Chapter 3
---
It had been a week since Naruto and Sasuke’s fight, a tension-filled seven days that felt more like an eternity. The silence between them was palpable, a thick, oppressive force hanging over every interaction. Sasuke, stubborn to the core, refused to be the first to break. Normally, Naruto would have caved by now, his hot temper usually cooling after three days at most. But this time was different—something had shifted, and Naruto wasn’t budging either.
What might have been a petty squabble between friends had spiraled into something much more significant, affecting not just them but everyone around them. The school was on edge, the air charged with a volatile mix of emotions. Naruto, newly manifested as a dominant Alpha, was struggling to control his pheromones. His scent was wild and untamed, leaking through the ineffective scent patches he wore. The air was thick with his agitated Alpha scent—sharp, almost metallic, with an undercurrent of desperation that clung to the walls like smoke.
As Sasuke brooded in his seat, lost in the turmoil of his thoughts, someone slid into the chair beside him. “Sasuke, I would advise you to reconsider your stance,” a familiar voice murmured. “It is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain decorum when the entire school reeks of impending conflict.”
Neji’s tone was calm, polished, and measured, each word carefully chosen. He was one of the few people Sasuke considered a friend, though they weren’t as close as Sasuke and Naruto had once been. There was an unspoken understanding between them, forged by the shared burden of coming from prominent families with impossibly high expectations. But Neji had something Sasuke lacked—he was an Alpha, and that carried a weight of its own.
“I would sooner perish than yield to Naruto’s tantrum,” Sasuke responded curtly, pulling out his textbook as if to signal the end of the conversation.
Neji sighed, his white eyes watching Sasuke with a mix of concern and resignation. His long, silky black hair was tied back in a low ponytail, the loose strands catching the light as he tilted his head slightly. “Your resolve is admirable, but Naruto’s behavior is causing considerable disruption. His pheromones are agitating the Omegas and provoking the Alphas. Remind me, what was the cause of his anger?”
Sasuke scowled, his dark eyes narrowing. “It’s not my concern if the idiot can’t control his pheromones. He’s upset because he’s an imbecile.”
Neji didn’t respond immediately, simply giving Sasuke a look that conveyed understanding far beyond what Sasuke was willing to acknowledge.
The tension in the room spiked as Naruto entered, his presence impossible to ignore. His scent flooded the space, a wave of overpowering emotions that hit everyone like a physical force. The low growls of other Alphas rumbled through the room, a collective reaction to the intrusion of Naruto’s uncontrolled pheromones.
It was unbearable. The scent, once familiar and warm with hints of sunshine and something earthy, was now drowned in the stench of anger and sadness. It was suffocating, a thick, oppressive cloud that hung in the air, making it hard to breathe.
Sasuke hadn’t planned on doing anything, but as he glanced around the room, he saw the effect it was having on everyone. An Omega girl near the back was whimpering softly, her wide eyes filled with fear as she curled in on herself. Guilt gnawed at Sasuke's insides, sharp and relentless. It was his fault, after all. Naruto was angry because of him, and now everyone else was suffering because of their unresolved conflict.
Sasuke had decided a week was more than enough time for their ridiculous argument to drag on. He had been stewing in his frustration long enough, and now, the entire school was paying the price for Naruto’s stubbornness. The thought alone made his blood simmer with irritation. Resolute, he stood up abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor, earning him a few curious glances from the rest of the class. Without sparing anyone a look, he walked to the front of the room where Naruto was slouched in his seat, staring vacantly at the chalkboard.
Without a word, Sasuke grabbed Naruto by the arm, his grip firm, and started pulling him out of the classroom. Naruto’s startled yelp echoed through the room, followed by his loud protests. “Hey, asshole! Let go of me!” Despite the resistance in his voice, Naruto didn’t actually make any serious attempts to escape Sasuke’s grasp, which only fueled Sasuke’s determination.
Sasuke just rolled his eyes at Naruto’s outburst, tightening his grip as he dragged him through the hallways. The chatter of other students faded into the background as they made their way to the rooftop. The corridor was dimly lit, the air thick with the scent of disinfectant and the faint traces of Naruto’s agitated pheromones that clung to the walls. It was suffocating, a scent that gnawed at Sasuke’s nerves, making him grit his teeth in annoyance.
When they reached the rooftop, Sasuke pushed the door open with a force that made it creak ominously on its hinges. The fresh air hit them like a wave, a stark contrast to the stifling atmosphere of the school. He shoved Naruto forward, watching as he stumbled and landed unceremoniously on his butt. Naruto winced slightly, the rough landing clearly catching him off guard, but he was quick to scramble to his feet, glaring at Sasuke with a mixture of anger and confusion.
