little mermaid x meanie
The prince wandered the shores of the lonely beach. He always found it odd that no one ever came out here to admire the beauty of the blue waters or the gentle sounds of the crashing waves.
Maybe it was something that scared them off.
Prince Wonwoo slipped off his shoes, placing them in a spot in the sand. Gradually, he approached the waters. The waves were gentle as they tried their best to rush toward Wonwoo’s feet. He shivered, feeling the cold saltwater kiss his feet.
Wonwoo looked up, admiring the vast sight of the ocean. It seemed like it was never ending. It seemed like the ocean just kept going on and on. Forever. Suddenly, Wonwoo was startled by a figure hiding behind a rock.
They made eye contact for a brief second before the creature jumped back into the waters. It wasn’t a creature, it seemed like a person. A human. Out of curiosity, Wonwoo took steps forward.
He was mindlessly going deeper into the ocean. He didn’t know how to swim, there was no one around. The worst could happen out here. He could get swallowed by the ocean due to his curiosity.
The water eventually became ankle deep.
Then, knee deep. Waist deep.
Wonwoo shuddered. His clothing was thin and the water was cold. The prince swayed, feeling a wave coming in. A wave that was stronger than the ones he just dipped his feet in. He’s gone out too far, he has to go back.
Another wave came in, one that was stronger enough to knock Wonwoo off his feet. He slipped, feeling himself become submerged for a mere second. Once he pulled himself to the surface again, he gasped loudly. He began to panic, noticing how bare his face felt.
His specs. They’re missing. Wonwoo began to palm around frantically. He does have spare ones at home, back at the palace, but he can barely see out of those. He needs these specs.
By now, he had forgotten all about that creature he had seen previously. Now, he just wants to find those specs, get out of the ocean, dry off, and head home. He was scared.
Wonwoo eyes flickered to a blurry mix of colors, it just seemed to have the shape of his specs. Wonwoo took steps forward, trying to snatch at it but the waves kept sweeping it further and further away from him.
So, he chased after it. Soon, the water rose to his chest. His feet could no longer touch the ocean floor. The water began to reach his neck, making him accidentally swallow some bits of saltwater. Now, his arms began to flail as he attempted to keep himself afloat.
Panic rose as he began to flail more violently. He felt no air in his lungs, his feet at no surface to stand on, and water was starting to get into his ears and nose.
Eventually, the ocean swallowed him.
This creature Wonwoo has seen earlier was human. Half human anyway. The rest was fish. Wonwoo had seen a merman. Mingyu was the merman that had always came to spectate Wonwoo’s little innocent and curious antics whenever he came to visit the ocean.
He always hid behind that rock, not wanting to be caught. His father had taught him that merpeople were a species that were frowned upon. They were unusual and only meant to be kept a myth, a fantasy. Nothing more than that.
But, today, it seemed like he was caught. Now, he was risking that chance even more by saving this drowning prince. Mingyu shyly swam closer to the surface. He silently admired the prince’s handsome features and how stunning they even looked underwater.
Not wasting anymore time, he wrapped his arm around the prince’s waist and pulled him up to the surface. Along the way, he found those pair of specs that the prince always wore. With ease, he brought Wonwoo back to the surface.
Mingyu was nervous, he had no idea how to wake up a human being that was in the water for too long. Gently, Mingyu shook the prince by the shoulders. He tried adding pressure against Wonwoo’s chest. Nothing seemed to work.
He began to admire Wonwoo’s face all over again. He hopes the prince hasn’t gone to the afterlife, then Mingyu could’ve saved him earlier. He didn’t want to live with that guilt for the rest of his life.
Mingyu jumped hearing Wonwoo cough and wheeze. He wanted to stay a little longer with the prince, perhaps, even speak with him once. But, once those eyes fluttered open, Mingyu grabbed onto Wonwoo’s specs, placed them on the prince’s face incorrectly, and jumped back into the water.
He swam as fast as his heart was beating.
