FragPunk: A Promising Hero Shooter Held Back by Performance Issues
Tumblr media
Fragpunk is a dynamic hero shooter game that combines elements of popular games like Valorant, Apex Legends, and Overwatch. What truly sets it apart is its innovative Shard Card system, which changes the gameplay by allowing players to manipulate the rules each round. This unique card system offers a diverse set of opinions that can dramatically alter the course of the game, enabling players to break the rules and adapt their strategies and skills.
My Experience with FragPunk
FPS games are one of my go-to options when looking for a new game to play in my free time. After hearing many things about this game, one of them being similar to Valorant, a game I always find myself playing, I decided to give this game a go. Let me start off by saying it is not compatible on every device, considering it requires DirectX 12 support. The game warned me that it might not run well on my system, but I adjusted the settings, lowering the graphics quality and resolution to get more FPS.
First Impressions and Art Style
The game’s vibrant art style immediately caught my attention. Bold colors and punk-inspired character designs, like Nitro with her tactical gadgets and edgy aesthetic, stood out. Each hero felt distinct in both visual design and abilities, though my technical struggles sometimes overshadowed these strengths.
Gameplay Experience
I jumped straight into training mode to practice shooting, crouching, and basic movement. After the tutorial, I got into a deathmatch, a mode where Shard Cards can still be activated, adding the unpredictable. However, I encountered frequent lag spikes and ping instability, causing my crosshair to misalign or respond with delays.
Things worsened in actual matches. While playing with a friend, my FPS dropped to 12, turning the experience into a slideshow. Despite these issues, I got to play around with this hero named Nitro and her “Chug Chug,” a muti-function tactical drone that can be controlled remotely, which I found to be fun.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Fragpunk stands out as a dynamic hero shooter that offers a unique blend of strategy and fast-paced action. However, its technical demands may limit its player base.

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse: My Experience with Dead Rails on Roblox
Tumblr media
Dead Rails is a game on Roblox that takes place in 1899. A mysterious virus has spread around, hitting America with a zombie plague that was first discovered in Mexico. You and your friends will travel on a train in the zombie-infected desert full of mystery creatures in search of a cure. You and your friends will need to work together to make it out. On the way, you will at some point run out of fuel, so you will have to loot houses and kill zombies to move forward. Although they won't be your only concern, outsiders with weapons may appear, and vampires and werewolves appear in the night. By working together, you will be able to buy weapons and tools to defend yourself and protect yourself against what lies around the desert.

First Encounter
This was my first time playing. I hadn’t heard about this game until a couple of weeks ago. I only know so much from what I have seen on TikTok about this game, which seems to be currently very popular with the Roblox community. A new update was added to this game, allowing you to tame wolves. I remember seeing one creator who had a wolf, which I thought was pretty smart and hilarious, seeing how many wolves were on board with him. It seemed like a good strategy, considering he was able to escape.

Experience
When I first loaded into the game, I was in a desert with places around me, one of them being a trading post. My first task was to drag a gold bar to the table to sell it. I received 30 bucks and added it to the 20 I already had, making 50. I bought coal from the general store to refuel the train and get it running. I was off, but I ended up running out of fuel, luckily in a town. I was frightened to find so many zombies. One started to approach me. I had a shovel, so I started hitting them and used their corpse for fuel. After I had gotten fuel, I made the terrible decision to look at other places. I came across this place that was infected with them, and I was unable to escape, so I died.

Multiplayer Mishaps
After that, I decided to play with a team with strangers, hoping this second try would go better with a team rather than by myself. It started off well until we had someone who was an ass and decided not to stop the train after one of our teammates forgot to get back on. They stopped after someone told them they fell off and to stop the train, so they did for a bit. She got off to look for them, and as soon as she did, they started up the train again. I told them now two people weren’t on and she should probably stop. Instead, they said good. I was still with them, and zombies would appear, so I fought them back because there were two on them. That didn't mean anything since they told me to get off, and I refused, so they kept running the train when we were around some houses and stores. I got off for a second to see since they had asked if we should look around. This girl got back on and drove off. I was pissed and surprised at why you would play with a group and then decide to play by yourself when you could have gone into a lobby for one person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conclusion
Anyways, I would say my experience playing this game for the first time wasn’t great, although I liked the concept of the game and enjoyed it for a bit. I would say playing with friends is the move to go for sure, so next time I will. Overall, I would give this game another try with friends.

A Nostalgic Hike: Rediscovering the Charm of A Short Hike
Tumblr media
A Short Hike is a cozy adventure game where you join Claire, a bird on a mission to reach the summit of Hawk Peak to receive an important phone call. This journey is an unforgettable experience filled with so much to explore. Along the way, you’ll meet a variety of friendly characters, each with their own stories and quests. You can help them with tasks like finding seashells or uncovering hidden secrets and treasures. The game offers a relaxing atmosphere with fulfilling activities such as fishing, climbing mountains, gliding across the sea and even racing boats. With its soundtrack and open-world freedom, this game creates a delightful experience for players seeking a relaxing escape after a long day.