“What the fuc—”
Before Naruto could finish, Sasuke cut him off, his voice cold and sharp like the wind that whipped through the rooftop. “You fucking stink, and you’re bothering everyone else with your smell.”
Naruto’s expression twisted in anger, his fists clenching at his sides. “Well, it’s none of your business what I do, sound familiar?”
Sasuke ignored the jab, rolling his eyes at Naruto’s attempt to turn his own words against him. “Do you not know how to control your fucking pheromones?” he demanded, his tone laced with irritation. The pungent scent of Naruto’s uncontrolled pheromones was still thick in the air, like a storm cloud that refused to dissipate.
Naruto’s gaze flickered away, a stubborn set to his jaw as he repeated, “Like I said, it’s none of your business.”
Sasuke felt his irritation morph into something sharper, more insistent. “Naruto, what do you want? I’ll tell you anything as long as you stop releasing that horrible smell.”
Naruto’s expression softened slightly, a hint of relief washing over his features, but the oppressive scent of his pheromones remained. “I want you to apologize and tell me who and when you had sex.”
Sasuke bit his lip, the request catching him off guard. Apologizing was something he loathed, a bitter pill he could never quite swallow. But the memory of the chaos Naruto had caused over the past week made him reconsider. “First of all, I’m not going to apologize, I wasn’t in the wrong. And secondly, why the fuck are you so interested in my sex life?”
Naruto’s scent spiked again, this time more potent, more aggressive, and it made Sasuke wince involuntarily. The acrid smell was unlike anything he had experienced before, making his stomach churn. Normally, he wasn’t bothered by pheromones—he had learned to suppress his Omega side long ago—but this was different.
Naruto took a step closer, his eyes boring into Sasuke’s with an intensity that made Sasuke’s heart skip a beat. It was in that moment that Sasuke truly saw him, not as the annoying boy he had known for years, but as the Alpha he had become. Naruto’s once lean frame was now filled out with muscle, his presence commanding, and he stood a few inches taller than Sasuke. The realization was jarring, unsettling in a way Sasuke hadn’t anticipated.
“Fine, you don’t have to apologize, but as your best friend, I want to know who you slept with,” Naruto said, his voice lower, more controlled now, but no less demanding.
Sasuke sighed, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He had no desire to drag this out any longer, especially when the truth was gnawing at his conscience. He had always prided himself on his honesty, on his integrity, and yet here he was, standing on the precipice of a lie that had spiraled out of control.
“I lied,” Sasuke admitted, his voice barely above a whisper as he looked down at the ground, unable to meet Naruto’s gaze. “I’ve never had sex with anybody.”
The words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of his confession. And then, as if a switch had been flipped, the oppressive scent that had clung to Naruto like a second skin vanished, replaced by the familiar warmth of his usual scent. It was like standing in the middle of an orange grove at the height of summer, sweet and citrusy, enveloping Sasuke in its comforting embrace. It was almost disorienting, the sudden change making Sasuke feel as though he had been plunged into a different reality altogether.
“Why’d you lie?” Naruto asked, his tone lighter now, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. It was as if the past week had never happened, as if he hadn’t been emitting the most horrible pheromones just moments ago. The ease with which he shifted his mood only served to deepen Sasuke’s shame and frustration.
“C’mon, tell me why the great Sasuke Uchiha had to stoop to lying,” Naruto teased, his voice lilting with amusement.
“No,” Sasuke replied, his tone clipped. He was in no mood for Naruto’s antics, not after everything that had transpired.
Naruto’s smile widened, his eyes gleaming with mischief. “If it makes you feel any better, I’m a virgin too.”
Sasuke scoffed, rolling his eyes at the admission. “That much is obvious.”
“Hey!” Naruto protested, his voice rising in mock indignation.
“Why does it matter?” Sasuke shot back, already turning towards the door. “Let’s get back to class.”
Naruto followed, his usual sunny disposition restored. “Okay, Mr. Liar Liar Pants on Fire,” he said, smirking as he placed a hand on Sasuke’s shoulder.
Sasuke couldn’t help but feel a mix of relief and exasperation. Naruto was back to his annoying, cheerful self, and while the tension between them had eased, Sasuke knew this wasn’t the end. But for now, it was enough.
