation - ‘ Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful. ‘. The ‘believe to be beautiful’ bit is OK. My personal choices, but I’m comfortable with housing stuff I like. The ‘know to be useful’ part is tricky. Its the ‘what ifs’ and ‘future maybe’s’ that cause my clutter. 

The box of stencils below belonged to one of my parents. Most likely my mother which would put its origins in the early 1940′s. It had been carefully kept as a treasured item and I didn’t feel comfortable about disposing of it. I had tried using the stencils with fabric paint - didn’t get good results - should have been disciplined and thrown them out at that point. Then I found some wonderful fabric pens ...... I am still stitching the first batch of items but more will follow.