My Return to A Short Hike
Let me start by saying I haven’t played this game in 3 years, so I decided to give it another try. When I played this game before I was trying to figure out how to play on a controller, which didn’t allow me to get very far. Now that I have changed to keyboard and mouse, I needed to rebind the keys to my liking; after doing so, I was ready to give this game another go.
Tumblr media
First Impressions and Art Style
As I revisited A Short Hike after a three-year break, I was struck by the art style, which reminded me of older retro games from the 90s or those on the Nintendo DS such as Animal Crossing. This nostalgic aesthetic not only added to the game’s charm but also complemented its relaxing atmosphere, making it feel familiar and fresh.     When I first started playing, I was introduced to Claire, who is on a mission to reach the summit. I met her Aunt May, a ranger at Hawk Peak Provincial Peak, and began hiking. Along the way, I encountered a little kid who asked me if I knew how to glide and showed me how. Another kid asked for 15 shells, and I started collecting them around the island. I also met a beaver who taught me how to fish, which was a bit challenging at first. I ended up falling in the water because I pressed the wrong key but then I managed to get the hang of it.
Tumblr media
Engaging with Characters and Quests
I enjoyed doing tasks for the characters since you get money or useful tools to help you on your hike. I also loved hearing their stories. To progress, I had to collect a golden feather, which is essential for climbing and flying. I started looking for treasure boxes to buy a feather, as they contain money. After practicing on smaller walls, I moved to taller ones, using gliding to reach them. The game’s design encourages exploration and interaction with its charming inhabitants, making each moment feel both rewarding and enjoyable.
Tumblr media
Conclusion and Recommendations
Overall, the game offers a mix of adventure and relaxation, making each moment feel calming and exciting as you work towards your goal of reaching Hawk Peak. The game’s charming pixel art style and soundtrack enhanced the experience, creating a relaxing and engaging journey.

R.E.P.O
Repo is a funny, chaotic, co-op horror game that’s going viral, inspired by the popular game Lethal Company. You play as a robot created by some sort of computer intelligence. The objective is to collect valuable items in abandoned places like offices or mansions and extract them for money, be careful dropping an item as it will reduce its value. Try to avoid the horrifying creatures that may randomly appear when you are less expecting it. So, pay attention to any odd creatures that might try to interfere when trying to pile up money with your friends. Money can then be used to upgrade items to help fight against the various numbers of monsters.
I’m not particularly into horror games. I am a scary cat when it comes to scary games, and I tend to avoid them at all costs no matter what but this game caught my attention, the tailor-made it out to be a silly game to play with your friends, so I decided to check it out with a friend. It helps to play with someone when playing these types of games because I often find myself not knowing what to do when I come across a monster or any kind of obstacle.
This is my first time playing this game, we were given a cart we needed and needed to reach the mark of 9.324 dollars. We collected objects from bookshelves and around the room while avoiding monsters. As we were collecting more items I heard someone walking towards us so we went into another room that had bunk beds both of us hind under the beds to avoid the monsters that kept returning after being provided by my friend, who kept taunting it by saying, hey, over here and the thing is the monsters can hear your voice, they rushed over and started hitting us with lasers, we luckily survived.
Soon after we went back to searching when a duck appeared, we both panicked and screamed, which caused the duck to grow a bigger mouth, and it started following them, and a skeleton head suddenly started walking towards them, which attacked my duo, killing them. I was Unsure what to do since I managed to get away, so we decided to start a new game. In this other attempt, we reached our goal but then died by this clown shooting lasers at us. We died but respawned in a loser’s area. We both ended up dying because we didn’t kill each other, but tried to destroy the crown instead, we ended up losing the game.
Overall, it was a great game with a thrilling and exciting experience. The unexpected twist and challenges made it fun, I’d highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good horror game!

Rediscovering Minecraft: From Pocket to Java

Recently, I had the chance to dive back into Minecraft, a game I haven’t played in quite a while.  I used to play the pocket version, but I was excited to try the Java version, knowing it offered more possibilities. As I sat down to play the game, my friend joined me, and together we hopped into the world of Minecraft, we began playing around 12:00 PM on a Friday night.
Let me start off by saying I was a bit frustrated, I have only played the pocket version before. So, you can imagine the time I had trying to figure out what key did what, like opening my inventory or sprinting.  The first thing I did was create a world in creative mode, I spawned in a place surrounded with many trees, almost like a forest, I wasn’t sure what to do, kept clicking on any keys I found till I came across my inventory, ended up building a decent house although I stopped.
My friend decided for us to change to survival mode so, we dug a hole for shelter to survive the first night. One of my biggest fears has always been the mod monsters, I was able to conquer my fears, I was left alone and needed to kill monsters out of necessity.
As we progressed, we built a proper house by cutting down some trees, crafted a crafting table and a chest. We had to keep an eye on our health and food bar, which was a big part of survival mode. To make sure we had enough food, we created a small farm to grow crops.
Throughout our adventure, I learned to balance resources, building, and thanks to my friend’s experience, it made the transition from Pocket Edition to Java a bit easier.