As Sasuke and Naruto pushed open the heavy classroom door, it was as if the atmosphere itself sighed in relief. The tension that had been choking the room only moments ago seemed to dissipate, melting away like mist under the warmth of the sun. The oppressive stench of Naruto’s agitated pheromones was gone, replaced by the familiar, sweet scent of oranges that flowed through the air like a soothing balm. The shift was almost tangible, a ripple of calm that spread through the room, easing the taut nerves of their classmates.
The change in the room was immediate. Students who had been hunched over their desks, tense and on edge, now visibly relaxed, their shoulders loosening and their breaths coming easier. A few of them even cast glances of admiration towards Naruto, their expressions softened by the allure of his scent. It was as if the room itself had been cleansed, the heavy, metallic tang of anger and frustration replaced by a fragrant breeze that carried with it a sense of peace.
Sasuke let his gaze linger on Naruto for a moment longer, taking in the sight of him standing there, as if nothing had ever been wrong. The scowl that had twisted Naruto’s features all week was gone, replaced by a lightness in his eyes and a small, almost mischievous smile that tugged at the corners of his lips. It was as if the storm that had raged within him had finally passed, leaving behind only the calm.
Without another word, Sasuke made his way back to his seat beside Neji, the faint scent of oranges still lingering in the air. As he sat down, he felt the weight of Neji’s gaze on him, those pale, discerning eyes that seemed to miss nothing.
“It seems you have contradicted yourself,” Neji remarked, his tone as smooth and composed as ever, yet carrying a hint of amusement.
“Hmph,” was all Sasuke could muster in response, his eyes narrowing slightly as he refused to engage further. He knew what Neji was implying, but he wasn’t in the mood for a lecture, no matter how elegantly worded it might be.
Neji’s lips curved into a barely perceptible smile, the kind that held more understanding than judgment. He returned his attention to the book in front of him, but not before giving Sasuke a proud look.
Sasuke crossed his arms over his chest, leaning back in his chair with a sigh. The room had returned to its usual rhythm, the low hum of voices and the scratch of pens on paper filling the air once more. Yet, there was a part of him that still felt unsettled, as if the events of the past week had left a mark that wouldn’t easily fade.
He glanced at Naruto out of the corner of his eye, watching as he settled into his own seat, surrounded by classmates who seemed drawn to him now, captivated by the restored warmth of his presence. The idiot had caused so much chaos, and yet, here he was, effortlessly charming everyone back into his orbit.
Sasuke shook his head slightly, a small, almost imperceptible smile playing on his lips. For better or worse, things were back to normal—or at least, as normal as they ever got between them. And for now, that was enough.
As the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, Sasuke gathered his belongings with his usual efficiency, intending to walk home alone as he always did. The familiar solitude of his walk was something he looked forward to—an opportunity to unwind, think, and avoid unnecessary interactions. However, today, his plans were abruptly disrupted.
"Why are you following me, idiot?" Sasuke demanded, not bothering to hide his irritation as he noticed Naruto trailing behind him, that ever-present grin plastered on his face.
"I'm following you to make sure you don't lie to me about other things," Naruto replied, his voice light and teasing, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief.
Sasuke grumbled under his breath, "I fucking hate you," but continued walking, now with Naruto in tow. They found themselves weaving through the bustling streets of downtown, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows on the pavement, the air buzzing with the energy of people heading home or out for the evening.
"Yeah, right," Naruto shot back, unbothered by Sasuke's scowl. "By the way, now that we're here, do you want to get ramen?" he asked, his voice bright with excitement, his eyes lighting up at the mere mention of his favorite food.
Sasuke rolled his eyes, attempting to put some distance between them. "No, I don't like ramen, and why would I want to eat with you?" He quickened his pace slightly, hoping Naruto would get the hint and leave him alone.
But Naruto was relentless, his enthusiasm undimmed. "I know that already, but I haven't had Ichiraku's since I came back. C'mon! My mom banned me from eating ramen every day, but if I say I went with you, she won't get mad."
Sasuke shot him a sideways glance, his expression unimpressed. "And exactly how is that my problem?" he retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he paused at the curb, looking both ways before crossing the street.
Naruto didn’t miss a beat, his grin widening as he played his next card. "Mmm, I don't know, but what if I don't tell everyone about how you lied about your virginity?"
Sasuke stopped dead in his tracks, spinning around to face Naruto, his dark eyes narrowing in anger. "Are you going to hold that over my head forever?!" he hissed, his voice low and dangerous.
"Maybeee," Naruto drawled, stretching the word out with a playful tone, "or I might just forget if someone gets Ichiraku's with me. Oh, and pays for me," he added, his smirk widening as he dangled the bait.
