Today is the 80th anniversary of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, one of my favorite paintings of all times. A few years back, around his birthday, I suddenly had this strong desire to create a rendition of this masterpiece with my miniatures. What followed was 8 straight nights of measuring and arranging and a meaningful picture for me to cherish. I was honestly surprised by my own determination and then the reactions from the internet (It even got the attention of Smithsonian and Art Institute of Chicago where the original painting is on display.) We struggle to wade through our daily life in this harsh season. Seattle started the year with a brutal week of non-stop snow and biting cold weather that basically paralyzed much of the city. I have been so busy and stressed with work and commissions recently I can barely catch a breath and the weather in Seattle is not helping… This picture is one of my all time favorites I have done.
