henrycavill To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years ago....the Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!  My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we've been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. That starting place shall, for now, remain a secret. Watch this space, though—more to come in time! #Warhammer @PrimeVideo @AmazonMGMStudios @WarhammerOfficial

This was purrfect 😻!! You’re very welcome for the tag and thank you for writing and sharing this! I loved this so much. Furry chonk and orange meatball! This cat knew what she was doing and bringing Walter to meet her owner. Picturing our tough sweater bear being all cute and lovey with this cat is very precious and makes the heart melt. I really enjoyed this fluffy story! You are amazing my sweet friend!! Fun and sweet read this evening.

Author’s Note: Thanks @lysarria for tagging me in this post and making me think of Walter and cute fur babies 💕 I don’t even know how this thing here happened, but I miss my favorite 🐻 and well… happy reading, I guess!

Walter has always had a soft spot for animals.
He had a dog when he was little - a happy mixed-breed the family adopted from a farmer they were friends with when Walter was eight. The pup snuggled up on the boy’s lap as they took him home in the car, and he soon became a faithful companion on all his journeys and adventures and a wonderful comforter for every kind of sorrow. In short, the best friend a boy could imagine.
It broke his heart when he joined the police academy and had to leave his four-legged friend with his parents. And even many years later, the picture of the two on that first day - the little boy with the tousled curls and beady eyes in his car seat and the sleeping furball in his lap - still holds a special place at the desk in Walter’s study.
He would have loved to have the same for Faye while she was growing up, but it wouldn’t have been fair to bring a dog home and leave all the care to Angie while he was away for work all day. And after the divorce, that topic was off the table anyway.

One night, Walter decides to go out on the back porch of his house in an attempt to let the cool air clear his head after a long day at the precinct. He sits down on the stairs to the backyard, balancing the pizza carton and a beer bottle on his lap when he hears a rustling noise in one of the bushes in front of him. He pauses for a moment, peering into the darkness.
At first, he sees two glowing eyes. Then the silhouette of a feline. And then, the twigs crackle as a large orange tabby cat trudges out of the bush and toward him - far from graceful and with its eyes fixated on the pizza slice in his hand.
“Oh no!” he mutters, hastily flipping the carton shut. “Don’t even think about it.”
Regardless of his words, the cat gets a wiggle on, crossing the remaining distance at a quicker pace. A step or two shy of his feet, it hesitates with an inquiring look. But its decision is made in the blink of an eye, and before he knows it, the cat rubs around his legs.
“Eh, excuse me?” Walter mumbles with irritation. “Aren’t you supposed to be shy or something? Flight instinct? No?”
The cat, however, now squashing itself through the space between his legs and the stairs, seems widely unimpressed by what he thinks should be cat behavior. On the contrary, it lets out a meow that sounds almost miserable before fastening its gaze back on the pizza.
“I see. Not shy if food is involved,” Walter mutters. “But that’s no food for you, mate.”
He stuffs the rest of the pizza into his mouth, almost snorting as the cat gives him a reproachful look.
“What? I bet it’ll give you the gripes. I mean, I have no clue about cats, but that cheese can’t be good for you. It’s not even good for humans if you think about it,” he mumbles with his mouth full, looking down at his lap and what is undeniably the beginnings of a belly. Yeah, that’s what happens if all you ever do is work, eat, and sleep, Marshall!
“Besides this, you don’t look malnourished either,” he says to the cat.
Quite the opposite, to be exact. But the furry chonk lets out another heart-rending meow before it makes a move toward the pizza carton.
“Ha, forget it!” Walter huffs, grabbing the carton and his beer before he makes his way back inside, shaking his head with a chuckle at the sounds following on his heels.
The cat shows up again as he sits on the back porch the following night. By pure chance, of course. And she returns the night after that. And the night after that. And maybe he catches himself at putting a bag of dry food into the cart at the grocery store the next Saturday. Even though he should know better.
Before he knows it, the orange meatball shows up at his back porch like a regular at the local pub. And before he know it, he names her Garfield - not very creative, especially for a female, but all the more fitting for her personality.

A few weeks later, you stop dead in your tracks as you catch sight of your cat rubbing around a stranger's legs in a driveway you just pass on your early morning walk through the neighborhood.
“Are you serious?” you involuntarily mutter as you watch them with your mouth agape.
Both man and animal turn their heads toward you. And while your cat strolls over to you with the most innocent expression on her face, the beefy man returns your look almost sheepishly.
“Are you her owner?” he asks, running his hand over his mop of dark curls.
“That I am,” you say, arms akimbo. “And are you the one who feeds her, too?”
“Afraid so,” the stranger confesses, and not even the scrubby full beard can conceal the hint of a blushing rising into his cheeks. “I must admit she was pretty… eh… convincing,” he adds with a careful smile that brightens as you laugh out loud.
“Oh, I know she is. But the vet said she needs to lose weight. I mean, she already lost a fair bit after I adopted her from the shelter here, but I was wondering why she didn’t lose any weight at all after I reduced her portions further. Cheddar, you little dodger!” you gently scold the little culprit who makes a move to sit her furry butt on your shoe.
“Cheddar?” the stranger asks, and as you raise your head, you see him grin at you.
And something about that grin - or the rest of his admittedly more than handsome appearance - throws you off the track.
“Um… yes,” you confirm, trying to ignore the mesmerizing pair of blue eyes returning your gaze. “Because of her… um… color. And because she seems to have a weakness for… um… cheddar cheese?” you trail off with a vague gesture.
And you lower your gaze, once more cursing your awkwardness around other human beings.
The stranger, however, doesn’t seem to be bothered by it.
“That seems quite fitting to me,” he declares in a warm voice, and as you raise your gaze, you see him looking at you without a touch of mockery and with nothing but interest. “I’m Walter, by the way. Walter Marshall,” he finally says, reaching out his hand.
Your hand seems to disappear in his as you tell him your name and he gives it a gentle squeeze before he lets go, maybe a millisecond too late.
“So, um…, I guess I should stop feeding her from now on, right?” he finally says, fidgeting with the black watch on his wrist. And it’s only then that you notice his police badge and the gun in the holster on his belt.
In case he tries to keep the tang of wistfulness from his voice, he fails miserably. And you hesitate for a moment, letting your eyes wander over the ragged front yard, the pickup that is in dire need of a wash, and the dark circles around his eyes while an image of him forms in your mind.
Maybe he works a lot and enjoys Cheddar’s visits when he comes home, you think to yourself.
“Maybe we could split her portions, so she can eat at your house and mine,” you hear yourself say. “I have a feeling that she likes calling in on you.”
“That might be mutual,” Walter admits, and the smile spreading across his face confirms your suspicion even more than his words.
“You would need to give her the food his vet prescribed for her, but other than that it’ll work well, I think. Maybe we-”
“Listen, um… I'm really, really sorry, but I’m afraid I’m running late for work,” Walter interposes sheepishly. “Would you be okay if we exchanged numbers so we can discuss what to do when I’m not pushed for time?”
“Oh, of course,” you smile. And while you type your number into his ancient smartphone, Cheddar makes her way back to Walter, purring like a motor and rubbing her head against the man’s knees as he pets her.
After Walter drives off, not without waving at you with a big smile that makes you feel oddly warm, you continue your walk home. This time, Cheddar strolls along the street with you, and you can’t help but think that she looks very pleased with herself.