Sasuke's fists clenched at his sides, his frustration mounting. Just as he was about to lash out, a loud honk snapped him back to reality. The two of them had unwittingly wandered into the middle of the street during their argument, oblivious to the traffic around them.
Acting on instinct, Sasuke grabbed Naruto’s arm with more force than necessary and yanked him to the safety of the sidewalk, his heart pounding with adrenaline and anger.
"Fine," Sasuke spat out, his voice tight with barely restrained fury. "I'll get stupid Ichiraku’s with you, but you will never mention my little incident again. Promise?"
Naruto’s grin softened into a more genuine smile as he held up his hand in mock solemnity. "Promise," he said, the word carrying an air of finality.
Sasuke exhaled sharply, his tension slowly easing as they walked side by side toward Ichiraku’s. The fading sunlight bathed the street in a warm, golden glow, and for a brief moment, the world seemed almost peaceful. But Sasuke knew better—Naruto’s presence was a constant, chaotic force in his life, one that he could never fully escape. Yet, despite the annoyance, there was a part of him that didn’t entirely mind.

Chapter 2
---
Sasuke lay on his bed, the dim light of his lamp casting a warm glow on the pages of the book in his hands, “Alpha Ruts.” He had spent the last hour trying to learn any useful information from it, but to no avail. He knew there was a high chance that Naruto would want to continue their earlier conversation, and Sasuke hated the idea of looking uninformed. “A periodic and often annually recurring state for Alphas, during which their behavior associated with the urge to breed is displayed. Usually, an Alpha goes into rut every month or can be triggered by an Omega’s heat.” Everyone knew that. This book was useless; all it had were biological details. What he needed to know was what it felt like. But he had nobody to ask—after all, it would be weird for a supposed “Alpha” to go around asking what a rut is like when he should be experiencing it every month.
“Urghhh,” growled Sasuke in frustration, slamming the book shut. Why did everyone and everything have to be so useless? He grabbed his phone from his nightstand and opened Google. “What do Alpha Ruts feel like?” he typed.
The first result was a Reddit post. “I feel like I want to fuck anyone and everything. I’m always horny, it becomes really hot, I get super territorial, and just very animalistic. I jerk off at least 15 times a day when I’m going through a rut. If not, I hire one of those prostitute omegas and then—” Okay, that’s enough, Sasuke thought to himself, feeling a wave of disgust. Sure, he wanted to know what it felt like, but he didn’t need every explicit detail.
He kept scrolling through the search results, skimming through various forums and articles that all seemed to repeat the same crude descriptions. Suddenly, his phone buzzed with a message notification.
Naruto: Do you want to come over? My mom made cookies and she said I should invite you over because she hasn’t seen you in a while.
Sasuke sighed. He didn't feel like going. The thought of potentially awkward conversations with Naruto made his stomach churn, and he was still a bit butt-hurt about Naruto being a Dominant Alpha. However, he couldn’t ignore an invitation from Mrs. Uzumaki. She had always been kind to him. When his own parents had often neglected him, Mrs. Uzumaki had been there, treating him like her own son. She sent him lunch every day, took care of his injuries, took him to the park or other places when she took Naruto, and even signed his field trip forms as a “Close Family Friend,” which might have gotten her into trouble at some point. Sasuke was nothing but grateful to her, so he had to go if she wanted to see him.
Sasuke: I’ll be there in a bit, but only because your mother wants to see me. Preferably, I wouldn’t want to see your ugly face when it’s not necessary.
Naruto responded with an emoji sticking out its tongue and another flipping him off.
Sasuke got up from his bed, closed the book, and put on a black jacket. He descended the stairs, the quiet house echoing his movements. At the door, he slipped on a black pair of Converse and stepped out into the cool evening air.
It had been a while since he had walked to Naruto’s house; he had started avoiding it around the time he got to middle school. He felt bad for always making Naruto’s parents take care of him, so he started acting more independent. Naruto’s house was only a fifteen-minute walk away from his, which was very convenient. As he walked, memories of simpler times flooded back—times when he didn’t have to worry about suppressants, his family’s expectations, or the secret he carried. The neighborhood was quiet, the only sounds being the distant hum of traffic and the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze.
—----
Sasuke arrived at Naruto’s house, pausing to take in the sight. It was a large but cozy home, a stark contrast to his own family’s cold, opulent mansion. Naruto’s parents were well-off but chose to live simply, without the luxury items that adorned the Uchiha household. He believed that’s one of the reasons his parents tolerated his closeness with Naruto’s family; they probably saw them as people that would be useful to them later on.
