I am currently reading a book called "Learning to Die in the Anthropocene" by Roy Scranton. In this book, Scranton calmly lists in detail all the problems we have and also lists in detail all of our so-called solutions (renewable energy, solar, geothermal etc) and then he outlines why none of the solutions will work (spoiler: our society needs to completely change (by dying he means to tackle the problem philosophically because Montaigne wrote "To philosophize is to learn how to die")

It is really good but it was written ten years ago and already the beginning of the book made me so tired. You see, he outlines what could happen with a five to nine degree Fahrenheit (three to five degrees Celsius for the rest of us) and guess what...we are ahead of schedule because everything he describes is already happening

Yep...we are so fucked. Currently, the rains in Germany have led to massive flooding (which is coming our way because the Danube is so full...but I will be fine because Vienna has heavy flood protection), the US is having a Tonardo season from Hell, and many other parts of the world like Vietnam are having droughts, India, Pakistan etc are baking at 55°C...etc etc etc.

Why are we having wars and spending money on utterly useless bullshit that makes the lives of everyone miserable? We have other problems. They are massive and need intervention. Now.

Currently, as a non binary person, I'm not able to get married or a civil partnership as myself and my gender. I'd have to be deliberately misgendered in all the paperwork and in the ceremony - in front of everyone. I'm also unable to get my passport, driving licence, and other official documents to reflect my correct identity. I can't even be officially recognised as trans, even with a gender recognition certificate, because the UK doesn't recognise non binary as a valid identity!

If a worker who isn't the owner says ANYTHING similar to "I'm not really supposed to do this but-" and then does something that helps you, under no circumstances inform the business, including through reviews. You tell them that the worker was polite, professional, the very model of customer service and why you like to go there. You do not breathe a word of the rulebreaking.

I had a scar below my right eye just kinda at the top of my cheekbone (that has faded in the decade since), that I got when I tripped over my dog and smashed my face into the coffee table at like 3am while studying at college. There was a lot of blood but it was so late and I didn't want to wake anyone too deal with it, so I just kind of shrugged it if and we've to bed. The next day in college, I had classmates asking what fight I got into and who they should beat up. I thought it was hilarious that they had this cool backstory in their heads for me when I'm reality it's like "nah, I'm just an idiot and didn't look where I was going". Gave everyone a good laugh though!

It looked really bad for a while, but it's not really noticeable now.

i think its funny how facial scars are seen as like a major character plot point where they reveal that someone tried to kill their dad or something when i know a ton of ppl (including myself) who have facial scars bc they rlly arent uncommon and all of them are like. from tripping and falling as a toddler
