I've been struggling with my wip for some time now - because, moving countries and dealing with personal life issues have been major distractions, because sometimes life just gets in the way and you lose motivation to write.

But recently, I received the most heartwarming short comment on my stagnant WIP. It made me realize that someone out there is still reading it.

Comment. Always. Even a few words can make a world of difference.

I think I am at an inspirational standstill and I just have to accept it. I've already written and published a bunch of chapters, I've already written other following chapters, I'm stuck in a review of a chapter I'm rewriting because I wasn't happy with it. I know exactly how it should go and what I should write, but every time I try it all seems so lame and I don't have the energy to write more than a few sentences, which I don't like, by the way.

What do you do to overcome an inspiration crisis?

Kiruna’s eyes widened, equal parts horror and clarity washing over her. “Oh fucking hell. She’s like me.” Her voice cracked, the disbelief evident. “She’s exactly like I used to be.” A beat passed as she stared at Kakashi, the truth settling in deeper. “I was so obnoxious.”

Kakashi relaxed slightly. He wished he could understand the kids as clearly as he’d just managed with Kiruna. Still, there was a tiny, inexplicable satisfaction in this moment - something he didn’t fully understand but chose to accept.

They stood in silence for a while, both facing the Memorial Stone, letting the weight of their realizations settle between them.

“Aren’t you extremely late?” Kiruna finally broke the silence.

“I am.” “You better go.” “I’m going.” “Like now, Kakashi. Fucking now.”

They assigned watch shifts and picked the most comfortable spots on the bare ground. They had nothing to sleep on, but that was nothing new. Above them, the sky stretched vast and clear, the moon looming over their heads.

“Kakashi?” “Yeah?” “You know, I do miss the girls. Back when they were Genins, doing dumb stuff. They’re doing great now, especially Reika - I’m really proud of her. And of course, I’m glad they made Chūnin…” Kiruna exhaled slowly, a wistful sigh carried into the quiet night. “But I miss those days. Back then, I felt like I could protect them from everything.”

Her hands rested behind her head, her gaze lost in the vastness of the stars, her voice tinged with a bittersweet sense of longing. Kakashi lay beside her, head aligned but turned the other way. Close enough to hear every word, not quite close enough to touch. He dared not look at her, instead absorbing the moment and all she was sharing with him in silence.

“Kiruna?” “Yeah?” “Goodnight.” “Goodnight, Kakashi.”