He walked up the porch and rang the doorbell, hearing a cheerful "Coming!" from inside. A moment later, the door swung open to reveal Mrs. Uzumaki.
“Sasuke, sweetheart, it’s been a while! We’ve missed you so much! You should come by more often!” she exclaimed, pulling him into a warm embrace. Her long red hair enveloped him, and he was surrounded by her comforting pheromones, which smelled like warm cinnamon. She was a beautiful omega, and Sasuke always found solace in her motherly scent. It was sweet and relaxing, making him feel as if he could take a nap right there on her porch.
Their moment was interrupted by a noise from the stairs. Naruto came bounding down, his usual boisterous self. “No, we haven’t, and I don’t want him coming over more often. It would ruin my calm atmosphere,” he teased, sticking his tongue out at Sasuke.
Mrs. Uzumaki’s eyes narrowed as she turned to Naruto, stomping over to him and delivering a swat to the back of his head. “Idiot, the only one ruining the calm atmosphere around here is you.”
Naruto rubbed the back of his head, pouting. “Ow, Mom! Why do you always take his side?”
“Because he doesn’t always cause trouble,” she snapped back, then turned to Sasuke with a warm smile. “Sasuke, sweetheart, come in. I already have a plate of cookies and milk ready for you at the table.”
Sasuke stepped inside, following her to the dining room. He sat in his usual spot, where he always sat when he came over. Mrs. Uzumaki placed a plate of cookies in front of him, and her smile urged him to take a bite. He did, and they were delicious. Mrs. Uzumaki knew he didn’t like sweet things, so she always made a special batch just for him, perfectly balanced to his taste. He washed down the cookie with a sip of almond milk, his preferred choice. He doubted his own parents even knew that.
“Thank you, Mrs. Uzumaki. Your baking is as delicious as always,” Sasuke said, offering one of the warmest, most genuine smiles he had in him.
“You don’t have to thank me, sweetheart. We’re family, and you know we’ll always be here for you.”
Hearing those words, Sasuke felt a lump in his throat. He hadn’t heard anything like that in years, since he had distanced himself from Naruto’s house. A tear rolled down his cheek, surprising him. He rarely cried, but Mrs. Uzumaki’s words made him feel loved, easing the burdens he always carried. Without a word, she pulled him into another hug, letting him feel the comfort of her embrace.
After a few moments, she gently released him. “You can go upstairs and play with Naruto for a while,” she said. Sasuke nodded, glancing down at his plate. He hadn’t even noticed he had finished all the cookies and milk.
“I’ll pack you some more cookies to go,” Mrs. Uzumaki added, pointing him towards the stairs.
Sasuke made his way to the stairs, and to his surprise, Naruto was sitting in the middle of them, looking a bit sad. Had he seen Sasuke cry? Sasuke hoped not.
“What are you doing, idiot? Let’s go upstairs,” Sasuke said in the most serious tone he could muster, hoping his eyes weren’t red.
“I’m going, asshole,” Naruto replied, his demeanor shifting to a more lively and playful one. He climbed the rest of the stairs and led Sasuke to his bedroom, not that Sasuke needed guidance—he had been there countless times.
The moment Sasuke stepped into the room, he was hit by the heavy pheromones. They were strong, but luckily Sasuke had drowned himself in suppressants that morning, or else he might have had a strange reaction, or worse, entered a heat. The pheromones smelled like oranges and grass—a weird but delicious combination. He liked the smell, even though it was overwhelming. That was strange.
“Open a window, dumbass. Your pheromones are everywhere.”
“Oh right, I guess Alphas don’t really like smelling other Alphas,” Naruto said as he opened the windows in his room. Sasuke was caught off guard by the statement but didn’t respond.
Naruto’s room was nice but messy. Posters of his favorite manga characters and celebrities adorned the walls, and a board Sasuke had made for him for his birthday in middle school, filled with photographs of them when they were younger, hung above Naruto’s desk. The board was even themed in Naruto's favorite color—an ugly orange. Sasuke smiled at the sight, but his smile quickly turned into a scowl as he took in the mess: piles of random clothes and stuff scattered around, unorganized and chaotic.
“You’re such a pig. How do you live with this mess?” Sasuke asked, looking for a clean spot to sit, which ended up being the edge of Naruto’s bed, where his pheromones were even stronger.
“I cleaned it last week because my mom said the same thing, but I guess I’ll have to clean again soon, your highness,” Naruto said with a playful bow and an eye roll. Then, he jumped on his bed, startling Sasuke for a second, but Sasuke didn’t move. Naruto adjusted himself and lay down in a way that wouldn’t disturb Sasuke.
“So, what are we going to do?” Sasuke asked. He hadn’t hung out with Naruto like this since middle school, so he didn’t know what to expect.
“Well, I thought we could just talk for a bit, you know, about life,” Naruto said, staring at the ceiling.
“Okay,” Sasuke replied, though it was far from okay. “Talk” was the last thing he wanted to do. He didn’t want Naruto to catch on to anything that might out him as an omega.
Naruto suddenly spoke. “Any cute omegas you’ve been interested in lately?”
“Nothing like that. What about you?” Sasuke responded.
“Not anyone in particular, but a lot of people outside my friends have been talking to me now that they know I’m an Alpha. It’s weird considering that when I was a ‘Beta,’ everyone ignored or called me annoying. Now, when I do something stupid, they all think it’s funny.” Naruto’s eyes widened. “Sorry, did I just dump all that on you? I didn’t mean to do that.” He gave an awkward smile.
“It’s fine. I understand what you mean.”
“Soooo, want to tell me how the whole Alpha thing works now that we have time?” Naruto asked, sitting up with an expression of anticipation.
Shit. Sasuke knew this was coming. He didn’t want to reach this point, but here they were. Luckily, he had studied a bit about Alpha ruts before coming over.
“Well, what do you want to know?” Sasuke asked, hoping to give minimal information.
“Well, let’s see. I want to know how it feels, what kind of urges you get, how you act. I did get a lesson on what ruts are supposed to be like, but I want to know from someone who has actually experienced them, not some stupid textbook or video.”
Sasuke felt a pang of guilt. He was about to lie to his best friend and tell him things he’d never experienced. “Well, you get really hot and territorial. You also get very horny and just want to fuck everyone and everything. If you don’t have anyone to fuck, you can just jerk off your rut away.” He hoped that sounded truthful, recalling everything from that one Reddit post and explaining it as simply as possible.
He turned to look at Naruto, who was now sitting with his knees close to his face, burying half of his face in them. Naruto’s face was super red. Was he embarrassed? How funny. This made Sasuke want to tease him more. What a baby.
“What’s wrong, Naruto? You’ve never thought about fucking an omega?” Sasuke asked with a smirk. Naruto’s face turned even redder, matching his mother’s hair. Sasuke continued, “Let me guess, you don’t even know how to work your dick?”
Naruto suddenly looked up. “Yes, I do. I can show you right now,” he said in an annoyed tone, then realized what he had just said and buried his head into his knees again, not noticing that Sasuke was now red too.
After a few moments, when the embarrassment had subsided, Naruto asked another question. “How do you usually take care of your ruts?”
Shit. Sasuke didn’t know how to respond. “Um, I jerk off and have sex when I need to,” he said in the most nonchalant tone he could muster.
Naruto’s eyes widened. “So, you’re not a virgin? Who do you usually have sex with? How many times have you done it? How come you’ve never told me you already had your first? Don’t best friends usually tell each other that stuff?” Naruto bombarded him with questions, looking a bit pissed and maybe even a little sad.
Sasuke sighed. He had never even properly jerked off, let alone had sex. The lies were getting deeper. “First of all, my sex life is none of your business, and I shouldn’t have to report to you about what I do with my life,” Sasuke snapped.
Naruto got up from the bed. “Fine, have it your way. You don’t ever have to tell me anything. I’m sorry for being worried and curious about my best friend!” Naruto snapped back.
“You know what? I'm just going to leave,” Sasuke said.
“Do what you want. I don’t care, since it’s ‘none of my business,’” Naruto mocked.
Sasuke got up and left the room without bothering to respond. Naruto was just being stupid and annoying. He made his way downstairs, said goodbye to Mrs. Uzumaki, grabbed the bag of pastries she gave him, and left. He was mad—mad at Naruto, mad at his parents, mad at the world, and mad at himself.
The fresh afternoon summer air seemed to calm him a bit as he walked home, overwhelmed with emotions.

Chapter 1
---
Junior year of high school had just started at Ninshu High for Sasuke. The streets were a cacophony of excited voices, with students eagerly exchanging stories of their summer adventures and speculating about the latest drama. The air was charged with energy and anticipation. However, Sasuke remained detached, his mind already miles ahead, focused on his future. He had little interest in the trivial chatter around him. To him, school was merely an obstacle to overcome before stepping into his preordained path.
Sasuke was the youngest son of the illustrious Uchiha family, a name synonymous with excellence and power. His older brother, Itachi, had set a daunting standard—graduating at the top of his class, excelling in athletics, and now he was in his last year of college at a prestigious university, soon to be probably one of the best prosecutors. The expectations placed on Sasuke were immense, yet his accomplishments felt hollow, overshadowed by a truth that gnawed at his self-worth. Unlike his dominant Alpha brother, Sasuke had manifested as an Omega, which was already considered a big enough disappointment to his All-Alpha prestigious family. To save face his family decided to hide the fact that their youngest son had manifested as an Omega and instead lied to the world and announced that Sasuke too was an Alpha.
Sasuke had also grown to despise himself for being an Omega, a status that fueled his anxieties. He never let his pheromones out and had never experienced a proper heat. Determined to avoid his nature, he relied heavily on suppressants, forcing himself to live in denial. He didn't care about the detrimental effects on his body or the potential consequences. All that mattered to him was not being perceived as weak or different.
The morning walk to school was a rare moment of peace for Sasuke. He savored the quiet, the rhythmic crunch of gravel underfoot, and the crisp morning air that filled his lungs. It was a fifteen-minute escape from the suffocating expectations that awaited him. Before stepping into the bustling main hall, he mentally checked his preparations: Pheromone blockers, check. Neat uniform, check. Suppressants, check. Steeling himself, he entered the school, only to be halted by a familiar, husky voice.
“Heyyy, Sasukeee!”
Naruto’s voice was unmistakable, a blend of exuberance and mischief that Sasuke knew all too well.
Sasuke turned, expecting to see the same short, scrappy Naruto he had always known. Instead, he was met with a surprise that stopped him in his tracks. Over the summer, Naruto had undergone a dramatic transformation. His messy blond hair still shone brightly under the morning sun, maintaining its wild, untamed look, but somehow it suited him even more now. His blue eyes, always full of mischief and energy, now sparkled with a newfound intensity and confidence that caught Sasuke off guard.
Naruto stood an inch taller than Sasuke now, his growth spurt making him appear more imposing. It was surprising to see Naruto be taller than him now, especially considering that even though he was an Omega, Sasuke was relatively tall for one standing at 5 '6", while usually omegas tended to be short and delicate. His tanned skin, a shade deeper from his summer adventures, highlighted the definition in his newly toned muscles. It was clear he had spent the summer working-out, his body now lean and athletic. The broadening of his shoulders and the added muscle mass gave him a more mature, almost intimidating presence.
Sasuke couldn't help but notice how well the changes suited Naruto, adding an unexpected edge to his appearance. The change in Naruto was not just physical. There was an air of confidence about him, a subtle shift in how he carried himself. He seemed more sure of his place in the world, more comfortable in his own skin. This newfound maturity made Sasuke feel a pang of jealousy.
“What the hell happened to you during the summer?” Sasuke scoffed, barely masking his shock.
“Well… I manifested late and it turns out I’m an Alpha. After that, I just went through Alpha puberty, I guess. Also, I ate a lot of vegetables, not just ramen. Maybe that’s why,” Naruto replied with a triumphant smirk.
“Oh coo—wait, YOU’RE AN ALPHA?!” Sasuke’s exclamation drew the attention of everyone nearby. The hallway buzzed with whispers and curious glances.
Clearing his throat, Sasuke quickly regained his composure. His mind, however, was reeling. Naruto, an Alpha? It felt like the universe was playing a cruel joke on him. While Sasuke struggled with his hidden Omega status, Naruto had effortlessly transitioned into the coveted role of an Alpha.
Naruto interrupted his thoughts. “I guess we’re both Alphas now. All the pretty Omega girls are going to want us—the handsome duo.”
Of course, that’s where Naruto’s mind would go first. “Let’s just go inside, idiot,” Sasuke sighed, leading the way.
As they entered the building, Sasuke felt the familiar pressure of pheromones filling the air. Thanks to his suppressants, he wasn’t affected, but the constant reminder of his secret gnawed at him. He was an Omega pretending to be an Alpha, a fact known only to his immediate family. Every step in this charade was a reminder of his perceived inadequacy.
Naruto tried to sling an arm around Sasuke’s shoulder, but Sasuke quickly shrugged it off. He despised physical touch, a habit formed from years of guarding his secret.
“Urgh, you’re such an asshole,” Naruto grumbled, though there was no real malice in his voice.
“Anyway, what class do you have right now?”
“English. You?” Sasuke asked, already knowing his own schedule by heart, a testament to his diligence.
Naruto fished out a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket. “Bummer, I have stupid math.”
“How sad. I dread for whoever has to try to get knowledge through that thick skull of yours.”
“Hey! You think you’re so smart, but you’re just an asshole who thinks he knows everything!” Naruto shot back, sticking his tongue out in the process.
They both paused for a second and then they broke into laughter. Naruto had been Sasuke’s best friend since childhood. He was the only one who could insult Sasuke and then make him laugh. Naruto’s presence was a constant, a rare source of comfort in Sasuke’s otherwise complicated life.
“Alright then, Sas. I’m heading to class. If I'm late on my first day, that demoness I call mom will kill me,” Naruto said, pulling a mock-frightened face.
Sasuke nodded, understanding. Mrs. Uzumaki’s temper was legendary, even he was scared of her at times.
“Alright, see you later.”
As Naruto disappeared down another hallway, Sasuke turned to his classroom. He stepped inside, immediately drawing the attention of his classmates. His striking looks and composed demeanor always made an impression. The classroom was already buzzing with students who had arrived early to catch up with friends.
“Sasuke!” A chorus of voices greeted him as he walked to a seat in the middle row. A gaggle of admirers quickly surrounded him, firing off questions and compliments.
“How was your summer, Sasuke?”
“You look even handsomer.”
“Did you get a haircut?”
Sasuke ignored them, his mind drifting. Their blatant displays of pheromones, a desperate attempt to catch his attention, were futile. As an Omega, he was immune to their allure, but if he were truly an Alpha, the overwhelming scent might have provoked a violent reaction, which is why he found all those Omega disgusting, they knew what could happen, but for their own gain they still did it anyways.
The bell finally rang, dispersing his admirers. Sasuke sighed in relief, only to be greeted by the one he found the most annoying.
“Hey, Sasuke…” It was Sakura. She had been infatuated with him since primary school, ignoring countless rejections. She had manifested as an Alpha a while back, and in the eyes of the world, so was he, and still didn’t make her give up on him. She had this delusional idea that together they could be a powerful Alpha couple, but Sasuke just found her annoying and repulsive.
He chose to ignore her greeting, focusing instead on the lesson ahead.
Throughout the whole class she made stupid attempts to get closer to him like “accidently” dropping her pencil right next to his foot, or asking him to explain things to her, which Sasuke thought made her look even more stupid since it was the first day of school and all they were doing was going over the syllabus.

During lunch, Sasuke sought refuge in the library, a sanctuary of silence amid the chaos of school. He unpacked his lunch—onigiri with sliced tomatoes, his favorite—and settled in with a book on federal laws. The quiet allowed him to relax, the world outside fading as he delved into the complexities of legal statutes.
His solitude was short-lived. Naruto plopped down across from him, balancing a lunchbox and a cup of instant ramen. “I knew you would be here. May I join you, kind sir?” he asked with a smirk.
“You’re already sitting down. Why are you asking?” Sasuke rolled his eyes, turning a page.
Naruto ignored the remark, diving into his ramen with gusto. “Can you believe I haven't had ramen ALL SUMMER?!”
“Ugh, it’s so good,” he exclaimed, slurping the broth noisily.
“You’re such a pig,” Sasuke said, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Stop being a hater,” Naruto retorted, grinning.
Sasuke returned to his book, only to be interrupted again seconds later by Naruto’s sudden question. “Hey, so um—what are ruts like?” the boy asked while trying to nonchalantly finish what was left of the broth in his cup.
Sasuke froze. He had no personal experience with Alpha ruts. As an Omega, he went through heats, but the two were not the same and he had technically never experienced a proper Omega heat either. His brother, Itachi, kept his ruts private, he took care of everything by himself, disappearing for days without a word.
“You’ve already been manifested as an Alpha for a while now. You should have had at least one rut or two by now,” Sasuke replied cautiously.
“Well, the clinic said that because I presented late, there might be some issues with my ruts and pheromones. Since I’m also a Dominant Alpha, it’s been...complicated. I haven’t had any ruts yet, but my doctor thinks it will happen soon.”
“Oh, that sounds...difficult. You didn’t mention you were a Dominant Alpha.”
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s all the same thing,” Naruto said, scratching his head with an awkward smile.
Probably not to you, but for me it’s a different story, Sasuke thought to himself.
“Anyway, about my question…”
The bell rang, saving Sasuke from further discussion. “Oh man, I gotta go to my next class. See you later, Sasuke!” Naruto called, dashing off.
Sasuke packed up his things and headed to his next class, grateful for the interruption. He had no desire to delve deeper into a conversation about ruts and heats, especially not with Naruto. His secret was a burden he bore alone, a constant reminder of the gap between who he was and who he pretended to be.
